Define 'mainstream'.

The main bulk of CN viewers. If the ratings from their desired demographic don't show up for a show they air, it will get the axe. It's just how it is.
It's… not hard to understand. Everyone should know that a common channel like CN runs on ratings. That's one of the first things you need to know about the tv biz.
For example, to make this simple, One Piece was most likely cut from CN's line-up because it didn't earn high enough ratings to satisfy them. Not enough "kiddies" were watching it.
-
-
Not this "kiddies" shit again.

I love it when people ignore stuff written out for them.
@DeityofDestiny:It's like a magazine poll. You could give all false info, and unless they looked into it, they wouldn't even know. Combined with the fact that only houses with the Nielsen's Box affect the ratings….
-
viewers = commercial viewers = more money = total drama action
-
But One Piece has the potential to be a media giant among the likes of Naruto and DBZ down in America.
I always said if we can just make it to the Davy Back fight, then we would never have to worry about it being taken off the air again, because everything during (and after) that is non-stop action. By the time we reached Luffy vs Lucci, One Piece would've been huge down here.
Im surprised CN didnt give the Funi dub a proper chance.

Well, that's just how it is. There's still the chance that it might air on another channel later, though, and even if it isn't, there's always the DVDs. (And a series CAN survive on DVDs only, especially one with such a big fanbase… Even though it's not AS big as Naruto, Bleach, Death Note and stuff like that.) Really, I still think One Piece will do more than well enough for FUNi to keep releasing it. It's kinda like the Dragonball-thing: no matter who dubs it, or how outrageously badly treated it is, it'll still be popular, because it just is "that good". Even the 4KIDS-DUB got decent ratings, after all.
…Though I couldn't care less about the TV-version, seeing how I can't watch it anyway...
-
Yeah, but CN is the best network for exposing anime to the US.
OP does have a dedicated fanbase, and if it were only as long as Naruto or Dragonball Z, or (especially) Death Note, I'd think that Funi would continue it straight until the end.
But an anime that's 360+ and growing is gonne be very expensive to keep up. I just hope it does make it on another network (preferably not Nick), and finds success, but I honestly cant imagine where it would go.
Did CN ever say anything about putting anime on AS now that Toonami is gone?
-
No, but they said Adult Swim would still air anime and bring in some new ones. It COULD mean anything.
-
I would watch one piece at 5 am wouldnt you?
-
There are still some people that think that 4kids still does One piece.
-
^
you sir do not deserve a "post new reply" option.
-
One Piece does not represent where CN wants to go for the time being.
-
Like Huber said CN wants to air their own stupidity like the new saturday crap they are going to air.I sware CN had their run of good shows but now aint the time for this bull they cant make good shows anymore and it shows Chower,Flap Jack(the OP fetus that was never born),idk CN is just in hell right now and they want anything to work they seriously dont care anymore.

Flapjack is an example of them not being able to make good shows? honestly.
-
and it shows Chower,Flap Jack(the OP fetus that was never born)
For one thing, Chowder is one of CN's most popular shows, the demographics were so good they called in for a season 2, and there currently making plans for a season 3.
Flap Jack is a good show, some of the episodes are kind of slow, but when did the ratings on the show ever get "bad", it has really good ratings and in my opinion is a great show.
lol fetus, you sir, deserve to be muted 16 times.

He speaks the truth. There are people who couldn't care less about their country's dub. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if there were people on THIS FORUM who still think 4kids dubs it, if only because they are to ignorant to click on "Funimation Episode Discussion."
-
Chowder and Flapjack aren't bad.
-
Yeh but 4kids doesnt dub, they mutilate.
-
They have to pay to air One Piece. They don't need to for Chowder or Flapjack.
-
They have to pay to show naruto dont they?
-
They have to pay to show naruto dont they?
They don't need to pay to air anything. They need to pay to get the episodes of Naruto and OP, but not to air them. They could air any of the episodes of OP (That they already have) without paying a cent.
-
Yes, but Naruto is worth the money. One Piece was not bringing in what they wanted so they chose to send the money they could have bought more One Piece with to their original shows which they don't have to acquire…as them only them completely.
-

It just shows how desperate CN is for ratings when they can't air OP every once in a while. Even Jetstream would be sufficient, and all you need is one successful show to make Jetstream be worthwhile for CN.
-
Well, it depends on TOEI as well and what they want.
Then again, CN still needs to pay to put One Piece on Jetstream.
-
i apologize for my stupid comments people ill keep quiet for now until i can find anything important

OH SO THATS HOW IT IZ HUH
-
Yea got a problem with that HUH!?
dont cross the line!!!

And what would that be excactly?
-
I love it when people ignore stuff written out for them.
It doesn't matter. That's what they need to go by to earn money. They're not going to air a show that earns bad ratings. It's not good from a buisness stand-point.
… Advertising should remedy that, but CN is stupid. >_>
Although, advertising doesn't always work.
Anyways, I know that there are many flaws with the tv ratings system, but ultimately, it doesn't matter. It's what networks have to go by. It's how they make money.
-
Eh, I won't say it'll never be on Cartoon Network again. They could still give it a second chance, replacing something that gets worse ratings.
Not likely though.
-
@Sandai:
And what would that be excactly?
Naruto.
16 Characters.
-
Money does make the world go round…
-
I wish I had money… :(
Seriously, I know someone said they saw Naruto airing on AS. It isn't. I checked into it.
-
They Might have been talking about that one time that The last few shows on Toonami randomly had the "[adult swim]" thing at the bottom of the screen.
-

Keep in mind too that a huge part about it is the advertisers themselves. If, for some reason, they decided they didn't want to pay to air advertisements during OP (probably due to low ratings) then the show will be canceled. It could have been another reason too that they decided not to advertise, I just can't imagine for what.
-
Well, I'm still gonna hold out just a little hope that One Piece eventually gets back on TV. If it does…great. If it doesn't...oh, well. Cartoon Network just isn't the same anymore...the great original series they used to make and the original Toonami were the best things on TV, but now "CN" continues on the downward spiral into entropy and masextinction.
-
massive mansex what?
-
I believe he meant Mass Extinction a bit of an overstatement if you ask me.
-
Yeah, I dont want CN to go extinct.
I just want the to stop sucking.
-
CN never really sucked, it's just they dropped a lot of there good shows.
-

Son, you've been swimming in denial for far too long.
-
Let it go…..
CN will still be going though so it doesnt matter it will eventually bring back One Piece im sure i mean they brought back Cowboy Bebob on AS maybe OP can squirm its way in there too -

Next week it will be back to AS's regular schedule.
-

CN will still be going though so it doesnt matter it will eventually bring back One Piece im sure i mean they brought back Cowboy Bebob on AS maybe OP can squirm its way in there tooAlso Cowboy Bebop was a popular series on Adult Swim so they could afford to bring it back so many times.
-
@Sandai:
Also Cowboy Bebop was a popular series on Adult Swim so they could afford to bring it back so many times.
AS doesnt want anime on there block, hell, I bet AS was mad when they found out the winning schedule had the amount of anime that it had.
-
Just because their recent schedule change throws their anime lineup under the bus somewhat doesn't mean they don't want anime.
AS doesnt want anime on there block, hell, I bet AS was mad when they found out the winning schedule had the amount of anime that it had.
There be no merit for that, as it was their anime lineup wasn't always beating out their original programming lineup from what I recall.
-
Well…I guess it's pauseable, seeing as how FMA came back...
you never know...
like toonami, seriously who saw that coming?
:getlost:
-
Considering they had been doing alot of shuffling and dropping of shows from the block it was bound to happen sooner or later.
