It won't stick, so why bother feeling anything but aggravation at how formulaic the events in every fight-centric chapter are? That said, Oga actually showing some emotion other than anger was a nice change of pace…

The last fighting in the arc wasn't formulaic, those guys in that small town played no part in Oga taking them down and forcing the leader to take him to L.A. Straight to the point.
While there be patterns in how fight-centruc chaps it's not the typical formula others lean heavily on.

How has Beelzebub been doing in the rankings lately? I'm just asking because, if the series is actually nearing the end, it doesn't feel particularly natural. (one of the characters even commented a few chapters back that Oga left in the middle of an arc and that he still has at least one other opponent to deal with back at Ishiyama)

Going up and down the TOC for a while now but never a constant bottom 5 so i never felt that it was in danger of getting cancelled.

I dont think its ending any time soon. The next chapter will probably start with Oga realizing he can't leave Beel because of their link - unless that machine allows them to cut their link willingly.

probably the most boring chapter ive seen in a while. Its not like it even sets up the next chapter all that well other than showing whats happening in the human realm and ogas next (of neverending) enemy.
I dont even think the next chapter will make this weeks up either for me.

I found this chapter pretty good and it seems like Furuichi will have to step up, I hope the comment that the old demon dude made about him start playing his role now

Bleh. Just needs to finish the series and start making gag manga, no more action/plot manga please. I was really hoping that the series would stay the way it was post-Behemoth arc (Field Trip, Christmas, Gohan-kun arcs) but this arc has almost ruined the manga for me.

I miss that "slice of life" vibe with delinquents and all those jokes (specially envolving Furuichi).

I don't know why the author decided to go for a full fight-drama mode, during the last months, but it was a bad choice: the manga fell apart, especially because fights don't seem to be his forte. I wouldn't bet on "Beelzebub" being still around in a year from now, so I hope he will learn from his mistakes and treasure them for his next manga, whatever it will be: Tamura is good at writing comedy, not fights…

I've seen this happen quite a few times. Gag manga or slice of life manga suddenly going drama fighting serious manga. I'm starting to think it's the editors saying that gag manga don't sell as much as textbook shonen.

At this point I'm just hoping Tamura will throw in a short comedy arc at the very end as a palate cleanser, so that people won't have to look back on Beelzebub as the single most awful battle manga in Jump.

These latest events are way too rushed for my taste. It reminds me of how Psyren ended. Hope this is not the last arc. I expected something more epic. In a Beelzebub distorted kind of way.
Hope this isn't an interlude into another training arc.

Wow! I hadn't visited for a while but I have to say this place has just become a festering haven for haters, and I don't quite understand what all the hate is about. Are these arcs as filled with comedy as before? No. Has it always been just pure fun and games? No. Have the battles always been 'subpar'? Yes? Although to tell the truth, I enjoy the quick non-drawn out battles so that I don't sit through weeks upon weeks the same useless fighting in a Colosseum that ends in a bunch of named characters getting one-shot KO'd etc.
Beelzebub is still as enjoyable to me as it was before and it is a FAR CRY from the 'worst' battle manga ever. Good god people!

I remember there being quite a lot of negativity going on during the En fighting parts as well. It's refreshing to see really fast paced battles, but Beelzebub is just plain bad at them and sadly these boring fights happen for several dozen chapters. It's not like we don't enjoy it, we just hoped the author would stick to what he does best and makes the series as good as it was again for the final arc.
I am sure we all can agree that Beelzebub is way better than Naruto or Bleach even with all the meh fighting going on at times. -
I don't agree there. Naruto and Bleach are awful but at least they're kinda entertaining in how terrible they are. Beelzebub is just boring and dumb.

Beelzebubs comedy arcs are great, and the #1 reason anyone ever liked this series to begin with.
Beelzebubs action/seriez biznezz arcs are widely agreed to be dull, sloppily executed, and anything but a draw to the series.
So when Beel has been stuck in the latter mode for an inordinate amount of time people start complaining that the series is off track and less enjoyable? Real surprise there.
But anyway…

Im with the Daz on this, though i'd like to point out that the final pillar chapters, all the way up to the end of Behemoth were great. Both for the fighting, and comical aspects of each match up. And really when it comes down to it, the unique form of humor found in some of the fights are what make any of the fights worth reading. Take that away (as we've seen before) and the fights are pretty dull or predictable.
Examples being common ones; like oga planting people in the ground, or revealing his demonic grin before descending on the various wannabe gangsters and henchmen. And this kind of humor is often found in some of the greatest series. (Buu falling asleep during battle, luffy completely ignoring a main protagonist etc)
When you can put the two sides together without taking anything away from either, you'll find gold chapters are born.

this is all just kind of going the same as every other arc. I think there separation was done really poorly because it just threw us straight into the fight with no build up

I think the script was really piss poor. The only person that came close to the mark was Kunieda, who was turned to stone seconds after. (During)
Tamura had a brilliant chance at expanding on Ogas thoughts and relationship with beel, yet skipped the chance completely in an effort to speed up the fight scenario that has been coming. If he doesn't focus on this better during the next chapter, then I'll probably lose a lot of faith in his touch with the series and readers as a whole.

This chapter was dull and rushed. Toujou turned to stone after beating random fodder, Oga reuniting with Beel without any development… It looks like Tamura just wants to finish Beel ASAP, as if it's going to get cancelled.

I would've preferred Furuichi contracting with En for at least a good fight before we just fast forward to Beel returning.
FTR, I've been loving this manga consistently and any of my complaints have never been that critical or have that much of whiny emotion behind it. Some times I think some ppl shouldn't read these mangas weekly, some it'd just be better if you read it in bulk like TPB or omnibus collections.

I personally think the latest chapter lacked intensity, or not as intense as those in the past with regards to similar conflict or so. I mean there's no proper build up, or it is just so so I guess, for the reunion of Beel and Oga and it is like their previous separation is stupid or what. That last page though is cool and all but I must say it is not something new in this manga. And it is gonna be as predictable as ever with Oga destroying Satan. I really like this manga but right now I do not like to expect anything, I will just enjoy it.

Not surprised. It's been aiming for an endgame for awhile. It's a shame it ended drama heavy instead of with the laughs.

Final battle can go on for a loooooooooooooooooooong time. Naruto has been in its final battle for like 5 years. Bleach is in it's final battle too (apparently), and it's never ending. This could be Beel's final arc, but it'll be made up of a bunch of events and shit, so no real worries here.
I'm up all night to get lucky.
