Colbert T_____________T

@Purple:
The list by Vox is by no means comprehensive, and they mention that they probably missed a good amount in the article.
They missed Joe Quesada and Alex Trebek at the very least, and Trebek actually had an actual scene and lines.
So yeah. Lotta people.
I imagine the show might release a list eventually.
-
Could have sworn I saw Guilermo Del Toro in there.
-
The finale of Craig Ferguson is already starting off great.
! With a cameo return of the puppets.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
LOL!
! The ending is amazing. The entire show was a dream to the Drew Carey Show. With Craig being Mr. Wick again
-
Well that's that for the most absurd late night talk show ever. The ending was very fitting lol.
Best part of the finale for me was Craig's reaction to that 3rd email.
-
To me the best part of the finale beside the ending of the episode was Craig's opening segment after the opening song.
-
Sorry Craig. It was a cute ending bit, but well… it was a much weaker final episode than Colbert's, I have to say. Not your fault you had to follow up that a day later, but...
Still, a nice farewell overall, may you have fun adventures ahead.
-
Finally saw the Colbert Finale…. I teared up a bit... wow, weird... I mean, The Daily Show had been around forever, I just assumed Colbert would have been the same... so when it finally ended, it kinda got to me. Especially when he half broke character at the end and thanked everyone in the sleigh.
-
We've got a date for Stephen Colbert's "Late Night" debut. September 8th.
http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/cbs-stephen-colbert-late-show-start-date-20150112
-
Yikes. I knew Letterman was going to take a few more months still, and obviously Colbert needs time to set up new bits ideas and studio and all… but not till September? Yeek.
-
Late show with Stephen Colbert in September?
That's kinda late
-
If he's not starting until September why did he end the Colbert Report in fucking December!? What a rip.
-
If he's not starting until September why did he end the Colbert Report in fucking December!? What a rip.
Contract expiration with Comedy Central done on a yearly basis, and I'm guessing they also didn't have all of the details of how long it would be til he hosted sorted out right away
-
Conan Obrien had a similar gap between ending Late Night and taking over the Tonight Show… from February to June.... and that was planned and contracted 5 years ahead of time and a transition on the same network.
And then the actual show only lasted 7 months before Leno ruined everything.... so it ended in January and then he couldn't start the TBS show until September. But that was all contractual nonsense.
It does take time to set up a new thing, even with an established host.. I just don't think any of us expected it to be quiiite that
long.On the other hand, going further back, Letterman ended Late Night in June 93 and then started Late Show in August 93, but CBS didn't have a pre-existing show with a pre-existing host at that point.
-
The gap in Colbert's shows, while long and a bit sad for me, isn't as perplexing as the gap between Letterman's projected exit (May) and Colbert taking over in September… Wouldn't the network want that stuff to happen RIGHT Away? I mean, the whole Leno-O'Brien disaster was horrible overall, but at least there wasn't a big gap in airtime for the show. Leno exited May 29th and O'Brien came in June 1st.
-
Craig Ferguson ended his run a coupe weeks ago and James Corden isn't taking over till the end of March.
It might actually be a respect thing. Starting up right after a legend retires is too soon.. wait a few months to show some of Letterman's best episodes over the summer.
Other than that, promotions, getting advertisers in place, making sure all the affiliates are in line? Wait to do the premieres in sweeps? Giving Colbert's old show a chance to settle with its new host without him competing with it almost immediately?
Also, looking into it, Colbert will be using (and renovating) the same studio/theater that Letterman occupies so its not quite the same as designing and making a new set off site in a totally different location. It purely won't be ready to go the next week, or two weeks later. 3 is still a bit much, but…
-
I really liked to watch Ferguson the most, i will definitely miss it
-
-
Anybody watching The Nightly Show I'm enjoying it so far.
-
Me. I like his more satirical edge. And the panelists at the end are a neat twist in the format that's fun and interesting. Keep it a 100.
-
Jimmy fallon is great
-
This is too great.
-
Wow, hasn't he been trying to arrange that for… years now? Crazy.
Guess Late Night wasn't good enough for a reunion, but the Tonight Show is.
-
Jimmy Fallon is, indeed, awesome:
-
This is too great.
Incredible.
Although Belding looks like he's been comically inflated. Haskins picked up a lot of weight.
-
Like I thought, Jimmy's been trying to do this for YEARS now. Apparently they basically all agreed to do it back in 2009 except Thiessen, which I guess is why it wasn't done at the time?
And apparently Thiessen is actually pregnant, not just a gag.
On March 27, 2009, NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon launched a campaign to get the cast on board for a Saved by the Bell reunion. Fans signed an online petition and pledged their support for the cast to reunite on the show. Dennis Haskins, Lark Voorhies, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar agreed to a reunion.[13][14] Gosselaar reprised his role as Zack Morris in a skit on Late Night on June 8, 2009, while promoting his then current TNT drama, Raising the Bar. The spoof interview closed with a performance of "Friends Forever," originally by Zack Attack, where Zack played guitar and sang with backing from Fallon's house band, The Roots. Tiffani Thiessen posted a parody video to the website Funny or Die, where she claimed she was too busy to join the reunion.[15]
The cast reunited in August 2009 for a photo shoot in People Magazine. Diamond was not invited to participate in the photo shoot because of poor relationships with the rest of the cast. Diamond’s image was also edited out of the 1989 cast photo that was used on the cover inset of an issue of People Magazine to show how the cast looked 20 years later.[16]
The cast convened again when Haskins, Diamond, Gosselaar, Voorhies, and Lopez did their own voices in a Saved by the Bell Saw parody, called "Sawed by the Bell", on "Boo Cocky", a season three episode of Robot Chicken. Gosselaar also provided audio commentary for the episode on the DVD.
On February 4, 2015, the cast appeared on a skit on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon as a part of a one-week stint o shows originating from Los Angeles. Haskins, Gosselaar, Lopez, Berkley and Thiessen all participated, though Voorhies and Diamond did not, with Thiessen's real-life pregnancy, Lopez's involvement with Dancing with the Stars and Berkley's post-Bell film Showgirls the targets of some of the humour.
-
Whoa indeed
http://theverge.com/e/7780298 -
Wow… I never thought this was going to happen.
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Given the timing, maybe he's leaving so he can play Spider-Man.
No, that makes no sense.
Green Lantern?
-
Huh, I wonder what they'll do to replace him.
-
I…. just.... but.... wait... REALLY?!?!?!
I... I kinda thought Jon Stewart would just... always be there... this is kinda crazy.
-
I'm not surprised.
Stewart seem to be losing a bit of his game lately, and his routine was starting to get a little stale. I mean how many times can you say that Fox and Republicans are bad? He's been doing that since day one, and I would figure it would get repetive after awhile. His loss is big of course, but I think he wants to get on with his career, and after all those awards, and praise, I don't blame him.
A shame though, that if John Oliver had stuck around a few more months, that show would have probably been his.
-
I've sort of been expecting him to move on soon, since he has been at this for a while, but it's still a shame because he's been a pretty huge staple of late night television and successfully supercharged and run one of the most important satires of our time.
The question is: will someone replace him? If so, who? I guess Samantha Bee and Jason Jones would be up for it by seniority. They did both replace John for a day back in October, so maybe they were testing the waters?
-
Yeah, its really awkward cause John Oliver was by far the best choice to take over for either him or Colbert… and he went and got his own HBO show. (Its extra weird cause Oliver is basically DOING the Daily Show on his HBO show, just with 15 minute monologues and only once a week.)
I don't really care for Larry Wilmore, but he did at least bring something else to the table, had been around for a while, and was the next logical choice. (though that said, in the hypothetical of Oliver staying, I can't imagine him in the secondary show and then Wilmore in the Daily Show a year later. That would have to mix some.)
But after that? I can't think of anyone currently within the show that could carry it, regardless of seniority or how long they've been there. Samantha and Jason have been there forever sure, but they can barely carry 3 minute skits, they can't hold their own show.
I wonder if they're going to have to go outside the pool to get someone.
But Stewart, the character of Colbert, Letterman, and (I guess) Leno all leaving in the course of about 18 months? That's just WEIRD.
-
Yeah… honestly, I haven't seen the nightly show yet, but I also hadn't been watching The Daily Show much since Colbert's show ended anyway. I need to get caught up.
But either way, John Oliver was CLEARLY the best choice, so this is quite weird to me now and I have no idea who could possibly take over at this point. I agree that nobody currently on the show could take over to be honest.
The only ones I think might do well if given the chance would be Aasif Mandvi or Jessica Williamson, but I don't know if they could hold their own in the long run. -
Out of the current options, I would pick Jason. If he could tone back his approach a little bit, I think he could have staying power and he's had a pretty big presence in the show, too. Aasif would be an interesting choice, but he's always been underutilized, so my mental picture of him is less clear.
-
So up next, the South Park guys finally quit for good, right?
I mean they've been wanting to quit since at least episode 100 (they're now past 250) and have been pretty upfront about that for like 10 years that they're really only in it for the money.
-
Aww man. Why Jon, why? Who's gonna be calling out the politicians on theri bullshit now?
Damn, this sucks. :cwy:
-
Somebody on MSNBC just pointed out the worst thing about him retiring now; next year is an election year.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Seriously though, we just lost Colbert, WHY does Stewart have to do this now? Can't he wait until after next year's election? Can't he hold out? Whyyyyyyyyyy!?
Out of the current options, I would pick Jason. If he could tone back his approach a little bit, I think he could have staying power and he's had a pretty big presence in the show, too. Aasif would be an interesting choice, but he's always been underutilized, so my mental picture of him is less clear.
I personally would vote for Aasif, but would all the racist idiots out there accept him?
-
If racist idiots are watching the daily show, they're probably hate-watching it because they're super salty about the content.
Mandvi being the host would probably make them watch it more
-
So, I'm getting caught up with The Nightly Show. I started watching from the very first episode and am now on the Feb 5th Episode ("Designer Babies") so I think I've gotten a good feel for the show by now.
In a nutshell, I like it! I like that he seems to just be himself too, was kinda worried we'd get him playing a character like Colbert, and not sure you can catch lightning in a bottle like that twice. Or maybe he IS doing a character and it's so good I can't tell?
I like that his show seems to focus on one issue through the whole episode rather than simply Fake reporting the news Like Jon does, and I like that he has a panel, (Tho, I hope the panel starts getting more names as time goes on)
This show has a different feel than The Daily Show which is good, it needs that to not feel redundant.Only thing I'm iffy about is the "Keeping it 100" segment at the end… it doesn't really feel... natural... like it's an actual thing that contributes to the conversation or the topic, moreso just like "Hey, we needed to fill the last third of the show... this'll do." Some of the stuff they say during that is funny, but overall it feels forced and meh
I hope they play with the format more and either refine the concept or drop it entirely and do something new in the last 3rd.Either way, I'm gonna keep watching.
-
Jason Jones is leaving The Daily Show for a new show that will be on TBS. So he's out.
-
Damn, lots of people jumping ship on the Daily Show. Will it even continue? I guess that's Comedy Central's call.
I suppose Samantha's next in line for seniority, but I can really only stand so much of her.
-
Well, most of the people who have been on the show for a while, have been on the show for a WHILE. Years and years. The earlier correspondants from the start of Jon's tenure went on to have movie careers and are just getting better offers elsewhere.
But yes, they'll want to continue the show after Jon leaves, its been a 20 year staple… but its becoming more and more clear they'll have to get some outsider to host rather than promoting from within, all the talent that could conceivably have done it has their own show now.
Cause no, Samantha can't carry a show. She just can't.
Maybe some lamer from Saturday Night Live will be up for it and then prove to be much better on a talkshow than on SNL.
-
Just ditch the guest interviews and give the show to Lewis Black.
-
I suppose Samantha's next in line for seniority, but I can really only stand so much of her.
She's going with her husband.
-
Just ditch the guest interviews and give the show to Lewis Black.
I would be 100% okay with that, actually.
-
@Mr.:
She's going with her husband.
I figured that might be the case, but wasn't gonna assume.
