The blond chick from the trainees who joined the military police
The one who talked with Armin and Connie about what they'd do if they were told to die
Oh ok her, but if it is her than why would she be killing off the rest of the scouting legion?

ITS A MYSTERY
There's obviously something extremely fishy with the royal government and the theme of humans being their own greatest enemies seems prevalent in this manga, Annie herself seems a bit suspicious
She was left alone by the instructor during the training flashback, the hinted backstory with her father parallels Eren's, she apologized to her dead comrades after the blockading of the hole, and finally there's this weird scene with the unamed dark haired guy (possibly a mole) turning around to look at her leaving when Armin and the rest enlisted in the scouting legion
The female titan also apparently knows Armin's name
My guess is she's somehow working for the faction of humans who do not want the truth about titans to get out in the open which would happen if the scouting legion reached the basement in Shiganshina thanks to Eren's power

You bring up a bunch of good points…never once did I think of that.
However I did find it strange as you said that she apologised to her dead comrades, I thought that it might of been due to the fact that she hid herself away but the flashback proves that she's a capable fighter like Mikahsa and Ravellie. Hopefully the author will flashback to a moment that she used her power (if it is her) and showing her kill both titans and her fellow class mates. Kinda like how when Armen witnessed Eren getting devoured than suddenly a titan rose from the mouth of the titan that just devoured eren
I'm not good with most character names, who was she again?
Same here, I find it easier to remember japanese names than western 1s.
At this point with all the fleshing out of side characters that happend if you can't remember who's who you're not paying attention
The only one I don't know the name of is the giant bitch with the freckles that always hangs with Christa
Decided to catch up, finaly.
http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/16/11 Okay, this realy caught my atention. Ymir was the giant from whose body the world was made, in Scandinavian mythology, so maybe it's a reference to that ?

Odd, Eren doesn't even know what religion is ?

That actually makes sense since the world is "new" once again. Hell they call a forest "forest of big trees" which they probably know what a tree is but probably couldn't tell ya what kind of a tree it is just the simple fact that it's a tree.

To be honest the name seems to fit as the size and number of those ginormour trees is prety freakish.
At least I never saw a try with a diameter that big.

come to california and go to the forest of the red woods and you'll see trees about that big, not joking
The female titan also apparently knows Armin's name.
I'm not so sure of that. Her inaction against Armin is suspicious, and I'm not discounting the possibility of her being Annie or someone else we know, but I don't see any real evidence that she knows Armin's face or name. When she first appeared, Armin thought she was a deviant because she was ignoring humans, and it wasn't until she was attacked that she started killing them; her checking Armin's hood and then letting him live doesn't really equate to her knowing him, as odd as it is. As for her "recognizing his name", I'm not sure where/why you thought that, because the few times his name is brought up they are being yelled by Jean, with little to no reaction from her. When she "freezes up", it's because Armin is pretending she killed Eren. At least, that's how I read it. To be honest, that scene had me a little confused at first… mainly because he never clarifies to Jean that he was tricking her, and Jean thinks he's gone crazy. Did I totally miss the point of that scene?
Also, and this might be a translation issue, Armin claims she was responsible for bringing the titans on the day the armored and colossal titans attacked Wall Maria. I initially assumed it was a mistake, and that he was supposed to be referring to her bringing the group of titans they are currently dealing with, simply comparing her to the armored and colossal class, but… well as you can see it says she was responsible. I mean, Armin is already jumping to conclusions by claiming with certainty that she's a human wearing a titans body rather than just a strange or unknown titan, so I figure him "knowing" she was responsible for the Wall Maria titans isn't complete unreasonable.
I'm not sure if the female Titan is someone we saw, my first thought was that the female titan is Erens mom.
Thanks for this thread OP, so I could discover this manga. I'm liking it so far, but the translation gets really crappy at the start of volume 4 on mangareader (this inverse guy doesn't know english for shit), does anybody know a site that has better scanlations, or a site where I can download them?

I'm talking about this scene here
http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/21/4
I interpreted the "Armin!" in the first panel as being uttered by the female titan
Of course you could say it was simply Armin hearing Reiner call his name while he remembers the female titan looming over him, but that'd make the scene pretty pointless
Also notice how when Armin yells at the female titan that she killed Eren to confuse/distract her… He actually never says Eren's name directly
He uses roundabout ways to mention him, like "my best friend" and "that guy who's in a hurry to die", which is the way Jean mockingly describes Eren, things that only someone who knows the trainees personally would pay attention to
Finally, she ruthlessly slaughters the unamed scouting legion clods who tried to kill her, even when they're no threat to her anymore, like the guy she spun like a yoyo, yet she let Armin Jean and Reiner go even after they attacked her
My biggest issue with this manga is the names and the appearances. Just can't tell them apart. Other than that, things are getting interesting.

The designs are unique enough. It's just that there are a lot of different characters who aren't on-screen all the time.
The female Titan is most likely Annie.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I am pretty certain that was Reyner/Reiner calling Armin back to reality. Armin was just lost in thought over the titan, which… looking over my previous post, I should clarify that I do not disagree with your overall point about the female titan; that is, I think she is someone we know. But yeah, I figure Armin's shock over her reaction to his bait is what he was lost in thought about.

I completely agree. My initial reaction to that scene was that Armin was probing to see how she'd react, given he had already concluded she was looking for Eren. I came across much more disagreeable in my last post than I intended to; I merely wanted to point out that it wasn't concrete that she knew his name. Now that I think about it though, that was pretty stupid of me to say. I got so caught up in wondering where you concluded she knew his name and completely overlooked the fact that she (apparently) knew who his best friend was. Duhh, can't really have one without the other.
Finally, she ruthlessly slaughters the unamed scouting legion clods who tried to kill her, even when they're no threat to her anymore, like the guy she spun like a yoyo, yet she let Armin, Jean, and Reiner go even after they attacked her.
Anyway, back to Annie. This female titan knows how to fight, but were it Annie I think we might have seen something more signature by now to give a clue, much like we did the first time Eren transformed. I'd understand a more subtle route though. As for the Wall Maria thing I mentioned earlier, I was trying to think outside of just the training squad– after all, Eren was picking fights when he was younger, and was Armin's best friend then as well. Still, more than likely you are correct, and this directly implies that she was involved with their training squad somehow, but a few things have (or had) me a little confused about what had happened and when. The translation issue that I mentioned, for example.
Annie likes to kick things.
http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/21/30
I was thinking something a little more obvious, like Erin's little move here, for example. Eren's situation was much more obvious on all accounts though, so that's not saying much. I'm not saying it can't be Annie– if it is anyone in the troop she is the most suspicious; Aldrich made the case well-- I was just initially skeptical.
Annie's signature move is her leg sweep. The author even focused on her using it on Eren and Jean during the training flashback in volume 4. She even taught that move to Eren.

The problem is as I said, this recollection is pretty pointless if Armin doesn't remember something very specific
We already know this scene happend, we saw the female titan tower above a knocked down, scared Armin after she slapped his horse away the chapter before this one
It serves no purpose in the narrative to just show Armin lost in thoughts over this scene, it'd just be useless padding and somehow Isayama doesn't strike me as the kind of hack who'd copypaste things just to get the proper amount of pages, I think he has a better grasp on his story than that
To me it makes more sense that Armin heard the female titan say his name, which is actually what prompted that outburst of his, something like "wait, she knows me? Let's confirm it by talking about the guy she's after using terminology only us trainees would know about"

Yeah but in the first scene (chapter 23), we can't see the expression paited on the female titan's face (a painful expression), me think the second scene only purpose is to highlight this expression.
He might have recognized her facial features somehow but I like the name theory better
Problem is we know Reyner was yelling at Armin to get his attention, and Armin wasn't hearing him. "ARMIN! ARMIN!! Armin, can you hear me!?" I mean, look at the size of the text bubble… it's clearly someone yelling, not a whisper from a titan that reached Armin's ears only. I dunno, I'd think seeing that pained face on a titan and then confirming that she know__s them is reason enough to be in shock. I'd say you are half-right; seeing her expression is what gave him his suspicions, with her pained face looking at him like she knows him, and is why he used terminology only them trainees would know about. Without that look his sudden and seemingly random decision to start yelling about Eren that way makes no sense, just like your theory suggests it was his name that made him do it.
Anyway, I think we've said enough on this topic.
Well the whole point of Reiner calling his name was to make it more ambiguous
In any case it doesn't change much to the end result, which is that the female titan knows Armin pretty well
And Annie definitely is the best candidate, which makes me wonder if she's going to die in the upcoming fight against Eren and co
Watch it be someone entirely different, talking about the female titan of course.
At this rate of casualties I wonder how long the series can last. Then again I suppose it can't be very short considering the hero's dream is the extermination of the giants.
I think the author said he planned the manga to last 20 volumes
Not sure of the validity of it though, and there's always a risk it gets artificially lenghtened due to its success, which is the thing I'm the most worried about
Where did you guys read this manga? The translaion got atrotious at the start of volume 4 on mangafox. Do any of you know of sites with better scans?

Also, there's another group doing it ?

Only the first chapter of vol 4 is really bad, the rest is more than readable
Of course it's also one of the most dramatic chapters in the manga so it's pretty aggravating that they butchered it so much but what can you do

That sounds like a good length for a series.
In it's first week, the 5th volume of Shingeki no Kyojin sold 400 289 copies - when the 51th volume of Bleach sold 400 346 copies. This is the first time it does so well from the start - volumes 3 and 4 sales have risen steadily. This is really good.
Selling less than complete unredeemable garbage like Bleach isn't good news
It's regretable that something by Noriaki-kun sells at all, but I doubt japanese stores can hand out booklets "Numerous Reasons Why Bleach Sucks". Aside from that, in an industry where most authors can only hope their books sell something like 30 000 - 50 000, and only few make over the half a fucking million barrier, Isayama who is merely on his fifth book, does good.

I would fund such a project.
In fact, I'm starting up a donation drive right now ! :ninja:
The other day I found a bunch of short animations for this series on youtube accidently and now I can't remember how the hell I even managed to find them.
Oh geez. This is hilarious.
A radio show host's question to Shingeki no Kyojin author Hajime Isayama pissed off GANTZ artist Oku
Host: In recent chapters of GANTZ they're fighting giants. How do you feel about that?
Isayama: It's not like I have copyrights to giants or anything. We get to see more different types of giants by other authors writing about them, and giants being more common in manga is great!
Oku was greatly offended by this, thinking the radio show host was insinuating that Oku stole the idea.
He started criticizing not only the radio show host, but showed hostility towards Shingeki no Kyojin artist, even though he did absolutely nothing wrong.
Sorry Oku, Shingeki > GANTZ. And Isayama > You.
But in Oku's defense, the radio show host is the most guilty one out of three, I think. I can understand him being offended.

Nakata (host of Oriental Radio): What I'm wondering is… you know in GANTZ they're fighting giants right now?
I mean, aliens that look like giants (laugh). How do you feel about that?
It just bugged me, I mean I like both series and all, but was wondering how you felt about that.
Isayama: Well Giants aren't my inventions or anything... they are an established concept.
But it would be cool to see how everyone draw giants as monsters.
I feel they're just as attractive subjects as zombies and vampires.
Isayama: The giants I draw feels like they're imagined by an immature child, because that's all I can draw.
So I'd like to see take on giants by other smarter people. I'd like to have the opportunity to read stuff like that.
Nakata: So you're saying you'd like to see the idea of giants expanded more, and see others drawing them?
I see (laughs). Well sorry for asking, it's just that if I was the author I'd go "huh...?" at this whole thing (laughs)
Uh, yeah, clearly Nakata is insinuating Oku stole the idea.
Isayama's response was mature though, he shouldn't be blamed for any of this..
Interesting thought, so the reason why most giants look like that is to make them intentionaly more cartoony ?
That's stupid. I mean really stupid. Giants are public domain. He might as well insinuated that Isayama stole the giant idea from Oda for all the sense that it made.
@Thousand:
That's stupid. I mean really stupid. Giants are public domain.
That's kind of like saying "magic is public domain" though. :P
So Oku tweeted how he was offended by it, and one of his followers tweeted that he hates both Nakata and Shingeki.
Oku tweeted back to that saying he does too.
Then Nakata apologized to him on tweet, saying he didn't mean to insinuate it, that Oku took it wrong. (What a load of bullshit)
Oku said it was clearly intended to be insinuating that Oku stole the idea from Isayama, and have Isayama respond in modest way to make him look better.
First part, I agree Oku. But second part, keep Isayama out of this.

This is so relevant.

whatever you say tite kubo
I've figured out the titan mystery lol. Did too much fan-fiction in my mind until the truth came to light. The key word is titan vapor. It's the link to the weightless bodies, dream world/illusion that traps people in titan bodies, and how eren summons a titan out of nothing.
1. Basically, Eren's blood reacts with the air and forms titan vapor which in turn forms pseudo-flesh. The hint to the blood/air chemical reaction is the heat that is always present. The heat is created from the insane speed of the chemical reaction, bringing forth flesh from nothing.
2.The whole body of a titan is a huge dense mass of titan vapor, and titan vapor in huge quantities causes those dreams/illusions that trap people and allow the titan to absorb them. When eren finished closing the hole, they had trouble getting his legs out because he was being absorbed while he was in the dream.
3. The reason the world is almost void of humans now is because titan vapor probably gives immortality. It was probably supposed to be a cure for all disease and the like, but all good things can be misused and human nature brought about a world littered with failures (titans) who had been unable to escape the dream world and got absorbed.
4. Titans are not attracted to human concentrations, they are attracted to emotion. In fact, it's what's used to run them. The reason why Armin was left a live when the Titan swallowed Eren was because he was feeling absolutely nothing. He completely blanked out and was saved. And eren was able to summon a 15m class in one go because of his insane anger and the full power of a death wish.
5.Titans actually want to be human. They are abominations created by humans, immortal prisons, a fate worse than death. They eat people hoping to feel the despair of the people they eat, hoping to feel anything at all. the main problem is that once a titan absorbs its human battery, it can no longer progress. It can't get any bigger because it has no emotions of it's own. So they pointlessly try to eat other humans but to no avail.
P.S. I have a lot more of my own vague ideas but i just put a little bit out there lol.

If you can't see the genius don't feel bad lol. just ask a question and I'll see if I can explain my logic.
