Here, check this out, and nothing personal…
@Sandai:
Except DragonBall worked whereas this live action movie based off of Dragonball doesn't.
Says you.
Really, with something as wonky and weird as DragonBall was (later on in the DBZ portions, it pretty much just became kung-fu superhero action), this is in many people's eyes an acceptable level of faithfulness.
The characters may not look exactly the same, and the world it's set in may not be as fantastic and mystical, but at the core of the characters and story, it's very much DragonBall. They're condensing a fair amount of things, but we've still got the same overall characters, objectives, and plot elements.
The way it's shaping up, it's going to be a good adaptation of Dragon Ball into live action, and retain the same spirit, exciting action, and likely breathtaking visuals and fantastic story. If people expect what we got with Speed Racer, that is, the exact look and feel of the characters and elements being directly translated into live-action in great detail… then of course they're going to be disappointed, especially if they stubbornly refuse to accept anything else.
Bottom line: This movie is a "live-action adaptation of DragonBall," not "DragonBall in live-action." There's a difference, and only when people realize as such will they be able to allow themselves to enjoy it for what it is, rather than what they think it should be.
