_TMNT Sequel Update
Eastman confirms live-action plans.
by Jim VejvodaSeptember 2, 2008 - Sequel talk has been swirling ever since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returned to the silver screen last year in the computer-animated feature TNMT. Fans had expected the follow-up to also be CG-animated, but Playmate Toys, the official license holder of the Ninja Turtles, declared in July that a live-action sequel was in the works for a 2010 release.
Playmate later updated their official site and dropped the "live-action" part of the announcement. According to TMNT director Kevin Eastman, however, a live-action sequel is still the plan.
In a posting at the Heavy Metal Forum, Eastman revealed, "Although the CGI film did well enough to warrant a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better 're-invention' (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film – like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc."
Eastman added that "there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original 'first' TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right – but no official word yet."
