Mashima couldn't kill a single old man. And now he expects readers to believe the whole cast is in mortal danger.
Mashima Hiro, ladies and gentlemen.
Thing is he shoehorned a SEVEN year timeskip after that ending.
I gotta say I'm confused.

So? Mashima heard all the big sellers do timeskips all the time.
"Hiro! This is your chance! If you make a timeskip, then you can draw Lucy with even bigger boobs that barely fit in her new even sluttier outfit! Now how do I make this boringly obvious?.."
Dammit, I wanted to stop reading, but now this ending makes me want to keep reading the next arc just out of confusion? Did Mashima make this chapter for reader who didn't like this arc? Weird.
Oh and as someone on NF said, Wendy's gonna come back with two more reasons to keep the fans interested.
Confirms what I've said many times. I only read Fairy Tail for the women. And now my little Wendy will be 19-20 years old… drools
But if Wendy grows up, how is Mashima going to keep that pedo part of fanbase.
Throw in another useless loli character. Problem solved.
I like this, can't wait to see the new character designs, 7 years is a long time so they should look a lot different :) Or maybe the spell they casted teleported them 7 years into the future and they look completely the same lol
At the very least Wendy won't be a weakling anymore. 7 years are many years.
@Thousand:

"Genius! Hiro, now you will show those naysayers who were all about manga with plot and this character development thingie!.."
We must use our power of necromancy to summon Robby back to this thread !
So, who's that woman that was praying or something?
Maybe she is… Mavis?
Calling it now, Wakaba and Macao jointly run the guild as Guildmaster. Also, Lahar is the head of the Council, and Rustyrose is the new Grimoire Heart Guildmaster.
What a dubious chapter. Right now I read it after watching "Please may I whip your kids" and I can only see their actions in dark shade. Yet the dragon destroying the island is impressive. But then again, spreads of apocalyptic events suck monkey balls only in Bleach. Everyone else get win points no matter how they handle it, Kubo just has a talent for such things. I'll take a wild guess and say that they used power of friendship (to multiply the power of that magic union trick, no asspull here) and moved into the future.
Oh Mashima… at least we got rid of Natsu.
K, I'm calling it now. This new guy has to reincarnate everyone through using his dragon slayer of Time powers.

The problem with what you are saying is it may come true. Mashima is not a good writer so ill expect something cheezy like this to happen.
The hopefull side of me is thinking mayve he killed off the main cast because his formula of Natsu last minute uograde to defeat an opponent was getting stale.
Oh Mashima… at least we got rid of Natsu.
And got someone who'se even blander as our protagonist, so far.
If the main cast wasn't saved through magic, I expect them to escape on a submarine.

Everyone got teleported back to Fairy Tail with Mavis Vermillion help. This should be pretty obvious.
Suddenly I remember the theory that the Strawhats were teleported back to the Sunny by Kuma in Sabaondy, lol.
This twist here certainly made things more interesting, no matter what the outcome is. Really, this series has alot of potential, if it wasn't so rushed and poorly using the friendship theme, it would be quite good.
Lol this chapter ,Natsu learns a lot doenst he…..
Anyway im suprised at the sudden 7 year jump ,so that really was flashforward.

Yeah. However, it's hard to consider Mavis being an angel-y frilly little girl.

The terrible, legendarily evil dark mage Zereff is a bland emo bishounen.
I think that at this point anything is possible.
After taking a look, I'm about 60% sure that girl is Mavis, but it could also be Grandine assuming human form. Those wings in her hair don't look like a hair accessory, they look like they're part of her head, and Grandine's wings look very similar to that.
Character development took a real hit today, with Natsu learning absolutely nothing. It also seems pretty obvious that no one died, altough I think it would be pretty funny (and a pretty shitty piece of writing) if everyone did actually get blasted off the face of the earth. 7 years is too long though.

Wasn't Dragonball to DBZ's Timeskip about 7 years? Sounds about right, since I think Gohan was 6 when he fought Radish.
On a related note, how pissed would the anime and new Funimation dub cast be if the entire cast got changed a few arcs in? Good thing they'll all likely to come back. I'm not sure if they will be aged though…how old are they now? Wouldn't the youngest members be over 25 years old at this point? It just seems weird to make the cast that old for no good reason. I'm assuming the cast will be frozen in time, which sadly will give them all something in common with Captain America.
I was like "Pfff, again that friendship stuff that's badly done in FT, now they'll all survive", but then "WHAT?! 7 YEAR TIMESKIP?!"
I just don't know if this is supposed to be good or terrible. It's like a try to reboot everything since nothing was learned, nothing actually happened in 253 chapters. Though I said that I'm not caring to take seriously this series, it's just ridiculous to let it pass by.
And now Gerard will have a Sieg Hart look, mark my words.

On the one hand, it would be nice for someone like Wendy to grow up and be a bit more usefull.
On the other, them all being absent for 7 years without anyone knowing that they're alive…..

Sigh….......
The man speaks truth.
…...
WHAT?!
Seriously WTF? That was just...I can't even comprehend what just happened. The coming back to save Marakov, I wasn't surprised at. The banding together against the dragon. That too.
But a time skip? My mind went a total blank tthere. Bravo Mishima you actually caught me off guard.

Well it does legitimise that random flashforward from a couple of chapters ago…..but that still doesn't mean it was well implemented.

Yeah that does sound right. It's just that DB already had a few time-skips, and continued to have them so it wasn't really that big a deal, it was just a natural part of the story. FT on the other hand has just pulled one out of the blue, don't get me wrong it could work, it just seems that with Mashima's "view" on women it could be an excuse to make all their boobs bigger, I really doubt it though. I hope it actually serves a purpose insted of there being a time-skip just for the sake of it.
I'll just pretend that everyone died and call it the end.
What a turd of a manga.
7 years is probably the necessary time that all bullshit takes to decompose.
:lmao
So Mashima didn't kill Makarov, huh? And they probably won't even grow up, either.
Yeah, I agree. The Oda-rip off-ers are annoying. I think I commented about it a few pages back-
I understand you both and your points very well, but look at that Gildarts character! He really looks like Shanks!
Didn´t expect the latest happenings btw but I sure hope they´re kind of … away for the next 100 chapters.
But they won´t be.
Mashima always wanted to make the entire manga a dream erza had so it looks like he finally got his way and got rid of the entire cast.
7 year time skip though….......ehhhh It could be good
What the fuck did I just read?
I don't get why there's so much negativity in this thread - personally, I liked this chapter. If the main cast had ran away and left their master to die, it would break one of the main messages of the series, the importance of friendship and camraderie. Natsu was the only character who had been given Gildarts' message, and I doubt that Gildarts himself would be comfortable with running away in this situation. Besides, where could they have ran to? They're on an island far away from any other form of land, and any boats that would have tried to leave could have easily been destroyed.
I'm not sure why you wanted all of the main and major supporting cast members to be killed off; that's like saying "oh man, I really hope that Kuma's Ursus Shock killed the Straw Hats!" It's an unrealistic expectation, given the nature of the series, and it would render the past chapters completely pointless if the main cast was spontaneously killed off by a single enemy.
And it may be somewhat contrived, but the time-skip at least had build up, both in conception (the boy who stared at the sea - just a couple weeks ago, you were complaining that it was irrelevant, now you're complaining that it's relevant) and duration (the date on the newspaper in that panel was seven years after the current story, plus the sheer number of times that the number 7 occurs in the story, particularly when it comes to dates, should have been a hint).
As well, this chapter meant that the main characters unambiguously lost - no Deus Ex Machina to let them pull out a victory, no friendship speeches to convert the dragon to the side of good, none of that. They probably survived, but if you didn't expect that, you're reading the wrong series.
All in all, I thought this chapter was good.
Mashima always wanted to make the entire manga a dream erza had so it looks like he finally got his way and got rid of the entire cast.

I still am amazed he never considered that "Oh, then I won't have a manga to publish" aspect the INSTANT that idea came into his mind. So soon that he wouldn't even have to feel the need to tell us about it.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I can't add anything else to this!
Wait what.
What just happened. Okay….Mashima...you've managed to surprise me there, I was groaning at them all coming back and banding together, but then that ending you throw us....well shit. Caught me off guard there.
Good chapter, the writing may be terrible, but the concepts Mashima has are interesting.
I wish he could be a director and hire a screenwriter to write up his stuff.
Fuck good writing, 7 years timeskip of fucking nowhere.
This was another terrible chapter until the last two pages where it just became hilarious
Fairy Tail will be the new Naruto in terms of mentioning why they hate timeskips everytime a good series does one.
I expect them all to be like this upon their return:
