Would people think the anime of late in this last cour or so has been overall really strong?
Aside from 853(which was expectedly dreadful), things seem to be really holding themselves together, and we've at least gotten one nice piece of animation per episode. Combine that with Ichikawa's strong supervision on every episode, and I feel things have really been coming together for this arc quite nicely.
What do other people think of the current state of the anime?
-
Anime is shit as always, animators are lazy and my dream is that madhouse will do one piece.
-
I think the anime has been significantly better since Sanji vs Luffy. It still has it's bad moments, but its way more consistent than Dressrosa was. WCI lends itself really well to implied filler, with how much Oda off screened in the manga. I think this is the best the anime has been in years
-
It’s definitely gotten as whole much better than it had been in the past. No doubt about that. I’ve been enjoying it a whole ton lately, and that is definitely a good thing

Echoing the comments here, but if there's one thing that I would change (within reason) it would be to see some more fresh faces on the show here and there outside of the usual veteran core. Don't get me wrong, Tomita, Mitsui, Hisada, etc. are doing great work, but new blood is always appreciated. While people bag on Dressrosa a lot one thing it did undeniably right was having a number of fresh faces: Takeshi Nishino was a regular for 3/4s of the run, Ito became an animation director alongside Isamu Takara (:(), Kodai Watanabe made an unexpected and great sequence with Rebecca and Diamante, Sato was allowed to do something that wasn't a One Piece movie, and even Takashi Kojima and Hokuto Sakiyama (who was completely and utterly wasted - something that I will never let Toei live down). Recently we've had Yong-ce Tu making waves and Hisada and stepping their games up after focusing more on key animation and I'd like to see more of that since Toei has a lot of great talent at its disposal.
-
Yeah, I definitely agree with Crossword on this one. While I think the staff are doing a good job of evenly spreading out good animators on episodes, I feel like more talented new faces to the franchise would be welcome. I think the most recent of which was a TAP staff member in Dennis Cablao.

Anyway, considering the finale to the fight being shown at JASF, how do people think the staff will be handling the scenes created there, and who do they think is likely to animate it? By that I mean, do people think the regular staff will be working on it alongside their own episodes, or do people think a freelancer outside the series is going to step in for it.

Tu:
" In One Piece #855 I animated some scenes right after the Germa part. I was about to attend another episode, so this time I only animated 28 cuts. I was impressed by the animation director Mr. Ito's corrections, and at first I thought they were corrected by the CAD Mr. Ichikawa. "
-
How people been feeling about Kazuya Hisada's output this arc?
I think I enjoyed his key animation on episodes like 824 and 850, which brings up the question would people prefer if he simply remained a key animator as opposed to an animation director?

Is this a an anime mistake… Or am I simply dumb.
Int he scene where Sanji startes spinning for Concasse to crash the table it looks like he soins in the opposite direction... Somehow it makes no sense

Ah sheeit.
! That's the Pound episode isn't it? They got a top director to handle that one and it'll be great to finally have Isochi and Guts back. 861's going to be the Sulong Carrot episode, and that's the one I'm hoping they really pull off well given how that chapter took everyone by surprise.
-
You're right. 860 will be the Way of Life episode.
-
Okay, either I can't count or they're still doing weird chimera episodes after 856 cleanly ended chapter 883. Good staff anyway!

Didn't 856 also cover the first page or so of chapter 884?(Sorry, if I misunderstood)

It was like two panels at most.

It was like two panels at most.
Yeah they only completely adapted the first page of 884, but I think they rearranged some of it for the sake of flow.

The director's pretty good but Shimanuki isn't and was part of the bullet that I was really hoping we'd dodge with this episode. HOWEVER! Those in the know have said that we have nothing to worry about regarding that episode so it sounds like the pivotal moments will be handled well and Sato's directing and staff will make up for Shimanuki's weaknesses. They better be at least.
It's the episode after that that has the potential to be the stinker of the batch. Takagi has a history of turning out good episodes when he has good staff working with him, but with Ueda at the helm I'm expecting the episode to be outsourced to TAP and while they can provide quality Ueda's not the man to drive them to it.
! Katsumi Tokoro's going two-for-two with character deaths this arc.

OMG the hype is real!!
The Snakeman episode is probably gonna be the best animated episode of the entirety of the WCI arc (maybe even of the post timeskip).
-
Why only even post timeskip, you are one of those people who think animation post timeskip is worse? :D
-
Studio GUTS will work and help on an episode for DEC 2018 according to their account .

Well now we know where Isamu Takara disappeared to for all this time - he's been working on the Broly movie as a "sub Character Designer".

That certainly got an oof out of me.
I wonder if he'll stick with the series as the character designer for a TV series perhaps?
(Personally hoping he just comes back to One Piece). -
I certainly hope he comes back but sadly history hasn't been on our side WRT One Piece's stars (with Ishizuka being the exception that proves the rule).
-
I kind of imagine that Takara will be the Suzuki Hirofumi to Shintani's Nishio Tetsuya and will remain with Dragon Ball for a while.

A few people discovered the twitter account of the animation supervisor for 867, Kimitaka Ito. When getting in contact with him, they confirmed a few of his scenes, and he also asked for his name to be translated as Hirotaka Ito as opposed to Kimitaka Ito. Just for reference.

One Piece anime upcoming staff list:

Next staff batch:
872: Ueda/Kitazaki
873: Ito/Yokoyama (likely Fukumoto too as per recent precedent)
874: Ueda/Takagi
875: Komaki/DeguchiKomaki on episode 875/chapter 900 is a big "Yay!" because Deguchi on that one would be a big "Yikes!" otherwise. I wonder who the staff would be for 877, the arc finale? I would personally love Fukazawa and Ichikawa closing the arc out themselves.
