….I can't believe there's no thread for this thing.
I started reading this a month ago and I LOVE it; my 4th fav. manga after OP.
My fav. character is Ogi, probably cuz she grew on me and because of her tramautic past. I haven't read Vol. 9 yet, but I do hope by then that Saki gets laid by...her boyfriendwhoseexpressionneverchanges-whathisname....
The Genshiken Thread
-
-
Genskiken is a great series,i own the first volume of the anime
-
Thanks to Genshiken, I now understand primitive instinctual sexual desire.
Thank you Genshiken!
-
I only watch the anime.
The first season was excellent; I never really watched a series like this, so I thought it was relaxing and hilarious.
The second season, however…Doesn't seem as good to me so far...I don't really like how the shading in it, and that new girl in Genshiken seems kinda bland (I never watched OVA's, since I couldn't find a group that subbed it). Also, the second season seems to be relying on fanservices alot more than the first season did (which is kinda a bad thing, since I thought the first season, even though they talk about hentai doujins alot, didn't show any actual ecchi material).
...That's just IMO, though...
-
You should watch the ovas, it's available fansubbed and Ogiue was introduced there…she's anything but bland.
-
Her hairstyle just seems oddly out of place and her personality ("I hate otakus") is eerily similar to Kasukabe. The only thing different about her is that she can draw…
However, I may just have to take your advice and watch the OVA's to understand her fully.
-
I was always interested in this series, seemed like it was quite a lot of fun.
Anyone know where scanlations are available?
-

! It's implied earlier on that they already have.
Genshiken's one of my favorite series ever.
His name's Kousaka, btw.

@Mr.:

I second Mr All Sunday. The city library here only has volumes 1-7 and it's been like that for months and I'm dying to read what's next. (I wish they update it. T__T)
Anyway, I like Ogiue too. She reminds me a bit of myself.

Yeah I remember now, lol, and I hope it wasn't a joke from the author. Thanks for the name BTW.
Actually I couldn't find any scanlators for the series, but u can find Del Rey's releases on the net somewhere…or buy them.
I think I'll watch the OVA as I found them in this one site.
I DID see the first ep. and the fact that Saki WASN'T dating Kousaka from the begging turned off for some sad reason lol.
Still I laughed my ass off whe-! Kousaka announced that he's working with a company that makes Eroge games XD
Also I LOVED Ogiue's cosplays, she looks freaking cute  -
This was a pretty good series. The early parts with all the bizarre personalities and ridiculous references was certifiably great. I think Kio has good enough characterization that the few serious characters remained strong and believable once he started to phase out most of the otaku material. Definitely took a dip near the end with the corny romance, but it was still good.
The anime was just another weak, dime-a-dozen low budget adaptation though.

-
I remember reading it but loosing interests around volume 4.

While I haven't read Vol. 9 yet, I liked the whole romance thing, mainly cuz of Ogiue and how she felt distanced from the whole world and such.
-
I liked the first season. Second season is looking like a bit of a bore, even though Comi-ket (I think) is supposed to be an exciting thing. It has become drama and the characters are just getting annoying with how they act.
-
Yea…Kugayama's stuttering way too much in the second season...(Maybe it's just because he's talking more). And the opening theme probably won't grow on me as well as the first did.
-
Yeah, I liked Box from Akihabara @ Deep so I thought I could get used to the constant stuttering. But nope, I just can't get into it, at all. Plus, his character seems like his character is much more cold hearted than I remember.
Though, I do love the OP for some reason. Though, the ED is lacking. I'll probably end up dropping it if it doesn't pick up soon, to my dismay.
Edit: I lied, I am keeping up with this for the sheer fact that there was a trap.

In fear of making another thread, Episode 4 of the Second Season of Genshiken:
! So, uhh, the episode revolved around two of the the Tanaka and Ohno. This was realized by some actions that I didn't think were going to happen, at all. My favorite line of this episode was,"Even having sex while cosplaying…if you want to, I'm always ready." It wasn't the same feel as a confession in an H - it was a sorta 'keep me on the edge of my seat to see what is going to happen' sorta thing. I was interested in latter half of the episode with those two either just kissing or possibly doing more than that and the transfer from her noises to Sasahara drinking some milk.
-
Yay, a Genshiken thread! I absolutely love this series, with its fearless portrayal of ero-game hunting.
Also awesome? Everyone who gets a girlfriend gets laid.
-
Wait the 2nd season has off-screen sex scenes?
-
The first Genshiken season was funny.
However, some parts of the second one seem so satirical and parodied that it got ridiculous. "LETS COSPLAY WHILE WE HAVE SEX" -EYE ROLL-
-
This second season is indeed very disappointing…And that's all I can say thus far.
-
Eh, I still enjoy it. It takes a much more serious tone and it only funny from time to time. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy it, of course. It is just very different from the first season.
-
I loled at Sasahara and Kuuchi playing a quick game of KoF XI in the OVA XD.
Meh will watch Season 2, since Season 1's first ep. was different from the manga. Art seems more HQ or something too in Season 2. -
i'm very fond of season 2. i think it's exactly the same mood as season one.
-
Yea, now that I watched episode 4, I see it coming back to its former glory.
Most of it was hilarious, and they had the decency to not show Ohno and Cosplay-Man having sex at the end (which I suspected would happen when I saw the amount of fanservices in this second season).
-
Wow….. the most recent episode... does that qualify as off-screen?
-
I feel officially gay after actually watching that episode.
This second season's fanservices have just reached a new, morbid level.

i watched it with a friend of mine who doesn't know anything about anime and now he's kinda looking at me strangely…
-
So far so good, but they're moving at a glacial pace. While the filler they've used to pad out their one-chapter-if-that-per-episode approach has been quite good thus far, they should really cut it out and just get on with it. At the rate they're going, they'll barely even make it to the beginning of volume 8. (The manga has 9 volumes.)
-
You never know, SaiyaJedi, they could do like they did with the first series and have a 3 episode OVA to go after the end of it.
-
This week's episode was excellent imo.
The season could of ended on that episode and I would of been satisfied. Hope it stays good.
(Just to clear this up: I haven't read the manga)
-
^The manga is 9 volumes long and righ now I think they're IN VOLUme…5 or early vol. 6.
Anyway Ep. 6 cracked me up, the GNP joke, Ogiue at the Comifes & all that Ogiue sex fantasies was too much XD.
Also-
COSPLAY TIME! -
I'm really liking Genshiken - having read the manga up to volume 8 (haven't had the chance to read 9 quite yet) and watched every episode of the anime that's been made so far.
Anime version of Ogiue is even more hilarious than the manga one. I'm cracking up constantly by her trying to hide her otakuness and attempts to cosplay.
-
Latest episode didn't do it for me at all, disappointing.
-
What happens in it?
-
! It is what I call the 'Cosplay Episode'. Ohno finally takes over the club as the head chair, it is mainly about her and that rather annoying, hyper character (Manabu Kuchiki) fighting and he eventually 'saves' one of her cosplays from a robber. Then through misunderstanding, he ends up wearing it after he gets into a huff.
! It was just pretty boring cept for two parts in the whole episodes. And I also rather hate Manabu Kuchiki. He is just too annoying. -
Oh I remember that one from the manga. …but I agree Kuchi is an ass, I wish he was never introduced though oddly enough I find him OK in the anime for some reason O_o.
-
I thought Kuchi was the only good part about that episode and alot of episodes.
Like when he asked Ohno, straight up, if she was going out with Tanaka was hilarious…
Really, I think I just like the interactions between him and females.
-
Heh yeah, he's the true example of an Otaku. Too bad he may never have a real sex life :V
-
Really, I think I just like the interactions between him and females.
To each their own. I guess I am not looking for the otaku character that doesn't really have much of a chance. Specially since his social skills are rather lack luster. On the other hand, most of the other ones have some sort of social skills. Maybe I am looking for too unrealistic?
-
I liked the latest episode. Kousaka's job revelation was great. Poor Kasukabe!
And looks like next week we'll finally meet Ohno's American friends in anime too.
-
^Kickass worth 16 chars.
-
American friend. This will be interesting, to say the least. I am sorta looking forward to seeing some relationships develop.
-
Wow! I must have watched so much anime, I can understand japanese… oh wait. XP
Anyway, that was quite the linguistic adventure.
-
Episode 10 in one word: Engrish.
Really like Suzy, but Angela…
-
Is Suzy the one who said the Evangelion line?
-
Yeah and had the two Keroro References. Oh man, she is so cute..she can only speak in Animu phrases..which isn't surprising to me because I am sure some people go to Japan and do just that.
Angela…I don't even want to talk about her.
-
I don't quite understand why Angela must speak Engrish as well, isn't she supposed to be American?
But yeah, Sue especially was great and I thought the scenes they added compared to the manga were fun little touches too. Poor Madarame, he was so out of it when Angela started flirting with him.
-
It's amazing how everytime I watch an anime (except G Gundam) with Americans in it, we're either depicted as extremely violent/dumb or complete sluts.
Also, Kasukabe's VO's English was better than Angela's. Japan is disappointing me.
