Haha I grew up on those. That and the Hooberbloob Highway were my favorites. Still have them all on VHS.
I found a torrent of them all some time ago, I can try to hook you up for nostalgia's sake if you'd like.

I've been meaning to mention this for awhile: A movie done back in the 70's called "The Mouse and His Child". It's about a wind-up toy, which is a mouse couple, a father and son that are stuck together. They both end up far from the safety of the toy store, and are left to fend for themselves.
For me, it, and the book it's based on, it's like the predecessor to Toy Story. But, the way the events unfold remind me of one of Don Bluth's earlier films, even if both predate them. As you can probably guess, it fell into obscurity. Even I wasn't aware of its existence until two years ago.
Since the entire movie is on one Youtube video, I won't be embedding it. So, here's the link if you feel like checking it out:

Sure.
I'm not even sure how I ended up watching it, I think I randomly rented it from a video store because I loved Dr. Seuss.

I thought someone already posted a link to it in this thread - or it might have been another one, but I watched the movie because of someone on this forum.

The film is one of the stranger ones I've ever seen, but it isn't as tenth as weird as the book, which is pretty much a Children's Guide to Existential Philosophy. I really need to read it again since it's been at least fifteen years or more since I read it last.

That'd be me actually though I can't recall which thread it was either.
For those of us who saw it this summer, I thought I'd share that Despicable Me is now available for pre-order on Amazon (with 4-pack, 3-pack, and 2-packs available), with the release date being December 14th (helloooo, Christmas list!)
Each of the releases promote 3 all new mini-movies with the film. You know what this means?
MORE MEENYONS!

Looking at Rotten Tomatoes, it looks like for Legend of the Guardians you either love it or you hate it.
That's for critics though. The audience meter (nice new featuer) rates it at 72%.
I'm totally seeing it though. The one consensus is that the visuals are so good it's giving Pixar a run for it's money.
So yeah….............this.

I've never seen anything so British look so awful.

It's always been there, along with the top critics aggregate. But…it's annoying they feature it so prominently now, I go to RT to read professional opinions, not those of men-on-the street. BO already tell me enough about how popular with the people something is, I don't need/want a biased RT sample featured alongside the fair professional one. It gives the impression they're equal in weight, which sort of bites the authority of the formerly one-and-only professional opinion.
Example...PatF's Critic rating is 84%, 72% from the plebs. The Squeakquel, though, has 20% Critics and 59% audience.
Meaning...what? What exactly! It now means different things to different people, despite how much it might reinforce what we already think. What was once the definitive opinion now has a second opinion that makes it difficult for casual observers to make a decision.
OT...gonna watch LotG on STARS On-Demand early next year. I'll pass on the theatre experience this time around..
So yeah….............this.

… what?
I don't know weither to be amused or horrified. xD
Horror is an effective word.
It's Toy Story mutated by Dreamworks, except I'm not sure what studio is actually animating it.
Here we've got a Dreamworks-like trailer, complete with the regurgitation of credentials (including a DW alumni), the DW announcer and typical DW-style humour, but no major star voices are mentioned, nor is their sardonic wit or swearing, more characteristic of Disney. Plus, I heard the Tiki Room song in there somewhere.
It's possible such a movie is the dream-made-real of Disney's new CEO, which apparently is "imitate the competition".
If it's a taste of things to come, we might as well cut out our tongues here and now.
Gnomeo and Juliet? I thought that project was dead after Lasseter killed it after the Pixar merger. I didn't even know that they were still making it. Huh, so it's now produced by Touchstone rather than Disney Feature Studios. The animation is done by MRC and Starz Animation, who did Space Chimps and The Veggietales Movie.
hits head against wall WHYYYYYYYY!?
Well, at least it looks better than Alpha and Omega.
Oh boy…I can already tell that this is going to be a trainwreck. We've got yet another sub-par attempt at emulating Pixar, with a lot less creativity involved, and more HILARIOUS POP-CULTURE REFERENCES.
It doesn't look that bad
About 4-5 years ago, it'd be pretty average honestly
So, The Legend of the Guardians is actually a pretty good movie though definitely an odd one. I will say this though, they actually do act like owls rather than just people in owl suits.
"OH! You look like a 'FUN GUI'!"
^That….that did make me chuckle..... And it hurts...
But really, the movie doesn't look as bad as you guys are making it out to be.
Legend of the Guardians
hard to rate because it's genuinely half great and half what the fuuuuck
it reads like a condensed LOTR mixed with Redwall and the Poppy series with owls, but the plot is so goofy
! bad owls using brainwashed owl children to find pieces of metal that mice ate which act like owl-magnets
as a kid movie, it's probably ok, and I think I might have loved it more if I were a lot younger. The animation is indeed glorious (I did get chills at 'THAT MOMENT' after the fire scene, before the climax of the film) and I do love owls, they're like little cats with wings. Yeah, owls aren't capable of wearing armor, but one could argue that that's the fun of it… and I could take them wearing gauntlets, but when
! that one owl bust out with fucking sabres attatched to his talons, i almost died. It really depends on your point of view I think, on what you will allow to be awesome or stupid, and I think that that's where this movie shines as a kid movie because kids are less likely to see swordfighting owls as silly as older people might
thank god the cut out that live action bullshit that Happy Feet did
though THIS SHIT was simply unacceptable
ZYOQrjac2Wk
tldr: I wish I had seen this when I was a kid because it has high fantasy birds of prey rendered pretty beautifully, and i would have eaten it up. today, i think it's kind of silly and not so great, and you probably will too
Though it set it pretty strongly for a sequel and frankly, I hope they do one. I think the studio has an insane amount of potential and I'll probably end up seeing anything they put out
lol. Yeah, using Owl City for the montage was a bit much.
I really liked this movie, but it suffered from the old "cramming three books into one movie" problem.
I would relish seeing more though, if only to see such beautifully animated owls.
Youtube randomly suggested I would like this.
Why this movie, why this scene, why this language, I don't know.
But I figured it was only fair I also randomly share it.

To this day I'm amazed there's no Lola amv to the song "Lola". Granted, thats about crossdressing, but given Bug's history, it seems like it'd be a natural fit.
Just finished watching 'The iron giant'.
(again)
Not many animated films have pulled off such a decent ending in the last few years.
(except toy story 3 of course)

How deliciously random.
Is it bad that no matter how stupid this movie's plot is (and it very much is), I still somewhat enjoy Space Jam?
Also, Bill Murray and Daffy Duck is a team made in heaven.
lol at german michael jordan
Space Jam is firmly entrenched in guilty pleasures territory; by rights, it should be totally terrible, but it's just tongue-in-cheek enough that it avoids that. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination and has a ton of flaws, but there are far worse films to kill time with.
At the very least I felt that Space Jam got the Looney Tunes right. Michael Jordan, er, yeah, but the Looney Tunes characters themselves were great.

Iron Giant used to be one of my most favourite animated movies, behind the Bluth and Disney stuff but ahead of everything else.
I proudly showed it too my Dad and rescinded in horror at how he forecasted all of the movie events before they happened, citing the movie borrowed perhaps too much from the films that influenced it.
Now I don't know what to think.

Eh, your dad's clairvoyant (ask him if the world is really going to end in 2012).
Seriously though, don't let it get you down. Iron Giant is still a fantastic movie. Is it a bit predictable and cliched? Perhaps, but there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. It's a great movie with great writing, wonderful art and it's as heart-warming as a story about a giant metal robot can be.
Also, I'm not really sure which movies "influenced" the Iron Giant.

"I didn't know Dan Akyroid was in the picture!" gets me every time!
I'm not usually fond of sequels, but the iron giant would be an exception to the rule. It has a lot of potential considering how things were left.
I wonder what the likelihood of that happening is though…?
Considering it made like 5 dollars in theaters, Warner Brothers shut down their major animation departments, and Brad Bird's at Pixar now? (Tho actually at the moment he's in some live action thing…)
Fan favorite though it may have become, a sequal is pretty much impossible. At least, a sequal with any semblance of quality or the original staff.
I thought The Iron Giant was alright from what I've seen of it when Cartoon Network ran a 24 hour marathon of it. There were some scenes where I couldn't help but cringe, though, since they were overly sappy. Hogarth got a little annoying at times, too. Still, it managed to get a lot of laughs out of me, especially most of Dean's lines, and "Screw our country! I wanna live!"
I loved this scene.
! General Rogard: That missile is targeted to the Giant's current position! Where's the Giant, Mansley?!
Kent Mansley: (Upon realizing the Giant is right above them)Oooh… We can duck and cover! There's a fallout shelter not far from...
General Rogard: There's no way to survive this, you idiot!
Kent Mansley: You mean we're all going to...
General Rogard: To die, Mansley. For our country.
Kent Mansley: Screw our country! I WANT TO LIVE!
General Rogard: (to the troops)Make sure he stays there, like a good soldier.

Watch from 6:50 onward. The expression on his face when realising where the robot is was priceless.
One thing that always surprised me was that they cast Tim Allen as the villain. I mean, he did a great job, don't get me wrong, but Buzz Lightyear as the asshole of the movie!?
Well, at least he wasn't as bad as Shaquille O'Neal.
And yeah, I too like Space Jam.
Watching Space Jam is simple. Fast forward through all the scenes that do not involve the animated characters in some way or form, and you're set.
Iron Giant was a movie I saw with my sisters after a long day of elementary school. It was a pure surprise. And my God, was it glorious for me as a kid. I was nine.
Looking back, the movie doesn't really disappoint me. The only thing that bothers me is that Jennifer Aniston is the voice of Hogarth's mother. I despise Jennifer Aniston, and yet adored Anne. I don't know, maybe I liked what Jen was in the past.

It was sappy, but I'd rather things be sappy but entertaining, than trying too hard to be funny with a tinge of meaningless sap.
And Dean is the fucking man.

Normally, moments where the good guy seems like a bad guy in the eyes of others are moments that make me cringe and want to stop watching. I could not keep my eyes off that scene.

Lady speaks the truth!
Word on the street is Megamind was surprisingly good, and the biggest complain is it's too similar to a lot of recent films, like Despicable Me.
Anyone here to vouch for it?
The word I'm hearing is that Megamind is "decent." Nothing to write home about, and definitely feeling old after Despicable Me got a foothold before it.

Dreamworks cashing in on a popular movie by making one similar to it? Well I never!
I don't think Megamind is derivative of Despicable Me when both had trailers come out at the same time.
If anything, they're both inspired by The Incredibles.
Megamind sounded way more interesting back when it was just a premise.
! "The badguy accidentally defeats his nemesis when one of his plans accidentally works, and then deals with the repercussions of being a villain without a hero." That had my attention. And the very first trailer even went out of its way to NOT reveal that plot point, it seemed like it was going to be a big twist that the advertising was actually competent enough to dodge.
Of course by now the commercials have given a showing of the humor, and… pretty much the entire plot. Including that twist, and the one that comes later. And it seems to have no real use of the great premise. I don't have much interest in seeing it anymore.

i didn't know that
way to spoil YOU SPOILER
edit: oh man i cant wait for the illusionist to come out
is it going to be a wide release or just select theaters?
It… might not be what its about? That was the press release from like 6 months ago. And also like every single commercial. Sorry, I didn't realize it was at all a secret at this point, since everything has been pretty blatant about it.
Dodge television I guess, the actual commercials are giving away way more than that. Including much bigger spoilers.
i don't have tv
i've been living off of my mom's netflix on my wii by leeching off of some neighbor's wireless
How is Netflix on the Wii by the way? Been thinking of avoiding TV and watching random shows for a while too.
it's pretty good! I can only watch things they have picked out for me and things in my instant Q but i can get on my iphone and do a search and put stuff in the Q manually
i'm watching all of SVU and 30 Rock
