On a sidenote, can someone tell me where I can find a pic of the gender swapped SH? I can't see the pic of them in this thread.

Ha Usopp is african? Man that's a terrible stereotype. So now I wonder about Aokiji.
Aokiji is based off Yusaku Matsuda, shudup.
Admirals, other guys like Auger and such make me wanna go "BWUAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAA FAIL" at Oda after his " I want to have the confidence to say that I thought up all the people and the entire story by myself" from the 56 SBS. -

He said that he didn't take advice from his editors on what to do in the manga. He still has inspiration, especially that glaring Dragonball inspiration.

Well that was the translation Shayera did~
-
Of course, we can't have a nazi symbolic in children's show about a world, scourged by millions of pirates, who are opposed by the goverment, destroying its own countries. Not at all.
The only problem is that it is not a Nazi symbol at that it an element in Japanese society (the only thing I could think from top of my head is that it is used in city maps to show where buddhist temples are located). So yeah, considering that One Piece is a Japanese anime that should not be a bother at all.
-
Yeah it's not a Nazi symbol. The angles are 45 degrees off:
Compared to the Nazi symbol:
The symbol was used in Hinduism and Buddhism and other religions before the Nazis decided they were doing that too.
-
The Nazis also made it going to the right.
When it was still there it was deleted most of the time in the german version xD. It looked weird with only the skull. But they forgot it once or twice..

And this is precisely the reason why Oda needed to change the oiriginal WB badass manji flag…
Ace lose some cool points that day too.

And this is precisely the reason why Oda needed to change the oiriginal WB badass manji flag…
Because of ignorant people?
-
I reckon Kizaru would be from Italy
-
@Sir:
Because of ignorant people?
Most probably. The funny thing is though that the ignorant people would come from outside Japan seeing that practically everybody in Japan would comprehend what this symbol really is.
-
@kuma:
I reckon Kizaru would be from Italy
I reckon all 3 admirals are Japanese like the actors they portray.
-
Well, KiZaru is named Borsalino and there are other things that make him seem italian.
-
He's named Borsalino after Tanaka's role in Truck Yarro, it has nothing to do with Italia.
-
@Al!naJames:
Well that was the translation Shayera did~
So there's a complete SBS translation now available?
-
I think if any OP character is Italian it's Sir Crocodile….I do want there to be an italian OP character...I mean in the sense that Oda thinks of them as Italian like if he had to assign a nationality.
-
Did anyone consider this guy as the representative from Italy?
(Though I can definately see Croc or Borsalino as probable candidates.)
-
lol Usopp=Africa?
oh Oda you closet racist you
-
Oh, true Capone being based on Al Capone as well
-
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
Oh, true Capone being based on Al Capone as well
Yeah a lot of people tend to look over the awesomeness that is Capone. I really hope that Oda doesn't off him before he reaches the New World like many speculate. His DF has potential!
-
So there's a complete SBS translation now available?
Yes. Here http://shayera.livejournal.com/82237.html
I would really appreciate if you could read that up and check it, because some people said some bits were off -

A guy based on a New York gangster being the representative of Italy?
No, not really.

-
A guy based on a New York gangster being the representative of Italy?
No, not really.
And that New York gangster being born from Italian immigrants…He's a perfectly accurate choice, if not the best choice for an Italian rep.
-

That translation doesn't include the Strong World stuff though, neither the voice actor sbs (is there any?)
-
neither the voice actor sbs (is there any?)
Nope.
@SBS:And that's why SBS ends here! This time we're taking a break from seiyuu SBSs, but instead we offer a huge movie feature! SBS will be back next volume!
Even if there was one, most of the time the VA SBSs get ignored anyway. I don't remember seeing them for the last two volumes. Dunno, maybe because it's seldom worth translating?
-

No VA SBS. Just the movie thing and interview with the director. Maybe I'll translate that then. If someone gets to it first then that's that.
-
Well Croc's personality is fitting for him to be Italian based.
Al Capone was an Italian-American so yeah he would make sense to be Italian.
-
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
Al Capone was an Italian-American so yeah he would make sense to be Italian.
And yet there are characters, such as Crocodile, who are certainly more suited to the role of portraying Italy, rather than a man who created the iconic image of the signature American crime boss.
-
Does it really matter? Can't they both represent Italy?
-
Exactly…I don't get why it can't be both of them? I think Croc is a definite Italian-inspired character...the more Italians the better right?! =D lol
-
Pandaman locations updated. Man it's nice to bbe updated. Now if only I could get on top of the crew profiles -_- http://www.thegrandline.com/pandaman.html
-
Gender changing pics XD LOL!!
Actually, Sanji and Usopp looks pretty!! And Choppy….... OMG!! SO CUTE!!
But Robin... ^^;;; She looks so scary with bulky body and such....Thankyou very much for translating the SBS Greg. And I'll be waiting for any info on the Strong World part ^^
O yah, congrats CCC!

Nobody at Ibiza or Mallorca is shy no matter where they come from. And basing your understanding on a certain culture on experiences made at Ibiza or Mallorca is a really bad idea. Or are you telling me that you believe that the German culture is well represented by the Mallorca tourists?
But you do have a point though, Shyness Swedish? WTF? That certainly is not what my experience tells me and I've been to Sweden and have met Swedes all over the world (in different environments, not just Mallorca and Ibiza). Shyness is the last thing I'd think about when it comes to Swedish people. I'm sorry if I offended any Swedes by saying this but I definitely didn't have any disrespectful thoughts behind it.[/off topic]
Im pretty sure I have meet the most swedish persons of us 3 ;) Since Iam swedish.
This is what our text books say that we are. Then again how is it not obvious that the people who travel beyond our borders and are trying to meet new people from other cultures wont be shy? :P
It's a sterotype offcourse it wont fit on everyone ;). But it does fit great on the everyday swede. A swede is very timid and calm untill he gets drunk then he turns into a screaming fighting sob
-
I always saw Crocodile as being Russian :x. Capone fits Italy best.
-
I always figured Crocodile being Texan.
-
I thought Robin was… gets snipered
-
luffy is probably japanese brazilian, since brazil has like the largest japanese descendant population outside of japan.
and ussop seems to be north african.
can't see why brook is austrian though; and bach beethoven and mozart aren't austrian -
I would have liked more if Chopper had been from Finland (of course I hoped so, I am fin), because Santa Claus lives here (exept in many other countries Santa lives in North Pole).
-

Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Anton Bruckner, to mention just a few famous musician from Austria, though I'm not very interested in that kind of music.
As a matter of fact Austria was and still is famous all around the world for its music culture and colleges, so it's not surprising and only legit that Brook would be from Austria imo.... -

Who then drive fast though Denmark, to get alcohol.
Sorry, :p -

-
Here you go.
Holy fuck, female Zoro looks like me. :s
Even these three earrings.
But I'm male, go figure. -
So Brazilian Luffy, huh? I guess that's the image we get due to the favelas :/ oh well, at least we got Luffy
-
-
Luffy has the Beetle collecting thing from Japan, though didn't he?
-
I can't believe you guys are talking about Italy and no one's mentioned…
<< >>
Rob Lucci.
-
Goddamn it! this freaking volume still isnt out on Sasuga, want to buy NOW.
-
Pretty sure the mention that Luffy was actually holding onto the naked Hancock under all her clothes was a joke. All the scenes of him hiding clearly shows he's outside her dress and is simply under her cloak, Hancock asks him to get under her cloak, and when leaving the inspection room he's shown lifting up her cloak. Not only that, but Ms. Embarrassed Out of Her Mind Hancock would have gone into a coma if he really did this.
I don't agree with a lot of the nationalities, but I really don't care, and neither should any of you. It's not important, none of these places exist in the OPverse anyways. I wish he never did this, because now every biography, every wiki, etc.. out there is gonna be saying "Luffy is from Brazil", "Nami is from Sweden" and stuff when they're NOT. Let the wiki editing wars begin.
