Since there is the least favorite thread going and i didn't see this anywhere, lets start the MOST favourite arc thread, as for me, it would have to be the first part of water 7, you know, before they go to enies lobby, there were so many unexpected twists in it, it kept me interested, but enough about me, tell me what YOU think.
Favorite Arc/Saga
-
-
Well, even though the arc isn't finished yet, I'm really liking the Shabondy arc
Also liked Thriller Bark and Water 7 (not the Enies Lobby part) a lot -
Shambody Arc, Thriller Bark (anime sucks), Water 7 Arc (all of it including ennies lobby), Skypeia after survival game. Pretty much every arc except those in East Blue, i like em but there not my favorite.
But since you said favorite:
I think ill have to go with Thriller Bark (manga) since Shanbody or whatever its called isnt all done yet -
I'd say Thriller bark as well, as I love the horror theme, and Moria is a really interesting villain with an equally interesting ability.
-
EL ftw I luv enies lobby could read it every day
-
Hmmm… this is a toughie.... well, I guess since so many interesting characters were introduced, I'm gonna have to go with the Sabondy arc as well. Though Skypiea and Enies Loby are tied for 2nd :)
-
Just a suggestion, maybe we should have an "Ultimate Favourte/Least Favourite Arc Thread" since I think a lot of people already mentioned the arc they liked most in the topic about arcs they disliked most.
I'll say my peace again - Skypiea was my favourite arc, and it's one of the best manga arcs I've ever read. Arabasta was just a written experiment that Skypiea perfected.
-
I think Oda gets better with each arc so every arc is an improvement so i guess TB is my fav since it his last completed arc.
-
EL/W7 definitely. At least so far. It'll take a lot to top it as my favorite.
The current arc is going great though.
-
I'd have to say that Skypeia was my favorite
-
I liked Skypeia, a lot, but not sure if enough to be my favorite. I think I liked W7/EL more than Skypeia though, but at times I felt it was too long. I also liked Thriller Bark because it was very funny. So far I like the Saboady arc best ^^
-
I'd go with the Enies Lobby Arc. There were many parts of that arc that made me cry, most especially the death of Going Merry. I loved how the strength of their bond was shown and also made you realize how strong everyone seemed to have gotten. It was really the most poignant arc for me.
-
Jaya/Skypiea was great.
-
Probably Skypiea, but I probably missed a few pages in that one. I have ADD, so I can't read ALL the chapters. (I have aids and cancer, too.) Alabasta was good, not my fav. tho.. Honestly, for me the funnest one was Foxy arc, but Enies Lobby/W7 is one of my favs, too.
..Hmm.. Im'ma have to go and choose… Enies Lobby arc. Didn't make me cry, but it's kickass. Period. But when the Saonbody Archipelago (spelling?) arc ends, that one will probably be my favorite arc :>
-
Arabasta. I have a craving for desert bandit themes.
-
Arabasta, too!
That was an amazing arc… and the beginning of something big! -
ALABASTA (or the whole Baroque Works Saga) >> THRILLER BARK >> ENIES LOBBY (or the whole CP9 Saga) >> ARLONG >> KURO >> BUGGY >> MORGAN >> BARETEI >> FOXY >> SKYPIEA
I know this thread is for most favorite only. Just forgive me for ranking them.
-
The best ones have to be Alabasta, Jaya, Skypiea, Thriller Bark and the current Shabondy arc (but because that hasn't finished I wont include it).
My favorites are Jaya and Skypiea. Great deep plot and twists, exciting characters, strong ass villian who is more powerful than everyone except Luffy, unique setting and great fights. I really enjoyed the battle royale theme. Jaya was a great arc because it had a strong pirate theme, we got to see Whitebeard, the WG leaders and some more Shichibukai, we got to see Blackbeard and also Bellamy getting OHKO'd is one of the greatest moments of the manga so far. I also really liked the Baratie arc because that really got me into One Piece a lot more because it was far superior to the first few arcs.
-
Thriller bark. Pure win.
-
my favourite is TB, the arc gets better and better each chapter.
-
You guys love the new stuff.
My favorite Arc was the Baratie Arc. Krieg was an awesome villain who beat Luffy, had tricks up his sleeve and was a true pirate. Plus Nami's betrayal, Sanji's arrival and the awesome Mihawk duel makes this Arc the best in the series. Characters like my favorite marine captain Ironfist Fullbody, tonfa wielding Gin and Surprise Pearl also made this arc my favorite. Gin and Krieg for life. And how could you not like Krieg's bad ass Lion mane?
-
Lessee…
I liked Whiskey Peak because of how drop-dead hilarious I found it. Zoro wiping out a hundred people, fighting with Luffy. Man, his fight with the bounty hunters in the anime was hilarious because the background music was this awesome jazzy piece that they don't play much anymore. It was a great juxtaposition.
I liked Jaya because the concept of a rowdy pirate town is a classic fixture in a swashbuckling adventure.
I liked Water 7 because it was something different, more dramatic, and it pushed the crew through trials unlike anything that they had experienced before. And I greatly enjoyed the Sea Train portion at the end.

Wow. I'm not trashing your opinion but i just have to comment on this because i've never had a case before when i 100% disagreeed with a well though out response. I despised baratie arc.

Lol I guess we all have different tastes, huh?

Gin doesnt get nearly as much respect as he deserves, He and his Tonfa alone made up for the fact that Kreigs entire crew sucked. And i totaly agree its an incredible arc, but im not entirely sure its the very best. Gonna have to think it over.
-
I love the Baratie Arc too, most especially Sanji's past. And not to mention it was the arc that really made me a fan of One Piece. But I'll still go with Water Seven on this one. For me, One Piece just gets better and better every arc, but Water Seven, specifically the Enies Lobby arc, just makes me wanna go Franky and say "Dammit! I love these guys!" while crying buckets of tears.
-
I'm with Terek on this one. Skypiea/Jaya has to be my favorite Arc I've ever read, not in One Piece but in Manga. Sure the action was "omg supa awsome" but the story telling was superb and the suspense and climax just felt awsome.
(My opinion on "best" is Alabasta)

I thought that the W7 arc showed Oda at the top of his game all the way from the start to the end of Robins flashback. Oda was just pulling out all stops throwing in Franky, Robins past, a duel over Merry, Sanjis train rescue and the Galley-la twist. All of it just blew me away.
But just about when they got to the actual CP9 fights it started to drag. And after that point it lost alot of its magic and the fights really werent dragging me in. and coupled with a few disapointments like the VAs showing up being all menecing and end up not doing jackshit or that Usopp never got a decent fight after all that Sogeking build up dropped the overall grade of it so it doesnt really deserve the title best arc.

Exactly why it's my fave.

I guess we really have different tastes, just like what Zkaiser-san said.
But, on the Usopp thing, I also think that Oda should have given him at least a decent "boss" fight. However, if you think about it, Usopp would've taken all the spotlight from the others, with him having a fight with Luffy and everything, and that's not fair, for a lack of better terms, to the others.

Suppose thats true Doc, Cant agree on everything. But we seem to be fairly in tune so far:happy:
As for which is my favorite im tempted to say Thriller Bark. Moria was both in power and personality one of the more intresting people in OP. Always thought he was what Luffy might end up as if he lost his crew in the new world. Well maybe not the Zombie making but still.
And his shadow power was a real fresh breeze after all that wind kicking. and had so many uses. i mean the fact that youd have two of Moria two fight and that he could switch instantly from shadow to shadow was cool enough but throw in the ability to throw around shadow creatures (Brickbat is pure win), and twisting and stretching his body in anyway he wants makes him beyond overpowered. and Toss in a monster like Odz in there and you have yourself an epic fight.
and the entire arc had that cozy old horror movie vibe to it, But of course Oda screwed me over once again when he made all the general zombies fodder. But ill forgive him cause Odz vs the entire crew was just that incredible. And he threw in Kuma at the end just to make sure wed love it

I don't know. Even though Usopp didn't get his own fight, he seemed to have a pretty big impact on the arc.
And I think the VA's were just for show at that point. Once we see more of them, then we'll see what they can really do.

Agreed. Even though I thought the TB arc was somewhat so-so, I absolutely loved Moria. He might be my favorite Shichibukai so far.

For me, the CP9 Arc was the best (W7 + EL) so far. In terms of open enjoyment, Shaboady is easily climbing the ladder, but until completion I cannot say. Also, I have not read Thriller Bark from start to finish yet aside from the chapter by chapter over the course of a year, so I cannot give a fair judgment over that.
In terms of enjoyment, story, action, and everything else combined ~~ I get the feeling that the CP9 Arc will remain my current favorite. I agree with wolfwood about the pro's for the arc, and disagree with the general consensus of con's for the arc. First and foremost I do not consider the Buster Call to be weak. I felt like the Buster Call was inescapable death that only Oda could write a solution to, and he did! Were it not for the miracle that was the Going Merry (which added a heap of emotion) and Sanji's clever foresight to close the Gates of Justice they would never have escaped ~~ and that was perfect for me. A huge sigh of relief. Next is the fights. Fights do not ever really seem to drag for me; what I confuse with dragging is usually the week-by-week releases not coming fast enough. I thought each fight had a decent duration of time to showcase the new abilities, new strengths, and emotion to win Robin back. In addition to this, we got to see for the first time ever Ussop displayed as a somewhat hero and much more impressive sniper ~~ in my opinion earning his title as sharpshooter / sniper for the first time. That alone was better than any fight I could have seen, and why show another major battle for him right after his fight with Luffy? We already saw him showcase his close range combat w/ dials, and at the end we see his SogeKing persona rampage with Kabuto from leagues away!
So in closing, I will quote wolfwood once more and add some of my own: Robin's flashback, Franky's flashback, The Weapons revealed, Roger's shipwright revealed, SogeKing, Luffy vs. Ussop, Robin's betrayal and past, Merry's "death" and funeral/memorial, new bounties for all, Garp and Dragon revealed, a new Ship, a new crewmate, new abilities for all, Monster Pointm, the Galley-la twist, Coby/Helmeppo's return, Zoro's sword, Robin's crying etc., Aokiji admitting defeat, the Sea Train…..etc., etc., etc. So much packed into one single arc, and it still was sewn together so well.
Anyways..........
-
I'm gonna keep it short….Water 7/ Enies Lobby arc!
Freakin' love that arc, people already named the reasons why they love that arc, so it's no need to explain why, when I already agree! -
Fights do not ever really seem to drag for me; what I confuse with dragging is usually the week-by-week releases not coming fast enough.
Might be some truth to that, havent re-read the arc since it was completed. And as Mr.Lucci said god i hope they return. Fidel and Scarface were way to great to be used once and thrown away.
-
Shabondy :D
Skypia => Enel ftw !
Enies Lobby ! -
My favorite arc would have to be Thriller Bark. It got me reading One Piece every week and introduced Brook.
-

Yeah, I reread it recently, and the fights didn't really seem to drag it was more of the weekly chapters thing.
-
i'm shouting out for the Alabasta arc! Definately had some pacing issues in the anime, but for the manga it was spot on! The way everything came together in the climax and how intimidating a villain like crocodile was really made me feel like it was one of the crew's first triumphant accomplishments. (some would say Arlong, but he was just a tough ass crew, not to say it wasen't an accomplishment but… the mugiwara's saved an entire kingdom and Luffy beat a shichi who was also a dangerous Logia user.. not too shabby). Everyone evolved in this arc and we gained Robin! The enemies were very cool and very unique!
And I always appreciate Smoker and Tashigi being in the picture

I forgot to mention. I loved that arc too. For some reason, reading the manga, it felt like those old cartoons I use to watch. Zoro being chased by countless agents was quite the ride.
-
EL, the sea train up until they reach the roof. I liked the villains that they faced on the sea train and loved the rampaging through enies lobby. after that it was okay.
I loved the war games part of skypeia because there were a ton of fighters that could just pop out of nowhere.
Right now though shabondy is owning. 9 crews around strawhat level plus a bunch of kumabots. And I expect more guys from the marines will be popping up aswell.
If shabondy becomes another wargame it'll be awesome. -
Water 7/Eniss lobby, Thriller bark, Shanaboney Island.
-
As I said in the Least Favorite Arc thread, I do not have a least favorite or favorite arc in One Piece. I like all of the arcs equally.
-
yeah I enjoy every arc too, I just like those the most
-
A tie between Davy Back Fight and Jaya.
No – seriously:
Davy Back Fight and Jaya.
--but if I had to choose an actual "arc" -- not a transitional one -- I'd say Arlong. It's what got me hooked on the series and still stands up over time.
-
Shabondy by far. and then the Arlong arc
-
I don't understand how anyone could seperate Water 7 and Enies Lobby into two diffrent arcs. However the CP9 arc is my favrioute in all of one piece so far.
-
Gotta go with Skypeia (I count Jaya as part of that) since it felt the most adventurous and the Strawhats actually acted like pirates. I felt that Oda was really maxing out the creativity with this completely unique environment and the special fighting styles used by the sky people.
CP9 is a pretty close second because the plot was so carefully crafted and of course, the drama was intense. But yeah, like a lot of people, I can't think of an arc I didn't actually like.
-
Thriller Bark,Enies Lobby,Skypeia,Little Garden,Arlong Park,Davy Fight Back,and Shanaboney Island.
-

oy oy oy, you know, just now, you said you hate it when people seperate eines lobby and water 7, but you just did that. by making cp9 an arc. ._.??
Just saying.
-
i really like thriller bark
