I wonder if when Sonic says that Zavok hates fun is a reference to that Archie Comic Panel.

Oh great they brought that back huh?[/QUOTE
They were bound to due to Mania's cliffhanger true ending.Beyond cameos, guests spots….or illusions like Zavok.
I can't wait to see Infinite in the next Olympics title lol.
Given we kind of got that with Eggmanland and the theme park from Colors would be a bit redundant…..though with them bringing back Green Hill Zone and Classic Sonic that'd be a bit of a double standard.
I didn't actually mean that we needed another theme park beyond maybe one zone, that's already a bit old. I really meant zones that capture how vibrant, colorful, mechanical, zany, and narcissistic Eggman's territories tend to be. That really shows he made his signature on the world he conquered. Not Green Hill with sand that is only in the background and a slightly chilly Chemical Plant. Why is Chemical Plant even like that instead of being fully active or upgraded?
More like Sega won't reevaluate the series creative direction because they're scared of publishing ambitious Sonic titles.
They gave all this talk two or three years ago about making their developing teams take more time with increased qualitative standards to make better games. Glad to see it was only talk.

I think they did give the Forces and Mania teams more time, but there just isn't any real talent at Sonic Team anymore.

This is rather embarassing.
-
While Forces was obviously the worst, that just made the whole of Boost Sonic'dom look terrible to me. It must suck being an animator/coder; working on enemy design and attack patterns, knowing that almost no gamers will ever see it as they blast through them.
-
Sonic Forces is going to be 25 bucks at Best Buy on Black Friday.
Edit: it's also scheduled to be 30 at Gamestop and Walmart.
-
Yeah, I'm seeing Sonic Forces for about half off on Amazon right now ($30 CDN, so about $25 USD). I would never pay full price for this thing, but would any of you guys say it's worth it at that price?

Judging by the Switch demo… no. Wait a year and it'll be 15 or less.
-
Yes, this is real.
It's free to download as DLC.
I hate this game.
-
This is what happens when you indugle a toxic, ravenous fanbase. "You should totally give Sonic a gun!" Odd how it's right around the time they caved that Sonic games went to complete shit. A complete coincidence I'm sure.

Eh, the fans have gone on to create great things like Sonic Mania and Freedom Planet.
I think this is a mess entirely of Sega's own making. -
To paraphrase
A fan can be cool and make a nice spinoff game.
Fandom is dumb panicky dangerous toxic animals and you know it. -
Eh, the fans have gone on to create great things like Sonic Mania and Freedom Planet.
I think this is a mess entirely of Sega's own making.06 was a mess of their own making, being reduced to publishing games after making consoles is a mess of their own making, this? I'm not so sure on.
-

I think this is a mess entirely of Sega's own making.Yes it's Sega's fault for indulging the toxic, ravenous fanbase. Not every fan is part of that fanbase. Someone who spends years trying to replicate the physics engine of the original Sonic games to faithfully reproduce the style is kind of the opposite of "give me Sanic with gunz and my personal furry OC!!!!!1!11!1!!"

To clarify, I'm not defending the fanbase. I'm referencing the long chain of bad decisions that resulted in Sega's fall from grace and eventual complete loss of talent.
-
So um… I kinda need to step up and eat my words here.
I bought Sonic Forces on Black Friday and it arrived today. It's a bit easy and the controls in the 2D sections take some getting used to, but the game's really good and anyone who wants another 3D sonic game in the style of Generations should definitely buy it.I think there are three key reasons for all the bad press it got:
1.) Sega's refusal to send out review copies made us all suspicious and forced reviewers to rush their reviews.
2.) The awful demo with a time limit so restrictive that it was difficult for people to get a feel for the game.
3.) We're all still pissed about Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom (among other failures and disappointments).I'd give it 8/10. Not as good as Mania, but still worth playing (even if it's a bit short).
-
I'm sure the game is playable and perhaps even somewhat enjoyable. It's not a broken mess like 06 or Boom. But I'm not supporting anything it stands for by purchasing it new.
-
Almost anybody who's a passionate Sonic fan at all will NEVER let '06 (and to an extent, Boom: RoL) go, despite said game being a little more than a decade ago. I learned to live with that rock hard fact. As for the meme DLC or just the games embracing the memes (whether intentional or not) in general, I always viewed that as a double-edged sword.
-
Aside from Mania, the Sonic Boom TV show is the best thing about Sonic right now.

Super Sonic is free DLC for Sonic Forces for the next two weeks. After that he'll cost $1.99.
This is fucked up even for Sega.
-
Hmm seems they're taking a page out of Atlus's playbook.
-
Well, it's a good thing I downloaded the DLC before this news came to me.

Looks like they are trying to go the EA route.

Bunch of announcements are flooding in.
A physical release of Sonic Mania is being released for PS4 XBONE and Switch. Will contain an artbook, new modes and playable Ray and Mighty!
5 Sonic Mania minisodes are coming following Sonic's adventures in Forces' dystopia. Same style as Mania OP.
Some new car racing game hinted at with only the "R" in the logo showing. Same as Sonic R font.
-
Hyped for the mania + physical release and the cartoons.
Wonder how extensive encore mode changes will be.
-
That R seems disturbingly familiar.
https://mynintendonews.com/2018/03/16/sega-confirms-that-a-new-sonic-racing-game-is-in-development/ -
Sonic Mania Plus' content will also be free DLC from day one for everybody who has already downloaded Sonic Mania.
I would have preferred Amy, Metal Sonic, the Chaotix, or the Hooligans over Mighty and Ray. But as long as they have unique abilities and aren't just resins of Sonic and Knuckles, I'm good.
The new Sonic Racing game is confirmed to neither be a sequel nor remaster. I was hoping for this racing game to take place on-foot like in Sonic R, but it is almost impossible to make that work for a well-balanced racing experience. If the game is willing to dig REALLY deep into the series' lore of locales and characters, like having Fang the Weasel and having no more than two Green Hill clone stages, I might buy it.

Maybe the car revving in the trailer is Amy Rose's car and everyone else runs. :ninja:
All I know is that the sonic R song has been on loop in my brain all day: -
Mania update, nice. Racing sequel, also nice. I'm one of the few people that actually really liked R.

They balanced it out before by actually designing the stages to have shortcuts that some characters could take easier than others. Like Knuckles' glide or anyone that could fly could take a shortcut over water, but Sonic couldn't.
Of course, as you unlocked all the hidden characters they slowly replaced the others and the final characters like Metal and Super Sonic were just flat out broken because they over-powered them like crazy… but between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Robotnick, etc it was pretty balanced out.
As I recall anyway, I haven't played it in forever.
-
I don't think the racing game is going to replicate Sonic R, but that doesn't mean they won't replicate Sonic R's soundtrack. Honestly, that's all I want.
-

They probably would be in if they were also in SegaSonic The Hedgehog.
Guess we won't be getting oshidos and waaaaaaaaaaah's though.

Saves the cooler stuff for sequels, I suppose.

Mighty was. In Knuckles' Chaotix. But now it's non-canon.
-

Actually I rather suspect that as far as Mania is concerned, Knuckles' Chaotix is not only canon but the last thing that is canon.
-
A "racing generations" game that paid homage to past Sonic racing games and other spinoffs (while being much better than them, hopefully) would be pretty awesome.
-

Why would you pay homage to those games if most of them were sub-par?

Some of them were good or average, and a lot of people have nostalgia for Sonic R/Spinball/Drift/Mean Bean Machine/Shuffle/Battle/etc.
Plus, you can only reference Sonic 2 so many times before it starts to get a bit stale. -

So, Mania expansion DLC (with an available hard copy) and a new racing game for Sonic this year eh?
I wonder if Mania Plus will add brand new, completely original stages since that would, in my opinion, totally justify the expansion. As for the racing game, in recent years most of them didn't let me down before so I'm positive this one will be almost as fun as Riders and Zero Gravity or both All-Star Racing games.
-
@The:

I doubt that. They should save all-new stages for a sequel anyways. Lots of people have been clamoring for a physical release since the game was announced so now they are finally delivering on that with a playable Mighty and Ray, as well as what appears to be a four player competitive mode.

Its free DLC rather than a purchase, it doesn't need to justify anything. It's just new bonus content and new characters to play.
Much like Freedom Planet which seems like its still not done even though it's been out for years and the sequel is on the way. Or Shovel Knight and its ongoing near endless expansions.

The Freedom Planet DLC will be the last thing ever released for the Wii U at this rate.
-
Mania expansion will actually be paid DLC.
I'll probably end up buying the physical switch version, as I really wanted a physical copy to begin with, but I'll hold off on how until I see how expansive encore mode is and how differently Mighty and Ray play. I have faith in taxman though, everything he's done sonic related so far - the 1, 2, CD remakes and Mania - have been stellar.
-
Mania expansion will actually be paid DLC.
Oh. They have changed the announcement.
Well, that sucks.
Yeah I don't think I care about those characters enough to buy them.
-
The sounds of fans furiously drawing lewd art of the two new characters fucking could probably have been heard from space when they announced them.
