Anybody else think that Mashiro is too self centered? He doesn't really seem to care if Azuki reaches her dream or not. In fact Azuki probably thinks that Mashiro believes that she won't make it as a voice actor that's why she was crying.
Eiji seems interesting. I can't wait for him to meet Shujin and Mashiro.

You know what would be awesome? If they could somehow actually have manga battles. Like the boys draw a manga, and Eiji makes one that kills off their manga. In retaliation, they create a manga in the same previous world that kills off his manga and so on.
But I gather, it would reach DBZ levels at some point and become lame.. still a type of colab battle (kind of like eEca doodle chats) would be awesome.

Which now means that Oda HAS to make an appearance if for nothing else than to slam Eiji down and/or encourage our heroes.

After all, Oda is the type of person that dislikes even drawing himself, much less being drawn, so I doubt he would allow Obha to draw him in his manga unless his head was a fish.. and Bakuman isn't that type of manga.I honestly can't see any real life authors appearing. The only ones I can imagine of making cameos are the authors themselves. But even that is stretching my imagination. I guess it would be cool though. Dunno.
I was kinda wishing this Eiji fellow would end up being a good sport. Oh well. This turn off event feels little too… artificial. But it was a fun chapter.

Man, this book has jumped up a notch. This story needed a villain so bad and it looks like we've got a good one.

By bringing in real life authors, you bring in GIANTS the likes of which are Reileigh, Shanks, etc in One Piece. Characters like this can only be non-influential on the entire story much much later in the manga, like 4 years when it is established. At this moment, no matter how 'popular' Eiji gets in this fictional world, if a real life author like even Kishimoto shows up, he would own him, badly.
Therefore, the entire struggle and goal of one of our heroes (albeit antagonist) does not harm the status quo, due to EDM.

I never imagined a scenario when Eiji canceled One Piece, I just think that he can't claim "top crown SJ author" while One Piece (and Naruto, and Bleach, and Gintama, etc.) exists. But oh well, I'm sure they'll deal with that somehow.

The thing is he said "If I get to the top of jump". Which really is a hugely long term thing. So they could do something like "a time skip where all the current mangas have ended" or something.
Really it's hard to figure out where they'd go with this, because as it's been mentioned, it would take a few years for the story to get to some of the goals. -

I think if the series sticks around, much like Death Note, eventually these heroes will attain their goals. L figured out who Killer was before he died, Light became the top cop and continued to be Kira, so this manga likewise will give a chance for our heroes (both pro/antagonistic) to achieve their dream. But in the case of Eiji, there are things that can stop him.
For example, he could reach #1 status, and go to the chief editor and say I want to cancel Bakuman, and the Chief Editor would say.. that series is a classic, you're stupid.
Ooooh, wouldn't it be a great twist if Ohba planned this all out that if Bakuman ever reaches #1 status he cancels it? Reaffirming he's kind of a psycho, but in a fun to read kind of way?

I agree, this is one of the best chapters thus far. I pretty much knew that Shujin and Mashiro wouldn't win the Tezuka award since they were so hyped about it and it's way too soon (though I did think they might get honorable mention).
And yeah, Shujin punching out that dude was epic.

Things are starting to get interesting in this series. Right when Mashiro starts blaming himself for the loss, I have a feeling him and Shujin friendship is gonna go down hill soon. Then Mashiro will turn emo and hide away from his friends haha.

This chapter was epic, but the series altogether continues to be good, and better as it goes. So I continue to recommend it, and for whoever hasn't started reading I would suggest right now is the epic perfection for someone to start. This is like watching OP until episode 24 and becoming hooked.
This right here is the clincher that will hook fans.
