The 50% of the people who liked MoS REALLY liked it though. There was almost no middle ground with that one.
DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
-
-
And the 50% that hated it REALLY hated it.
I've said it before, it probably would have been okay as its own property, but it was completely wrong for Superman, and on that merit, it failed completely.
-
Actually Superman was awesome in the Movie. The trailers putted him in the wrong light. Thats why i said that the trailers are misleading. Superman is actual superman in BvS. The problem i have with superman, clark, are those cheesy parts. I love MoS but i dislike the Kiss before he fought General Zod. I dont want to see something like that, at all.^^
Cant wait to see it again today, this time the english version, which i guess will be a bit better than the german dub version.
Ah about 'no fun allowed' it has some funny moments^^. Especially the scene 'is she with you'. It actually works in the movie itself^^.
Of course there is more great stuff. You shouldnt miss that movie. Especially since you guys have low expectations^^. -
Watched it, for what it was I've enjoyed it. I don't have problem with "not muh" "no fun". I'm writing out of theatre, so I won't be writing out wall of text. Audience gave applause.
-
Saw it last night.
Honestly I do agree that the movie has issues, whether it is the editing or the story telling, I'll let you be the judge of that. However, the movie is visually stunning, the action is top notch, absolutely incredible soundtrack together with amazing sound design, the performances by the actors are great. Overall I'd give the movie an 8/10, and for it to be received worse than Iron Man 2, 3, Thor 1+2, CA:TFA and the Age of Ultron is beyond me. Then again everyone likes something else right?
Also I highly suggest you go see it in IMAX, when the aspect ratio switches to the IMAX resolution for the Bats v Soops fight it's absolutely breathtaking.

Spoilers.
People here will LOVE it.

! "Batman is a killer in my movie because of a YouTube Video showcasing Batman killing people".
! "It's okay that he killed those people, because they got in the way of something he caused. It wasn't him!"
! Tim Burton certainly didn't create the "no killing" rule either. -

31% right now.
Now the bet is if it gets below 30%.
-
This is painful to watch: Snyder and cast react to poor reviews.
I actually feel bad for the cast. Affleck spent so much time climbing up from the dark hole he was in and now it's Daredevil all over again.

Will it get below Green Lantern's 26%?

Alright people who have watched the film, is it true that:

because if so then

Wow …. using the whole "critics were after us from the beginning" is just retarded and cringe-worthy. I mean seriously would it really kill them to understand critics pov? Jeez
And while i may have jumped the gun before, now it definitely seems like the whole production crew is pulling " critics don't understand our vision".
-
One can say that, yes. But the name wasnt the point. But see for yourselve.

All gaffing and goofing aside, hopefully I can catch the movie this weekend. I do have work and a lot of studying to do….

But its true and you know that.

Deadpool got super positive reviews just a month ago and is breaking box office records. And Affleck has gotten tons of praise and awards for his work.
It ain't the genre or expectations or the actors that's the problem. Even SNyder, love or hate his work, overall has a positive review track record. (Aside from Sucker Punch…) It's the movie, not the critics.
Now if Civil War hits in a month and gets panned, that's another thing. (If Marvel really wanted to stick it in, they'd start letting reviews come out super early, like, 4 weeks ahead, right on the heels of this mess. No embargo.)
-
Nobody defended The Last Airbender when it got shredded by critics, but on the whole it was deemed reasonable criticism.
Nobody defended Fant4stic when it was eviscerated by reviews, but people thought that was reasonable.
But a 2.5 hour long thing where even the positive reviews tend to be "well, it could have been worse?" The critics are out to get us!
-
Dutch newspapers are savaging the movie as well. And they have no interest in Marvel/DC dick measuring contests since superhero movies aren't that big here.
-
Well, about three hours from now, the previews will be ending, and I'll start watching BvS. I'll let y'all know what I think afterwards…
I honestly think that I might like it no matter what.
I'm a blind fanboy, and I'm proud of it.
-
Two and a half hours till I see this turkey…lord give me strength.
-
Im also off to watch it again. I have a strong desire to do it^^. I also know that i have to watch it again, because i now know how it all goes down, so i can relax now and hopefully i enjoy it more.
The first time i watched MoS i just said to my brother, dude the action is amazing you have to see that shit. I didnt care for Superman at all i just thought that it was visually amazing. Then i watched it again and i loved, and cared about, all the other stuff too. -

Not in the slightest…It wasn't even a good guy doing the destruction in Star Wars.
Ah well. Looks like I'll be seeing this Saturday.
-
Huh? When did Star Wars become a superhero movie?
-
Huh? When did Star Wars become a superhero movie?
Well Snyder's point was "how come nobody's complaining about Star Wars murdering lots of innocent people? It's hella popular but doesn't get that hate!"
Of course, he fails to see the point was that a giant planet destroying weapon that was supposed to be seen as a horrific atrocity is slightly different than a hero who's supposed to be protecting the lives of innocents
-
I dont understand why he answered that stupid question in the first place. Thats the stupidest critique ever on earth, i would just laugh about such a question, lol.
-
Is it the stupidest critique on earth? When Superman is the most iconic of DC heroes in terms of being a very upstanding individual in the same way that Batman is not a killer in most stories, is Superman really Superman if he becomes more of an ends justifies the means character? The question certainly warrants an answer when you're dealing with justifying your already darker tone, and laughing it off would've been arguably worse than the answer Snyder gave (which was already a pretty poor response)
-
Superman being a killer if the franchise was Hancock or Miracleman or Sentry or Astro City or Squadron SUpreme or Rising Stars or the Matrix or any number of other expies.
Telling that kind of story with that kind of character is fine. There are plenty of stories that take a basically realistic stance on if a superpowered godlike being came to earth and what that level of power would do, to both society and the character, and those stories work fine. There's a ton of characters that are powered and origined similar to Superman that do a different take, and that's totally fine. Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen isn't quite a Superman expie, but some of the same storytelling ideas apply.
Telling that kind of story with SUPERMAN is missing the point of the character entirely.
(And yes, even Supes himself goes dark once in a while like when he kills Zod… (which is something he regretted for the next TWENTY YEARS in the comics) or when its an alt reality tale like Earth -2 or Dark Knight or Red Sun, where its just a one off short story and its like "yeah, this is what would happen if Superman went bad." But those are in context of a limited one-off. 3 or 4 issues at a time, up against HUNDREDS of other Superman comics that come out every year, against the thousands over the decades. Specifically there as a contrast, to be "not the norm". Most of the times when those stories are told, the entire focus of the story is "Superman isn't being Superman and that's totally wrong." NEver "isn't it cool that SUperman is killing now?"
Also, see Reign of the Supermen after he died, where the best Superman of the lot was Steel, the only one that had nothing genetic going on and they totally played up the trendy or angsty angles with Cyborg SUperman and Eradicator and Superboy.
-
Could've been an alternate universe movie with the Justice Lords, too.
-
Meanwhile:
-
Maybe Snyder should've checked out something like What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & The American Way instead of exclusively focusing on the works of Frank Miller and Alan Moore (and Ayn Rand).
-
Is that comic good? I might just check it out.
-
It's great, especially if you like a story that reinforces the values Superman fights for and how they will always be relevant. The villains are a bit too strawmen though. They also made an awesome animated movie of it, Superman vs. the Elite, if you prefer that.
-
They could always adapt this modern Superman amirite????
On a serious note, I did like Man of Steel for what it's worth but I did find the look of the movie a little off and I hated the editing because the scenes just jumped from one to the next. It seems like this movie is the same way but I am probably going to see it within the next few days (if they had a midnight release I would see it but I'm not missing basketball for this movie).
-
Now i feel REALLY bad for Zack and the actors. That movie is nearly perfect in every way. I cant believe how much i changed my opinion about that movie. I am halfway through the second time and it is soooooo much better than the first time. That shit is a freaking masterpiece and the great stuff hasnt even started yet. OMG
-
Starting to wonder if Takto is secretly Zack Snyder

Love the Superman vs The Elite movie because it shows how truly terrifying Superman can be if he didn't have the morals and values that he grew up with.
Morals and values that Zack Snyder could give two shits about it seems
-
Not saying he is but on khinsider we had a guy who seemed to be a plant from fox doing damage control for fan4tastic.
-
If he was Snyder I don't think he'd be here lol
-
I feel so bad for him tbh.
-
I feel so bad for him tbh.
Don't worry. His surely huge paycheck will make up for it.
Plus, he is all but guaranteed to get his own solo Batman movie.

Finished! BEST CBM EVER. Freaking amazing. I feel soooo sorry for the entire team that they have to deal with human scum. And for that dick move, i promise that i will never ever watch a marvel movie again. Them assholes

Huh? What does Marvel have to do with this?

Something about a conspiracy about critics loving marvel but hating DC, I'm sure
-

Uh, what?
People dislike this film because they do. Those same people probably loved TDK.

So either you are Zack secretly promoting the movie or you were paid by him …... or you just have the biggest blind fanboy goggles.....
Human scum? ..... So are you able to explain why this movie is an apparent masterpiece instead of insulting people who didn't have as low standards as you and went in expecting a good character-driven story that at least portrayed these characters with some level of respect instead of making something that would make them more money?
-
Frankly I'm just amazed at the 180 he did going from disappointed to BEST CBM EVER
-
Maybe it was a huge disappointment that his mind is coping with it by turning it into what he wanted all along…...
-
You can't hate Marvel for making great movies while DC straggles along trying desperately to catch up. You can't blame the negative reviews on other movies and studios that have nothing to do with this movie. Judge the movie in its own right and only play the blame game with the players on the board. You're directing your anger at the wrong people.
I really want to like this movie and when I see it I hope I enjoy it as much as you did but regardless of our tastes we have to admit. Zack probably fucked this one up. Not necessarily because of the overall negative reviews but if the movie itself is as unstructured and scatterplot as people are making it seem then there really was no sense of direction and DC should have done a proper MoS sequel before this. I will defend MoS until I die and this movie should have been better…by a lot.
-
@Purple:
Frankly I'm just amazed at the 180 he did going from disappointed to BEST CBM EVER
I wasnt disappointed. And there was also no 180. It is just a different expierence once you watched it. You know what will happen and how its gonna happen. You can just relax and lean back and ultimately enjoy it. I dont have any problem with the jumpy storytelling, anymore. It was weird the first time, but the second time it was actually one of the movies positive parts. Some scenes are amazing from a narrative point of view.
Ah and i watched the english version the second time. First time was the german dub.
