I don't know if WANTED! has been suggested yet, though most likely. It has about 6 one-shots Oda did before OP including a western and a sort of samurai one with Ryuuma when he was alive.
Anime Similar to One-piece
-
-
I read some of em but they were nowhere near as awesome as what Oda produces now .
Also how is Slayers similar to OP , exactly ?
-
try MiXiM it's not like OP but it sure is entertaining.
-
GTO, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Dragonball, Fairy Tail, Yu Yu Hakusho, Bakuman, Cowboy Bebop.
-
If I were to say…..It would be something like Gintama or Ranma 1/2, but both lack action, unlike One Piece, Ranma 1/2 has very little serious action, I'm not so sure about Gintama though, I just started watching it.
-
Gintama does have arcs with alot of action (i'm only reading the manga so far though sorry)
-
It depresses me that the only manga/anime people seem to know is shounen.
People, just watch some random harem anime, anything will open the door for you. Shounen is like the McDonald's of anime, there are better burger joints right around the corner.
-
"Good harem anime" - is that some kind of oxymoron?
-
I never said good, I said random.
To someone who's never seen a harem anime before, random = good.
-
This way, a random factor brings variety? I guess, this would be really useful. However, such way will lack the quality just as well.
I mean, even the concept of a harem anime is fan service at it's purest state.
-
If anyone wants a manga that's very One Piece-esque, I'd strongly recommend Toriko.
Though I hear an anime version may be in the works. They already have an OVA after all.
-
-
Well i do sometimes watch random animes like school days and ichigo 100%. School days was some serious weird stuff though.

OP's anime is one of the lowest quality productions I've ever seen. I've had a very belittling opinion of it, since it's below average for standard anime projects. Same goes to Naruto and Bleach too, the funding isn't there.
There's a harem anime every season, just like there's a mecha anime every season. This season is as good as last season.
-

don't watch the Ichigo 100% anime its god awful read the manga instead although you will still be disappointed when you finish reading it
and iv'e read through this thread and i'm shocked how terrible some of the suggestions are i mean black lagoon seriously other than both having pirates how the hell are they similar ,some people also seem to think just because two series a both shonen there similar witch is completely untrue.
true fully there really isn't much like one piece Fairy tail is like one piece executed poorly ,Soul eater mixes good characters with humor and fights but still difrent from one piece ,Gurren lagann has crazy characters and fights with good character development and the same sense of fun as Onepiece and theres the obvious dragonball but really there nothing quite like one piece
but you could always just try another Genre -
If you want a good "anime", then try Fairy Tail. It surpasses the manga in every plausible way and manages to entertain, despite the lackluster source material.

but you could always just try another GenreI believe it doesn't mean it has to be similar to One Piece. Of course originality in story should always be a priority of an author. Perhaps he/she meant to ask any other series that will give the same level of entertainment as One Piece? Now it depends on what you enjoy in One Piece. But he/she specifically mentioned he/she enjoys funny scenes the most so these series came to mind.
Now I realized how long this thread has been lol. But there are plenty of funny animes that are not under OP's genre but gives me the same entertainment coz it's just pure funny and fun to watch. But haven't found any thing like One Piece in terms of story, characters and world. I have yet to try Gintama… but it seems so episodic that it turns me off as I love to watch a series with a bigger plot especially if it's a series that has numerous episodes (beyond 50) ... Soul Eater, I havent seen so maybe I should try it.
Anyways, I look forward to suggestions! XD
I've tried Reborn, I've seen Naruto and Bleach (They started good, in fact I saw them prior to seeing One Piece... but they just can't keep the quality) ... Other mangas I'm reserving and waiting for their animes. XD

"Good harem anime" - is that some kind of oxymoron?
The only "good" Harem anime is Tenchi Muyo. It was one of my first harem animes and was top quality back in its day (I'm talking about the OAV, not Tokyo or Universe, although Universe was decent too. I didn't like Tokyo).
-
"Good harem anime" - is that some kind of oxymoron?
nope: ah! my goddess.
probably my favorite manga of all time, and it's technically a harem/bishoujo seinen series.i think most harem is crap, but i think something like 90% of shonen is crap, too, dude.

probably it's all about finding the right series
-
Nadia: the secret of blue water.
Like One piece, there is the adventure spirit, character development, plot twist, bad ass character, epic finale.
-

i have honestly never read/watched a seinen series, i do know what they are like, and the nature of them. (cowboy beebop does count right?)
i just mostly stick to shonen for the most part.

Cowboy Bebop is not seinen. (at least I don't think so) If you want to read some Blade of the Immortal, Vagabond and Berserk are tops imo.
They are shounen with more mature nature and some what more realistic.

But the point is, those titles are so old and classic, most other stuff is derived from them, which is the crux of what I've been saying - the conventions developed by anime like Tenchi and AMG are seen in modern harem, so watching one is like watching them all. It's not high quality, not low quality, it's same quality.
@Ao:
i think most harem is crap, but i think something like 90% of shonen is crap, too, dude.
This is a very true statement. I'm amazed, but I agree.
-
The question has to be posted because I'm finding discrepancies between the title and the actual suggested content.
Has this just turned into some general recommendation thread, or are people really comparing One Piece to psychological thrillers and other, vastly different works
-
The former I believe.
-

seinen series tend to be more realistic and less action-oriented.
-
Seinen is a demographic, not a genre.
Different demographics tend to have different approaches to the same genres, such as if you compare a shonen action series to a seinen action series. They likewise tend to have staples that stick to the demographics.
BUT even then, when it comes down to it at heart, the demographic is just the magazine it runs in and it doesn't always ring true that genres under a demographic consistently have a type of "feel".
If anything, seinen series do tend to be the most diverse, however, but this is because the magazines' target audiences tend to be more into comics and accepting of things other magazines would not be into.
-
Is that a manga too?
It is mainly an anime. It was made by the creators of Evangelion.
However, Nadia is a lot more enjoyable than Evangelion (everyone just dies).
Note: there are fillers in the middle of the series.

It's a tug-of-war between the two.

Contrary to what Zephos and I discussed, most sites categorize Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind as shounen.
http://mangahelpers.com/m/nausicaa
Though, I never see an official demographic for it. Which mean, uh, trust your own sense. -
on another relevant side note… naruto falls into the same genre as one piece...
but its pretty mediocre, it has a decent fan base and isnt terrible, so its worth giving a shot.
Readies flame shields
@Monkey:
Naruto is a good manga, ok it is not shit.
there is no anime similiar to one piece cause it's best
Why does this thread have such blatant lies.
-
A lot of people only read manga that's current, so when you're comparing Naruto to other manga still in serial, that makes it look significantly less bad than if you compare it to previous generations of shounen manga.
It's a mediocre title, but like the SW prequels, is still watchable. It's not so horrendous that when you put it out of sight, it's out of mind.
-
Eden of the East is a good series if you enjoyed GITS: SAC. I'll also give ONE more Harem series credit, and that's El Hazard: The Alternate World, but only because Jinnai makes the show amazing.
-
A lot of people only read manga that's current
That's a big problem right here.
Also, why do most of you recommend only Shounen? I find Berserk to have a similar good world-building, and to a lesser extent even Shin Angyo Onshi. And then there's Übel Blatt, Blade of the Immortal, Gunnm and Vagabond. That's actually one of the selling points of Seinen for me, good characterization and world-building.
-
I'll recommend you go watch michiko to hatchin, it's really good. Also try xam'd the lost memories. Eureka seven? escaflowne? Bastard!!
-
Lucifer and the Biscuit hammer read it now
-
Ummmmmmmmm Maybe U should try Beelzebub it's weird cuz a high school guy named Oga is caring for a baby for some reason. It's a new anime so there's a little episodes.Hope this helped!
-
Also, why do most of you recommend only Shounen?
It's a function of volume and access.
Most of the users on this forum now don't know the old methods of getting manga from IRC and torrents and whatnot (even DD's), they're grown up on massive manga portals of easy access. Most of the manga on said portals is shounen because shounen is easily translated and is the most plentiful manga out there.
It's comparable in my mind to people only eating cows, pigs and chickens when other more exotic meats exists, but are harder to get and aren't exactly appealing when people have gotten used to the same old.
Few people on this forum are willing to take chances. I find that a crippling character flaw but w/e as long as they're happy ignorance is bliss, right??
-
Granted I do follow shounen a lot, though I have been meaning to catch up to Bartender once I find it again.
-
So I was looking thru this since I caught up to One Piece. I already read hunter x hunter, watched yu yu hakusho, and read naruto, bleach, dbz, etc. Im watching zatch bell, that's a good show, and I guess I'm going to start fairy tail and I just started toriko about 4 days ago, but that's the only real anime/manga that I have heard from this thread. Reborn got banned from the internet cuz the guys at funimation were tools, but is there anything else besides fairy tail.
Also I said it up there, but I'll say it again in case people didnt see it, I recommend zatch bell.
-
I find it kinda weird how some people are criticising manga and anime for artistic skill,
when this is a One Piece forum.
And in my opinion, One Piece´s art is good, I mean, Eiichiro Oda clearly has a huuge creative talent and everything that comes with it,
but, I dunno, I guess in most people´s opinion (though not mine) One Piece´s drawing is not the best out there.Other than that, I haven´t much else to say.
I, myself looked at this forum hoping for some good anime to watch also. But I haven´t been succesful yet. -
Eureka seven?
This anime is fucking win. And I fucking love it. ( watching it )
For those who watched it this pic ( well it's not a spoiler but those who didn't won't get it xD

I'm willing to try out Seinen. I'm very open minded. I've already finished Berserk (a while ago actually) and I do plan on reading Vagabond, Akira, Monster and various other Seinens. Although I do read much more Shonen, I will admit. Shonen manga just make me feel better after I've had a bad day at school. Most Seinen don't do that, but I'll still give them a chance.
Edit: And yeah I watched some of Eureka 7 and what I watched was perfectly fine, it made me want to watch more, although I haven't gotten to it yet, but I intend to finish it soon enough.

Gintama and Soul Eater are great. Gintama is a hilariously funny anime, while Soul Eater has a sort of dark humor to it. I recommend both, since as a One Piece fan, I found these highly enjoyable, although there are some differences, they're both generally light-hearted.
If you want female characters, I once again recommend Soul Eater. Out of the seven main characters, four are feamle o_O
I'd say go to Fairy Tail for females. Maka doesn't come off as female-ish to me. (again, this is a personal reference) Fairy Tail has more females, and I think Mashima can draw WAY hotter girls than Oda.
And although they are very similar, FT is more shounen than OP. OP has more political matters tied to it than FT.

Yeah no.
