Hahaha yeah that was one of my favourite part of part4, that and the Italian restaurant bit and the paper scissors game and … aah too many of them.
part 4 is my favorite. I know folks like Stardust Crusaders a lot, but I enjoyed the mystery part about part 4 so much, the whole tracking down the killer theme, and just how much the gang had to risk with every discovery about Kira, he was really a formidable enemy.
! Shit, he even had the ability to kill everyone instantly who discovers his ability, the most useful ability for every serial killer.
The stands also started to take more creative forms, stardust had these more classic abilites, while part 4 started to get really creative, but not nearly as confusing as some in part 6. Josukes repair ability, superfly, cheap trick, Atom Heart Father, Pearl Jam, just to name a few.

The damage both Kira and Josuke sustained in their battle doesn't seem to have reflected in their stands, did Araki forget it goes both ways

Maybe for the same reason Dio got a hawk and an orangutan as assassins?
My guess would be that stray cats acts friendly towards him, since he took care of it.
Also, stand users are apparently all drawn to each other, so if stray cat didn't happen to run into Kira first, it might have been an ally.
If noting of this seems likely to you, just pretend he likes Kira because his stand is a big cat.

That's just how Rohan is. He likes outsmarting people, that's why he tricked Cheap Trick's owner into revealing his back instead of simply using Heaven's Door on him. Besides, if he tried to use Heaven's Door and failed, Josuke would have put him in the hospital.
The only time Kira didn't see stands was when he was inside the dark box, at which point there wasn't enough light and all he knew was that his bag was being tugged on.
Oh, and as for Stray cat Protecting Kira, there's 2 reasons. 1, animals are easily tamed, and generally follow the directions they are given. Stray Cat was actually pretty friendly with Kira until his wife showed up. Secondly, it was in self defense. The stands were coming at Kira, which made it think they were coming at it.

About part 5, atleast the context is understandable. But it becomes quite a mess towards the end.
The anime will clear many misunderstandings.
The thing about part 5 is, that it has a pretty bad translation but the scans and typing look okay (well, clearly better than duwang for part 4), so at first you are fooled into thinking this may actually be a legit scan.
Aren't the guys who are redoing some part 4 right now also working on part 5? I thought I heard something about this.

Red parts probably have the right meaning. At least in my Tankobon it's like that. The main point of Rohan calling Tamami here is to ensure Josuke's cheating in the last round. Otherwise if Josuke chose to toss normally, Rohan would never find out his trick.
And i also noticed in English scan of part 5 some lines about gay are missing. Humm…kind of bizarre?

Johnny is the alternate universe equivalent of Jonathan. Gyro is Zepelli. It's apparent that the alternate universes are more different than they are similar. You'll find more differences than you'll find similarities (with a scant few exceptions such as Abdul and Stroheim).
Magenta Magenta is Cars.
They don't have to share physical features of their counter parts to be considered as such, as long as there's one similarity of any kind then it's okay.

No I don't think he's a counterpart, maybe an homage or something but nothing more.
When Araki references old things like that he never tries to make them exactly the same. He only does homages and such. Otherwise it's boring, it's just the same thing and re-using the same old characters and ideas.
