Okay I have a question for Steve specifically and it has nothing to do with One Piece, I swear I thought I saw you on CNN celebrating at Ground Zero tonight. Were you there?
I just checked your twitter account, I saw you on CNN Steve!!!

It certainly could explain why there was no podcast today.
Just saw both Zach and Steve there, in fact I am watching right now, and Steve is rocking a black One Piece shirt.
It certainly could explain why there was no podcast today.
Actually there was no podcast today because it was an especially long episode to edit. It'll be up tomorrow afternoon. Promise ;).
I saw on twitter that you were looking for Steve and Zach on CNN footage…
I found a video with Steve (his shirt) and Zach starting at about 40 seconds in.
Thanks for all the work you guys do to help One Piece here in the US. I really enjoy the Podcasts.
Cool! I have that same shirt.
Awesome find Trane! We appreciate it! But trust me, it was only mere coincidence I was wearing that shirt that day.
Hey I was wondering what you guys thought of this theory. What if Luffy's mother is actually Roger's sister. This would explain the connection between Dragon and Roger and Luffy and Ace's close resemblance. Also I doubt Dragon and Roger are brothers because it doesn't seem like Garp is Rogers father.
Hey guys I a question concerning Oda's use of cuss words, I've noticed how the mangastream translators use swearing a lot when translating and we all know how Viz decided not to use swearing at all for the kiddies. This question is more towards Greg seeing as he has all the volumes in Japanese, I am just wondering how often does Oda in fact use cuss words and has he actually used the word fuck in his manga. Thanks for the awesome podcast guys keep it up!
Hey guys.
Theory: Do you think it is possible that Smoker,Tashigi, Coby, Hermeppo, Hina, Jango and Fullbody will form an elite marine team (trained by Garp and Sengoku) to fight the straw hats in the NW ?
At this point in the story, I don't think that even Smoker could take on all the straw hats by himself and that he will need help.
I do think it will be a cool way to see them sailing off to go after their rivals as a cliffhanger and their reintroduction.
If we get a new series for Part 2 of One Piece, do you guys think that "We Are" will be the first opening for the series, or do you think we will have just a regular old song by someone for an opening? Or perhaps do you think that Hiroshi Kitadani will come back and make up a new song as Opening 1?
GIMME A BANANA ZACH!
@Zach:
No…. ?
Alright then.
After reading the latest chapter, do you guys now think that Luffy will destroy Fishman Island? Otohime's pleading to her subjects makes me think that the island is a crutch that everyone is using so they don't have to leave. Destroying the island will force everyone to leave and go topside. Which will fulfill Otohime's dream to some extent.
What do you guys think?
If Fishman Island is destroyed, how will that effect others heading to the New World?
Wanted to know if any of you guys were disappointed that Fisher Tiger, who was seen one-shotting Rear Admirals, get killed by fodder marines with guns…
I think everyone expected the Celestial Dragon to kill Otohime in this chapter, and again Oda pulled a fast one on us. Who do you guys now think will ultimately kill Otohime. My guess would be Van Der Decken because he wants Shirahoshi for her haki ability. I think he will do it in secret when no one is around, and then come out and somehow blame the government or the Celestial Dragons. What are your guesses…if you haven't brought this up already in the recap of course
Do you think that Laboon will get a cover story? If yes, will he see Brooke's wanted poster and recognize him. Or will Oda prolong the secret?
Last week on the podcast I guessed that Van Der Decken would be the one to kill Otohime, and the evidence in this chapter would suggest that he was the one that did it.
I changed my mind and now think that Hodi Jones is the killer. Hodi has repeatedly said he is a follower of Arlong's will and the hatred for humans. 2 or 3 chapters ago we saw Jinbe talking to the king about becoming a Warlord and we also saw Hodi listening and his face go white after hearing Jinbei's change of heart. Seeing Otohime's dream nearly become a reality was too much for Hodi and like an idiot, he killed the Queen.
This is the only way I think to make us truly hate Hodi, and now completes Hodi's version into an Arlong clone. Why? You can't become and Arlong clone without killing someone's mother right in front of them.
I was reading chapter 626 and I notice the in the panel where Otohime is leaving you can see what look like Keimi and Pappug as kids in the bottom right corner.
Did you find this as creepy as I did?
!
I have a non One Piece question for Greg. I hope you guys are okay with this. If not, feel free to skip over it.
I am trying to study Japanese, but I'm in no position to take actual classes because I am already going to school for forensic psychology and I work in between all of that. But I was wondering if there are any good self-instructional videos, audio books or text books for English speakers you would recommend. I am basically looking for something I can study on my own in my free time in between my other priorities. I am focusing more on reading and writing, as I know a good amount through listening.
Sorry again for the off topic question.
Hi guys at the One Piece podcast. I am a new fan and I have been mainlining your podcast for the last 3 weeks. Im almost caught up now and I have noticed that sometimes you guys mention Oda's inconsistencies. Maybe I am just too easy on Oda's mistakes and assume there will be an explanation in the future, but I was wondering, other than scars and similar artistic goofs, what inconsistencies stand out to you guys that I clearly am not seeing? Thanks for the awesome podcast guys, its definitely a highlight of my week!!
Congrats on the two years!!!
Do you guys think that Hodi was behind the murder of Otohime? I found it very odd that Hodi was the only one who "saw" the shooter. Not to mention that the shooter did not confess himself, since it looked like Hodi had already beaten him half to death (maybe on purpose).
Do you think Hodi may have shot the queen and then blame it on the human or make the human shoot her with a bribe or against his will?
<3 SonPan
Hey guys,
are you planning on going back to Anime Expo this year? I thought your panel was a huge success last time.
Hey guys,
something random just came to mind about Dragon and a possible devil fruit/power. Maybe he has some power over the wind or something. Just think about every time we see him and how the wind play a factor for the story.(Ex. the Gray Terminal Fire and the Loguetown escape [Baltigo is also known as very windy])
Is it more likely that Jinbe ends up fighting Hodi and not Luffy? Jinbe had told him not to fight him after all. Also wouldn't it be a lot easier for Fishmen in general to accept someone who is respected to beat Hodi than another human.
Hey guys,
One Piece at a time blog wrote an article about volume 62 receiving low ratings in Japan. http://www.onepieceatatimeblog.com/2011/06/manga-state-of-series-worth-wait.html.
Why do you think it is happening ?
I personally love this volume because the adventure spirit is back and it is a prominent theme of the series.
Any endorsements this year for the APforums character tournament?
Do you guys have any recommendations for where to buy One Piece merchandise at an affordable price? Like PoPs (btw, how excited are you for that Eneru PoP?).
Also, a question for firecrouch since it's about ratings: can you tell me about One Piece's popularity in Malaysia? I noticed awhile back on ebay that there were lots of copies of Strong World with English and Malaysian subtitles. I just thought it was odd that they'd have English subs out before the US. Someone who bought one said it was good quality too, not a crappy bootleg.
This one I think is more for Jason, or maybe Greg… Some years ago a list was published with the Shonen Jump mangas and their sales numbers.... This list here
[hide][/hide]
And by that time, the average sales per volume of OP was a lot lower than DB (OP:2,980,000/DB:3,570,000), but with all the SW stuff and the big OP "DON" of 2009, we all know the series reached at least 223,000,000 in sales ( the 200,000,000 of last year, plus the 23,000,000 published this last week)
So, with 223,000,000 and 62 volumes, the average now is close to 3,600,000 per volume. The question is, do we have any numbers of how much DB sold in these last years?… Can we already say OP has the best average of all time?
Quick question: when is the Loguebook coming back?
Oh yeah, speaking of Loguebook… I emailed the link to a friend of mine today. Sorry for the additional comment so soon, but I just wanted to tell you guys a neat story.
One of my friends, who is not an anime fan in any sense of the word, asked me not too long ago if she could borrow some One Piece volumes. She's read up to volume 4. She said "[One Piece] is weird, but I want to find out more." I'm really thrilled because she's the first person I've convinced to give it a try. School's over now, so it'll be slightly harder to lend them out, but I definitely don't want her to lose interest. Some questions:
I have up to volume 13 of Viz, but if/when she gets up to that point, I was thinking about giving her links to online scanlations. Can you recommend the best quality sites with reliable translations? I don't want her to be turned off by the crappy, low-quality scans that appeared especially in earlier chapters. I just know she's the kind of person to dislike grammatical errors enough to not read something (for awhile I was the same way and really had to force myself to a point in order to catch up with the series). Another thing that concerns me is that she'll find out how long the series really is. How should I handle this?
How often do you think the One Piece Collections will release? Maybe one collection every 3 to 4 months?
Hey guys, did you notice on the cover of chapter 629 that Nojiko is missing half her tattoo? She should have a lacy pattern going across her collar bone but instead she just has the sleeve.
And as Luffy is vulnerable to fishman karate, do you think Hodi Jones will be able to use it later when they inevitabley clash? And this has been the funniest chapter I think we've had for a long time, looking forward to the review! :)
Hey guys.
With chapter 629,I understand why Robin is called the demon child.
Weird question : Do you think it worse to get your balls smashed by Robin (which is sorta of hot) or failing to kiss her and being hit by a Haki and a fishman karate punch ?
Hey guys,
Feel free to also give your opinion and point of view on this matter, but this question is mostly directed at Greg.
Recently it was shown that Oda drew a fanart of a person, and it happened to be that of Taeyeon… the leader of SNSD (Shojou Jidai).
I remembered you mentioned a while back how anything dealing with South Koreans is a touchy subject in Japan, and that Oda came under criticism by the japanese communities because of a certain comment he made.
Here again, Oda drew a fanart of Taeyeon, from the Kpop Idol girl group SNSD. How will the Japanese people view this action by Oda???
I find it also interesting that how the tension between China/Japan/Korea are similar to the situation between humans and fishman. Where in the manga it was stated how the cycle of hate needs to end, and not be passed onto the children's.
This is a really interesting situation where there is great bitterness between the countires, and here you have the most popular mangaka writing an arc dealing with the issue of hate and differences of race and ethnicity.
PS. That is Taeyeon from her Lady Marmalade performance during the SNSD Japan tour. So that means that Oda took a day off from drawing One Piece and actually went to a live concert recently…
Hi guys,
Anime question: Do you prefer Mihawk's new VA or the old one ?
I personally prefer Aono's voice. He seemed more intense elegant, and memorable.
When will Ed try out for the One Piece dub? Great voice.
I just finish episode 176 of the podcast and I think that Shirley is Arlong younger sister because he is 41 and if shirley is the older one than her tail should of split already, but maybe I misheard you.
What was the farthest distance you´ve ever travelled for the podcast?
I know that the rumors/ predictions has existed for a while now, What do you guys think about Jimbei joining the Strawhats crew, the fact that he had a flashback (and so far really only crew members get those) and that he seems to be in a more main starring role in the current saga, does kinda make it seem he could join.
Or could he be just a arc-ally like Vivi, Conis and Ivankov, what do y'all think, honest thoughts ?
I would like to hear Greg's answer on this, if he is on the next podcast:
A question dealing with Devil Fruits. It is said that there can be only one of each type of fruit at a time, limited to only the one "person" who ate it. Is this referring to the body of that "person", or to the individual soul? Hypothetically speaking, if a pair of conjoined twins ate a devil fruit, then later were medically split into two separate twins, would both have the same devil fruit power because they were "of one body" at the time they consumed it?
EDIT: Woah, I managed to stump Greg!
When we found out that Zoro and Sanji know what haki is, it flashed me back to when Rayleigh was first explaining to luffy the 3 different types. Back then I had the idea that the monster trio would each develop one of the 3 (with luffy perfecting all 3, of course). I thought it would be fitting for Zoro to have mantraki since a swordsman can definitely benefit from those skills, and Sanji would have armor haki for his fiery kicks (which would help against a certain logia user who's kidnapping his beloved mermaids). Your thoughts?
Also, i don't know if this was ever talked about in detail or not, but all this talk about reverie this year is really getting me hyped for when oda actually draws this meeting in the story (if he will at all). If he does, there's no doubt to be major revelations about the world they all live in 2 years in the future. Also, appearances by king cobra and dalton wouldn't hurt either. What could they be discussing this year?
Sorry for the rambling :D
Hey Guys,
On the most recent podcast Greg stated that all the complaints about the arc should stop because based on the last 3 chapters Oda has reverted back to his usual form, tied up loose ends, and "fixed" the arc. I must respectfully disagree. While the last 2-3 chapters have been a huge upgrade from the chapters that came before, what usualy would be greatness, like Luffy and the SH's entrance into the plaza, falls flat because of the poor quality of the arc up to that point. Now there are a lot of things that bothered me about the arc thus far like pacing, character development, and such but the most glaring issue, especially now, is how poor the villian is. Luffy beginning his beatdown of Hodi isn't nearly as exiciting as it should be because their has been no build up between the characters (unless you count that terribly out of nowhere line about how he wants to be Pirate King) and the fact that Hodi is the blandest and most boring main villain the SHs' have faced since getting on the Grand Line. The only other time I can recall a villain having so little build up and personal connection to Luffy is Enel but he was at least eccentric and original. Hodi is basically a rehash of Arlong minus his charisma and his history with Nami which is what made him matter to us. I know I'm being a bit harsh on Hodi's character but Oda has set the bar so high with his great villians that it always feels a lot worse when the quality dips below it. Do you guys agree or disagree about my assessment of Hodi and how do you feel about how important having a good villain is to the overall quality of the arc.
After witnessing Jinbe block Hody's water shot, one of the fishmen pirates states that Jinbe was the first fishman to serve as one of the Seven Warlords of the Seas. Do you think that implies that since then, there has been another fishman warlord, possibly Arlong since it could explain why we haven't seen him in this arc or in the cover series?
Do you guys think the reason why Luffy reacted strongly towards Hodi's threat against Surume and his brothers was because it reminded him of Ace and maybe Sabo?
Hey guys love the podcast keep up the great work!
I got a question regarding the fishman island arc and just how long it will last and what could it lead in too. I think that this could be just the first part of say a two part saga, i.e water 7, enies lobby because it just feels like there are many things yet to know.
I.e
-Caribou
-Where is Aladdin?
-The ageing box
-The manufacturer of the steroids
-The prophecy of Noah (Though that seems to be coming up)
-Whats going to happen with the reverie.
-How luffy will destroy fishman island
-Arlong and Madam Shirley's relationship
-How will Noah be stopped?
-Could there be a deeper meaning to why hody is so over confident in his plans and abilities despite the fact that strawhats are kicking their asses?
-What of Big Mom and her beloved candy factory?
I have a theory that whilst Surume is covering Shirahoshi, Caribou will slide in, steal her and escape while the strawhats are occupied with the NFP and the threat of Noah. This could then lead to other possible events occuring in which I cannot be sure on what exactly but it could lead into making this arc a much larger scale than what we at first believed.
What are your opinions on this?
cheers.
will your guys ever having a non-jump related sub-pocast?
like a FAIRY TAIL podcast~?
With the new OP game is there no chance this gets released out west? If it gets a European release do they have their own dub or would it be subbed? Also has the podcast ever interviewed Sonny Strait? Seems like you've gotten to interview every other big name from Funimation.
I asked this question before but I think it should be asked here.
The picture of the post time skip Super Novae makes me wonder, which designs came first?
The initial designs, or the two years later designs?
I remember reading that the initial designs were created in about three hours, and that we were originally supposed to see them in the New World rather than Saobody.
