Maybe we just witnessed the birth of an all new Luffy. Darker, or perhaps less bold, happy-go-lucky, the guy finally realized there is death out there, and that if he messes up, next body on the floor could be a strawhat…
I agreed on this. Luffy must protect his crewmates from ending up like his brother but if Luffy messes up, either one of them or all of them will die. I don't know about Brook, he already 'dead' but he can still feel pain or fatigue…..
I'm not sure if this was in a previous chapter or forum talk, or even maybe a dream, but I remember Garp saying at the execution platform that no matter the outcome of this war he will be quitting the Marines…I can't seem to find the chapter though...

My user name is "Fire Fist" Ace for a different reason, but I am touched by his death. In actuality, Ace is my 5th favorite, behind Rayleigh, Robin, Luffy, and Brook.
It's sad, and a little unbelieveable, but in the end, it's necessary. Like Kamina dying was necessary for Simon to grow up, this will be necessary for Luffy to grow and empower himself. Nothing changes a person like the death of a loved one.
Luffy will move on from this. He still has his allies and his crewmates to help him through. Hancock, Jimbei, Vivi, Garp, and all the Strawhats are still there for him. He has to keep moving forward.

Supernovas started heading over there a couple chapters back. Shabondy is only about 20 minutes away from Marineford, so right about now is when they should be showing up.
There's a better chance of Ivankov hijacking another Marine ship than the Supernovas arriving. I always thought the beginning of chapter 565 was ambiguous plus the fact that it would be a colossally stupid move on their part, strategy-wise.

Are you familiar with the term "montage"? Seriously, they invited him into the Shichibukai. I'd say he was pretty successful. Troubled? Of course. But he wasn't a fucking wimp.
i came to see if there were any spoilers and as soon as i opened the page i saw the chapter discussion was already up and beheld the title was "Death of Portgas D. Ace" and i was astonished. My only hope if ACE is 100% for sure dead is that it will not change Luffy's character too much. As some have speculated this could make Luffy stronger and that is fine by me but no matter how many times people predicted ace would die i always had my doubts until now. I never post anything ever on this site but i could not help myself after seeing this epic chapter.

Once again. this war wasn't about just Ace. It was about Marines vs. Pirates in a battle that would shape the entire future and which side would be the dominant force from then on. It was about honor, and the Marines playing dirty and underhanded, and challenging all the pirates of the world. Basically outright daring them to attack with whatever they got.

The one great thing about OP was that no matter how much the story changed, there was that little protagonist that could make you laugh, cry and truly feel, OP was the first manga/anime where I loved the protagonist more than his supporting cast/antagonists.
I don't care so much about Ace, but damn.. Luffy is guh… He really needs Zoro and his crew to lean on, I don't know if he'll ever be the same.

Nah. He'll be sad for a while, but it won't be permanent. ALL the other strawhats have suffered similar loss and sorrow. They got over it, got stronger as a result, and manage to live happily and in the now.

This chapter surprised the heck out of me! I was so sure that once they had the handcuffs off Ace it would be another smooth sailing rescue the "princess" arc but no. Oda always finds a way to amaze me and keep me reading. Chapters like this are why I love this series as much as I do. Like many others, I hope that Ace is actually dead, as him coming back to life would seem like a wasted opportunity to develop Luffy.

Ahhhh thank you… But I doubt we will see someone eating the fire fruit and WBs fruit and appear in the story once again with similar powers.
And I think the fruits will regrow somewhere on the earth but not on the place where the users die

I thought he was saving the Supernova for the New World. Showing those guys means that, first and foremost, they weren't captured by the Kumabots and allowed for an outsider perspective from the Captains. It also gives them something to chew on when/if they meet up with Luffy in the New World. Remember, this is Oda, king of introducing characters and sticking them into the background until he's good and ready.
Also, if this war wasn't only about Ace but about Marines v. Pirates, then why did the other two Emperors not team up with WB and crush those pesky Marines once and for all? If it really was going to be about who would hold sway over the world, Marines or Pirates, don't you think it'd make sense for all the Emperors to band together and fight under one banner? No. This was strictly a quarrel between Whitebeard and the World Government. Doflamingo's speech highlighted a secondary effect that this war would have, but it was primarily a battle between Whitebeard Pirates (and affiliates) against the Marine HQ and Royal Shichibukai over Fire Fist Ace. The soul of piracy wasn't at stake here; this is far too small a stage for that.
