It only works on people to whom he has demonstrated his release. From what I recall, he gathered all the Captains and Vice Captains at some point prior to the series and demonstrated his release to them in some sort of ceremony, and that had all them hooked.

I don't think Aizen ever released his sword during the fight; he had released it to demonstrate its power to the captains and vice captains when he first became a captain, claiming it was a water elemental zanpakuto instead of what it actually was. However, he just beat Ichigo with his normal sword.
However, if this is the plot point Kubo is going to use to have Ichigo beat Aizen, that means that Ichigo is going to have to practically fight while blind, seeing as he can't look at Aizen once he has used Shikai or else Aizen wins. Not that Ichigo stands a chance anyways; ever since Aizen killed his theme song, he's been losing most fights he gets into, and struggling with opponents beneath his level (ex. the former Espada).

Not necessarily. How are the grunts from other divisions gonna know what Aizen looks like? Only the seated officers and Captains/Lieutenants would be in daily interaction with him. Hell, remember how Kenpachi remarked that he had never seen Komamura's face before until he slashed his mask off during their fight? He had to remove his mask when he ate and probably when he slept, so at least someone had to see him without it.
What that means, essentially, is that other than in a Crisis situation, I doubt the divisions interact with each other much, so for Aizen to trick everyone, all he has to do is gather his division, demonstrate his Shikai, and voila, they're foo-bared.

You don't need television to accomplish this here. It's not like we're talking about a huge huge metropole (leave alone a country or an entire world). We're talking about a something like a huge military base. And for something as organized as that which also most probably has some archaic kind of etiquette to it I'm quite sure that every single member here is familiar with even the appearances of the higher ranks.
Also to get back to the original point, it simply would be too much of a gamble by Aizen to not hypnotize everybody. He can never be sure that among the nameless minor ranks there might not be somebody who knows exactly what he looks like. If there's just one single person like that than there would be the chance of him going like "hey, who's that guy who's been following Shinji dressing up like Aizen?". I'm sure you realize that Aizen is not the kind of guy to allow the possibility of such a scenario unlikely or not. So the only possible way to erase that possibility is to hypnotize everyone. So yeah, Kubo provides again.

Lol big shock that the main character in a fairly generic shonen would be the only one who can beat the main villain. Though I don't think it'll happen here (Ichigo winning), we still need some Vastro Lorde's to be shown and Ichigonator needs to be waved in front of the other Vaizards to hype Ichigo up and show him as the strongest Vaizard (you know it's coming).

Those spoilers make no sense…. but i guess we need an excuse for Ichigo to win. Like becoming the most powerful guy in the end is not important now. For a guy like me that grew up watching Dragon Ball, this is just stupid. Ichigo needs to train his ass out.. when was the first time he trained for something... not since the shikai and bankai release parts. Ohh well the vaizards trew him some training. But okay, so three trainings and top tier in the bleach universe? I hope this is no the end, otherwise this manga is really going down as a very lame excuse of a story.
Goku trained all the fucking time, and Toriyama created that rule for the saiyans that they became stronger with each quasimortal wound they receive. So i can understand why he have any chances when every new bad guy appear, but this is buuuuuuuullshit! Kenpachi coming in and destroying everyone in his path was a bit much…sure I like him and he is a classic but I think sometimes they just make him a bit too uber because "he just fights and doesn't rely on any of the other mumbo-jumbo this series has". But at least it looks like Ruriiro Kujaku has come back and next time will probably be Soifon/Suzumebachi. (oh and Ashisoji Jizo fun)
BTW: Someone pointed out that another potential Zanpakutou was revealed in the new opening in a "blink and you miss it" moment.

It's pretty much been reduced to one of three candidates though
1. Katen Kyokotsu's other half (since it's a dual blade and we have Sodo no Katawari and even Zabimaru as two spirits)
2. Itegumo (Isane mentioned her Zanpakuto and somehow the name could infer something a ninja could use)
3. Benihime (the weird nature of Urahara's Zanpakuto could fit it too…if he somehow popped into SS)
