Hunter X Hunter is my favorite series, shortly followed by One Piece. Although yes, this does sort of suck. For me its not bad, considering after one of the series ends for the 10 weeks, I can look forward to the next series. I'll deal with it.

Assuming it's true, I doubt they'd remove it if it wasn't all that popular unless it's below what they'd expect for a series that will be cancelled. Though putting it on hiatus like Hunter x Hunter likely won't affect it's volume sales if Hunter x Hunter itself is any indication.

Ok I just read the last bunch of pages about this issue. It says according to the translation that "while Togashi is back it will go the ten week cycle".
Here is something that is sort of important to consider. I have never read HxH and know zero about it. For those who have been reading it, do you think the series is coming to a conclusion? I cannot imagine that a series with such an erratic schedule would continue through an entire next continuing set of arcs. (Now having said that I understand Togashi's reputation of getting what he wants etc). Is the HxH story in a place where it could wrap up after the current arc? From what I understand the current arc has been going through a long time.
I ask this because think about it this way. Maybe, this is a one time thing. Maybe they want to get the series over with and Oda perhaps wants a break. The man is a freaking hard worker. However, he could not have chosen a worst time for this as the current arc is going quite slowely.
It would be a mixed blessing for the anime though giving it plenty of time to finish up TB and possibly animate the next arc along with some fillers.
If it does go into a 10 on 10 off schedule I feel that it would be a huge mistake. As far as some folks are concerned it looks like its possible that Bleach and Naruto may be heading towards their end game. Of course the joy of any long running manga is that it can keep going once a storyline is over. Yet with those two it just seems to me in my opinion to be wrapping up.
I think we should avoid panicking for now because its pointless. However, if it is a shift thing that is permanent for the near future my above thoughts on Naruto/Bleach might make it possible for it to become weekly again.

At Cp9 Agent, I really doubt Hunter X Hunter is almost over. They haven't even beaten any of the Royal Guards yet, or the King for that matter. Not to mention, another arc for the finishing off of the Spider Troupe, another for maybe Hisoka vs. Gon and also Gin has to be found too. Don't expect it to end for atleast a few more years.

Where did this attitude come from that suggests companies are this self-sufficient entity that pumps out products while simply absorbing money.

I need paper towels.
I go to the store. I pay for a roll of paper towels. I pay more money for the paper towels than they cost to make. That way the amount I pay gets broken down into various parts. Some go to pay the store which purchased the product to put on it's shelves. Out of that comes the money to pay the salary of the cashier, the manager and the utility fees of the store I bought it from.
Next X amount goes to the company which made the paper towels. They use this to pay a number of things:
Employees
Managers
Researchers
Utilities
Construction
Production
etc.Where did they get the money to do all that from?
Me.
Without me. Without my money, they're fucked. They're NOT making a profit.
But, since these paper towels kick ass at absorbing, I happily buy them
On one dark day though, they start selling half a roll at the same price. Why? Well, because they can. Nothing has changed within the industry to demand such a change, they just can.
As a consumer, the person whose money goes to pay all those people, I can say, well, maybe I'll only buy a roll half as often as I used to. Well that's absolutely fine because they're selling it for the same price, yet only producing half the original product.
But if I were to say, "You know what? Fuck you, I don't need to pay for that.", and switched to another brand, well suddenly the store isn't selling the product.
The store wants to sell the product because if they don't, well it just sits there and then the store can't pay its employees. It also can't pay its utilities and it certainly can't make a profit. So then the store says to the company, "Fuck you, your product doesn't sell, you can have it."
Then the company stops getting orders for paper towels.
All because they decided to be dicks and make an inferior product.
Well since a large company means the livelihood of hundreds maybe thousands of people, they'd be pretty thick if they didn't go back to selling whole rolls again.
And all because of the consumer.
We do dictate what businesses do. Because they're on OUR payroll.
When you start thinking they aren't and you want to reward them for making shitty choices that screw us over, it will teach them that they can do it again, and again and they'll still make money off of us.
Which is why I won't pat Shueisha on the ass for denying me something that should be a given.

The thing is, I think the HxH fans rise up the Jump sales a lot in the months HxH is being published, and the editors may think this will happen with OP fans too, that they would rather buy 20 issues a year then 52, keeping the sales at a higher rate all the year...Which can be true, but let's hope it's not.....or else this will be a final decision...

I've read all 200+ chaps of HXH and it would be impossible to end it after this arc. To be realistic with the way the pacing has gone from chap to chap if this manga was weekly this arc wouldn't end for atleast a year and a half and that is at the least. I'm not sure about what ppl have been saying about Togashi getting what he wants but the fact that he has allegedly been plagued with a sickness and goes on these undetermined hiatuses while HXH has not been canceled says a lot.
I can see why you asked tho but HXH ending anytime soon is not the case. Even though you haven't read it just to list what has to be completed and other thuings that should happen:
Gon still hasn't found his father or become a great hunter, Killua still hasn't found his purpose in life, Kurapika still hasn't killed all of the Genei Ryodan, the Genei Ryodan and their leaderChrollo Lucilfer still haven't achieved w/e goals they were after, Leorio hasn't even been touched on, there's atleast another couple dozen of hunters left to be met, etc.So as you can see if HXH did not go on so many hiatuses it'd be just as long as OP. This is why I would lik to know how long this rotation will be going on.

I hope we get a clarification soon because I feel like punching a HxH fan in the face. -_- (No, no, I'm not gonna do it for real, HxH fans aren't the one to blame etc.) If it's really 10-week OP, 10-week HxH, perhaps the only thing that might influence JUMP would be OP fans in Japan and worldwide stop buying JUMP when there's no OP. I would do that, except that'd make no difference because I never buy JUMP anyway, just the tanko.

Well I suppose in a way this would be a reason for me to start reading HxH so no more spoilers please :) I guess the only thing to do now is just to wait for the clarification of the announcement and to see what it holds.
Now onto another question I did have, can someone explain to me how Jump does its releases? I've only picked up one or two of the American versions and I noticed that they had different series appearing at a time. From what I've seen the Japanese Jump works the same but aside from an artist needing to take some time off, why is it that they alternate series?

Perhaps Shueisha is just trying to kill the interest of the online communities where its product (JUMP comics, etc.) is illegally uploaded and freely distributed? I am curious as to what the figures are for Weekly Losses For JUMP Sales In Japan. If the losses are high enough, and arresting people isn't working for them, then they will try something else, even if the only way to get people to stop stealing the golden eggs is to give the goose a hysterectomy.
I like Greg's idea of boycotting JUMP, but I think a letter-writing campaign to Shueisha to go along with the boycott would get more results. Ultimately, what Skarlath said is true: If people stop buying JUMP, Shueisha is more likely to conclude that people do not like JUMP- they just won't know why people suddenly stop liking JUMP. Unless, people tell them why they don't like JUMP.
