Yes ! Now please Viz actually make a faithful translation !! . This makes me wonder if they are ever going to release the guide book to Bleach. I can't even dream of them going to release the the Red Book especially considering they have just started the Arabasta arc.

Both the first guidebook and "All Colors But the Black" have been confirmed for release. Personally I rather Viz brought out "Baller's High" and/or "Field of Color" for ES21 but its just not as big.

As for their "anniversary issue"…they just had to sneak in Naruto, did they? But hey, a collection with the first OP, YYH, SK and even YGO (and probably the beginning of the Cell arc in DB) isn't too bad for that sort of book. (at least they didn't also sneak in the first chapter of Bleach or Death Note just for the hype...)

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would just ask this here. Does anyone remeber a one piece short that was only like 4 pages or something about them on an island with horses who can talk or something? I know I read it but I cant remeber what i was or what it came from. Any help?

I have a first issue of ASJ, I bought it mainly cause Goku was on the cover and I saw it in stores back during my DBZ craze (most likely when I was picking up that months DBZ Beckett). As such, I see no point in owning the fifth anniversary issue then. That is, unless they are actually having the color pages in color, unlike the beginning of the first chapter of One Piece which was in color but they printed it in black and white like in the volumes.

I think that's a doujin (fan made) so it will probably not be released anywhere.

There is a doujin thread. try looking through that and see if you can find it.

The Tongren? It looked like Oda's artwork at that time, and Null DID scanlate it, so I think it was real. Whether it was or wasn't, it was amusing. Here you go.

They um… Always grayscale their graphic novel releases. It's not at all exclusive to One Piece.

As for me, what concerns me about this magazine is the the censorship. It'll be censored, so this special edition version of it really won't be what the first magazine stands for. Though the hardcoverness of it is interesting, and I think it'll come with the promo Blue Eyes White Dragon card with the Earth picture behind it insteand of the stone tablet.

Yes, but I believe his point was that the first chapter was in grayscale in the american SJ as well, even though several pages were colored in the original release in Weekly Shonen Jump. Getting the chapters earlier and the occasional color-pages are really the only advantages to getting the magazine, so it's a bit stupid when the color-pages aren't there when they're supposed to.

I got my volume yesterday. I found it interesting that one of the pieces of fanart was a reproduction of Zoro when he was unsheathing his sword after being freed from the cuffs during his fight with Kaku.

I also found it funny how there was a question mark from Chopper when Bon Clay 'flashed' everyone.

So, I just got volume 18. I noticed that Ace's "Pirate Summit"-line was changed to "The next time we meet, it will be on the high seas". I'm not sure what I think about that, on one hand, you can't misinterpret that, but on the other hand, that's not what he's supposed to say, and it doesn't quite carry the same meaning…

Well, the Pirate's Summit, when interpreted properly, says that they will meet when they have gotten as powerful as a pirate can become. The high seas just seems to say that they will meet at sea. Also, the Pirate's Summit can be read as an extremely veiled reference to the New World, whereas the high seas seems to refer to any sea. However, it does keep MOST of the original meaning intact, without being open to horrific misinterpretation. And I think Viz may have called it the HIGH seas (get it, Summit? High?) on purpose, an attempt to preserve the original line for those who are "in the know". Much like their calling the Okama way the "Oh Come My Way Lifestyle", although that was much closer to original then this anyway.

To be honest I like what Viz did with Ace's comment. It makes it easier to understand what he means than "Pirate Summit". Like others I thought it was going to be some big party/arena/get together and it was only fans here who made me understand what he actually meant.

Yes, but as it is, they pretty much changed the meaning from "Let's meet again when we've gotten as strong as we can possibly become" to just "Let's meet again somewhere on the sea". It just doesn't hold the same kind of meaning to it. Ah well, it's just one line, no big deal.

No, "Pirate's Summit" is a creation of stephen, whose work is often considered the gold standard when there's debate about OP translation.

FWIW, the FUNimation dub gives "We'll be distinguished pirates" for the line in question. I really oughtta pick up a copy of that volume at Book Off or something just so I know what the line originally says, but I keep forgetting.

ok heres my point they sold out because its not true to what is says. The thing should have dbz cover on it and thats why they sold out. They couldn't not put naruto on the cover of one thing. Proved wrong shut up jedi don't give me crap for my opinion

Unfortunately that's five years for you regarding that cover. Five years ago, DB/Z was still riding the heights in the magazine and was one of the main factors of its popularity and importance. Now…its Naruto. (which started the next issue but Viz doesn't care since that's their bread and butter...sort of makes me happy they didn't just sneak in Bleach too just to be cool while keeping Sandland) Regardless, considering how many strong chp. 1s are in that hardcover, I may be interested enough to pick it up.

It's 400 pages and they're holding a contest to visit Japan for Jump's 40th Anniversary. There's also some coverage of the Dragon Ball movie.

We're talking about the new hardcover edition of the first SJ. It's just the debut issue with added pages from other SJs with interviews, etc. The amount of chapters for each series will be the same as it was in the debut issue. Either way, they're all just the first chapters of the series. So it doesn't really matter how many chapters One Piece gets. >.> So long as it is the correct amount of chapters that should be in it.

Anyway, is this magazine already being sold?

It's partially because I've already read the scanslations, but I haven't read a single chapter of Naruto in USA Jump since sometime last year. I skip right to Bo-Bobo or One Piece, whichever they've got first that month.

I am kinda disgusted at the Naruto-whoring with the anniversary issue reprint, though. But I may still grab it if there's color chapters, or bonus interviews or junk like that.

I wish Naruto never came to the states.The series is boring in shippindun and in america it is just the next DBZ.Which is sic because Naruto isn't anywhere near as good as Dragon ball Z.

Actually, I felt Naruto did handle development of characters better than DBZ, but still this is wrong for Viz to do this and also Naruto is merely a Clich'e with elements ripped out other Shounen manga(specifically Dragon ball).

Something funny I read in a free Animerica pamphlet I got from Borders today: In the pamphlet there was an article about the clothing design in various manga, and One Piece was among them. Basically, they just talk about how the Strawhats always dress for tropical weather and wear shorts, tank tops, and open aloha shirts.

But the most interesting part is that they actually mentioned Franky, and I quote:

"In general, they're a pretty good-looking bunch, weather permitting of course. Admittedly it might not be such a good idea to use Franky as your specific model (given his occasional tendency to trot around in little more than a Speedo and a smile), but your common sense probably had that one covered anyway. We hope."

Thus far I think America has only seen Franky in one of the video games. But still, I thought it interesting that Viz would mention him when we're not even close to Water 7. Ah well, I guess nobody reads these things anyway.

Yeah, it's like a tiny little 15-20 page magazine, more a pamplet than anything else. They hand them out all the time at Borders.
