There's no V, either.
Technically, there is. However, their "v"s are different than are. It's more of a "Ui" sound for their v's.

There's also no ending sound other than N (ん) too.
I'm sure we could spend all night talking about how to speak wapanese…
((they use the "b" sound for "v", Tsukento...))
Was referring to the letter itself. :p But yeah, what they lack in these letters, they make up with alternatives.
Dr. Hiruluk -> Dr. Hiruruku
Thousand Sunny -> Sauzando Sanii
Vegeta -> Bejiita
I dunno, Eneru's name is weird.
Sometimes you do hear them pronounce the "U", though other times it sounds like "Enel". So, yeah, confusing.
Btw guys, all the clips are up. Enjoy.
Speaking of clips, episode will be up in a bit. I just need to do something.
Apparently, Zoro doesn't believe in "kings." He has no faith in "kings" in all.
Poor Dub Luffy, Zoro will stop having faith on him after he becomes the Pirate KING.
Zoro never said that. Zoro is showing disbelief in the idea that Eneru could do such a thing. The way it's worded is clever enough to avoid references to God, but also works for the subject at hand.
Edit- Ah never mind. Didn't notice that post ChibiGoku. My bad.
So I've been pronouncing Eneru's name right all the time.
"Only the wind knows your answer" great line.

Okay, so what Rukie meant is that Zoro was against the idea of Kings like Eneru or the thing of Eneru's absolute power?
Yeah, I also pronounce Eneru like if it was a silly pokemon name made by the combination of the words Energy and Rush, pretty much EneRu.
They said Gravity Blue Riders, but my captions say Blue Sea Dwellers!
Could it be for the uncut version?
You know what's more strange in the captions when Mckinley was talking to the crew it said "Blue Sea Dwellers".
I caught that. Captions also said Cloud Beach instead of Angel Beach. Weird.
Conis: He knows and sees everything. He's truely omniscient.
Usopp: Everything?
Conis: He keeps his all-seeing eyes focused on everyone…always.
Usopp: For real?!
Luffy: Like right now?
Conis: Oh...yes.
Chopper: I hate it when people stare at me and I can't see them!
Zoro: Huh...yeah right.
Chopper: You don't believe this guy to be all bad. I know that look.
Zoro: Well, for me, it's not a matter of belief. I don't see proof of it one way or another. And to be honest, I don't really care to. But if they thought he's so mean for so long, who am I to question it?
That's the dialogue involving Zoro's beliefs in the dub.
Also, the Closed Captions are weird as hell. Sometimes entire sentences are vastly different or come up when nothing's said. A while back, we had Gan Fall's name written as "Gun Fall" in the captions despite the name being pronounced and written in the credits as Gan Fall.
People need to stop bragging about being able to get Eneru's name right before the show aired. These people bragging are imitating Ussop more than anything.
I watched it first by K-F as Enel and have been calling him by Enel up to this point. Now that I got the official romanization, I'll use what is official.
Shura = Vegeta, but tis good
Ohm was very good, alot like his 4Kids voice but that one was good already
Gedatz sounds very very deep, need to hear more
Satori is great, they got him perfectly!
And lemme say how much I love Pagaya's voice, it's just great.
Is there any confirmation on IQ Test vs. Ordeals vs. Trials? Haven't been paying much attention, but I saw on Wiki that IQ Test was shown for the first episode in January. I know to never trust Wiki, but seeing that made me curious since all those strange translations have been fixed in the dub so far, it'd be weird if this one managed to slip by.
I never really got why they called it Vearth in either version. I mean if it's a reference to something it went over my head.

Yeah, it's in the title for the first episode of January.

Oh man, I love how a lot of the people who say that sort of crap tend to use a just as forced English sounding pronounciation. Gotta love how some of those idiots think they're above professionals. If this were 4Kids, sure. That'd fly. Not with FUNimation or Viz and what not.

The "wi" (ウィ) actually has a "ui" sound. The "v" kana (va, vi, vo, ve, vu) sound much like they would in English.
@Aethos:

Earth plus a V.
Yeah, it's in the title for the first episode of January.
Aww Poop. I saw it on the CN website just now to confirm. Oh well, at least the uncuts will have everything back to how it should be. And this is only one of a few 4Kids terms that managed to stick thus far (Gravity Blue Riders, this, and some of the spellings which don't matter anyway)

eh? Who's bragging about that? I haven't seen anything of the sort in this thread.
After rewatching the Japanese version, Everyone says "Ussop-uh" and Luffy clearly says "Ener" without the U. So it depends on the name.

Uh, not quite. The U at the end of Eneru wouldn't be silent. Just like how the "to" at the end of Kakarotto isn't silent.
Now, the U in Sasuke…that is where the U sounds somewhat silent.
Yeah. It's usually su that has the silent u.
I only ever called him Eneru cause everyone else seemed to do that… along with the scans and fansites calling him that. Wasn't till K-F called him Enel that I started calling him that.
Either way doesn't matter though.

I don't care if people called him Eneru before the episode, but what's annoying is when people gloat about it. It gives me the impression that they are lying(kind of like Ussop does).

To me, it gives me the impression that they're stuck up jackoffs who think they better than everyone else for it. :wassat:
Ok! Sorry I'm late. Episode download is up!
Family… can sometimes cause these delays. There might one like this, in all seriousness, next week.
Zoro never said that. Zoro is showing disbelief in the idea that Eneru could do such a thing. The way it's worded is clever enough to avoid references to God, but also works for the subject at hand.
and the problem is… Wapol did the same thing and it's very normal for kings to be corrupt.
I was all for King Eneru at first but the way the dialog was re written, it just isn't working for me. They acted way too surprised at there being a king who was bad. That happens all the time. I realize though that this is NOT Funimation's fault at all. They had to use something and they did. It's just not working for me.
Luffy's "There's actually a KING? O_O!" I mean... come on XD
and Chopper's "Aren't neighbors supposed to be friendly?"
Sanji: "There's actually a King!" like it's never heard of XD
It really sounded awful, Im sorry but it did.
Also I'm not fond of Chopper being surprised that Luffy would risk his life. He's done that how many times now?
What's more, I'm sick of hearing 4Kids bullshit. We all want to put it behind us and I'm tired of getting reminded it of it every episode with some new stupid term like Varse and Gravity Blue Rider.
Voice were the usual. Great, on par with the original and very fitting.
But I might stop watching the TV dub, I've been thinking about it for a while. I'd rather have the full effect of the uncut DVDs and not have to put up with being reminded of 4Kids again and again.
And go ahead, flame me and tear this post apart, I'm just saying what I feel.
one last thing
It sounds like Ussop says "Christian Urge!" but I think it's "Twisted Urge" XD
Thanks Chibi from everyone on the other side of the atlantic.
Ok! Sorry I'm late. Episode download is up!
Woot!
No worries, I watched The NeverEnding Story in the meantime.
Well, you're free to do what you want Quexinos, but I don't see why you couldn't just try to ignore the little 4kids terms that the FUNi dub has considering that the rest of it is great.
The uncut DVDs will be even better, but just know that they won't be keeping up with the tv airing.
that's the problem, I don't know if I can hold out O_o
Now you understand what I was talking about a couple weeks back.
Will all previous episodes be re-dubbed before they go out on DVD? I mean they all finally got into their voices and performing exponentially better (Especially Zoro, he was way too deep before).
edit: thanks Chibi, I was kind of annoyed that I missed today's episode. I try to contribute my 1 rating every chance I get.
It's going to be pretty painful for the next few episodes until we push past these god/king scenes. These content edits are about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
On the upside, all voices were great this week. Special kudos to some really wonderful lines for Nami. Of the new voices introduced this week, the only one I'm not totally satisfied with is Satori.

Who the hell knows?
I for one don't think they should release DVDs until they can start at episode 1.

Are you crazy? Why would anyone want to wait untill 2009. Anyway I'm starting to wonder when the dvd's will be released. Now that it's nearly christmas the november-februari estimate is starting to look like it was a little too optimistic. We'll get the movie but I guess we'll have to wait untill around april for the boxsets, although in the end I don't really care when they are released (sooner rather than later off course) as long as they make absolutely sure that they're done right (re-voiced and all).
Back on topic: I have to say that I loved Satori's voice. Actually I have no complaints on any of the voices this time around the only thing I'm complaining about is some of the things those voices said but you can't have everything I suppose.
oh god I hope it's not April -_-
If it was coming in Februari we would have the release date by know. If we're lucky we'll get it in March but I wouldn't count on it so April seems like a safe bet if you want to keep your sanity untill it does come out.
Keep my what now?
I was trying to say that it's better to bet on April rather than put all your hopes on March and get all stressed up and dissapointed when it turns out to be April or May. I wasn't suggesting that you were insane or might go insane. Actually there's only one person here who's insane and that's me.
Quexi, listen to the dialogue with Zoro again. His disbelief stems from the idea of a King being able to keep an eye on everyone and be incredibly vengeful. He said himself he saw no proof of it, so he doesn't buy into it.
@Fire Fist:

… You have no idea how Japanese phonology works, do you? :getlost:
The only complaint I have about the episode is that they changed the "They're…. propably perverts."-line. I mean, you can't even call someone a pervert on a children's show? Then why the heck did they do it in Ice Age 2? (Yes, I have to refer to an american-made children's movie to prove my point.) I already knew that the god-references would be gone, and I was glad to hear that they didn't say "En-Ay-roo" like 4Kids did. I sure hope FUNi gives a release-date for the first DVD soon. (And please FUNi, call it volume 12 and not volume 1!)
Vegard, it's because Usopp originally said "Hen-tachi", which means "That group's weird." Chopper mistook that and thought he heard Usopp say "Hentai" (Perverts). You CAN'T translate that into English as there's no English words to play on with that.
As for the DVDs, last I heard, they're going to be named via the arcs rather than numbered. Calling it Volume 12 would be stupid as that would mean FUNi has to somehow turn 144 episodes later on into 11 volumes. They've being released as boxsets. Not single DVDs.

Oh, so that's why. KF didn't have a translation-note in the actual episode, and I don't understand japanese all that well, so I didn't realise that.
But on the "Turning 143 episodes into 11 volumes"-thing, keep in mind that they said that they would release them in 13-episode-sets, and 143 episodes would then make exactly 11 boxes. That's why I said that they should say volume 12. But I guess "Skypeia volume 1" could work too. I just hope they label the episodes and boxes correctly, and don't pull another "Lost Episodes"-thing, like they did with Dragonball GT.
