The Princess and the Frog is supposed to be what brings back the Disney Renaissance for a few reasons:
1. obviously the return to 2d IN HOUSE animation, which means the WDFA is re-opening their in house animation department (which they closed after Home on the Range) Not only that, but they have to make a completely new animation system from the ground up to work with, as the old CAPS system is really out of date.
2. John Lasseter, the new head honcho of the animation department, is making it a point to make sure that Disney animation is good again. And this guy has been leading Pixar for all these years, so he obviously has some idea what he's doing.
3. This is going to be a broadway style musical, as most classic Disney animated movies are (not all, but most of the really famous ones are) No one has done an animated musical in ages, let alone a really good one.
4. The creative team on the movie is Ron Clements and John Musker who are basically Disney's go-to team when they want a good movie. The two were in charge of Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Hercules. (They also did the horrific Treasure Planet, but the less said about that piece of shit the better) And originally Alan Menken was gonna go the music, but it was changed to Randy Newman (who is actually a pretty good choice, his jazz music is pretty good)
There's a whole bunch of legal insider stuff going on as well, but I know about as much about it as anyone else on the outside.
That picture gets me excited, very pretty and whimsical. It's only one picture, but I like what I see so far.
