Ah yes it was the fake holy water training, my bad and I appreciate your alerting me of my error. It was still an epic training sequence though lol. I miss epic training sequences haha.

Blu-Ray DBZ O.O!!!
13 Ep for 50 bucks…
Imma wait this one out.
IIRC… Blu-ray's also 4:3 so, consider before buying.

@The:

4:3…
Wow that's bad.
Imma wait for the true Blu 16:9 HD Widescreen version.
Or just download the HD fandubs for now :3
-
4:3…
Wow that's bad.
What, why? We're getting the full uncropped HD masters that they're using for the Blu-ray release in Japan.
You don't need widescreen for something to be in HD.
Imma wait for the true Blu 16:9 HD Widescreen version.
Not gonna happen.
EDIT: Oh forgot to mention the trailer: The dub seems to have potential but I need to hear more.

Odd cuz the DBK I'm watching is in HD and Widescreen.
Odd world we live in.

Youtube version for simplicity sake.

So you don't mind losing 20% of the screen?

Only the Japanese DVD release and broadcast are in widescreen. Even the newly animated stuff was done in 4:3.

So in the 4:3 Bluray version, you can actually see more than in the 16:9 TV version?
Funny.

That's what I was thinking.
I'll just wait… I don't like the idea of a Blu Ray cropped on the SIDES.
-
I'll just wait… I don't like the idea of a Blu Ray cropped on the SIDES.
…But its not?
-
There is a ZOOM button on your remote.
-
The show was cropped because of Japanese television laws, nothing more.
-
There is a ZOOM button on your remote.
ha yea, zooming will give you the 16:9 that you see on the widescreen tv releases.
-
@Yuugi's:

Yeah, you're actually getting more of the picture on the Blu-Ray release than on the TV one.
-
Yeah, you're actually getting more of the picture on the Blu-Ray release than on the TV one.
Imma find someone with the Blu-Ray DBK and test it… cuz nothing said here makes any sense for my current set-up.
Other than the japanese laws part.
-

hmm? what's to test? this picture was posted already and you can clearly see that the left picture, the 4:3, is nto missing anythign that the right has, but in fact has more.
the 16:9 is just zoomed in, which all hd tv's have a button on the remote to go wide, zoom, 16:9, 4:3, normal, ect modes. So if you want the experience you saw on tv, push the button until you get the desired view. So not sure what you have to test out/try.
-
There we go.
Better explanation.
Much appreciated ^^!

That reminds me I need to watch more DB Kai. Probs not tonight though since I'm watching the highlights of Eddie Izzard: marathon man.
-
haven't personally seen any dbzkai, because i can't stand the characters voices. i grew up on dubs, like the dubs, and can't handle the japanese voices. especially the screaming
-
I like the subs, but then again I never disliked the dubs, they are fairly decent for anime overall. I am a hardcore DB fan so I would have a pretty high tolerance for that anyway even now, and on the most part I hate US anime dubbing.
-
but the screaming is the best part.
Dub actors are pussies for not ripping their throats apart.

@robbybedfart:

This…
All named attacks are 100 percent louder in the japanese version.
Hell Luffy's attacks in english suffer the same problem (thou his american voice actor at least sounds similar to the japanses one at least).
Voice actors in the West lack passion it seems.
As far as RAWR screaming goes.
-
But Japan has a higher quality of cartoons than America so you would expect the actors to have more passion. Most of the American ones probably do it just as a job and I doubt many of them watch the cartoons they make. I imagine many of the Japanese actors probably watch anime, since anime is treated far more like an art form than cartoons are in America.
I am aware thast is a broad cultural assumption, especially from someone who is neither American or Japanese. I must point out just so I don't seem too biased or anything, I do think there are plenty of great American cartoons.
Also if anyone can prove me wrong in my perception that America on the whole treats cartoons and comics far less seriously than Japan, by all means please challenge my assumption. If I can be proved wrong to some extent I do not actually lose, rather I gain some truthful insight and thus become wiser. The person who can enlighten me will have done a good deed in sharing their wisdom.

This is true.
Japanese live acting not so great.
Althou their horror movies do scare the SHIT out of me even with their obvious low budget.
Speaks volumes of our horror market.
-
Ah so I did put forwards an accurate point lol. I try not to be anti-American lol, since I cannot blame a whole nation for the representation of said nation I receive through the media and by word of others. I'm very much a see for myself type of guy.
-
I can't stand Goku's Japaness voice, it fits him as a kid but as an adult it just dosen't fit for me, other then that the sub is ok but I'll always perfer the dub since that's what I'm use too, kind of like with one piece where I like the funi dub but I'll allways perfer the japaness verson just becuse that's the one I watched first.

Yeah Goku and Gohan's voices when adults were a bit… lulzy.
Krillin amazingly didn't sound bad...but then again he looked like a man child all along.
I do find it slightly humorous that Piccolo and Vegeta's japanese voices were extremely badass compared to the "protagonists" voices.
Their english voices were phenomenal thou.
-
The English voices were terrifyingly bad up to about the Android arc (and even then you had the continuous voice of Shit Schemmel and stuff like #19, #16 and Fat Buu). They literally plucked people off the streets and put them in a voice acting booth.
I don't think the Japanese cast was as amazing as some people say (I only adore the main cast, mostly), but it was far and away the better cast of the two.

Yeah…the voices for Buu were terrible (cept Super Buu). And lol @ androids.
We already discussed the music thou... I was about to head down that muddy path.
-
The Vegeta Saga and the Namek Saga weren't bad, because FUNimation dubbed them after the Kid Buu Saga. Unless you're referring to the Ocean Dub(Which FUNimation was in charge of), that is a different story.

On the contrary, Goku's Japanese voice fits him perfectly. The problem is, the dub completely missed the point on Goku's entire character and pretty much changed it. Toriyama picked Masako Nozawa personally as Goku for a reason.
The dub has this idea that Goku's supposed to be an idiotic superhero with a sense of justice. When in reality, Goku's just a naive mountain hick who doesn't like "bad guys" that hurt his friends. Which is pretty much mostly the case for him fighting in Z.
I'm also perplexed by how several dub fans get the idea that all of the Japanese voices equate to Masako Nozawa's. Especially funny how they complain about those voices, yet have no problem with Reacoom sounding like a meat head, Freeza sounding like a granny, and Christopher Sabat taking on more roles than everyone else.

The one thing that bugged me about the two redubs was how rampant the swearing became when there was originally none in the original Japanese script. It's like they were trying to forcefully make the "Ultimate Uncut Edition" into something "hardcore."

Ay dios mio! :ninja:

Haha, no.
As much as I love the Mexican dub, it certainly does not destroy the original seiyuu. Ryo Horikawa is unbeatable in that match. Vegeta's Mexican voice actor didn't seem to really put much energy into the role.
-
About the dub, pretty much everything Tsukento said about it nails my thoughts on it exactly with just a few additions.
First off, I find it extremely hypocritical of most dub fans who will make the whole "Goku sounds like a girl in Japanese", but will turn around and praise Freeza's Dub voice. That's kindof a double standard, and it's not really right.
I mean, both actresses are known for playing male roles in DBZ. Nozawa as Son Goku and Young as Freeza. Both are also known for playing an old Lady in other Shounen Series, Nozawa as Dr. Kureha in One Piece and Young as Genkai in Yu Yu Hakusho.
Compare Nozawa's DBZ Era Son to her Dr. Kureha and you'll see a CLEAR difference, she's obviously trying to sound male in once instance, and like an old lady in the other.
Compare Freeza's English voice to Genkai and the voices are identical, albeit Freeza is just a slight bit more arrogant. That's the problem. But Dub fans still praise Freeza but Decry Nozawa?!But putting aside the acting, the most glaring problem with DBZ's Dub is the script writing. It's absolutely horrid to be quite frank. Lines are changed, character personalities are destroyed. Vegeta's character was entirely changed. They rewrote his main monologue about "Elites" vs "Low Class", they changed his dying speech to Son so instead of owning up to his own assholeishness but still sticking it to Freeza, in the dub he now blames his entire character on Freeza like some dumb copout…
Not to mention that, while some attacks were retained like Kamehameha, or Kaioken (although it's pronounced wrong...) and some were translated properly like Wolf Fang Fist or Spirit Bomb, others were just massacred and made into REALLY stupid... just... "Special Beam Canon"?! "Destructo Disc"?!?! Seriously?!
Pretty much NONE Of this would stand nowadays. I mean, what would everyone do if a dub company took One Piece, changed the name of a main character, kept some attacks in Japanese, translated some others properly, but completely screwed up a bunch. Made massive script changes that completely changed characters, and completely replaced the music what would the fanbase sa-
Oh wait…Honestly, with the exception of it still using Linda Young as Freeza, the best Dragon Ball Z dub hands down so far has to be Burst Limit. (The PS3/360 Game) The acting and direction was up to par with FUNimation's current standards, the script was really damn accurate and although they still used most of the standard dub terms, they actually called him "Son Goku" during his monologue to Freeza. Granted, he pronounced "Son" wrong, but It was CERTAINLY a step in the right direction!
If Kai's dub is up to the Standard that Burst Limit Set, I think I'll actually watch and enjoy it… Well, I still have to watch the Namek Arc in Japanese to get around fucking Granny Freeza, but the rest of the series will actually have a GOOD dub... and that's kind of exciting.
-
First off, I find it extremely hypocritical of most dub fans who will make the whole "Goku sounds like a girl in Japanese", but will turn around and praise Freeza's Dub voice. That's kindof a double standard, and it's not really right.
I think the main thing is that Freeza's appearance is somewhat feminine, so that's why a lot of people think his dub voice fits. Goku is a big muscley man, and Freeza is a small (most of the time) white and purple and/or pink dude that looks like he wears lipstick and nail polish… so there's a bit of a difference there. But still, you're right.
But wait... If one is able to accept Goku with a woman's voice, why not Freeza with a woman's voice? Kidding.
Despite Freeza sounding like an old bitch, I still like his dub voice (I like his Japanese voice too). I guess it's just because I grew up with it and I'm used to it. Even if Young was recasted I wouldn't have minded, and I still don't mind that they kept her.
-
The Frieza androgeny can get a little confusing. First of all we have the femininity. We know Frieza can be considered male though because King Cold specifically calls him his son in both the translations of the anime and manga I have watched and read.
Plus the possibility of him having a gender is fairly certain since in the translated versions it is stated that he has more than one parent, so a high possibility of different genders, unless Frieza has two fathers lol.
It isn't as clear cut as Piccolo, who seems to be male but biologically has to be asexual. Yes he came from an egg and we know things from eggs can be male or female. However Demon King Piccolo didn't (and couldn't) mate with any other being on Earth, he just spat out an egg whenever he liked.
Which leads me to a side point: the relationship of Majunior and Kami-sama. Since Kami-sama expelled the evil that became known as Demon King Piccolo, he must be some sort of uncle to Majunior. Excuse my poor logic, I haven't had sleep all night. On further thought, Majunior can probably be considered a clone of Demon King Piccolo who in a sense was Kami-sama lol.
-
That's also part of the problem there. A lot of people have taken appearance as a deciding factor over personality. And really, we don't see Goku as a being an muscle-bound warrior until his shirt gets blown off by villains or he's pushed to his very limits.
An interesting thing about Goku is that his eyes changed from being rounded to being sharper edged after turning into a Super Saiyan, showing a distinct change in personality (which was also left out in the dub when they felt he had to do that "Ally to good!" nonsense speech.
Speaking of dropped personality, it seems that when dubbing first began, FUNi must have confused Freeza's speech and mannerisms with that of a woman, as Freeza is basically an overly polite, psychopath. As I've mentioned before, he'll apologize to you if you're in pain while he's pounding the hell out of you. He also had a habit of referring to most of his henchmen with "-san" (Zarbon-san, Dodoria-san and so on). He's basically the stuck up noble that lets his grunts do most of the work, but can actually beat the shit out of you and do far worse than them.
Unfortunately, the script writing for Freeza has been awful. Having him deliver all sorts of puns and gags (all because the writer felt his mother should get the "cool sounding" lines) and some of the most…questionable as all hell lines in DBZ's dub ("Whatever turns you on, Big Boy.")
-
Quite a few good manga villains are overly polite, usually quite quiet and psychopaths lol. As much as we hate him, Aizen is good in that as a villain he pisses us off with his hax techniques. Anyway the polite (perhaps confused with patronising) but psychopathic villain is a staple of shonen. Kuroro Lucifer from HXH, Sosuke Aizen from Bleach, arguably Sensui from YYH, also Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh, anyone from Sailor Moon and so on.

I found this Dragonball related video yesterday on Youtube. It's pretty darn funny if you ask me. Enjoy!

Volume 22 Chapter 260; Bulma and Dende had a conversation where it was stated Namekian doesn't have gender (male/female). They do have fighters type and healers type however (Dende and Piccolo conversation at V26Ch304).
-
So Namekians don't have penises.
-
So Namekians don't have penises.
So does Frieza apparently. His final/original form seems like he's naked because he has no armor that cover his body like his other forms.
-
I love the JPN music better than the Nathan/Bruce music. It reminds me of Dragonball, and gives you the Dragonball feel. Why do I prefer the Dragonball feel? Because it is still Dragonball, just like Hokuto No Ken 2 is still Hokuto No Ken. Dragonball Z is never hardcore as the dubbers make it out to be.
-
So Namekians don't have penises.
I thought it was long established in DB that they layed eggs.
And no Namek bishes leads me to believe penises would be useless.

Mainly because they can just fused with each other… Namek sure is interesting race.

Could people PLEASE stop spelling Freeza's name wrong?…
