I'm vouching that Ace dies while saving Luffy's life as they are leaving or something. I'm still convinced WBs going down in this arc or the next, Ace looses his reason to live as it was his dream to make WB the PK. So sacrifices himself to save Luffy so he can live his dream instead.

Also, Sengoku said that Ace will continue to get more powerful until he stands at the summit of the new era. Oda doesn't strike me as the type of writer who would waste such foreshadowed potential by killing the person off.

If it were unrelated, it would be a pointless deus ex and I know how to use the term properly (deus ex machinas are used to resolve story points that are not neccessarily in the protagonist's favor).

Actually that wasn't my argument at all but it is funny to see what happens when people jump into something they don't understand based on their preconceptions on what would be the most commonplace argument.

There's this, and then there's the fact that the WG has played up his execution a crapload more than what an average yonkou's 2nd division commander would get (assumption, but they have really played up Ace's execution). If you haven't caught on, I'm bored and playing devil's advocate atm, but really they made a big deal out of executing Ace even before revealing his heritage. Ok, so maybe it was to lure WB, but you have to admit it's going to inevitably draw a lot of public attention as well. Then add to that Sengoku revealing to the world that Ace is Roger's son and people are going to go crazy to see him killed (or in some pirates' cases, as I'm sure they'd all have diff opinions of Roger, to see him escape). So maybe the WG's goal is to take down WB, but to have Roger's son escape during an execution the whole world is watching would seem incompetant, sloppy, and weak.
I can see Ace's situation going either way and it's entirely determined by what Oda does with the war.

He said Luffy would have failed if Ace died to reasons that come from the war itself. He said it didn't matter whether those reasons caused him to die during the war or after. Your scenario has Ace dying of entirely different reasons.

Way to validate everyone's opinion while staying completely neutral! That, my good man, is called playing it safe! 
In the spirit of good sportsmanship, I believe this too. However I am willing to say fo-sho that Ace won't die.
Still, a panel showing Ace's pain striken face as the blades dive into his flesh just feels so right I can actually see it! However, Ace's death, as symbolically important as it may be, does not change the face of the world's power balance. WB dying does. And this is supposed to be an event that is enourmous and unforgettable. In the end, WB's death matters more than Ace's.
As to what will happen, I'm pretty sure it's WB that's dying. It's unlikely that Oda will be pulling two big time on screen deaths in one arc, when he probably has a really hard time with just one. And Ace dying without WB dying as well is just too stupid an idea to entertain story wise. He'd just pull everyone back and destroy MF.
Sure there's that Oda unpredictability. But he's not one to snuff out a person's dreams midway. WB has already done all that he wanted, he is sick, and his ultimate dream is to make Ace the PK. If he dies by saving Ace, he is esentially achieving part of his dream, so it makes a lot more sense by Oda logic than snuffing Ace out before his time to shine.

The only thing they've yet to warp in their favor is Luffy's escape from Sabaody. Instead they seem to be presenting it as he hit the tenryubito and escaped before they could get to that part of the archipalego (my interpretation since all we see is "SH hit a tenryubito! help us capture him!"). Ace escaping execution on the other hand, would not be so easily covered up. Not w/ the whole world paying attention as the event unfolds (as opposed to the other examples where they found out after and had a reaction).
It seem likely that someone will die but considering the fact that Oda has never killed a named character (excluding flashbacks) this war can only be concluded with BB's actions which could affect both sides on the war. Now that Luffy has the key to free Ace, i thing that he will eventually succed in freeing him. But Ace simply getting freed and returing to his crewmates sounds dumb if nothing is sacrificed other than the lives of fodders pirates/marines.

That's exactly the point. The WG has been hiding/manipulating the truth to protect their own reputation for arc after arc. It's about time for all of that to come crashing down on them. A sort of retribution that's been a long time coming, so to speak.

Indeed. I've said several times that I'm neutral on the issue of Ace's death (just playing devil's advocate to keep from being bored). I would like to see WB die and the Marines crippled. The "Three Powers" balance needs to be shaken up on all sides imo. And this doesn't mean make them all equally weaker necessarily. WB dies, ok that's one less yonkou, balance upset. Marines lose either a big name or two or a crap load of fodder such that the big names have too much to be able to handle alone, balance upset. Hancock, Jimbei, and BB leave Shichi, balance upset. imo this makes things interesting as there will be issues facing the futures of the former shichis, islands once protected by WB will return/turn to chaos, and the Marines will have a harder time keeping the peace leading to formerly peaceful places becoming havens for bandits/pirates/gangs/etc
And @ Urouge: I agree with that. I suppose I'm not-so-neutral on Ace's death any more. Though I can still see it either way… there's just a slight chance though.

I'm hoping the marines will gain more power after this war having a bigger influence on the new world making the interaction between them and the SH more intense.
If WB dies and the Island under his controls turn to Chaos as loledinmypants suggested then i think we havent seen the last of The Celestial Dragons yet. They already wanted revenge on Luffy and his crew. After this war the SH will go to fishmen island and get into a large fight with the slave traders who were in turn supported by the Celestial Dragons. Then Luffy has to claim that those are his Island and protect it as WB did in the past.
From what we learned on Shabondy and Lily about Haki, it seems that a master haki user can stop any devil fruit ability, or affect it. Boa was able to kick smoker with her haki. When Luffy fought the snake sisters, they could read his movements, repel his attacks and disable his rubber ability to inflict damage. It seems if Luffy is to stand a chance against these admirals, Don Flamingo and such, he will need to learn haki. Perhaps Hancock will tell him how? They have the same "king's haki" after all.

Teach broke into Impel Down. I find it hard to believe that the WG's prison would not relay this to the higherups, especially with how Magellan is. If he's not stripped of his shichi title for this, then presumably by the end of the war his event that'll shake the world to its core will cause his dismissal from the shichi. And Hancock continues to attack Smoker. Unless Oda tries to brush it aside w/ her beauty gag and Smoker not mentioning it to anyone, I doubt she'll get off easily. And for the record, I'll be pissed if he writes it off with the beauty gag. If magically Smoker's the only one who notices her actions and doesn't say anything, meh ok, but don't go the gag route for something this important Oda.

Marines get crippled = more pirate/bandit/bounty hunters hopefully. Shichi weakened doesn't mean much in the end, but it could spawn arcs where Jimbei and/or Hancock play a big role (or Teach as a villian, but he's the end boss, no?). WB killed throws his islands into chaos, which could mean many things, but at the very least means Fishman Island will be even more interesting beyond the whole being hyped for a loooooooooonnnnngggg time

Crocodile isn't fighting Doflamingo. Jozu was fighting him until Doflamingo came in and took control of him, and then asked Crocodile to join forces with him.
So at worst it's Doflamingo & Crocodile VS Jozu, but to me it looks more like Doflamingo (controlling Jozu) & Crocodile VS Whitebeard Pirates.
I just hope that the new world doesn't become pirates vs Strawhats but will also involves a marines repositioning themselves in the world after WBs vacuum. It would be more interesting to have the 2 sides eagerly fighting over territory with the SHs in the middle of all the chaos.
This is more or less what I'm thinking about kind of. Though in some cases it may just be pirates or local bandits that were more powerful than the average pirate but weaker than WB's crew (srsly, I want some grp other than pirates and marines…). Some cases it may just be a badass Marine. And plz Oda, bring us some kickass bounty hunters in the New World. We haven't seen the likes of them since Johnny and Yosaku and the mention of them at Sabaody got me excited.
And it'd be questionable about BB being welcomed back for defeating WB. It depends, imo, on what he's doing in Impel Down.Even if he's just freeing the lvl 6 prisoners, I'd expect that'd be too much against the WG for them to forgive for killing WB as many pirates would want to do anyway.
Boa is going to lose her warlords status for fighting smoker . But if BB kill WB he going to kept his , that make no sense to me. Not like that really matter cause BB only want to be a warlord to get into ID it seems . Even if they let him back in i don't think he would be one again . Being a warlord was just 1 part of his plan . If he kill WB that would help the WG but in some ways his plan could be a even bigger bother to them depending what it is.

There's no such things as going too far in this kind of story, and frankly I feel like TLC posted after this particular post. Wrecking Impel Down and bringing this army is probably impressive in-story, but to the viewer it's not really that cool. Also…

You say this like it's so easy. How far do you think the WG/Marines will have to go to kill Whitebeard, with all the power his army has shown? People may have predicted that WB will die, and it's possible that the WB pirates will legitimately lose but does anyone thing Whitebeard will die without making a huge impact on this war? And from that, does anyone thing that the remaining pirates wouldn't capitalize on that?
My point is, while the government has a lot of power on their side, at the current point of the story I don't think anyone can accomplish all that. An admiral or two would probably need to sacrifice their body or something–something extreme like that.

I don't buy this one bit. They're trading one emperor for a more malevolent one when Teach kills WB. This type of thinking severely underestimates how dangerous the government regards the stronger level 6 pirates or any of the level 6 pirates. Even WB took note of buggy's group which is mostly level 2&1 pirates with some 4&5 littering the bunch as a slight potential threat to his men.
Collectively the new Strongest Man in the world and his crew, Catarina, San Juan wolf, Busco Shot, Shiryuu, dozens of level 6 pirates serving as fodder, maybe even more level 1-5 escapees left hanging, and anybody Iva didn't mention might be considered as dangerous as WB, Marco, Jozu, Thatch, and Ace+ 1000+ level 2-5 fodder. Sure Teach will gain even more followers around the world laughing his ass off on the Big Screen when all is said and done. So in the end I highly doubt they'd trust Teach enough to ask him back, fearing him too much and I doubt he'd be interested in helping them either.
I think if BB shows up and kills WB he will take the title of Yonkou using his title of shibi only as a stepping stone…so even if the WG and Marines offer him his shibi title he wont take it.
i think the marines might think that blackbeard is their friend as he finishes killing whitebeard but i think that is when blackbeard turns on the marines and he and all the people he brings from impel down will end up taking out all the high level marines left. at that point i think people like doflamingo will also turn on the marines knowing that whoever wins gets to make up the rules and this will be a good opportunity to change the era. moria will most likely turn on the marines as well since he would use that opportunity to capture a bunch of really powerful shadows and getting a hold of several powerful dead bodies. crocodile would most likely fight as well. jimbei and hancock would most likely flee once whitebeard dies. i don't know what mihawk would do in this situation. kuma would probably fight blackbeard but who knows what happens to him.

i don't think blackbeard wants to become an emperor since emperor is a just a word. he is probably going to end up being referred to as one later on when he gets a big enough crew and a bunch of allies. sure the emperors have a lot of power in the new world but i bet there are still a ton of very powerful pirate crews out there that would ally with blackbeard for their own benefit. there are a lot of pirate crews that want whitebeard dead and i bet the same goes for the other 3 emperors. if all of those guys and other neutral pirates ally with blackbeard then they could take down the emperors one by one. also who is to say that an emperor wouldn't reach out to blackbeard and borrow his power to take down another emperor? i bet kaidou would probably want shanks dead for interfering in his attempt to hurt whitebeard. btw being a shichibukai in the new world isn't going to make you safe. the pirates rule that sea not the world government or the marines.
Nah, in my opinion, that would be tantamount to Luffy not saving him at all and all the inherent problems (wasting an arc, Luffy's anguish etc.) still apply. It'd be a bigger kick in the balls if Luffy manages to get Ace out just for him to die anyway.
That scenario? Yes.
It would be counterproductive if SOMEONE PRESENT there killed Ace effortlessly after he was freed.
However…for an unknown X factor to appear on the scene and do the deed? Yes. That would qualify and wouldnt detract from Luffys effort.

Firstly I don't see how your relation between "going to the store and punching yourself in the nuts is the same as BB attacking Ace" makes any sense.
BB's plans could have easily grown since he defeated Ace and he most probably expected WB's retaliation.
Therefore if he desired to lure out WB he succeeded, but who's to say that him killing Ace wouldn't make sense?!
Can you not easily imagine BB destroying Ace for whatever reasons he feels would turn the situation in his favor.

Sorry for the late response, but this comment has been bugging me. It's like you're asking for mediocrity here. There's no such things as going too far in this kind of story, and frankly I feel like TLC posted after this particular post. Wrecking Impel Down and bringing this army is probably impressive in-story, but to the viewer it's not really that cool.
He convinced the most beautiful woman on earth who is not at all interested in men to take him to Impel down. He amazed everyone at amazon lily.
He broke in the the most secure and scary prison in the whole world lost only against a walking poison man only to come back and wreck havoc with some friends he found. Then he sailed with a lot of strong guys from impel down to the MHQ the center of one of the biggest war the world has seen jumped into the chaos and kicked some vice admirals only to loose against smoker (logia) who also use a sea stone… Now he is facing Mihawk.
I don't know but to me that's damn impressive for a rookie.
You say this like it's so easy. How far do you think the WG/Marines will have to go to kill Whitebeard, with all the power his army has shown?
They sure have a plan on which they count. If they're not serious about killing WB then they wouldn't have the all the top fighters on the battlefield. Don't forget that the marines have the 3 admirals vice admirals garp sengoku giants etc etc… No one has the upper hand right now.
People may have predicted that WB will die, and it's possible that the WB pirates will legitimately lose but does anyone thing Whitebeard will die without making a huge impact on this war?

My point is, while the government has a lot of power on their side, at the current point of the story I don't think anyone can accomplish all that. An admiral or two would probably need to sacrifice their body or something–something extreme like that.

I don't buy this one bit. They're trading one emperor for a more malevolent one when Teach kills WB. This type of thinking severely underestimates how dangerous the government regards the stronger level 6 pirates or any of the level 6 pirates. Even WB took note of buggy's group which is mostly level 2&1 pirates with some 4&5 littering the bunch as a slight potential threat to his men.
Hmm Bbs crew is still running around even after he became a shichibukai. Why would this be different. I don't see BB having 1000 fodder pirates working for him after the war.
Collectively the new Strongest Man in the world and his crew, Catarina, San Juan wolf, Busco Shot, Shiryuu, dozens of level 6 pirates serving as fodder, maybe even more level 1-5 escapees left hanging, and anybody Iva didn't mention might be considered as dangerous as WB, Marco, Jozu, Thatch, and Ace+ 1000+ level 2-5 fodder. Sure Teach will gain even more followers around the world laughing his ass off on the Big Screen when all is said and done. So in the end I highly doubt they'd trust Teach enough to ask him back, fearing him too much and I doubt he'd be interested in helping them either.
The marines work with the shichibukais. If let's say mihawk defeat WB or moria do you think the marines will suddenly became scared of him like "wait…. You're way too strong now we can't let you".
BB stated himself that he isn't the marines/wg enemy. They're allies. So far i don't see him quit the shichibukai status cause there are still 3 emperors in the new world. So far he has a small crew full of super strong pirates i don't see him so soon with 1000 of fodder pirates. Even hancock has a crew of pirates while being a shichibukai. There has to be a reason why Teach wanted to become a shichibukai. Which isn't the actual war.

I don't think Ace will die since Luffy will try to take revenge whomever kills Ace and it will take the manga from its course. If BB for example kills luffy then Luffy will chase BB to the end of the serries maybe (ofcourse if BB dies immediately after Ace dies it won't happen) and I don't see it possible.. I don't think anyone will die at all since Oda doesn't kill anyone but it would be good if WB died, and some things changed..
