Glad to see finally people are finally realizing Ace is on level 6. Something I've been stating since the beginning of this chapter. As for Luffy getting defeated, works for me. This arc needed to slow down. Luffy was breezing through the floors to fast. This will slow things down a bit while the neoSH recruit Mr.1 and work there way up to level 5 to rescue Luffy. This also gives Luffy time to recon some info from the level 5 prisoners while he thinks of a way to fight Magellan and recruits some more Level 5 prisoners to help him once he gets released.
Now since it looks like Magellan is indeed this arcs final villain. It makes sense Luffy lost. If he wasn't but some miniboss. Then he would've been defeated at level 4. But we actually see this isn't the case. They're going to have a rematch later. Now with Luffy's defeat he has first hand knowledge of how powerful Magellan's poison is and that he can't just tank the poison and defeat him quickly. So now he knows that in the rematch he has to find a way to attack him and somehow overcome the poison.
As for Luffy not using Gear 3rd or combining Gears. You really expected Luffy was going to use his strongest attacks in his first fight with Magellan? Oda is saving that for the rematch.
i still think Ace is in lvl 5..cm on ..when Boa came to visit Ace u saw those prisoners there rite…they dont look tat evil n strong to be placed in lvl 6..so me thinks he is in 5

You didn't help find the raw, so you have no say.

Looks are deceiving. Luffy is a scrawny kid wearing a SH. Does he look like has 300 million berri bounty on his head. We have no idea who the people are in the cells in Ace's level. Since they're on the same floor as a former Schichibuka, a current Schichibukai, and WB's 2nd division commander. To thing they are weak or not evil because they look goofy is just foolishness.
I'm thinking that Ace probably is indeed on Level 5. Despite Ace being in kairoseki cuffs, his DF may be heating up the area (like how Luffy's body still stretches when submerged in water). It could be like on Drum Island where it didn't snow while Ace was there.
Well, there's a good defense for Ace being on Level 5. However, it is possible that the cuffs have nullified even that ability of his.
has Ace's bounty ever mentioned?
I don't believe his bounty has been mentioned, but I believe it's somewhat safe to say it's at least 500M, since that's what Oda stated Enel's bounty would have been.

That doesn't work. It just wasn't snowing. Why wasn't the Long Islands covered in ice when whenever Ao Koji took a step or how come nobody complains about how cold is it when they stand next to him. Simple Answer is they need to activate their powers for it to have an active effect on the envoirnment. In ID, Ace himself will be warm since he is a fireman after all but not the rest of the floors or the other prisoners in the vicinity. The fact you bring this up when he has most likely seastone cuffs on makes it even more ridiculous. He definetly isn't a portable sauna now with the cuffs on.
500? no ways tats a hell lot..maybe 350 or something..maybe tat 1st division guy in wb pirates has 500
That's a good point you have, but for all we know Ao Kiji could have been suppressing that ability or no one bothered to mention it got cold. Also, when you put water in a freezer, does it instantly freeze, or does it freeze over time?
Edit: ~doomsday~, I was just giving you an estimate based on Enel's bounty, since they're both logias.
Ace's bounty? 50 belli, just like Chopper's.
Ace is a cotton candy lover too, don't ya know.

or maybe a there is place in lvl 5 which isnt tat freakin cold to keep important prisoners like Ace n jimbe
Thanks for the raw! ^_^

Yeah that more important place would be level 6. A top secret floor only the guards have access to and a few prisoners hear rumors about its existance. Thanks for the help man.
Or maybe Death-row is different than Lv. 5 or 6. What level were the original goons we saw the Minotaur toss in death row located? No signs of extreme heat or cold in that scene. Level 6 prisoners are scared of Death row and can be man handled by the Minotaur so easily?
Enel's bounty would have been 500 million because he was a genocidal prick with a major superiority complex on top of having hax DF like Kizaru's.
Doubt Ace has attempted to commit Genocide or done much worse than take out a fleet of marines. Rear or even Vice Admiral included. Thought it could still be 500 Mil+ since Luffy is 300 million already after a few months of piracy. Most of the Shichibukai would probably have 500+ million bounties if they hadn't been suspended for like 10(or so) years each.
His aim now is ace against all the opponents waiting there… My point was that since he entered the GL the main opponents were most of the time so tough he barely came out alive from the fight. Crocodile Lucci Moria. He alone wouldn't have been able to survive the fight against them. Remembering that it was a matter of time he will encounter an opponent so strong that his crew won't be able to help him (pacifista sentomarou + kizaru). And now alone against all the guards in ID.... He never had a chance. Magellan pwned him period. If you saw how difficult it was for luffy with his actuall strength level to stop the villains it is normal that he goes down now that he was so dumb and reckless to think he would just break in ID and free Ace without a plan and without new techniques.
The thing is though that Luffy is not alone. Because of the Goldenweek title page story it was clear from the get go that he'll find support there. Not just the BW agents but also Buggy has joined the fun. And lets not forget possible Supernova interaction. True, Luffy might not be there with his crew but everybody who thought that Luffy will be alone with no support at Impel Down is (excuse me) a moron.
So the point stands, Nyons argument didn't mean much IMO considering that the warnings for previous arcs like EL didn't mean much either.

I wouldn't be using the L5 plates as evidence (Original Minotaur scene). I looked at the later chapters pasted chapter 525 and Oda has basically dropped the whole idea of plates being next to prisoner's cell. So using that as evidence as that floor being level 5 is inconclusive. Since it can go either way until we know why Oda dropped the plates for. It could've been they showed Ace supposed level to early and he retconned them out or he decided to drop it since he wanted to redesign level 5 into a freezing level and that was based on a early L5. Or course this goes to say that the L5 stood for level 5. Could've been just prisoner cell markings using the Alphabet.
I cant wait to see Urouge use his Revenge Revenge Fruit more. Must see it! Must!!
arent there like alleast 4 supernovas in lvl 5 (assuming..since it was mentioned 500 pirates were caught..) guess v get to see more supernova action soon
I can't wait to see Apoo use his Music Music Fruit more. Must see it! Must!!
Overrated Apoo is overrated.
ya i wanna see drakes half beast transformation

I must learn to write clear posts. WIth alone i meant without his crew.
Overrated Apoo is overrated.
Apoo, Law and Basil are the most interesting out of the Supernovae. He is in no way overrated.
Though Urouge is pretty damn interesting too, though. He's from Sky Islands wtf? Nobody believes that Skypeia exists yet we have some of it's residents running rampant on the Grand Line getting bounties. I smell a cover up.
WOW.
i honestly didn't expect this chapter THAT good from what i've read and seen in the spoilers! just awesome!
magellan is one hell of a brutal, strong and creepy fighter and incredibly skilled. he might even win against luffy in a fistfight cause i think he has not that much of a problem matching luffy's gear 2nd (don't know 'bout gear 3rd though). his poisen usage is just pure overpowerage, especially in close quaters. i never believed in seeing him beat in this arc but now i know that he has to be kairosekied to even stand a chance inside ID.
all fingers crossed for the rescue team and hanyabal is in a deep pinch when magellan finds out about the bon-chan-switcherooo.
guess we might actually see magellan being fired or demoted at the end of this arc and hanyabal as new chief warden, the intrige is definetly on it's way. one might even expect "a little friendship" yet again in the end :)
I really need to reread Sabaody to understand why people love Law so much. He just seemed generic to me.
About the chapter. It's pretty much obvious Ace is not on level 5.
And we should know it already since the Lv.6 was already mentioned and it wouldn't make much sense to make the story come back to Impel Down later just because the Lv.6 remained unseen.
I must learn to write clear posts. WIth alone i meant without his crew.
Doesn't really change my point though. One of the basic concepts of a shonen manga is that the protagonist is never alone. Even if he goes on a quest all by himself he'll find support from other people. So yeah, even if there's a big difference between the Strawhat crew and non-Strawhat crew support the concept of "you're not fighting alone" still remains.
And as we saw so far, Luffy hasn't been alone from the beginning. First he had help from Hancock and immediately afterwards the first person (Buggy) joined. Yes, Luffy was alone against Magellan. But he was alone against Rucchi too and yet he defeated him.
The help he received at Enies Lobby was a) to get there via Rocket Man, b) to get to the Judicial Tower via Rocket Man and c) to be rescued from drowning and be told the way to the Bridge of Hesitation by Chimney. This help can be connected to Hancocks help to get to and inside Impel Down and Buggy's help through Level 1. So yeah, the point stands that against the big antagonists at EL and ID Luffy's fought all by himself. So I don't see how Nyon's warning should have made it clear that he'll lose against Magellan. He didn't lose against Rucchi albeit everyone's warning was just the same as Nyon's.

I always thought this place was a little strange.

For me it's his DF. One of the most imaginative DFs that Oda has come up with. The other is crew, He has that cool Pengiun guy along with Bepo and his crew seems to have a northern theme. He's very calm and collected as well.

What hooked me to him that during his first appearance he was the only one sitting and analysing. Everyone else was doing at least something (no matter how minor the action actually was).
The other thing was his confrontation with Kid. He clearly offended him and yet Kid did nothing in response even though he was ready to get rid of Apoo for staring at him. That speaks a bit for the respect Kid has because of the rumors he had and it clearly made him interesting for me. I mean he seems generic and yet at the same time to be the most complex character of them all. And such ambigous (sp?) characters I always find fascinating.
Law has a crazy DF. Even Luffy commented on how his DF was the wildest of all 3 of them. He has a bear crew member and he's so badass he flipped Kid the bird.
Oh yeah and he looks like someone who could be related to Gin.
Appo is overrated.

because of Bepo, the finger and the hat perhaps. i'd say his crew makes him interesting, he himself doesn't seem that interesting to me either.
why is everybody blabbering about the supernovas again? chapter seemed fairly different to me…
Apoo, Law and Basil are the most interesting out of the Supernovae. He is in no way overrated.
coughOPINIONcough; No but seriously, he is overrated. He was easily one of the most overly abused with fanboys of all the Supernovae. I will admit that his powers – fairly unique idea -- and design make him worthy of being one of the most interesting, but he was overrated. Personally, I could care less about seeing his powers in action again. I saw enough of them at Saboady, and I have seen the power done before. It loses it's flair shortly after introduction.
Though Urouge is pretty damn interesting too, though.
Honestly I am impressed with how interesting Oda made each and every one of them. Not only do most of them have the type of unique powers that make this series what it is, but the designs and personalities (RL-parellels, attitude, etc) were all really good as well.

[/hide]But the reason I am really looking forward to more from Urouge and Drake – aside from them being my favorite Supernovae -- is because I think that Oda purposely left them somewhat in the dark. Oh, I am presuming they were captured and are in Level 5. A few reasons as to why I have been thinking that they were left in the dark to be expanded upon later:
Well, actually, perhaps I am making something out of nothing. Apoo and Hawkins – hell, everyone outside of Law and Kidd -- have yet to be expanded upon really. In any case, I hope to see them this arc.
why is everybody blabbering about the supernovas again? chapter seemed fairly different to me…
Don't know, perhaps because we're now on the level where some of us expect to see some as prisoners.
While were on the subject of the Supernovas:
Does anyone else think that Urouge fell to the Blue Sea because of something Enel did?
(Destroyed his island perhaps)

i bet they are the same ppl who r crazy over Gin and kaku. Mundane underdogs like them have a huge following. Those who love shanks or dragon are glory hunters

Now that you mention it, I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be the case. He does have the Bilkan wings on his back actually.
if the supernovas are at level 5 will they be there with their entire crews? after all it was mentioned that the marines didn't have the manpower to process all the pirates captured by kizaru. if that was the case then they probably threw the supernovas and crew down to level 5 till they can properly identify all the pirates. that way oda doesn't have to explain how the supernovas got their crews back. if the supernovas are there i wonder if they will end up recruiting some prisoners down at level 5. i don't think kid and law are at impel down but the rest of the supernovas might need an upgrade in crew as they didn't seem all that powerful.
Luffy is going to receive a different treatment than the rest of prisioners since he isn´t a person that has been captured in the outside.
If I have understood this chapter Luffy could be fully conscious but unable to move because the venom that will act at 100% after 24 hours, this is a cruel form of torture and it seems that is the worst one in Impel Down, Luffy unable to move, waiting for his death and with an huge amount of pain around his body.

Good question. While normally there shouldn't be a reason to have prisoners of a lower bounty then 100 millions kept at Level 5, the entire Borsalino incident could have actually lead to just trap them all together. I mean, having week prisoners at Level 5 wouldn't actually do any harm while having strong dudes on the higher levels would be rather problematic. I'm really eager to find out now (if the crews were captured too).

But is he really dying? I mean didn't Magellan plan on interrogating Luffy to find out about how he infiltrated the prison? Wouldn't Magellan then have used not lethal poison?

This is part of the suspense.
Small details that make great a good history.

He said that the poison should kill him. I think that Magellan will give Luffy an antidote to cure as much as he can in order to interrogate him.

I don't think so. Luffy will be rescued before Magellan comes out from his private cell. There must be a key character in lv5. Maybe the okama queen.
Where is the scanlation big bugga….!!!
Thought the 500 pirates were still in the process of being sent to ID after Luffy&Hancock had already departed. Really think all 500 pirates made it to ID, got baptized, then sent to there specified levels before Luffy&Boa made it there?
The SN may actually show later in the arc and take advantage of the prisons weakened defenses. With the big players distracted on the lower levels and nobody to process them but Saldeath, Domino, some minor guards, and whats left of the Bullgori a magician and former marine officer will undoubtebly take advantage.
