Oda ends the first half of his series with the worst chapter in recent memory.

I thought it wasnt a bad chapter at all. Zoro training with Mihawk was sure kind of..ehhm unexpected up to the point that its just not what i thought how Zoro wants to climb the top.
Seems like "Yeah now i have two years to wait..mhh let`s make something normally my chara would never do to get stronger like Luffy does"".
But the whole Haki explanation i thought was decent.
Keeping it so simple but still explaining it without a flaw(or i don`t see one so far) sure is how Oda handles his stuff.

You make a good argument, but I have one strong reason to think it doesn't have anything to do with haki.
I'm not 100% on this but every time that haki has been used to hurt luffy he or someone else has commented on it, right?

This was even shown when Garp hit Luffy, something that happens a lot as well. So I think Oda may have been using those lines to hint to the reader that something was being used.
In Namis case, Luffy didn't comment on it and neither did anyone else in the crew. He also has bumps on his head afterwards which is often used to show comedic injuries.
As I recall he said it was her 'heart' (spirit) that made it damage him.

I don´t think haki can be funny. Haki means serious business. You can´t joke about Haki. Haki is like AIDS.

I would hope for something more subtle. Preferably in her final battle.
I have no interest in whether her haki (if she has it) would be useful in a fight at this point. Oda has far more roads of opportunity to explore with her.

I'm gonna have to disagree–I truly beleive that Nami's remarkable sense about the weather is haki related. Nowhere does it say that it only senses live things--what about Zoro in Alabasta sensing the breath of the rocks, and Roger understanding the poneglyphs becasue he can hear the voice of **every**thing.
And Nami is a gal with a strong will–as strong as they come. If she doesn't end up with King's haki at some point, I will be truly dumbfounded.

OK fair enough. But really we still don't know where it originated, so there's a surprise still there.
And back to my unaswered questions. They have primarily to do with King's. We know so little about it, but all the biggest guys in the series act like it's the shits. It's gotta do more than knock out fodder and animals and bend planks. I'm guessing, for example, that it may have been how Ray opened the neck rings on SA. i.e. it manipulates small objects, and maybe larger at some point. Maybe it's the answer to fighting Dofla's d/f in the end?
Also, we don't know the limitations–can you use 2 at the same time? Can you use it with d/f at the same time, or does it require too much concentration for most to do that? What happens when 2 people with the same observational haki fight at the same time--does it cancel out? Will Zoro's directional deficits be a good comic reason he's weak in observational haki? Can you touch someone like Magellan with the armor haki?
Still so many questions. Look ahead. Don't go down that dark path of despair! "Do not go gently into that good night," Greg. Live.

It's still OP and therefore better than anything else in that magazine. I was blown away the other day reading Vol 59 where I realized I completely missed he revealed Doc Q's weapon.

I disagree, the last 3-4 chapters are one big passage-cliffhanger, I read them all together and they work, for me. It's a kind of trailer of the next one piece, it's better than another climax because we had a monstrous one with the war, a few chapters ago.

Since Haki has een revalead ive been saiying that atleast Luffy/Zoro/Sanji would be able to use it at this point i think at the end of the series all of them will be able to use it, at some point, just my opinion, specially when i saw the Amazon Lilly girls.

The only thing that bothered me about the episode was Zoro asking for help but I understood its "acceptable" since he wants to be stronger to protect Luffy and everyone else like the rest of the crew and in a desert island that was probably is best chance, yeah he could have created another way for Zoro improvement in the 2 years but when i understand the meaning and knowing Zoro is sacrificing is pride to get stronger and protect his friends i dont get as bothered as if we didnt get an explanation, Kubo Style.

I had a friend who called it too! Though, that did kind of bother me a bit as well. Seemed a bit OOC at first.
But I must thank you for understanding what I meant. Each chapter doesn't have to be an: "HOLY MOTHER OF GOOD. THAT CHAPTER WAS COOLER THAN FRANKY ON A MOTORCYLE SCREAMING THE WORD "BREASTS"" kind of reaction. I enjoyed it's build and think that a good, slowed down chapter is a perfect cliffhanger for a boss return.

I think if you go to a forum too often, a lot of things become more obvious than they should be. Sure, haki has been hinted a lot in the past, but it's through forum discussion that it's become painfully obvious exactly what it does. All we await when it comes to the climax of such a thing is the confirmation of what most of us already take for granted. This, because there's always someone to predict the big stuff.

These are all things people predicted pretty much spot on from long discussions with different takes that mix into one general opinion. Had it been a weekly read that's never discussed, we wouldn't have put so much thought into it, and a lot of people may even have been surprised by the very fact that there was going to be a timeskip. And some even would've been intrigued with explaination of the "unknown force" that is haki.
Kuma as a revolutionary. Had it not been brought up in this forum, I would've never guessed it before his connection with Iva was revealed. I figured his comment about Dragon was just a mention of a famous name because it was about Luffy's father.
Same with Pacifista army. Same with Blackbeard's new recruits from Impel Down. These are all things I personally am a bit upset having been "semi-spoiled" with through the discussions on this forum. I know I won't stop reading, though, but I try to take every surprise with a pinch of salt if I feel that they're too obvious. I try to picture my reaction if I hadn't been prepared for this. Of course, the ones we don't predict are still much better. ;)
But when people start getting disappointed over these kinds of things, then i think it's time for them to stop reading too many predictions and theories, because most things will be sorted out by this forum long before the actual confirmation.

I agree that the haki explanation was totally expected, and nothing surprising. You have a good point, as you well know. Yup--absolutely nothing new releaved about haki at all, Zoro getting trained by Mihawk--awkweird--especially that happy Zoro face when Mihawl agreed (I squirmed inwardly for him). FTR--I am thinking that particular change to the story happened when the story got changed from the original 5 year plan to what we have today. And that's ok--in the long run--as long as he handles it well. Life changes, shit happens, and we go with the flow.
So back to the Haki discussion. I do in fact wish that Oda had chosen to tell us something we hadn't already seen about haki, but I suspect the reason is a similar one that someone else (Darkstorm, was that you?) used to explain the reason that Pell didn't die (another instance of something sorta... off.) He may be saving all the surprises for after the break. It's always a choice, as an author, when to reveal stuff and when to hold back, right? He is after all a human being with a secret, and having a secret is always great fun, so sometimes it's a little hard to just the "right moment" to relinquish said secret.
As I said, I believe that there is a lot more left to reveal about Haki, and I suspect Oda wants to reveal it carefully, perhaps in battle, much like he has all along with things like the Gears and etc. Was that the best choice for this moment? Perhaps not, but then again, as Zephos once wisely stated, everyting is supposed to be for the Tanks, right? In the tanks, this will not be the soul sucking break it is right now, because the next chapter will be, (probably), but a page turn or a new volume away. Does that make it a better choice–not really, but IMHO it potentially makes it less of a poor one. I am still willing to wait it out and see where he's taking us with all this. IMHO he may well make up for it as he reveals more in coming chapters, if the surprises are awesome enough.
I don't get the squeamishness about Mihawk teaching Zoro over this two-year period.
Maybe I've been watching too many movies where the student inevitably surpasses the master and am comfortable with the idea.

It's just that Mihawk wasn't always his master and was originally his goal. This isn't like those martial arts stories where the master specifically trains the student so that one day he can show his mastery of the art and kill his master in the process.
To some it felt more like Ryu begging Akuma to teach him use his special evil dark powers just so he could defeat him with it.

Well it's not that I'm sqeamish about them training together (it had to happen, really), just that Zoro was so openly happy about it when Mihawk agreed. I would have felt more comfy with a serious, if relieved, face, rather than that boyish "Oh Boy!" look he had. He just doesn't look that way often, so that moment seemed out of character to me. JMHO, of course.
I'm still overall happy with the chapter. I liked that Luffy was happy again. I liked the hat scene. I loved the way Luffy was so irreverent to Rayleigh, lol! I also even liked that Luffy was barely paying attention to Ray as he explained things. Luffy said it for all of us–we've seen that haki many times before--Oda knows we're saying that. Then Ray said the other half that I'm arguing to Greg–there is still so much to reveal. I'm still thinking there's a trick or two up Oda's sleeve--and I'm betting he sacrificed here to make them all the better at the actual reveal.
But Mihawk is still his ultimate goal. That hasn't changed at all.
(I better understand the Ryu/Akuma analogy, but it's not like Zoro's doing a Faustian deal in order to get stronger. Zoro swallowed his pride for himself, his captain, and the rest of the crew. That's it.)
