I really haven't been keeping up with the whole FUNimaton section on this forum. (You get three guesses as to why)

I'm not sure of how to feel about Gol D. Roger's voice. =/
But other than that…Awesome! ^__^
-
1. Gold Roger sounds lamer then the 4Kids version
2. The Narrator sounds like Santa ClausThere, I went and said what everybody was thinking.
-
Yeah, Roger sounds nearly as bad as he did in the 4Kids We Are, and that was HORRIBLE. They gave him a stereotypical pirate's voice. I still say that the rap (ironically) had the best Roger voice so far. On the plus side, this version's lyrics are MUCH more accurate to the original meaning of the lyrics then either 4Kids' We Are or FUNimation's previous We Are. Sound effects would have been rather nice, and I'm curious as to why they aren't there, but I can easily live without them. This version of We Are is excellent. We do need to get some songs sung by people other then Vic Mignona, though. At this rate, he's gonna end up singing Believe in Wonderland…
-

You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking.
I don't think FUNi's dumb enough to give the singing role of a song that was originally sung by a female artist to a male vocal artist.
-
Can Sabat sing some themes?
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Laura Bailey will be singing Believe, and that Caitlin Glass will sing Glory.
-
Song itself is amazing, intro is terrible. Roger sounds stupid.
That said, lyrics are awesome. It's practically a direct translation and it still sounds good.
-
Well the themes sound great. I've never been a big fan of We Are, but Vic sings it here beautifully. I don't get that same "Reading Rainbow vibe" the 4Kids version gave.
-
@Cain:

What kind of Reading Rainbow Rap did you grow up on? o_o

He means 4Kids' version of We Are. The unaired opening…?
-
ahh yes, that's right
Let's compare
*note the 1st 4 seconds are part of the japanese version, done to keep the length
kl_BNtPldFsEDIT: 4Kids USED THE SOUND EFFX
Sorry, but I honestly enjoy the 4Kids one more because of it.
(Well, in addition to the Narrator and Gold Roger's voice) -
Anyway, yeah, the first time and whenever I hear that 4Kids We Are,
is the first thing that comes to my mind. Crazy I know. -
Lol
But since when is Reading Rainbow a bad thing?
(nostalgia trip)
-
Sorry, you're right, didn't mean to make it sound like a bad thing. It's just such an awkward "mood" for the opening IMO. I mean "Time to set sail for a mystery" sounds like it came straight from a kids education show (that I only have the fondest memories of ^^;;).
-
So then, we need to track down Dan Green and ask him to narrate One Piece.
-
Alright, so I was like.. Quexinos.. this thing is wonderful, but it seriously needs the sound effects..
And she was like.. But no sound effects = better MP3s
And then blah bla
Then she was like, well why don't you add them in?
And I was like humm..So here we go
One Piece We Are Funimation style WITH SOUND EFFECTS
pH-prrel2aU
whoo xD
I wouldn't call it perfect by any means
But I matched it up frame by frame, so that was the best I could do. -
That's not… quite how the conversation want but okay XD
It's the best you're gonna get really. I do wonder why they removed them... but Im fine with it.
-
It probably wasn't so much "why they removed them" as much as "why they forgot to put them back in".
Not like they're necessary anyway, most other openings are sound effect free. We shall survive.
-
It does lose a bit of its epicness without the sounds.
-
Why would anyone want those incredibly out of place sound effects in the opening?
-
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but is the opening on the Japanese track unaltered (title and SFX)?
-
Why would anyone want those incredibly out of place sound effects in the opening?
Thank you…that shit sound sooo corny
-
I don't know why people are complaining about the narrator and Roger's voice, I thought they were all right. Besides, it's better than having Eric Stuart. "On the last piece of One piece."
About the sound effects: I thought they were allright, I always like the part where Nami hits the pirate with her staff and it makes that sound.
-
First time seeing this. God…can't Roger sound passionate AT ALL?!
It ruins the feel of the intro.
That being said, the song itself is amazing. Maybe better than the original, defintely on par with it. Vic actually did a good jo with this, but hopefully he won't be singing every single song the way he is so far... -
@Mr.:
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but is the opening on the Japanese track unaltered (title and SFX)?
On the Japanese track the sound effects are still in place, but the title defaults to the Shonen Jump gold One Piece logo. I've seen in multiple interviews that Funi mentioned you could change the angle to see the original logo, but I can't seem to do that on mine (my "angle" button on my remote is mysteriously missing…).
-
If someone could confirm that the original logo can be obtained through the 'Angle' feature, that would be great.
-
The narrorator sounds like Santa and Roger sounds like his slightly eviler twin. It's not like we haven't heard the narrorator before though, and that's Roger's only spoken line to date.
-
…and that's Roger's only spoken line to date.
Actually, we already heard Roger's voice in the third opening.
As for the narrator, he sounds pretty much like the original to me. (Including the jolly-goofiness.)
Am I the only one who thinks Roger sounds like he's being voiced by Frank Welker?
-
-

Well, I checked one of the discs on another DVD player, and even with the angle feature I could not get the original logo. That said, perhaps someone else will have better luck because - believe me - I could be wrong!
-
Still, that isn't a big loss. Even if the logo during the opening is the 'FUNimation era' one, the actual opening isn't modified (Save for it being textless)
-
Blue logo, gold logo, what's the difference? I'll still get to have the subbed Japanese track and hear "Zoro" in the dub, so I'm happy.
-
Thanks for the edit, Lobster.
I was a bit surprised that the sound effects were taken out, but in the rest of the openings you don't get any sound effects (original japanese openings), so to me it doesn't matter.
Just be glad it wasn't "digitally remastered" into high definition looks at DBZ sets
-
Did anyone upload the dubbed songs for download yet?
-

It ruins the feel of the intro.Yeah, I have to agree there. I do like the "Jolly" narrator though. Yeah, it's a different slightly more whimsical tone than the Japanese version, but it works. Plus just imagine the hilarious dialog that'll come from the Oyabun specials and the Mugiwara Theater specials. The narrator gets some funny lines in that.
-
Can't wait for Believe in Wonderland and Run Run.
-
@Ao:
Vic actually did a good jo with this, but hopefully he won't be singing every single song the way he is so far…
Or we could ignore the fact that he's only sung those 2 openings while never even touching the endings, not to mention the fact that Bon Voyage was sung by Brina Palencia, who is in fact a woman.
Honestly, cut Vic some slack. He's sung 2 songs so far. Besides, he's an awesome singer. I wouldn't mind him doing Brand New World.
-

In that case, what was A to Z? A potato? Because I'm pretty damn sure that was Vic Mignona singing that. The fact is, he's dubbed all the songs that were done by male singers in the japanese version so far, and while that works fine for say… Brand New World and Dear Friends, some variety would be nice...

He isn't a fan of Vic.

-
Hey guys
I have a prediction.
Vic Mignon will sing Eternal Pose

Okay, sorry. Jumped the gun. Haven't heard it yet.
Still, I maintain that it seems kind of stupid to complain about steak after years of rotten bologna sandwiches, even if it's steak every night.
