For example, 'kusottare' is commonly translated as 'asshole', well it actually means, 'you're a piece of shit dangling from an ass'. It's just as nasty and children are not supposed to use it…..but they do.

I'm sorry, but the dub was bad from the beginning. Sure the basicness was there, but it was horrible. Zoro's line "has your mind been turned to jello" sticks out to me.

Greg's right, that's how I was led to understand it too (however, While I knew they existed, my Teacher never taught me them XP)
Although, Certain words (which she didn't teach me either) were also said to not be Swears, but properly translated as such.
IE, Kuso is a vulgar word for Excretement, Poo, so Crap or Shit is, in context, proper for it.
Kisama is a Vulgar way to say "You", most people translate it as Bastard or Bitch, Along Wtih teme.
Yarou is one I've heard and seen translated as "Asshole", not too sure on that one, but I see almost everyone translate it that way, including actual Anime And Manga Companies, so I want to believe that's an accurate translation.
Unfortunately, I've not got a wide knowledge of these terms, because my Teacher purposefully never taught me the curses, so I had to "Learn" them from Anime, but she considered Those Curses (I asked her one day, and Cited these ones I'd seen in anime As Examples) and she's a born-and-raised Japanese woman.
There's also Context, I mean, if you get sliced by a sword and are bleeding profusely (a Situation Zoro finds himself in quite often) would you say "Darn you you meanie" or "Damn you you Bastard"?
I mean, Large ammounts of Blood are already present, and those are considered Very "Adult" so why do people not like Cursing?

Yassop was just saying even if Luffy learned how to swim that doesn't mean he'd automatically become a good pirate, he wasn't implying that Luffy could swim. Least, that's how I read your post. I haven't seen the episode dubbed.
It's still too ambiguous as it can be interpreted both ways.
They could have worded it differently to be more clear, but it's not really an important story element.
They do it again a few seconds later like Yassop line about his "boys". Since most of us are familiar with the Japanese version, we know originally he was referencing his son Ussop. But because he pluralised it, we're thinking he's claiming to have more then 1.
Unless he's talking about a different group of "boys" all together, which if we never saw the original first we may have guessed at initially.
I know, it's just a very minor thing and I doubt that it'll impact the story in anyway later on. I'm just nitpicking, and I think the dub is excellent on the whole.

Actually I remember the Don Kreig stuff was almost word-for-word when I read it side-by-side with the show. The script was almost exactly the same, with plenty of 4Kidsification as per the usual.
Greg's also correct on all of that. The "myth" I guess comes from the whole deal that many fan-translations of "curses" are really just very, very informal, rude ways of saying "you!!" (if I'm wrong on that please feel free to correct me). That, and let's face it, fansubbers like making things have lots and curses in them.

Yeah, I ordered mine copied last Wednesday. My guess is that its my location where I live at. Since Rightstuf HQ is in Iowa, and I also live in Iowa. But who knows. I'm just happy that my set is here now.

As for me, I'm just going to wait for full season sets in the future due to my trust issues with FUNimation in regards to these kinds of series at this time.

Why shouldn't there be? You're talking about a series that is more than 300 episodes long! Getting sets for shows like that is pretty much a requirement in the future.
The only downside to it is that it will most likely be on Blu-Ray.
The only show they've ever really done that for is Dragonball Z, I could imagine they would do it for One Piece if it got popular enough, but not for a few years at least. They never did anything like that for YuYu Hakusho or Dragonball, the other two best-known 100+ episode shonen series they dubbed.
Aren't they just recently doing that for Yu Yu Hakusho now? As for Dragon Ball, I'm guessing that they're not releasing season sets for it because of the whole Lion's Gate rights bullshit still going on.
And I can wait a few years for One Piece season sets. Hell, I've stopped buying anime en masse months ago and it really did wonders for my budget!
There were rumors that they were doing their faux-remastered box set treatment on the Dragonball seasons but I havent really seen any movement that lately. I also havent seen anything at all regarding a rerelease of YYH. The Lion's Gate thing really only prevents Funi from releasing the first 13 episodes of Dragonball so I don't think it would prevent them from doing their hack-job remastering on the other 138 episodes that they do own the distribution rights for.
Somehow, I doubt that FUNimation is going to release all of Dragon Ball in their faux widescreen edition without getting back the rights to the first 13 episodes.
Why exactly, it's never stopped them from releasing Dragonball DVDs before and since there's really no indication of when that sub-license expires I don't see why they wouldnt re-release the series and then go back and do the first 13 episodes whenever they were able to.
While I suppose it's a possibility, I wouldn't bet the farm on Funimation releasing a full Season 1 anytime this decade.
I think the most we can hope for is future seasons being released in full sets.

No. There is all kinds of profit to be made from releasing crappy "remastered" season sets for Dragon Ball. They're doing it for Dragon Ball Z, the Dragon Ball Z TV Specials, the Dragon Ball Z movies, and are going to do it for Dragon Bal GT next. Also, they've only released Dragon Ball uncut once. They're gonna rerelease the entire DB/Z/GT in this fashion. There is really no arguement that they won't.
