SnK will definitely surpass Bleach this year (2012 was a close one), maybe even Toriko, Magi and Fairy Tail but Naruto and KnB will be hard if they sell like last year.

I think you have it backwards.
Bleach still outsells Toriko per individual volumes, the reason Toriko does better in annual series sales is due to no one giving a shit about back-issues of Bleach as much as Toriko. (Newer series tend to have advantage there)
Also, Shingeki no Kyojin has already hit 1 million per issue in each of the first several volumes, and consistently keeping up, SnK is already WAY higher than Toriko and Magi, easily matching Bleach.
This is before considering the anime boost, so yeah.
BTW, Assassination Classroom volume 1 just reached 1 million as well, so that's more of a contender than those above, lol.Magi and Toriko don't even belong when talking about big hitters. Unfortunately.
Silver Spoon is the big upcoming titan out of Sunday. -

Silver Spoon is the big upcoming titan out of Sunday.I was not referring to the sale per volume though but the overall sales in 2012 when SnK was inferior to Bleach, Toriko only by a bit. If i remember correctly, SnK had approx 2.6 mil while Bleach 2.9, Toriko 3.0 and Magi 3.5.

Series sales means nothing. You're comparing weekly with monthly, which do not produce the equal amount of material at the any given time.
Honestly, series sales are completely irrelevant number. -
I mean its nice to see a quality series like this get popular but I'm noticing its not really the type of fans that you'd want to see get into it. Is that weird?
It just strikes me as odd that so many people are sort of woobifying everything about this series now that the anime has come out. IDK maybe its the propensity of prepubescent looking characters in this series or maybe its just what's done nowadays but I hardly think its totally cool to just ignore everything about the story and go "hey these characters are so cute"
-
eh, that's hardly the representation of majority of the viewers.
you need to get out of those tumblers and pixivs before your brain melt. -
This is really weird.. because even teenagers here like it, I am sure as hell that they don't like these kind of things.
-
Yeah looks like my prediction that this series will be go insanely popular after the anime, did come true.
Most of the people from my country are even reading the manga just because of the hype brought upon by the anime. I'm so proud of them, now they can see other Shonen titles that are not vanilla like Naruto, Fairy Tail or Bleach.

You mean they don't like that kind of fanart or a series like this?
-
I see that Shingeki's pretty high, but it doesn't look anywhere close to the number one spot, but… how the hell is this chart organized? Are the weekly tallies different from the total for older volumes? Yet some are the same as the total. o.O
And I thought OP was pretty popular, but it's at 68th place? wut
Edit: nevermind, I think I answered myself
Yeah it's the billboard charts of manga. Every half a year they make special lists with the totals. Here are the last two:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-12-02/30-top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-series/2012In about two weeks we'll get the total sales for the timeperiod of mid November last year to mid May this year. I think it'll be on second place.

@Devil:

I meant the series, they always like stuff like One Piece, Naruto and Durarara, and their favorite characters ARE (almost) ALWAYS Zoro, Shizou/Izaya and Sasuke… none of those are nowhere as dark as SnK, and none of them have a cool character like te ones I mentioned. so yeah, thats why its weird.
-
Awesome.
!
-
Indeed. Looks like the Japanese high schoolers got tired of the DBZ poses and moved on to Kyojin; I approve…

As a teenager I must say I love this series, but yeah, I won't deny that's the general taste at my age

I don't know why I haven't gotten around to this series yet. I want to start it tonight. Where should I begin? Anime or Manga? Thanks!
Manga. Always always start with the manga. Never start a huge series like this with the anime. Why? Because the anime is an adaptation of the manga, so of course there are inevitably going to be creative differences from the manga (like Daz's complaint earlier). If you want to experience the full breadth of the series, start with chapter 1 of the manga. I know its more of a chore (reading through all the pages/chapters instead of simply watching a few half-hour episodes, but if you really want to invest yourself in this series as much as you say you do, then there's no excuse to be lazy. You can always start the anime after you finish catching up on the manga.) Trust me, it's awesome.

No one here reads SnK manga so they don't even know him yet, but you made a good point. :P

dropped the manga a few month ago. too depressing.

I hope you're joking. This manga's not even close to as depressing as other manga.
-
Its not that depressing
I think the losses, betrayals, and general conspiracy arc contribute to that idea but its just the usual crapsack world. Its not extraordinarily bleak yet -
Sometimes when seeing a character die I want to feel sad for them but then this happens and I'm barely able to suppress my laughter.
-
This fanbase is awsome.

I read a few seinen mangas but I am not really into it. I am a shounen guy. The constant deaths, the evil conspiracy and finally the whole world in Shinegiki No Kyojin. I can't enjoy it.
-
You do realize this IS a shounen manga.
Although it does feel more akin to stuff running in Young Jump lol

It is? well, seems like I am the problem here not the manga.
To be honest I realize the potential, but I can't seem to like it. Sorry:sad:

As in ?
In the original Japanese text, the ape titan sounds so laid back, so casual, like some dude on a street or some young fella posting on a forum
I think the translation was so stiff and literal, it didn't really convey the comical so-inappropriate-for-situation casualness of the titan's speech. Also not translating "Ah" "uwaa" contributes to it.
I'd have translated it as "Oops" "Eeewww"It's like it's translated by someone who can decipher the meaning of the Japanese text, but not familiar with it enough to realize the style of speeches. Or the opposite, not familiar with the English language to appropriately localize.
-
Well shit, the context of the speech really would have really warped that scene then. Like a Tarantino juxtaposition sorta thing.

Well, whether it's published in a Shonen or Seinen magazine, it's still just a matter of you not enjoying that kind of story (which I totally understand, and I don't think there's anything wrong with you feeling that way)
In any case, Aohige did acknowledge that Titan feels more like something that should be published in Young Jump (a seinen magazine) and I believe he stated at one point that the only reason Titan gets away with being a "shonen" manga is because it's published in a much less popular and less mainstream magazine. This would almost certainly never fly in WSJ.

Thanks! I did start the manga and I'm really enjoying it. I've been out of the loop with new series for a while so it's great to find something new to read.

oricon figures out for this past week, and Shingeki continues to dominate the chart…
out of the top 20 best seller, 10 of them are Shingeki no Kyojin 1 ~ 10.
First volume surpassed 1.3 million.First six have now surpassed the million mark, only a matter of time before all ten does.

Whats up with that pic :D

Volume 1 just got delivered, looks nice and well translated so far, as far as I can tell anyway.
Good to see the series doing well in the charts and whatnot too. Can't believe I wasn't too fond of this when I first read it, and for the art of all things(which I now love, but can understand why other people might be put off by it).
Might start watching the anime now. Is it a good adaption? The opening music is catchy as fuck so that's a good sign.
-
Never this looked so extreme.:ninja: -

BTW, the one-shot of Shingeki no Kyojin submitted for Magazine GrandPrix contest before the serialization got a 2 out of 10 on art.

So far it's the uncontested Anime Of the Year entree.

Ahahahahaha.Haha! Oh jeez. Lucky the story is as good as it is, otherwise, who knows. Actually, who gave it that score, the readers or editors? I'm assuming the readers.

Sweet, looks like I'll actually be following a weekly(?) anime for the first time in a year or something.
-
Nah the score was given by the editors. We readers never got to read it.
They are including the one-shot in the DVD release of the anime, so we'll finally get tofind out how badly it was drawnread it. -
