What's that? A character tournament?

That's right!
Arlong Park Forums are hosting a new One Piece Character Tournament!

For those who can't remember the last tournaments, or weren't around for them, the previous winners were Usopp and Franky.

This time around, the tournament is going to be BIGGER

…slightly

How so? Well...

For a start there'll be 128 characters taking part, double the amount of the last one!

It'll have it's own subforum in the OP General section. Making it a lot easier to keep track of all the matches.

Each match will be a 1 on 1 knockout style, with each match lasting 24 hours, except for the final match, which will be 48 hours.

How will it all work?

Well first up, there'll be the nominations, to decide the 128 characters that'll make up the tournament.
Once that's out the way, the pairings for the opening round will be drawn up
and the matches will take place, until we have our new winner!
All of this will take place in the tournament subforum which can be found in the OP General section. You'll also find more details as they are announced, so make sure you check it out.

Details on how and when you can make your nomination will be posted very soon.

The nominations aren't up yet. We're simply announcing the return of the tournament now so that people get ready for it and perhaps to get some quality feedback before we start it. Expect the nominations to be open Friday next week.

128 characters? Holy crap. It seems like we might be including Nojiko before this is over. My nomination, though, has to go towards Chessmarimo.

Don't think we can make nominations yet, judging by the end of the first post, but I'm excited about this! The last time we had one of these was about the time I registered, if I recall correctly.

Also, I have a question: will Franky not be included as he won the previous tournament, or will he be allowed as it's been so long since there was one?

Nope, that will be different this time around. The previous champion will not only be allowed to enter but will already be qualified without an nomination. Same goes for Usopp who had to sit out the last tournament because he was the very first winner. That's why Franky and Usopp are already in and you guys can decide on the other 126 participants.

It's a character popularity tournament we had in the years 2005 and 2006. The tournament itself was pretty popular and many people were disappointed that we had none 2007 and 2008. So we thought to bring it back.

Basically it's a 1 on 1 poll between two nominated characters. The loser is eliminated and the winner advances into the next round. But you'll see how it works when it starts. ;)

Ok guys, it begins. The nominations are now open. The tournament forum is yet not visible to everyone (shouldn't take long though) but you should be able to access it by following this link.

Please make sure to read the rules in order to avoid confusion. That said have fun with the tournament.

What happens if more/less than 128 characters are nominated?

Nothing actually. Sooner or later we will have 128 characters so being patient does the trick here. And who comes first, comes first, so if there should be more then 128 nominations it's just tough luck for numbers 129 (respectively 127 since Usopp and Franky are qualified already) and up.
