Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)

I'm actually seriously playing around with the thought of Koala being a potential candidate. Here me out. It's been 15 years since the flashback. Who knows how she might have changed in terms of combative skill. Fisher Tiger expressed great admiration for her mentality. She might have turn out to be quite the radical fighter battling for the weak and oppressed be it by brawn or diplomacy. She might even re-enter the story once Oda shakes things up with new enemies, new challenges, new trouble. It would definitely be a more original way for Oda to introduce a potential candidate. Random flashback character becoming someone important to the story.

But this is all based on speculation and a bunch of ifs. I don't really care for it. Just an interesting idea. Jimbei is way more likely at this point.

Plus its pretty obvious there was a big split when Jimbei became a shichibukai. What exactly caused the split and the terms we'll find out soon, but I'd imagine it was conflict between him and Arlong, but it might have also been part of the shichi deal.

But there's not a single reason for half a second at this point to guess that she'd be joining the crew.

Hachi was still in the island in the hospital for two years. He was in a different district but it still counts as part of FI since it was shown being patrolled by guards. There's nothing to suggest he was forced to leave, even with the Sunny mark being clear as day on his forehead.

Furthermore, in Impel Down Jinbe was still referred as "captain of the fishman pirates." And in the flashbacks there were plenty of characters that were not part of Arlong's crew, including Aladdin. It's a pretty big crew, and Arlong didn't just recruit former Sunny pirates, as seen with VDD and Hyouzou. So far there's nothing that says that all the ex-sunnies joined Arlong (or Macro) or that the crew was disbanded as of yet.

Does this throw out the possibility of Jinbe joining? No. But there is still a good chance he still has his crew.

No, we know he recuperated in the Fishman District, which is outside of Fishman Island. It's where he argued with Hodi and VDD, which is before they were seen entering the island. After he got shot with 20 arrows or whatever he drifted into Fishman Island and was found then.

But more importantly, there's been no sign in all of the tons of chapters that Hachi has appeared in that he even HAS a bounty. Yes, he was a pirate, but without a bounty it doesn't really matter.

Most pirates don't have bounties unless they're captains or vice-captains or part of a very small crew (like the SHs). That doesn't make them any less of pirates. As far as we know only Jinbe and Fisher Tiger had bounties of the Sunny Pirates. Does that mean that only Jinbe was forced to leave? Not really.

Meh - they don't seem to have much to stand on for compelling reasoning. But that said Koala is going to be important in some way - maybe not this Arc but she will be important. Also on the Revolutionary tag - Robin is not hearing this story and she spent 2 years with them most likely if Koala is with them she will know it - and of course not bring up that information till much later.

Aside from Aladdin, every single sunny pirate we've seen in the flashbacks was either with Macro or Arlong in the present.

I'm sure there were others, Arlong had a lot of fodder guys, but no one that's been important enough to give designs, names, panel time or dialogue to so far.

And in the present, there's never been another fishman even in Jimbei's vicinity, aside from Tom's brother. If Luffy had gotten to the graveyard and Jimbei had his 6 most loyal buds with him, that'd be different. But no, he was alone. Like he always is.

There's other fishmen. And as far as we know Tiger got all the freed fishman slaves and made them into his crew. I doubt that that only consists of one guy, Aladdin.
Just because we aren't given their names and they haven't been given starring roles doesn't mean they don't exist.

A bunch of unnamed fodder with no presence fills up backgrounds, little more. They aren't important to the story, and for all intents of purposes, until Jimbei at least mentions one of them or talks to them, they're incredibly irrelevent.

Remember information is not as encompassing as it seems in One Piece. All this time Luffy never heard the full reason why Arlong caused pain to Nami. Seriously I have problems with people not recognising this in a sense, what we the viewer knows and what the characters interacting on the manga are represented to know are often polar opposites.

You're so blinded by what you want to see that you don't see what's placed right in front of you. The royalty clearly has no control over that area, which is why Tiger even had the option of taking control of it in the first place.

WB had an enormous crew, but most of them were not named. They are still part of WB's crew. Same with Foxy; his crewmembers are still crewmembers, even those that didn't participate in the games. They may not be important, but Oda isn't going to make them magically disappear.

Brook's crew was dead.
Franky's crew wasn't a pirate crew. The whole reason why he went with the SHs was because he got a bounty and thus had to leave. If Franky's crew were already outlaws or at least international outlaws Franky would have stayed with them.
Baratie wasn't a pirate crew either.
And a village does not count as a pirate crew.

Like I said, having a crew does not mean Jinbe can't join, but it does throw a curveball there.

There are places in Mexico where the police force is almost entirely controlled by drug cartels. They're still part of Mexico.

It's not like I don't want Jinbe to join. TBH I hope he joins because I can't see any other character joining and a fishman joining is what I've been hoping for since I first started reading the manga.

Macro is a slave-trader, something completely legal in Saobody. He wouldn't have a bounty.
If Jinbe was the only person with a bounty that was expelled by FI, they would have said that "Jinbe is not allowed on the Island anymore" not "the sunny pirates are not allowed on the island anymore." Kind of dumb to say the latter when you only really mean one member of that crew. Especially when Sunny Pirates all have the same mark, they're easy to identify.

If Jinbe didn't feel any responsibilities to the Sunny crew he wouldn't have become Captain to begin with. Whitebeard didn't show any affection for random WB pirate #44 but that doesn't mean he didn't consider his entire crew his children. Saying that Jinbe doesn't care about his crew and thus can just leave them freely is a bit silly. And just because the rest of the sunnies haven't been relative until now doesn't mean they can't later on.

Also I doubt Jinbe would leave his crew to Hodi, someone who used one of his own crewmembers as a shield.

Can it be fixed? yes it can, but until then Jinbe is not a shoe-in.

I'm not gonna force the issue with Jinbe's crew. I just think he has one based off what we know and the likelihood of w/e fallout occurs after FT's death. Unless is just a loner not ready to lead a crew on his own and take up FT's mantle at the time.

Seeing as he's so sympathetic about letting Arlong loose and has concerns with Hodi fighting Luffy given the theme and ongoing conflict that Jinbe's always going be apart of I don't see why he wouldn't stick around and try to mentor Hodi since I don't see him immediately being redeemed after he gets his ass kicked. Seems like Jinbe would fit that role perfectly, make up for some past mistakes by teaching him what FT and Otohime were about at the least. Joining the SHs doesn't seem logical or compatible with his character since he puts a lot on his shoulders and constantly wants to be responsible and sees certain tasks as his duty.

Yeah that is the other thing - Jinbei really gives off the Hermit Vibe. I'm not saying he doesn't care or that he thinks his above others. Just seems like he would rather be alone then in the presence of others. Being in the Schichi (not even going to attempt to spell it) - Being a loner like "Boss" in the Military.
Fighting with Tiger but somehow looking appart (if that makes sense)

Now leaving even if "banished" he is more then strong enough to go where he pleases and iirc most people still respect him. Maybe Aohige can shed some better light on the nature of his banishment if it was more self imposed or involuntary. Not even sure if there is that much inflection in the language to represent that.

When Elder Nyon herself stated the Sun Pirates broke up into individual crews [[i.e. Arlong Pirates,Macro Pirates]].

And it's been implied in the manga for ages now that Jinbe broke up his crew after he became a Shichibukai.

Also the chapter when Jinbe steals the Marine Battleship is called "FORMER Captain of the Fishman Pirates Jinbe".

Come on fellas, come up with valid reasons why Jinbe can't join instead of grabbing at straws. :getlost:

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You're so wrapped up in your view of the situation that you don't see the clear points standing against it. By your definitions, the Sea Forest should also be a part of Fishman Island. So pray tell me, why was Jinbe forced to wait there instead of coming inside the island bubble if they're all just the same place anyway?

The reason for the bounty isn't what's important here. All that matters is that it exists, declaring him an enemy of the world they're trying to integrate into. Also, I was referring to him leaving for East Blue.

Macro is a slave-trader, something completely legal in Saobody. He wouldn't have a bounty.

And guess which pathetically weak little Fishman has been able to run around freely right next to Marineford with no problems? Be warned, though, I'm not going to give you a ton of guesses.

Nope I have a very clear Idea - but I want to present it a bit more clearly - which means not typing it up at 430am while at work between work. I am also making sure I am happy with it and it doesn't go on forever but is with enough depth not to be just dismissed.

When Nyon said that the Sunny pirates broke up I figured she meant that a small part went with Macro, some went with Arlong, and some stayed with Jinbe. Remember that they were all their own crews that only unified to help out Fisher Tiger and thus had no reason to stay together when he passed away.

and I have to look for a translation of that chapter because I distinctly remember him being referred to as captain, not former captain.

I never understood why a SH HAD to join in this arc anyway. Add to the fact that this is the first arc since the time skip chances of a new nakama joining were even slimmer.

Everybody just kept assuming that a mer/fishman (that uses fishman karate) had to join because of how unique they are and the crew is filled with unpractical looking characters. When you look at this arc and the way Oda's been focusing and building up the theme since the Arlong arc that's obviously bigger than another character joining the crew at the moment.

The argument isn't Jinbe had a crew so he can't join the SHs. Somebody said Jinbe has nowhere else to go so why not join the SHs.

Also, given that he is no longer a shichibukai, the door is open for him to gather the old gang.

Arlong left to East Blue before Jinbe lost his Shichibukai status - most likely the reason that Jinbe and the rest of the sunny pirates arent' allowed on the island anymore. I fail to see your point here.

Since Macro is a fishman he probably doesn't stay around long enough in Saobody because he risks getting captured and sold himself. Furthermore, marines probably ignore weaker pirates, especially when they don't have a bounty.

Camie says since Jinbe quit Shichibukai, those who were former Fishmen Pirates couldn't stay on FI anymore.
And THEY left ALONG WITH Jinbe.

The dialog specifically mentions that the former fishman pirates who were on FI left with Jinbe after the war.

So no, Jinbe did not leave the island alone.

I haven't read mangastream's version I can't comment on translation issues.

Why would Oda even bother introducing random Characters as Jinbe's crew when he's implied the entire time Jinbe is alone.

Half of them are with Macro and the other half Locked up with Arlong
the only person I think we even have a chance of seeing is Aladdin
but even then ,he wont stop Jinbe from joining the Sh.

If Jinbe had a crew they would have been waiting with him in the Sea Forest.

There were other pirates in the Sunny crew aside from Macro, Aladdin and Arlong. And I doubt that all of them aside from Aladdin, Gyaro and Tansui joined Arlong.
A lot probably just chilled in Fishman Island and got normal lives, like Hachi did with his takoyaki stand, or hanged out with Jinbe until he was thrown in Impel Down.

They are probably in a ship somewhere, waiting for Jinbe to come back.
Honestly I don't know why Jinbe would disband his crew in the first place - Hancock didn't. Moria had a crew too even if most of them were animated zombies.

I never understood why a SH HAD to join in this arc anyway. Add to the fact that this is the first arc since the time skip chances of a new nakama joining were even slimmer.

Everybody just kept assuming that a mer/fishman (that uses fishman karate) had to join because of how unique they are and the crew is filled with unpractical looking characters. When you look at this arc and the way Oda's been focusing and building up the theme since the Arlong arc that's obvious bigger than another character joining the crew at the moment.

You don't honestly think those are the only reasons people expect a mer/fishman to join. I refuse to believe you've been that deaf to the arguments.

See, Oda was very clear to say "there's a border and Jinbe is out on this side of it because he's wanted and doesn't want to cause problems." This is ridiculously clear that the areas outside of the Fishman Island bubble aren't nearly as much of a concern in regards to the reverie. Whether he's outside or inside of that bubble is enough of a difference for all the characters in the manga, it's just not enough for you. This is what I mean when I say you've blinded yourself.

Because those of us who accept you without question would be far worse off should you ever leave.

It's easy for us to make the misconceptions but when we're corrected we value the extra knowledge - those that argue MAY and I use the word May with extream optimism be brand new and not have a clear idea who people are. I know it took me a while since I hung around in the Anime section till I started reading the Manga and then even more for not going into the Spoiler section.
