I think it's time so lets get it all out here. The topic that's completely dominated past chap and spoiler threads for weeks and will continue for these next two weeks finally gets a poll because apforum polls decide what happen in the One Piece story.

Theories and debates commence.

I am really on the fence about this.

On one hand Sabo's supposed death was rather vague, but on the other hand it makes it feel like this flashback was relevant to the part of the story where Luffy had it. I honestly have no clue.

Sabo is dead, alright. I mean, he was only ten, all alone and got shot. Even if he had survived that, there are sea kings around the island. I mean, Shanks lost his arm. If he didn't die from getting shot, he was eaten. Not to mensio that Ace only got to left Goa 7 years later. If Sabo was indeed alive, he should be able to contact them both. Sure, Dragon took a kinda liking on him, but he left Goa with Ivankov and Kuma some days before the incident, right? So, I say Sabo is dead alright. And also, I guess that's way Ace has gotten violent and started beating the crap outta people around the town, almost killing them. Later, Luffy may be the one who says they should leave on, and stops beign a crybabe.

Sabo is alive he's on Shabondy right now he's going to join the SHP. Until I see his dead rotting corpse he isn't dead.

He's also a named character, who hadn't realized his dream, and proven to be tougher then a good percentage of the adults on the island. We also have no way of knowing if the Lord of the Coast, the sea king that attacked Shanks, was anywhere near the area where Sabo was blown up since Windmill village seems to be its hangout and that's on the other side of the island.

As to why he never contacted Luffy/Ace, there's a lot of possibilities that have been thrown around and I trust Oda to have a good reason for when/if Sabo shows back up.

Honestly though, this death is far too ambiguous, even with that one bandit witnessing it, to be certain especially given Oda's track record.

I'd like to believe he's dead, but this is anime and there is always a chance if we don't see a dead body, or if they don't get vaporized on the spot, so if he is alive, I reckon he's a revo now.

I think dead but I wouldn't be suprised if he shows up alive I mean they didn't show him dead which always (as shown with pell) means there's a way he could survive and if so I think he's dragon's # 1 man even stronger than Iva and Kuma (who are on par with each other now i guess)

IMHO, I was on that SaboIsDead boat after the chapter came out.. but now, I think he might just be alive. Unless something else big happens in this flashback, what would be the justification for it? Just showing how MORE this sucks for Luffy? Why? It doesn't sound like Oda and it hardly justifies doing this long of a flashback. I think he's alive and this was shown to move us into the next arc/an upcoming arc with the revolutionaries.

Did you read the manga? Pell survived a bomb able to destroy a whole city in his face. With no major injuries… And Sabo is stronger than adults... I mean... o_O In my humble opinion saying "there's almost no way he would survive that" is ridiculous, there are in fact many ways for him to survive that. He could just take it, like Pell.

I can't trust the guy is dead because he was technically "killed" off panel, the vaguest death of them all. I'm especially suspicious become in shonen when someone is blown up, they tend to be alive when the smoke clears up. I know it's gruesome, but I'd think of this was the end of Sabo's journey I'd think we'd at least see him personally in this last moments.

On top of all that, I feel there's too much potential in having Sabo live later. He's got an interesting relationship with the main character, a connection with the events that occurred to the most recent and game-changing arcs yet, and heck I'm curious as to what this guy would look like as an adult. I mean, isn't anyone naturally curious to see what a character looks like after a time skip? Sabo's the only one in this flashback who we haven't seen in current time, for good reason!

So yeah, Sabo is alive by way of "dying" in an explosion, and I freakin' want to see how this chimney sweep-looking kid turns out as a young adult. Soooo much, and I think the author would be aware of this.

There are many things that Oda could do to justify everything. Why he didn't died, why he didn't met luffy or ace after, why he didn't was or went to the war. And maybe, as people have said, he can help luffy from the shadows, or he could be another character (you know, he was a kid, and people change, clear example is coby).

Well, I can't vote because the same rule applies across the entire forum that applies to the character championship, but I would probably stick with being undecided and vote for the Schrodinger's Cat D/F (Love that twist on it, lol)

Because he didn't see how Sabo could have survived getting blown up? Not an unreasonable assumption but Sabo is not your ordinary kid.

yes Sabo isn't ordinary, but since when have the world nobles let a commoner escape alive after crossing their path… take shabondy for example.. not even pirates with bounties could escape them... sabo may not be your ordinary kid but he'd have to be pretty damn lucky to run away from this... (tho im not saying its not possible >.> So stop getting so worked up ppl honestly :getlost: im just stating what i see now)

I will point out though that the civilian man shot for getting in the way of a World Noble on Saboady was still alive since Zoro took him to the hospital. And the pirate captain who escaped was taken by the Marines so his fate is uncertain.

I will point out though that the civilian man shot for getting in the way of a World Noble on Saboady was still alive since Zoro took him to the hospital. And the pirate captain who escaped was taken by the Marines so his fate is uncertain.

the man only survived bc of Zoro… if he hadn't walked in like the idiot he is than the man would almost certainly have been killed. But because of Zoro's ignorance he probably forgot about the man because he was such a minor problem compared to Zoro's act. And the other captain may have escaped... but that's a captain who's sailed half of the grand line already... Sabo's just a kid even if he is unordinary... also think about this... if Sabo did manage to escape from the explosion would it really take him that long to get back to Mt. Colbo? i mean they did keep ace tied up overnight...and i rlly doubt he'd go back to his asshole of a father... where else would he go? I would think he'd go back to his brothers

Sabo decided to set sail and follow his dream, and as such I can't see him turning around and going back even after the boat got destroyed. Better to let everyone think him dead and continue onward then to go back and put his brothers in danger.

He was somewhere where he couldn't get to Marineford in the week between the announcement of Ace's execution and his actual death? Honestly it's something only Oda can answer, but given his track record on character deaths and the story possibilities of Sabo being alive I think we'll see him again at some point.

id say thats pretty much what i think happened as well, either that or he jumped into the water at the last minute, but with all the rubble and what not they just probably assumed he was dead.

Waiting for next chapter but I say he is dead… To many things are against it... And without help I can't see a 10 years old boy survive that with jumping in Soru speed iin the water and being able to swim against the currents
