So yeah, it looks like it's going to be Kenpachi vs Byakuya in the manga….and the anime just had it. The timing seems a bit odd.

That's what I was thinking…
Oh jeez, even the same pages. There's no way that's a coincidence. Yet tell that to any hardcore Bleacher and I'm sure they'll say "NO HES ORIGINAL".
Oda was far from the first person to use a situation like that, you know.
Yeah, it's probably just because I'm a one piece fan that my mind instantly thought of whisky peak. In fairness, it has been a long timesince then.
One other thing, the anime just showed Unohana, Kyoraku & Ukitake's zanpakuto sealing off Yamamoto. I've been enjoying the sword arc thus far, but it seems a bit odd that three zanpakuto (albeit three of the strongest) could seal off Yamamoto and Ryujin Jakka. Yeah, I know, I know, only filler…
I wonder how that guy from NF is going to explain Kubo "teaching" Oda about that final page? (rescue arcs !!!)
Pretty much the same thing:
"You're in my way" x2 = Double beat down in one panel!
But It was pretty cool and he chose the right pair to do it. Yammy needs to go, and the final page did look bad ass. This is the kinda stuff that makes Bleach fun to read
I'm kinda torn between wanting to see them fight and wanting to see the story progress.
Which is good.
Well…Unohana was fun about this chapter. That's...about it I guess. Oh, and I agree with Satsuki: Kubo can still have fun character interactions and can create a better manga than this...he just doesn't want to (due to fan love of the stupid Bleach we have now) or can't (because of Shueisha's bottom line).
(still hoping Yammi is alive somehow if only to allow for Isane to do something other than heal)
Certainly a lot better then bribing shinigami to fight, anyway.
Funny scenes I liked in the Bleach 245 anime. xD

Ah, I may as well be on the first page. This weeks chapter was decent I guess. Seems that for the past two weeks we've been caught in a rut of Unohana praising Ichigo for being the only one able to defeat Aizen, complemented with Kenpachi and Byakuya laying the hurt on Yammysaurus.
Seriously, I think this week's and last week's chapter are exactly the same thing, just done differently. Aside from that awesome double KO Oda rip off double page spread at the end.
Oh jeez, even the same pages. There's no way that's a coincidence. Yet tell that to any hardcore Bleacher and I'm sure they'll say "NO HES ORIGINAL".
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, you guys shouldn't act like this because Bleach is a terrible manga, the event on its own is symbolically positive. The specific chapter was good as a stand-still because nothing happened essentially. As a stand-still it did forshadow a possible Kenpachi Byakuya fight though. I think Kubo was honoring Oda personally.
The story is still terrible though, Ichigo has no place beating Aizen, it should be Uruhara or Ishin.
Nah, last week's wins by default for having Mayuri.
I got a little Whiskey Peak flashback while reading this though.
Bleach's powers are still all over the place, but the chapter wasn't particulary bad I guess. I mean, it looked cool.
I'm not willing to really go back and check, but if Kubo has consistently been doing the whole, "Ichigo's reiatsu matches his jacket" thing, I'd give him a little praise for it. Even if his chapters always lack in terms of story or stuff actually happening, he's pretty good at giving subtle hints at what's going on beneath the surface. The deteriorating jacket and thickening lines of his hollow mask are obvious enough, but I'll have to be certain to slow down and pay close attention next time I re-read the manga.
Not a bad chapter, I suppose. Honestly, Yammy has been as disappointing as the rest of the Espada. He's being tossed around like a rag doll. So much for being the strongest Espada.
Potential Byakuya versus Zaraki intrigues me. Honestly, this is no place for this fight to occur. There's a small-scale war going on, and the supposed strongest Espada is right in front of them. I don't know Kubo would build Yammy up as such a beast, and then have him overshadowed entirely by a grudge match like this. Either it's full-on fanservice, because the manga is coming to a close, or Soul Society and the captains won't be heavily involved in the Hell arc.
Do we know what Kubo contributed to the current filler? I assumed it was just the plot concept and the character designs, but he must have provided an outline or something. The timing for these two skirmishes are one heck of a coincidence.
I like how Unohana still scares the hell out of everyone. Only thing that was entertaining.
So… does Byakuya actually say the line along with Kenpachi or is it just him?
I'm leaning towards the latter don't think that guy's ever said anything above monotone so it'd be really odd to me.
I've never really gotten the whole, "Oh God! Captain Mom is scaaaaary!" bit of comedy. It just never seemed all that funny to me. I don't even think I realized it was a joke until I started reading comments online.

I actually think he said it, since on 17 they definitely both say "you're in my way".
I reckon he'd just mumble "get lost" though, I agree he'd never shout.
Also, I just noticed that Kenpachi is still wearing his eyepatch.
So much for vaste lords being three times stronger then captains.
Also, I just noticed that Kenpachi is still wearing his eyepatch.

He's also been fighting with only one arm.
Good catch. So he's not even using yamamoto's kendo against the strongest of Aizen's hand picked vaste lords.
Cheapens their build up for me.
Maybe this is more of a "Kenpachi is awesome like that" thing, than a "this guy is weaker than advertised" thing? Not to mention, it seems like a flat out raw strength meelee fight, against a VERY BIG HARD TO MISS target, which is pretty much Kenpachi's specialty. If Yammi was a small fast guy, that would probably give him a little more trouble. But like this? He can't help but swing his sword and cut something off.
One of these days, before the series is out, we need to see him ditch the bells, eyepatch, fight double handed, and use bankai with him then revealing "Yeah, I figured out that bankai crap a hundred years ago. Its boring so I don't use it, but if I've REALLY only got five seconds to do this before the end of the world…"
Granted nothing short of the ultimate final villain could conceivably withstand that, but much like Rock Lee opening all 8 gates while drunk, its a combination thats basically been promised that we need to see the full potential of eventually, otherwise its a bit of a letdown at the end.
sigh… dammit Robby...
I wanna see that shit now

I'd like that, but I kind of get the feeling we're coming to the end of Bleach now.
Unless Aizen's going to run away again.

Smiley and Blinkey haven't been beaten yet, so its not even close to time to beat Aizen yet. (Unless one of them is the real, real for realz surprise final boss)
Jump will insist the series run through its 10th anniversary so they can hype the crap out of it. So its got to last at least through 2011, I just can't imagine them letting it end short of that magic marketing number.
A hell arc (being a complete retread of the last two arcs) is still totally conceivable and even semi-promised from the brief hints and glimpses we've been shown along the way.
Or Aizen being a multi form Frieza-level bastard who takes everyone down one by one… but even Frieza "only" lasted for like 30 chapters.
Both outcomes seem likely.
I mean, Ichigo HAS to see the secret technique that then makes Aizen impossible to beat, its not Shonen otherwise.
And they still have the opportunity to fight God. For the lulz.
Ah yes, the Spirit King with his team of super powerful warriors who don't care about what goes on in the world at large.
I do wonder about Blinkey though. I mean, he's already used his Bankai in a fight against someone who had already been through a gruelling fight and been soundly thrashed.
I assume he's found some super-technique since.
Aizen will escape through the door with the key after he makes it. Going to hell is probably a way to get another key to follow him. Just guessing.
the hell arc should play out like a DOOM game…no not first person shooter or in this case first person sword fighting. Have them go to doors trying to open them and having the door say " you must have the blue key card to pass through".
Oh man, Darkstorm you failed in spelling the correct thread title. change it "Bleh Discussion Part 3", will ya!?

i could imagine a filler fight between those two being better than anything Kubo creates, so please inform me if it is indeed better as i dropped the anime long ago.
The Bleach anime is one of those wierd exceptions where the filler is generally just as good as, and sometimes BETTER, than the actual manga it comes from.
Strange how that works.
^
There's a thirst for more story in Bleach, given how minimalist it is. Putting additional stories through fillers doesn't hurt this series. Also, this series is a solid battle manga. Most of the chapters show nothing but fights. So its pretty easy to come up of an idea for a filler arc since basically all you need is a story which leads to monstrous number of fights. This doesn't kill the mood in Bleach. This won't work with any other series though.
the hell arc should play out like a DOOM game…
"No! I must kill the hollows" Ichigo shouted.
Urahara said "No, Ichigo. You are the hollows"
And then Ichigo was a zombie.
…something like that?
It was a pretty risky decision to go into a huge filler arc right in the middle of a story arc, but I think it's paid off for them, the zanpaktuo arc has been good and actually got me watching Bleach again.

Inu yasha .
im jus as shocked as she is…i mean did i miss sumthing major..how did Ichigo get that strong?
@Thousand:
Inu yasha .
Though in IY's case, both filler and continuty sucked anyway.
I just wonder what the heck Kubo's excuse is for a week off…unless it's in prep for his next TBTP-style arc, which actually may be worth something as opposed to weeks upon weeks of nothing.
@Thousand:
Inu yasha .
Yes, Inu Yasha was a horrible example of filler, where it padded out the series badly and took an already over-extended narrative, where even the manga itself was full of filler, and made it even longer.
Good example of bad filler.
Unlike Bleach which has good filler.
I still want to see more of that one shinigami who got left behind and covered himself in hollow masks. He was badass.
That guy was actually supposed to be in the manga, but was left out because Kubo didn't have time.
If Bleach doesn't end with the karakura town arc, we may see rukia go back for him.
The main reason Bleach filler is good is because that it's Kubo's original intention, most of the time. From the interviews I've read, Kubo had planned to incorporate the Bounts, the early Hueco Mundo stuff, and this recent Zanpakuto Arc all into the manga, it's just that Bleach's pacing prohibited it. Because Bleach has entire pages of just swinging swords, it would take years and years to add all these filler arcs in and would drag the main story out even more.
I don't get it, either. If you ever read Zombie Powder, that series was go, go, go. The pacing was fast and Kubo actually took the time to draw really decent backgrounds. Given that he's said many times in interviews that he's given the background for all the filler arcs in Bleach, it's obvious he's not doing the pacing problem out of spite or dislike of the series… So what is it? Pressure from his Editor? Who knows...

Wow, really? I thought it had SOME filler that was better than the manga. Like those Inu Yasha in the real world filler episodes and that Miroku's master is gonna die episode.

The difference is that Zombie Power only lasted less than a year, the same time frame that a chunk of the Karakura arc (the fun part of the series) lasted in Bleach. Who is to say that that wouldn't have dragged too if Kubo got popular with that instead of "random characters swinging swords with one being a super-popular shota".

It actually was popular. The reason it got cancelled is because Kubo had a lot of stress in his personal life and quite literally had a meltdown while writing/drawing it. He and his editor decided to end/cancel the series and he went on hiatus for a while, then came back and started Bleach. Zombie Powder and Super Unholy Hearted Machine were actually really good.
@'[[\0_0/:
/]_Spider;1358513']im jus as shocked as she is…i mean did i miss sumthing major..how did Ichigo get that strong?
Ichigo's huge reiatsu is one of the few things that Kubo is keeping consistent from the good Bleach days: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/bleach/v06/c049/16.html
Ichigo was beating Byakuya who is one of the stronger captains way back in SS and he only needed his hollow's help because his reiatsu when compressed into bankai was too much for him:http://www.mangafox.com/manga/bleach/v19/c166/6.html
So after all this time and all these fights it should be no surprise that the depths of his reiatsu is 2x captain level when he could fight on par with one of the stronger captains way back when he had even less control over his powers.
Before he just couldn't control his reiatsu so he couldn't fight at his highest potential which is why Ichigo's spirit road was still messed up in this chapter even though he has captain level reiatsu (just like Unohana) at only 50% to work with. Kubo never had anyone state how vast Ichigo's full reiatsu is, so he could've had Ichigo say any percentage of his power and have that at captain's level.
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/bleach/v19/c162/14.html
If you look at the previous pages, his Shinigami robes are missing one sleeve. Here, as he releases his Bankai, they're perfectly restored.
So… yeah, looks like Kubo was consistent with this idea and didn't just make that up on the fly.
but seriously guys, ichigo really needs to be naked to really be confirmed dead?? I thought it was a joke in part 2 discussion -_-

I need to read Zombie Powder…but from what I saw on a Japanese site, ZP had problems in the ranking for most of it's run. Yeah a lot had to do with Kubo still being a newbie and his mental break-down but it did collapse in the rankings as it was running. I need to pretty much look it over on a Japanese site but it did have a lot of problems.

I also read/heard the same thing. ZP got canceled because of its poor rating/sales and complex storyline.
Hence why we got Bleach - not so complex storyline and lots and lots of money coming from it.
Capt. Highwind on TZ typed this up, thought I'd share it:
My procrastination has gotten the better of me, but now I am going to sit down and finish this:
Subsitiute Shinigami arc
Chapter 001, Death & Strawberry, released January 5, 2002
~Chapter 050, Quincy Archer Hates You Part 2, released February 2003?Soul Society arc
Chapter 051, Death 3, released February 2003?
~Chapter 182, Get Back From The Storm, released March 2006?Arrancar Invasion arc
Chapter 183, Eyes of the Unknown, released April 2006?
~Chapter 233, El Violador, released March 2007?Rescue Orihime arc
Chapter 234, Not Negotiation, released April 4, 2007
~Chapter 315, March of the Death, released November, 2008?Turn Back the Pendulum/Fake Karakura Town
Chapter -108, Turn Back The Pendulum, December 4, 2008
~??? But it looks like it will come to a close around the end of '09, start of '10.So that means the Subsitute Shinigami arc took about 1 year, while the Soul Society arc took roughly 2 and a half years. The Arrancar Invasion arc also took one year, with the entire Las Noches arc, so far, taking two and a half years as well. It all seems pretty even to me. Now if this arc keeps spreading into 2010 and beyond…but I really doubt that.
It's understandable to think the Soul Society arc wasn't as horribly-paced as the current arc, but that's because a lot of people had access to those chapters in bulk, and now everybody has to wait every week for the new chapters and see the pacing as it always has been.
Sure, it seems evenly paced if you break it up like THAT. But if you break it up how its ACTUALLY been, first Soul Society, then Arrancar…
Subsitiute Shinigami arc
Chapter 001-Chapter 050=50 chapters
Soul Society arc
Chapter 051-Chapter 182=151 chapters
Arrancar
Chapter 183-383+=200+ chapters (I have no idea how long the - chapters were)
This arc had been fully half the series and then some. And actually, Soul Society was endlessly long as well, nevermind being able to see it in bulk. 150 episodes is crazy long.

the -chapters were 12 of them, so like 212 chatpers lets say, give or take a couple.
one piece is at chapter 563, so 563-212=351. lets see what we were doing back then.
Hmm ussop was fighting with franky about dismanteling the ship in water 7. So in the amount of time that bleach ahs been in this arc, one piece has finished up water 7, did the whole enies lobby, did thriller bark, unmasked duval, was on shabondy, then amazon lily, impel down, and now at marine headquarters trying to save ace.
heck look at fairy tail, its what 160 chapters total. And has had like 8 arcs. or at least 6 big arcs. Island of demons, phantom guild, stellar king, r-system, fairy festival, and oracion seis.
Hell even a ton happened in Naruto. THere is no question BLEACH is goin way toooo slow.
