There's a kid icarus fangame doing the rounds, and now with the switch, using the motion controls to aim, and two full joysticks to move and control the camera, Kid Icarus Uprising style could get into the Switch pretty easily, and play better than the original.
The Nintendo Thread
-
-
Kid Icarus Uprising remake has been my low-key dream for some time now. Which means I don't expect it at all, it's be too great a thing to happen.
-
I too want to play it again, in a way that doesn't make me feel like I'm getting my wrist destroyed.
-
Why does everyone freak out about rumors of a Direct anyway? Just wait for one to be announced, and then once it is wait for it to happen. How many times do we have to go through the same cycle of fake leaks, unrealistic wish lists, and disappointment?
-
Beats me.
-
People like getting scoops I guess.
I understand 2018 for Nintendo is very nebulous right now and people are getting antsy. But yeah. I could do without the crazy.
-
I guess it doesn't help that Nintendo decided the only way we can get new information is in random Short Official Approved Broadcasts from Big Brother.
-
I kind of like the Direct format, or at least how it was executed during the days of Iwata. Constant stream of news year-round done by Nintendo themselves was way more investing than having to do the rounds in gaming sites looking for press releases. Those were also the days where every Direct had the probability of carrying a smash trailer, so it was excitement year-round, at least for me.
Now they're a lot more scarce and I agree it's silly that everyone seems to leak Direct dates before Nintendo just announces them.
-
Recent Directs have been pretty boring. The most exciting conferences have been the Switch presentation last January(?) and then the E3 presentation.
I don't really understand why people hype these up so much. I guess this one is a January presentation which Nintendo might see fit to actually announce some exciting things, but then again, it could be like the last Direct which bored me to tears.
-
Iwata was the only famous death that had an emotional effect on me.
-
People just wanna know what the hell is FE Switch all about it.

I'm fine with buying Dark Souls (1) at least as many times as I've bought Resident Evil 4, which is, I believe, three times.
I haven't paid any attention at all to multiplayer stuff on the Switch (besides hearing about the silly cell phone app for headset use), but can we assume that all the invasion/summoning/soapstone messages stuff will work as it should and always has, effectively forestalling the death of DS1 online play? Or will Nintendo censor "try tongue but hole"!?
EDIT: Solaire for Smash 5??
-
Hgggg a few of those are good, but all of them, except the Indies and the EA "Indi" are recycled. Well, the mario tennis might not be a repeat, but.. (I don't care).
At least one hard hitter should have been revealed.
-
-TWEWY: I tried to play this on the DS but could never get comfortable with the controls. Might give it another chance, but probably won't because there's so much more I want to get around to.
-Hyrule Warriors, Tropical Freeze, Dark Souls, Ys VIII: All games I missed out on and want to play. Great stuff for me, even if they're just ports.
-Mario + Rabbids DLC: The main game was one of my favorite games last year (even if I haven't finished it yet), so I'm getting this. -
This makes me believe even more that Twewy 2 is very early in the works
-

Mario Tennis looks super rad, though, since they're bringing back story mode.

People just wanna know what the hell is FE Switch all about it.
I'm starting to think they've secretly cancelled the damn thing.
-
More Wii U ports… shakes head I never played any of them, though. I heard Hyrule Warriors was pretty fun. My experience with One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is that these games are not worth full retail $60, though. I'd love to play Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors but not for $60. I think I got Pirate Warriors 3 for $20... Was a very fitting price for it.
Mario Tennis Aces was the closest to an exciting announcement here for me. It's nice to see that they're not just porting the Wii U version or making another rehash. But I'm not sure that I'm really into that series anymore, I think the last one I played was on the GBA.
Oh well, I really didn't expect much from this Direct. I knew people were overhyping it. Of course, I wanted to see some pretty exciting games coming out this year, but I knew it probably wasn't to be. Nintendo talked about the next big players (Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4) at last year's E3, and they're still a long ways out. Nothing here for me for a very long time, it appears. As I expected.
-
I knew people were literally salivating at this Nintendo Direct (I thankfully don't do hype) but it seems they are giving the Switch some extra ammo by porting excellent Wii U games that were just stuck on the Wii U.
I expect the big guns closer to E3 this year.

And for the people that skipped the Wii U, that's rad.
….not so rad for someone that had one, hehe. The only reason why I have MK8 deluxe is because my brother bought it, and unless there was a magical data transfer tool I have to skip HW.....even though I was hoping Toon Link and the like would come to the original.
-
I kind of like the EA ""indie"", and I'm willing to play a non-crosseyed version of TWEWY, especially if it has new stuff.
Didn't play tropical freeze, but I might just buy it in the WiiU once I recover it. Not feeling very platformey right now.
I got Dark Souls on steam, but every time that I've tried to play it, it has been a chore, as drivers, and control configurations, and hdmi wires and dumb stuff that me as a mostly indie PC gamer (and Blizzard), don't care about doing or fixing, so I might get it for the switch depending on my may.
-

Highly recommend this one, if you're on the fence.
There's a remarkable depth to it despite the ridiculous title, and the soundtrack alone is practically worth the price (especially the low low $20 price for the Wii U version). -
I expected nothing and got Tropical Freeze and Dark Souls.
With Bayonetta not too far away, i'll have enough material for the near future already. -
I'm at work so I haven't been wable to watch the direct myself, but there's a lot of neat stuff here I am interested in.
Going down the list:
(Stole Meta's list as a base, hidden for size)[hide]
-World Ends with You [Remix] to Switch: I've been wanting to try this game. Heard it's good-Aegislash and Mimikyu for Pokken DLC: …. I didn't want to bother re-buying this for the Switch since we have this on Wii U but... Mimikyu... Nintendo why you do this to me? don't know if I'll buy it but I'm tempted now.
-Kirby Star Allies (new abilities): Was looking forawrd to this since the E3 trailer. Still interested now. Fun Co-op games make me smile.
-Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition, EVERY map/character across both games) to the Switch: God damnit Nintendo. I'm a collector so I have to buy this… grrr..
-Mario Tennis Aces (story mode was confirmed to be returning): YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!! I love Mario Tennis but didn't buy Ultra Smash because of how bare bones I heard it was despite being full retail cost. Having a more robust full Mario Tennis game makes me happy.
-New Odyssey mode - Luigi's Balloon World. Basicially you either hide a balloon for someone to find, or try to find other players. Comes with new outfits and filters for Mario as well:
-Playable DK in Mario + Rabbids Both Cool-Switch port of Tropical Freeze with new mode (Funky playable) FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. Also want to Re-buy. grrr
-Dark Souls Remastered Never played a Dark Souls game but now I'm interested.[/hide]
-
Mimikyu is and assist tho.
-
-
My roommate is going to be quite happy about the Tropical Freeze port, though I'm already hearing his "wen Smash" in my head now. He's a big Dark Souls guy too, but I don't know if he'll double-dip on that one.
My jaw literally dropped at The World Ends With You. Has it really been ten years?! Makes me feel really old. Looks like an Atlus-style updated port, complete with Remake Girl. Retaining the iOS port's lack of dual screen gameplay or trying to finagle some facsimile makes me wary, but I can see Shiki's old button prompts in there, which I'm hearing were not in the original Final Mix…? Regardless, this is definitely going to be one of my first games when I finally pick up a Switch. I'm so glad this is finally happening and hopefully this does well and paves the road for a true sequel at some point.
-
Just as lame as I was expecting lol. "DLC, Port, Port, Port, DLC, oh hey entry #23 in a spinoff series, Port."
-
Spider Kirby. Spider Kirby. Can do whatever a spider can.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Just to clarify, people were still waiting for an announcement of the date of a real direct and not a 15 minutes mini direct they just put without warning anyone so don't complain about their expectations.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Hold on. Funky Kong is playable?!
-
I fucking loved TWEWY.
Sure it's the final remix version but I'll still take it.
AND TWO NEW POKKEN CHARAS?
This Direct was worth it.
-
As someone who skipped on the WiiU and loved DKCR, the port for Tropical Freeze is awesome news for me
-
Tropical Freeze is definitely an amazing title, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it. I might just get it again and complete it again.
Nothing else really seems that exciting. I have doubts about current Mario Tennis games, they haven't been good since Power Tennis on Gamecube/Wii, and this one seems to preserve the bland mechanic of going from circle to circle.
-
Final remix is different than IOS remix possibly, right? Hopefully the dual screen/gameplay comes back. The switch has possibilities for it to work.
-
Tropical Freeze is a quality platformer for those who haven't played it. I think it was dumped on a bit because it was from Retro and people were chomping at the bit for a new Metroid Prime. But yeah definitely feel free to pick that one up, I played it last year on Wii U and enjoyed it a lot.
I've never played TWEWY so I'll probably go in on that and that's it. Maaaaybe Mario Tennis Aces if it's a return to form but I'm not too hopeful.
-
Summary of this direct: and you get a port and you get a port and you get a port and everybody gets a port!!
That said I never did get Trop Freeze so I'll probably grab that (also totally down playing as Funky Kong)
Totally down for more Hyrule Warriors too.
-
If a port of Super Smash Bros. U with all the DLC is in the future, then I would be a very happy boy.
-
Mario Tennis Aces has me interested.
We haven't had a Tennis RPG from Camelot in 13 years. -
The World Ends With You for me for sure. I'd have happily rebought Hyrule Warriors if it had a bit of new content but it looks like its only two new costumes(?) which doesnt really interest me enough to buy it for a third time. Tropical Freeze I have on Wii U and personally I want to keep some things for that so probably won't rebuy. Ys I wanted to play for a while so definite for me. Don't really care much for Dark Souls.
Mario Tennis looks good tho. I guess this will give me plenty of time to finish up Xenoblade etc and save a bit of money XD
-
There is a sale on the 3ds shop. I might finally get fire emblem conquest. The Layton games and other stuff is on sale, american (Canadian?) Store only, nothing in europe
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Only the main games, the dlc are still at full price.
-
Let's see here:
TWEWY Final Mix: The first time I ever even heard of this game was through their cameos in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance and after I looked up what it was ever since then, it's forever been in my bucket list to get for my (3)DS. Added content? Improved sprites and art? Sign me up.
Pokken DLC: Nice to see that Bandai Namco is still supporting the game. I missed this game on the Wii U (due to me not having one), but I'm sure that won't be the case now. Blastoise, my one weakness… Must... get...
Kirby Star Allies: I FRICKING LOVE KIRBY! Definitely hype.
Hyrule Warriors - Definitive Edition: Another game that I unfortunately missed from the Wii U. As a Musou fan and a Zelda fan, I NEED this.
Mario Tennis Aces: Never played a Mario Tennis game and not really interested in doing so, but word through the gamer grapevine says that the one on Gamecube was the best and that the Wii U game was yucky. I'd like to think that this game is to make up for the Wii U one. Hoping it comes out stellar.
Luigi's Balloon World in Odyssey: I can already think of the crazy areas some people are gonna hide their balloons.
DK in Mario + Rabbids: It hurts that this game only just got my attention through an ape with a tie…
Payday 2: At least there's third-party support for the Switch. Other than that, meh.
Fe and Celeste: I'm not sure if these are indie games or not since they're both under EA, but they have the look and aesthetics down (unless they got an indie division that I never knew about). Either way, both look pretty interesting so I'll keep an eye out.
DKC Tropical Freeze on Switch: DONG EXPANDED. Just the other day, I was thinking about how much I wished that this would get a Switch port and now my wish comes true, now with added Funky Kong (as his first time being playable in a DK game, to add on that)!
Dark Souls Remastered: At least there's third-party support for the Switch. That, and I haven't even touched Dark Souls 2 for my 360 in a LONG time. Other than that, meh.

The Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance Mario Tennis games are full length RPGs.
You can grab the GBC one from the 3DS eshop for five bucks, it's a great deal. -

IIRC they were simple stories where you played an original character that rose up in the ranks through playing in tournaments and the like. I recall not really even getting to play against Mario characters until later on in the story. The off-court gameplay was very RPG like, with the graphics very similar to Golden Sun in the GBA games (for obvious reasons).
Although we do not know much, the story mode here looks to be very different. They seem to show Mario moving on a board, which would indicate that this story doesn't deal with original characters and also isn't RPG like. I don't know how to feel about that, personally.
-
This is gonna sound really random buuuut…..there's something so satisfying in the menu selection sfx in Mario sport titles. You guys know what I mean? The little ping when you scroll up and down in the menus, and the sound to confirm?
-
Kirby, Mario Tennis and DK Country are on my buy list, but I could probably get all the things they announced.
-
Not hugely interested in the batch announced this time. I missed WEWY the first time so will be sure to pick that up. Already own DKC, Dark Souls don't interest me. Mario Tennis I've got a bitter taste from the 3DS and Wii U ones still, but may get for the RPG (if Camelot are making RPGs again tho can we not have another Golden Sun?)
