Zorro? I think drake is based off of Dread Prate Roberts.

Ok guys,
*X Drake
Well, he seems to be the most important one for me, because of a strange fact concerning his name. People already suggestet the X could be for another clan like the D, but Oda made something very strange. In the raw is a ディエス (Dies/Diez) above the X. These Katakana are for articulation of the word, so the X has to bes spoken Dias. What I found out is, that Diaz is hispanic for ten. The romans used an X as a symbol for a ten. It could mean, that Drake is suppused to be calles Drake, the 10th. This is just a theory from me…^^
Also he was a Navy Officer. It is the same marine rank as Ensign.Diez is the spanish for 10. Diaz is usually a surname and it has latin routes meaning day. In spanish dia is word for day dias are days. But i think you just has a typo, but it makes a difference :)

Someone already mentioned eustace the monk right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eustace_the_Monk
I mentioned that guy but linked it to one of the other rookies.
It may have been said in the thread already, but I'm too lazy to read it all: Drake, at least to me, looks to be based on Zorro. Not only does he have a mask and a similar hat, but could the X in his name maybe refer to how Zorro always marks a Z with his sword? So maybe Drake marks X's?
He wears a mask… And also a helmet... (or are they joint one and the same object, I can't tell..Bad scan I'm looking at). One would presume its a full skull-cap type of helmet shaped like a birds head. Its got an eye painted on it...
Drake, by the way is a male duck, noting it because his helmet looks like a bird.
(Ten little duckies… Swimming in the lake...)

i sure did!i like to draw my fav new chars.

is there a possibility that trafalgar is blind?
I mean, in the first pannel he didn't move his head to talk to drake, and there was this marine on trafalgar's battle that lost his eye and the view…btw, i love the bear guy from his crew (: <3
-
Since Apoo's clothes look like traditional Chinese clothing, he's definitely based off Cui Apu.

…then again 'D' is also a Roman numeral meaning 500 !
Oh, by the way, 'Drake' means dragon in Middle English
hmmm… two different characters named 'Dragon' in two different languages ...coincidence? -

hmmm… two different characters named 'Dragon' in two different languages ...coincidence?No, because Sir Francis Drake, the renassiance's most wanted man, was known as El Dragon in Spain.
It could just be a naming thing that Oda did, but it is entirely possible Drake is Luffy's Uncle. It would make sense, being that Garp is a Vice-Admiral (And possibly the former Akainu).

holy wow you really love relationship theories… i wonder whether there's even going to be a real fight or if this'll be like the vice admirals at enies lobby

Some interesting things about Trafalgar (he is British, no?)
Cape Trafalgar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Trafalgar
Battle of Trafalgar http://www.voodoo.cz/victory/trafalgar.html
- A naval battle in 1805 of Britain vs. Napolean's forces that changed naval warfare.

British?! By God, NO!! He's a proper North Bluesman, or I'll rot in Hell, sir!!

@_Meh_:

Britain doesn't exist in OP.
Nor does Italy or any other country in the RW.
And whats so bad about being british.? :wassat:

Hehe, I know England doesn't exist in the One Piece world. I did read somewhere here that he has a British inspired design.
-
Sry if this is mentioned (probably is but hey) couldnt Bonney from "Bonney and Clyde" and maybe Zoro will be some kinda of clyde (sounds lame but it might work out, or something, soz im tired)

Hehee… I was making a fuss for nothing!
The name is from a battle, but his design isn't. He reminds me of gangsters. I wouldn't expect with with a katana sword, but a nice gun and his "homies".
-
You think Kid was inspired by Sandland Beelzebub?
-
Someone said that for Franky didn't they? :/
-
Neeeh, it's anne bonne.
That's the main reason i think that she's based on billy but if i'm correct, billy died in his 19's/20's :(
I've always heard her as Anne Bonny
-
I wonder if anybody has ever noted this but the person, Jewelry Bonney is most modeled after, is in fact Japanese eating champion (or "Glutton" if you will) Gal Sone. I guess it's quite unusual for a girl (!) of her physique (!!) to be able to eat a mountain of hamburgers and make a living out of it, which is probably why she's all over the place advertising for restaurants or appearing on shows. Any allusion to historical pirate Anne Bonny is merely nominal.
Proof:

Sorry if I sounded hostile; my intent was to imitate the stereotypical indignant English Gentleman, as a form of sarcasm, and also to head off any discussion of "what nationality is ______?" that comes up far too often.
-
Chui Apoo was a 19th-Century Chinese pirate.
Captain Kidd was a notorious Scottish privateer who may or may not have been an actual pirate, but who was executed for piracy nonetheless.
Urouge could easily be a reference to the Joli Rouge.
Sir Francis Drake was a Spaniard-hating "gentlemanly pirate" in the late 16th Century; he sailed with his cousin John Hawkins.
Anne Bonny was a bloodthirsty female pirate from Ireland and Calico Jack Rackham's lover.
Al Capone was not a pirate, but an infamous 1920s and '30s gangster.
The Battle of Trafalgar was a decisive naval battle during the Napoleonic Wars.Unaware of any historical pirates named Killer. ;)
-
Look up Battle of Trafalgar.
-
Okay, I added it. I knew of the battle beforehand but I was still researching it.

I think his nick name might be a clue… But where you'd start for that I don't know. :-/

hahaha awesome-O .(but damn gal sone looks on that pic god damn hot…like bonney....so this is the girl Oda had some ideas about how he draws his lady gluttor)
-
Not sure if this is brought up, but Hawkins look eerily similar to Joey Jordison the drummer…

Urouge with his bounty and his looks makes me think of Lu Zhishen from the novel Water Margin… That chara is part of a gang of 108 outlaws, and is dressed as a monk, even though he's not one really...
More here :

I searched alittle and not sure if anyone posted about Law's pirate symbol but the break off points on his smiley relate to the symbol of Chaos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbol_of_Chaos (guess having death writen across his knuckles was a give away :P)

Someone mentioned it before I think but he also noted that the chaos symbol has eight arms while Laws only has six.
-
its pretty obivous Kid's reign of being no.1 rookie is going to end
Unless Oda's intentions are for Kidd to be one of Luffy's main rivals. And what better way than to have someone come into the New World the same time you do, but have a slightly higher bounty.
-
Urouge is from Skypeia but what's that matter?
I thought his home island wasn't mentioned. Stephen translates as Sky Island and Carlos Net as "the Sky Islands". So that's Skypia?
-
Urouge. The katakana used to spell his name appear in this article as the name of the 15th century turkish corsair Aruj, better known as Barbarossa I aka Redbeard. In going from Turkish to Japanese to English we've ended up with the strange spelling he has.
-
There are plenty of other pirates on the island to show these various things. There's 11 guys with bounties over 100,000,000 think about how many pirates there are going to be with bounties under that.
The bad coat job.
The specialized marine troops.
Kizaru. -

The area in the millennium cumulonimbus is collectively referred to as sorajima, the sky islands. Skypiea was just one area of the sky islands, encompassing Upper Yard and Angel Island.
"Blica", which was Ener's sky island homeland, could refer to an area like Skypiea or a single isle. Personally I think it was another area, since "island' would have been in the name for one made out of clouds, and it was probably bigger than Skypiea because Blica was the name of the civilization on Fairy Vearth.

That's Ann Bonny…Jewelry Bonny looks a tad weirder with her huge grumpy mouth and cowboy getup.
-
Oh I know, but most of us think that Jewelery is mostly derived from Ann. But with Oda's unique spin of course.

As seen in the latest chapter Law says to Kuma "So well taking our leave, Bartholomew Kuma" and does a swirvly motion with hes hand, so i was thinking that with hes DF ability, ha can move hes and hes crews bodyparts and reassemble them on the other side of the room, like some kind of teleport.
-
Being able to go around Kuma with his DF would be incredibly anti-climatic and yet incredibly Oda-ish! I think the main reason that me and so many others want to see a shichibuiki fall at the hands of Supernova other than the Mugiwara is because it seems incredibly cliche that only the main characters boast that accolade.
-
why move his crew's body parts when he can take Kuma apart??
-
Kuma deflects Law's attempts to use his on the warlord.
=P

Some else really does need to take down a shichibuiki. Two SN on one shichi seems like a good a time as any for this to happen. Kuma seems like he is still a little to useful for the story to go down right now, but I still want to see Kidd and Law go all out on him.
Though Law ditching Kidd by just going around Kuma would be awesome too.
