I don't know why Reborn wants Hibari to stay in the competition. Hibari's only reason for competing is so he can beat up Tsuna's team, from what I recall. It would be much easier to sit back, let Hibari get eliminated, and have one less antagonistic "team" to worry about. (though given that Reborn and Tsuna have basically alienated every single remaining team, that doesn't narrow it down much)
Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion

-
! Lol @ Vindice. I'm glad they showed up. Tsuna only stops acting stupid when there's a genuine threat and I was getting tired of him.
-
! …And here I thought Shimon wouldn't be eliminated because they weren't involved in this round whatsoever. They were the only team that I was interested in, really, because they were the only team that I figured would get some character development over the course of this arc (plus, it would give them a chance to make up for their disastrous performance in the previous arc). Seriously, what is it with the author randomly eliminating potentially interesting characters? (Ryohei, all of the Varia except for Xanxus, the present-day versions of the Funeral Wreaths, and now all of Shimon)
! EDIT: Assuming, that is, that the Shimon team, rather than Hibari, was the second team to be eliminated that Uni talked about.
! EDIT 2: Turns out that, for now, Shimon's still in this, and Hibari broke his own watch for no apparent reason. Still, in spite of the potentially worst part being mitigated, the chapter was still okay at best. -
Good Xanxus vs Hibari until Hibari broke his own watch. Poor Fon. He could've waited for the next battle time. Sorry to see Shimon become new Big Bad fodder. I really wanted to see more fights between former Big Bigs but now its gonna be all about new threat.
-
Ugh…Hibari is dumb. Well that at least ended better than I thought it would. I keep forgetting about Shimon lol. Uber underdogs.
-
Yeah, didn't like Hibari breaking his watch, mostly because it sucks for Fon. But Fon's last expression seemed like he already made peace with it. I am genuinely surprised that it's Fon and Uni out this round. My prediction was Skull and Mammon.
It was kind of sweet that the Varia all tackled Xanxus because they cared about Mammon.
My completely unfounded predictions next round:
Team Skull out, defeated by the 8th arcobaleno team and Team Colonello (free for all).
Team Verde out, defeated by Team Reborn and Team Mammon (free for all)Hibari will join Team Reborn just so he can keep fighting.
We'll see Verde's uncursed form (have no guesses about what he can do). -
I thought that once your watch was broken you were out permanetly in these fights? So that Hibari was out for good.
-
I'll have to go back and see if they explicitly said that.
EDIT: You're probably right. One translation says "you're disqualified from being a representative" though considering how vague some of the rules are that could mean you're only disqualified from being that particular arcobaleno's representative. I'm just really surprised Hibari is out so soon and it's known that Reborn wants to fill up those extra spaces on his team.
-
I have new respect for Hibari and Xanxus lol. A real man makes his own rules and fights when he wants xD. This chapter just reconfirms it: Xanxus and Hibari are badass mofos.
-
We'll see Verde's uncursed form (have no guesses about what he can do).
In the Anime he used a move that shot lightning from his body and can hit multiple opponents, although we later found out it was just a robot doing it, although the real Verde probably has something lightning related, considering he's the Lightning Arcobaleno.

I'm hoping it's something fairly creative, kind of like how Skull's ability is focused on defense. I'll be happy if it has something to do with his intellect.

Is it really? I just thought he could take a beating since he's a stuntman.
-
Well Since Verde is a Scientist and Is a Lighting type than his most likely going to have something to do with electricity and inventions, or both of them combined. that pretty much is obvious. Will he have Physical Fighting Capability is the real question. I think he will Control others somehow with his inventions or just make Crazy ass Weapons..
-
Is it really? I just thought he could take a beating since he's a stuntman.
He was most known for cheating death/being nearly invulnerable, which is why he was chosen as an arcobaleno in the first place. He might have some secondary offensive skills, like that bulk up move we haven't seen in forever, but it wouldn't be the main reason he's part of the group.
Reborn and Colonello have abilities related to their professions too; they just happen to be related to fighting ability.
-
Where's the KHR chapter this week?
-
Always thought Verde would pilot a mech or something in his original form. Guess Reborn is on break this week.
-
I don't think so - Manga Stream has a summary for this week's chapter, with pictures. I guess scanlations are just later than usual.
Speaking of which, I'm not a huge fan of what's in that summary, for similar reasons to last week.
-
Pics are out just taking a long time to finish. Chapter is worth it just for the fact that
! Bermuda smacks the shit out of Skull.
-
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/katekyo_hitman_reborn/v32/c376/1.html
Finally have a chapter somewhere.
-
Great chapter, but did Skull just get killed? The blow seemed to go out from either side of his head and he was bleeding pretty badly.
-
Daaaaamn. Skull got cracked. No idea how he can survive that.
Looking forword to Bermuda's present please. -
I really hope Skull maintains his durability in his baby form because I've come to like him in this arc. I'm betting he's not dead. It's hard to even tell what kind of attack Skull got hit with and anything can be fudged with Shonen logic.
But wow, what a poor showing by Team Skull. Their only purpose this arc was to get a full set of representative watches stolen from them. And with Byakuran getting hammered… Kind of funny that the most recent Big Bads are taking the worst beating.
-
"That's not like Hibari-san at all… except it really is just like him!!"
On one hand, I want to punch Tsuna in the face for saying the most inane thing I've read all week, but on the other hand, since Reborn characters make arbitrary decisions and handicap themselves for no reason, or sometimes act in the exact opposite manner of their characterization, I guess I can't really fault him. Why the hell DID Hibari do that, anyway? And what happens when he breaks Xanxus' watch during non-battle time? Will any of this get explained?
fuck it, there's a baby in bandages named Bermuda Von Vichtenstien, that's good enough for me.
-
Bermuda Von Vichtenstien that's a powerful name for me! like Wolfgang Krauser xDD If one day i got a child i will put him these names xDDDD

How is this series?
A friend and myself are going to begin watching the anime today and I wanted to get some impressions. I also have a few questions, these being:
1. Does REBORN! have a fair amount of traveling around in it? The main character and his group going from place to place? I LOVE this aspect–in not only shonen--in any manga/anime that utilizes it (i.e. One Piece). (It's about...25% the reason I read/watch a series and it "sticks").
2. How are the characters (how diverse are they)? One Piece has a--in my opinion--outstanding cast of characters. Both main characters and secondary characters. Do the characters have interesting stories attached to them? (I LOVE a somewhat diverse cast of interesting characters in my manga/anime, about 25% the reason I read/watch a series and it "sticks").
3. Speaking of story, just how good is the overall storyline of REBORN! ? How's the pacing of the series (fast or slow)? (Story is about...40% the reason I read/watch a series and it "sticks").
4. How's the action of REBORN!, is it action-packed? I don't expect action all the time, but, when action sequences come I expect them to be somewhat exciting. Also, how often do action sequences happen in the series? And lastly, how's the comedy of the series? How does it compare to other shonen (like One Piece and Fairy Tail)? (Action/comedy is about 10% the reason I read/watch a series and it "sticks").
Thanks!

It's not overly bad but it isn't amazing it's just alright it's on my top 20 (not in the top 10 though). Just a tip though if you are going to watch the anime it finishes before the manga (and the manga isn't finished yet.) just so you know.
Awnser to Q. 1: Not really they only really travel twice in the entire series (that I can remember) it otherwise stays within the main characters city.
Answer to Q. 2: I believe the characters are pretty diverse…but it's probably a varied opinion.
Answer to Q. 3: It's steady in my opinion.
Answer to Q. 4: In the beginning it's more comedic and about introducing characters and then it gets more serious and action oriented (but still has comedy elements).
But this is my opinion.

There's no way for the anime to continue past episode 203? It's completely concluded?

1. Not much traveling, they stick pretty much to their initial city.
2. A lot of the characters have a similar face. I don't find them diverse in design. Personality wise there are a few group types it seems like. A lot of dimwitted characters, very loud and violent ones, smart and violent ones, and cowards.
3. The story is odd, I wouldn't say it's great, and I'm not sure about the anime, but the manga took forever to get out of the stand alone comedy episodes, like 60 chapters or so before we get to relevant plot. The plus is that at least in the anime when they start introducing the stronger combat I feel it makes more sense. Vague I know but I'm not sure if what I could elaborate on more would be spoiler or not.
4. I didn't get all the way through it, I sorta lost interest in the anime itself, part of that was the voice acting was grating for me. I don't feel that the comedy is stellar since a lot of it revolves around Tsuna being abused by Reborn via "training." And Tsuna is in my opinion very lame for a Shonen lead.

At the moment the anime is concluded but the reason for that is they caught up to the manga. I imagine (much like gintama and maybe even bleach) that once the manga gets far enough or finishes the anime will restart

I'm pretty sure the anime is more than far enough by now.

Reborn! is an awful shonen-ai that wants to be a maho shoujo when it grows up.
It is another generic Shonen Jump series starring an incompetent protagonist that reacts to the plot happening around him and a pretty big cast of supporting characters that can be defined as fujoshi bait. Most of the characters are male, and the few females are handled even worse than their counterparts in Naruto. For a series written by a woman, Reborn is heavily chauvinistic. Every arc deals with a different plot, so if by travelling you mean "changing backgrounds now and then", the answer is yes.
If you are going to read/watch it, you do it only because of the action, character interaction and because you don't have anything better to do.
-
I'm pretty sure the anime is more than far enough by now.
not if they plan on not stopping the series again. there's only been 1 arc in between where the anime left off and where the manga is currently and it wasn't a particularly long arc

1. No. There is no adventure, and any of the places they go are so similar as to not matter.
2. There are only a handful of likable characters in the whole cast, though there used to be more. But the fact is, everyone acts like either a pompous ass (despite their lousy win/loss record), a "hot-blooded" idiot (which comes off as obnoxious), a sociopathic badass (yet somehow remains charismatic because Women apparently love abusive men?), or a pussy-ass bitch (sadly, our main character falls under this category). The designs center around "bishie eyes and wrinkled clothes", with very little actual permutations.
3. Despite being ostensibly about the Mafia, there is very little emphasis on any sort of storyline you would recognize from a gangster movie. There are no deals that you can't refuse, no emphasis on loyalty above your personal life, no inglorious ends, no corruption, and it all ends up pretty gay, in the actual sense.
4. In the manga, the action is so messily drawn and the art so cluttered and filled with lazer beams that it sucks. I bet the anime is better about this, but I don't remember any particularly good choreography or fight pacing from any of the fights, except for the Varia arc. That was neat. The comedy is usually horrendous.
Let me put it this way: if it weren't for Naruto and Bleach, this would be the worst manga in Jump.
as a counter-point, it starts weak, then gets actually pretty good, before falling into the awful mess it is in now. And as I recall, the anime covers those first two eras, so it might be pretty good. Take all my previous statements, and think of them as only 25% as bad as I make it sound. That's how Reborn is at its best.
-

Okay, I laughed pretty hard.
#3 is a pretty big gripe I have with this series, most of the struggles have nothing to do with any mafia related activities.
-
Part of the problem I think is that it's a high school…middle school? Setting so the characters are all posturing without too much of a way to back it up without being completely irritating. Smug at 14-16 is always obnoxious. I'm not even sure how old the Varia are supposed to be, but at least I feel they are the least aggravating because they aren't just "playing around' or trying to have a double life. How many chapters did we go through of Yamamoto thinking that all those fights and weird scenarios we were going through were them just playing a game?
I'm not usually one to say something is "gay" because I don't like that term how it gets used...but this series really does feel like a borderline shonen-ai. Maybe if everyone didn't have the huge eyes stylish clothing and general if I put a dress on this character nobody would notice design. I like bishies characters but I think it's too much for a series about a subject that's generally a more musculine genere.
Sorta a side gripe, but damn I hate when characters just say someone's name out of the blue. I've never seen anyone in real life yell out someone's name and then not say anything after like that's a good way to have a conversation. I just really want the character that had his name said to turn and stare at the person till they continue. "Yes? You have my attention...Say something!" Tsuna does this so much, I just really thought after a year or so hanging out with everyone he'd be less surprised to see people show up again. He's so Orihime...ugh.

Chapter out
Holy crap Kyoko still exists I'm surprised. lol
In all seriousness I have a feeling this will go in three ways the first way the way it seems to be going now the Arcobaleno battle is going to be null because of Vindice's actions outside the match with one team against one member of vindice. The second way is the Arcobaleno battle will continue and it will end with a battle between Team Vindice and Team Vongola as the final two teams. Third way (and more unlikely way) is battle will continue and Vindice will win and Bermuda will be lifted of the curse and Vongola and Vindice fight afterwards in a battle.
-
I'm glad they remembered Chrome. I know I forgot about her lol. Also I think that if doctors noticed someone living without organs, there would be a never ending stream of them flooding the place for such a weird occurance. House would totally be all up in there.
I'll admit it, the Vindice have me curious about their motives. Things are picking up it seems.
-
Is Chrome… about to do something?
Chrome is about to do something?!
-
I think she will enter the tournament just to be saved. And I am still waiting for Lambo, he is a badass cow.

She'll probably fail to beat the first person she runs into and get bailed out by Mukuro. As usual.
-
I'm hoping she astral projects herself to save Mukuro as a bit of twist for once.
-

Didn't mukuro ditch her?
-
Mukuro tends to do whatever the plot requires at the moment, regardless of past actions.
-
It certainly wouldn't hurt to characterize Chrome outside of Mukuro.
-
Is there a chapter this week?
-
Chapter up on mangafox.
-
Well looks like skull is alive, an undead body? Well a biker zombies baby is intresting to say the least.
Reborn's reason for joining the battle was a let down, shows that Reborn is a crazy teachter though but a fairy boring chapter overall
-
Wow, I actually enjoyed the chapter. I really liked Reborn's face by the end.

Vol 38:
It's OK. I like the orange background and the rainbow shadows.
