Yeah, I'm pretty sure I remember all Shikamaru not wanting to be with Ino, Ino not wanting to be with Choji and wanting to be with Sasuke instead. So if they knew about this clan thing from that young an age and knew it was something that had been done for many generations, what the hell is up with the reaction they had back then

No, the manga definitely had the team lineups as a surprise.

Yeah, the teacher was probably thinking: Ehh, screw all this balancing thing, if it worked for generations then it will work this time too. Although now I wonder: it seems like every other rookie has a clan technique or at least something that makes them unique (Gates for Lee, weapon scrolls for Tenten), what's Sakura's specialty? Her Chakra control (which later is used for Medic and super strength)? That's it? Seems pretty standard to me…

Pleasantly surprised by this chapter, making me actually give a shit about any of them. And the butterfly wings didn't piss me off as much as I thought they would.
I'd forgotten the prior continuity that they were surprised by their match up, but honestly this retcon makes way more sense.

TenTen didn't take out the lightning monster. Asuma conveniently destroyed it with his wind jutsu aimed at Chouji. Remember lightning is weak against wind in 'Naruto'. So far TenTen has still done mostly nothing.

Their importance was hinted at hundreds of chapters back when Asuma gave them as presents for all of them becoming Chunin.
The chapter was pretty good. I would like to know how Chouji manifested those butterfly wings without the red pill which increases his chakra level by 100 times though. The only explanation is that Chouji just…powered up or something and released the chakra on his own to make the physical manifestation of chakra shaped into the butterfly wings.

Choji has been making this progress from before. He couldn't expand his body without pills in part 1, but he does it now. Shikiamaru once said he won't fight Choji because he too strong and Asuma said he sas the best in terms of physical strength. Asuma said Ino would bring the team together. Which is wat she has been doing the past chapters with lazyass Shikiamaru and punkass Choji. She told both to man up a few chapters ago. Also Choji dad is a Tank. He freaking takes hits left and right.

You're right, now that I see it more carefully, it was Asuma who destroyed the monster, but it looked like Tenten shook the fan to attack the monster with one of the elements. Her quote helped with this misunderstanding.
Kishimoto's drawing is so half assed nowadays that I can't understand some of the panels.
