@Impel:
I've also mangaged to incorporate my own pregnant fetsihism into the story line.
That's… Promising... I guess.... :wassat:

Well, I want to do something like that, but I can't draw and all of my ideas revolve around canon characters and canon storylines rather than original ones :(
Hey Captain Shmeckie can Glass Head make a cameo in your comic? He'd be all minding his own business in the background like pandaman or something.
…S'at serious?
This is the second chapter. I focus on Jakobi's past. Some parts aren't clear now, but I'll be tying up the loose ends later on.
The whole Jakobi and David name-scheme seems very simmilar to Debit and Jaserdo from D. Gray-man, since Debit's name used to be David. But still, very nice. I think I've figured out how I'm going to end my manga for real, but the problem is to make it good, I'll probably have one major charecter die, but I can't think of who. Anyway, the story-line is coming along swimmingly, and I'm about to pull of a Hollow-Ichigo scenario with the main charecter where he gets vampire powers, which have a Hollow-Ichigo style effect on him.
Wow, Shmeckie, awesome drawings! That vampire pirate rocks. If you ever color it, I'm sure we'd all like to see it!
Okay, I've decided to at least tell you guys the names of the main characters in my story. The titles are given to them by the main character herself.
! Shana Baraka: The Greatest Leader
Maras Tyveculus: Token Swordsman
Angus N. Cheese: Goblin Mage
Jed Tadelesh: The Unlucky Grappler
Lei Xin Qian: Spirited Weapons Expert
Ivan Liliha: Wildfire Cleric
Sithi Knetchiad: Stoic Khee'blar Archer
Erin Ulicia Banning: The Thief who Stole the Moon
Oan Ekreat: Dryad Superstar
I do hope that you guys can catch some of the puns. And most of the characters have part of their name or title essentially describing their power or skill. Free cookie to the first person who figures out Shana's power!
P.S. This is my first spoiler tag, so it's probably messed up somehow.
Hey Captain Shmeckie can Glass Head make a cameo in your comic? He'd be all minding his own business in the background like pandaman or something.
Noo!! I want Glass Head in MY other comic: Raibaru.
I just started a Naruto parody doujin yesterday (in me art thread). I've been trying to cram in all the practice I can before I begin my own comic.
If it's anything like that Lee vs. Sai comic you drew, I know it's going to punch my balls off and rock the house.
Noo!! I want Glass Head in MY other comic: Raibaru.
Hey, man, don't worry! Glass Head travels all around the universe, and through time too! He can still go to your comic!
In fact… don't tell anyone, but I'm done the first chapter.
Speaking of done, my latest page is done, as well. Just click the first link in my sig!
New pages arrive every Friday, and as I get better and faster, I'll start putting up new pages 2, or even 3, times a week.
So, which link is it from the link you get on your signature?
Man if only I could draw. I was daydreaming about one of my manga's fights today, god if only I could draw it. Imagine Smoker vs Ace, but with Lightning vs Clouds.
So, which link is it from the link you get on your signature?
The one that says "My Comic" should take you to the front page. You can click on the link in the update to view the page, or see the whole thing, in the "The Comic" section.
All right then.

If I typed as fast as I write, I'd have put up page 63 of my book today… Alas, I haven't gotten past page 3 on the computer. >_< Either way, I'm only about a quarter done with the story. I'm loving the new study hall I'm in, I usually do 2-4 pages in the time I'm in there. I'm going to put up the plot and stuff as soon as my friend's scanner starts working again.
Yeah, it's beginning to seem more and more like Jagged will be a story than a manga.
I've been working on my manga for two years.
And it appears I have many rivals. Ah well, that just makes it all the more intersting. ^^
I'll post a few scans later. ^_^
cool. Nothing helps do something like a rivalry.
hmmm, I wouldn't mind doing a manga sometime, but only with Neko, so ask her.
No, don't think I will. Can you stop me? No. No you cannot.
farts in Impel's direction that is what I feel about you and your life, so please, jump off a cliff, you won't be missed, have a nice day!
I attempted to sketch Kumo. I still suck at proportions :(
He looks a lot older than how he seemed in your story.
He's based off Part 2 Naruto. But he actually looks younger when my story starts. Theres also a several year time skip… where he looks alot older.
The reason for him acting so young, is because he was locked up in that lab for awhile, basically making him 3 years younger then he really is.
There's not really a time-skip period in my…yet. There is a part where the main charecter trains for a while and comes back stronger than ever, and he sort of evolves through messages his teachers tell him.
Hasn't that been done before in, like, everything? Hell, even Excel Saga…
My time skip.. I think it's a bit different. Kumo takes over the Earth Country, and prepares a full scale attack on the Sky Country. He doesn't exactly get stronger, but he is more experienced. In the first part of my story, he's similar to Naruto and Luffy in one. A bumbling hero who can get things done if he tries really hard.
In part 2, his powers are completly under control, and he becomes more a more reserved fighter, since he now has control over weather, not just clouds, which he gains at the end of Part 1. Now Kumo is the supreme general of the Earth and Ocean Country alliance, and wages war against the Sky Country. Basically, Kumo becomes a badass leader, who wishes to control the entire world (and he will succeed, no matter what path he must take.)
The story in my series is the same style as One Piece. The characters stay in one place, beat villains there and become acquainted with the characters there.
One arc I plan on doing is gonna be a mix of Little Garden, The Seceret of NIMH, and some Lost references thrown in.
Mine is sort of a little bit of very thing. Mostly the powers and the charecter design. One villian I made his power basically FMA-style alchemy, one uy I modeled after Hiei, and one I modeled after Orochimaru when he wore bandages.
I don't really try to "model" anybody after anybody. I mean, sure you can draw comparisons, but nobody is genuinely modelled after anybody. I try to give people original powers and appearances. The main character is pretty plain in appearance, but his powers and background are pretty unique. I made one person who's supposed to be a brawler an alcoholic(for comic relief, lol) and one villain who is perfect. Not supposed to be or anything, he is perfection incarnate. Seriously, you'll have to see it to believe it. I'm on page 65… about 1/5 of the way through, w00t!
So, now in the writing phase, I'm sort of at the "boss battle" of the arc. Here I'm trying to make it so the hero kinda gets a Hollow-Ichigo thing going where he beomes part-vampire.
A lot of you guys seem to be taking story elements from other shows. That's… Not a good sign...
I dunno, aside from the cloud powers, I didn't really use any ideas from another anime. Sure time skips are used often, but the idea that the main character goes through something that causes him to want to take over the world, and unite under one empire, is something pretty unique I think.
And the fact that he goes from what he is in chapter 1, to a serious, and great leader, makes the character development all the more sweet.
The character designs are based on others, because I cannot draw. I like Kishi's drawing style, so I think I'll be basing mine off his.
Here are a few more characters from my series…
– This is "Ammonay". He's sopposed to be a spirit-hamster-thing. XD
– This is sopposed to be "Kendonay". He's a spirit who's taken a chicken-form, as weird as that may sound. Lol.
A lot of you guys seem to be taking story elements from other shows. That's… Not a good sign...
Or its a first step.
Depends really.
I know I naturally take stuff I suddenly love and incorporate them in one way or another, until of course reality hits me upside the head and it says "Bitch, your cheating."
Than you take that incorporation and warp it, warp it, and warp it. Until it no longer has any relation to what it came from, and hopefully no relation to anything except your story.
I got one of best characters/storylines of all from at first copying Colonel Kurtz (Apocalypse Now). Than chipping away at it and adding onto it, now its something awesomly different.
Storytellings alot like sculpture in that sense.
So as long as you develop what you borrow (unless its a flat out homage) than theres no problem.
IMO.
Whoops-a-doodle, double post…
Holy shit, I've finally got a picture to show off! I did not draw this, all credit is given to my friend Matt.
!
He's the main character of my story. Here are his vital stats:
Full Name: Seth Knight
Age: 19
Height: 5'9
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Blue
Weight: 129 lbs.
Blood type: B
Dominant hand: Left
Race: Nifllian
Special abilities: The ability to freeze things, like creating sheets of ice on surfaces, making icicles out of puddles of water, that sort of stuff.
Strengths: Calm, serious, excellent footwork, very fast running speed, dexterous with his sword.
Weaknesses: Does not have excellent upper arm strength, cannot withstand warmer temperatures.
Seth Knight is the main character of my story. (Tenative name is "Hekigankoumo", a japanese word that means both "Blue eyes and red hair" and "A westerner" referring to both me and Seth at once :P) He was born on the island if Niflheim, a permanently winter island. He spent most of his life there, and for the most part didn't really care about the outside world, until a human came to his small village after the war ended. The man's name was Ronan, and he was a hero of the civil war, and for the most part, an interesting man. He immediately took a liking to Seth, and Seth personally was fascinated by the tales Ronan told him about the world outside of his little island. After a while, Seth began to consider boradening his own horizens, and asked Ronan to train him in his art, the sword. After three years, Ronan left the island, and Seth left a year later, with only a sword his father made for him and the clothes on his back. Unfortunately, when he arrived in a new land, he experienced fear and hate for race for the first time in his life. Immediately, he became disheartened and sad that such a fantastic place could be so harsh to him.
Eh… it kind of sucks to leave off here, but I'm afraid I won't be able to stop if I keep writing more... I'll post some stuff later. Tell me what you think! I accept anything from "You suck, die on the side of a road." to "That's awesome! You're the next Eiichiro Oda!"
BTW, the die on the end of his sword is his grandfather's. He was an incurable gambler. It's for luck.
I really like his design, but his powers are alittle cliche. However I'm one to talk, with my Air/Cloud power based main character.
If only everyone could make a character as unique as someone whos body is made of rubber.
I try to do what I can. The ice powers are there because his race's body emperature is very low and stuff… I'm very tired as of now, and the explanation is long and tiring to explain... I'll spit it out tomorrow when I'm not half-asleep. On another note, if you look carefully in the upper-left corner of the drawing I put up, you'll see Matt's drawing of an anime cat. I find it funny...
BTW rusashi, clouds are hella original compared to some of the stuff I've come up with...
Or its a first step.
Depends really.

That's one way to look at it, and I agree in some sense. Usually, I see the effect of something I like, and strive to achieve that, but I rarely use the ideas themselves. Here's a good example…
In my comic's mythos, I have a race called Elementals; human beings born as incarnations of a single power of nature. Alot like the Logias. Thing is, I came up with this idea way before I even even saw One Piece. Of course, having similar story ideas to another story is normal. But when I saw the Logia powers, it did make me think "yeah, look at how this guy has his element users use powers relating to their element, as well. That's fresh, and definately a good idea". Okay, I don't talk like that, but still... Combine that with what I learned from American comics (i.e. using a little scientific knowledge to see how greatly you can stretch a themed power), and I devised how to set up the Elementals' power. Ideas are fine, but I see alot of people yanking entire concepts outright. Or just relying on cliches.
I will say, though, that Oda was a huge inspiration for me in terms of character and story design. I know, that's easy to say in a One Piece forum, but it's true. I saw how this guy made his characters so unique, and his stories unlike anything I had ever seen, and it made me really see that I should also try thinking outside the box. While I would never yank anything from any stories he's done, I see how he makes his characters look stand-out and unique, and it's an inspirational kick in the pants. makes me say "hey, look at that guy! Looks a little plain, doesn't he!? Betcha you can spice that design up a little bit!" Or "Hey! What kind of ability/power/trait is that?! That's plain! It's been done! Give it a unique touch! Think of something you have NEVER seen done before! Now do it, and make it cool!" Thanks to that, hell, not only was I able to come up with a guy that has salt powers (a Salt Elemental), but thanks to some scientific know-how, I found ways to make that powerful as hell.
So, while I fully recommend trying to learn from others, and trying to make characters and stories that cause people to react to your works the same way you reacted to those works, it's never good to yank a large chunk of an idea. Basically, if you can say "it's basically like (insert show or character here)", then you need to work on it.
Agreed.
Though I incorporate ideas, thats not all there is to it.
I incorporate charecter design (what they look like, layman) and the whole Hollow-Ichigo thing, but that's about it. I think most of the abilities I give the charecters are quite original.
Character design's the same thing. If you need to yank aesthetics from something else, that also means it needs work.
Hey, most of it is my own!…kinda. I do a lot of rearanging with them. The only reason one of mine (I'm just going to refer to him by his name, Leon, from now on) is only like Hiei because of the black spikey hair and he loves to fight. Other than that, nothing.
You guys are really awesome, you know. Recently my friend said I'm too logical, and when I look at myself I see it's kinda true. If there isn't a reason, I just can bring it to my mind. No way I can be creative as you.
Let alone a rubber boy.
That said, I think it's half positive too. It's like, no plot holes! Yay!
I'm going a little smoothly with the story now. It might be a little annoying whe I explain almost anything as the storyteller [leaving things that actually connect to the plot], but I can't wait untill someone asks, can I?
They say if I put high goals, I get middle ones easily. So my goal is to have character developments as good as Hajime no Ippo's, and as creative and throughly as Hunter x Hunter. Meh, at least I can dream.
~Generic Soda: Your idea's very good. I like how the character changed because of someone else. Keep going with that!
If I get a little more details, I'll post it here. Mainly I need to know alot about how Energy is created in the body, which involves alot of biology and I'm still in 9th grade.
As I said before, the main idea is someone who had some accident in a radioactive place, and he now can't produce his own energy from food. Basically, a human parasite. So he actually cheats while fighting dudes who had all their hard work to get strong while his flow of energy is superv and he can upgrade himself easily. He gets a serious character development because of it and now wants to beat the crap out of nature by squeesing every mystery it has.
Alot of reasoning is involved around it but I left it out purposely, hope you like the idea.
Yeah, I've had to incorporate science and history a lot in mine too. Mostly, because there's this whole thing where a guy can control his bone and flesh, but I thought that the brain didn't count as flesh, which sort of left a plot hole. I found out and changed it to muscle, but it made me research stuff a lot. The most research I had to do was with this one guy who sort of controls the chemical properties of stuff, and I had to figure out how sodium and phosphorous explode.
@Rai:
~Generic Soda: Your idea's very good. I like how the character changed because of someone else. Keep going with that!
If you could see me now, I'd be doing Luffy's trademark ear-to-ear grin. Thanks! I've been working on this for nearly two years, and it's really satisfying to get a great response after all that hard work!
Right, now, I'm going to explain some stuffs about how the world Seth lives in works.
"Sol" and "Elementalists" - Sol is energy that resides in the air. You could say that it is the essence of life. The human body absorbs it to stay alive, and utilizes small amounts of it to perform actions, like running and the like. As one ages though, their skin's texture changes, making it harder to absorb Sol form the air, thus, why people die at older ages. However, when a baby is born they can absorb Sol from the air into thier own bodies. when that happens, an Elementalist is born. Elementalists are essentially humans who can use magic by destroying Sol within their bodies to utilize its elemental properties. Because they are capable of destroying Sol, the body recognizes that it may be depleted of energy and "learns" how to manufacture its own supply of Sol. Where you are born in the world, the type of Sol your parents have, and other small properties factor towards the type of magic you can use. For example, one noble family utilizes Electrical magic because of the area they live is where a great concentration of electircal Sol is. Sol is really a mystery, but for the most part, just being born in a certain area will not let you use certain magic. Like air, it moves about freely all over the world. A non-human though, like Seth, can not use magic, even if they had absorbed extra Sol when they were born, cannot use magic simply because they cannot destroy their own Sol at will. A human who was not born an Elementalist can not use magic, because the the body would filter out its elemental properties-much like a strainer trapping pasta in it while releasing the water-since they would identify it as "foreign bodies attempting to enter the body". Since they didn't experience when they were born-when the immune system is least effective-they would mistake it as a threat and destroy it.
Any questions, just PM me.
On a side note, Seth's powers are not "Logia-type", meaning he can't pull an Aokiji and be invincible.
Nice. Like the whole "huge sides" thing. I'm doing that too, but with like 3.5 sides, not counting the few super-powerful individuals.
