@Lobster:
We Are playing when the went up the Nock Up Stream, but the US version did?
Ok, I could care less about the SFX but you put this twice and I have to point it out. It's Knock up Stream, not Nock Up. =P
@Lobster:
We Are playing when the went up the Nock Up Stream, but the US version did?
Ok, I could care less about the SFX but you put this twice and I have to point it out. It's Knock up Stream, not Nock Up. =P
Lobster, just because YOU care doesn't make it any less trivial. It just makes you more obsessed.
Listen, I respect you pointing it out. I didn't like it either. In fact, I hated it and made it awkward watching the opening the first time (then I watched it again and got used to it so I could start loving it.) It's OK to not like it and point it out. What ISN'T OK is to make a big deal about it and make it seem like it makes the dub total crap and start bastardizing FUNi into a bunch of cheap hacks who are looking for a quick buck when I feel they have proven themselves to be much, much more than that.
It's not a big deal and FUNi forgetting it can hardly make them overall sloppy and unprofessional.
Lobster, just because YOU care doesn't make it any less trivial.
I disagree. (& me caring about something doesn't automatically make it "trivial" either)
In addition to this being an "uncut" version
It's not a big deal and FUNi forgetting it can hardly make them overall sloppy and unprofessional.
Not completely unprofessional. But somewhat? Yes
And of course the dub is great.
But them going out of their way to remove/or forgetting to add something into the DVDs (yet again) Doesn't qualify as professional.
Especially when it's their jobs to screen it and check for errors.
(Am I doin it rite?)
Know what else matters? Bulma's hair color.
Seriously, dude. You're way too detail-oriented. Just enjoy the dub for what it is: A decent and accurate representation of the original.
Even though I blocked LPS, I need to address his wrong ideas.
I have the FUNimation Movie 8 DVD. Yes, it's a pretty good uncut dub with original Japanese audio included…What's this, FUNi forgot to dub Compass? Oh, boo hoo. Gimme a break. Just because they didn't dub Compass doesn't mean that the Movie 8 dub is NOT uncut. It is uncut, dubbed Compass or no.
They left out the sound effects from We Are, the dub is edited... WRONG!! Even though 4Kids got the sound effects in their version of We Are, I assume 4Kids orded the song that way. FUNimation only had the option of the Karaoke version, so they just chose the Karaoke version. Also, just because they translated the text in the closing and changed the logo in the opening does not mean they made it edited. The BLEACH uncut DVD's in the UK have the original audio track and the dub one and the OP and ED has english text, yet it is still uncut.
How do you expect them to notice a bunch of small sounds that no one cares about>.>?
The fact that you care about it, doesn't make it trivial. The fact that it is trivial and you care about it doesn't change it from being trivial.
Lobster, I can't believe this. FUNi has done 120% to give the best dub they can and you're calling them sloppy, lazy and unprofessional for forgetting some sounds.
You can point out the sound edit all you want. But don't call FUNimation worthless hacks for forgetting something as unimportant as that. They are only human.
Like Aceburner said, QUIT NITPICKING!!!
How do you expect them to notice a bunch of small sounds that no one cares about>.>?
Um, they are pretty dang noticeable, as everyone is very well familiar with the sounds we are talking about. And if a company was some how that unobservant.. Well, I don't believe that's even possible.
The fact that you care about it, doesn't make it trivial. The fact that it is trivial and you care about it doesn't change it from being trivial.
The fact that you call it trivial doesn't make it trivial. I could say that complaining about 4Kids puns = trivial, couldn't I? Or even that Zoro getting one letter changed in his name was trivial.
Lobster, I can't believe this. FUNi has done 120% to give the best dub they can
Well obviously not, as they can't work more then 100%. And going out of your way to cut something from an uncut qualifies as about a 95% effort for a "complete original" as they claim.
But don't call FUNimation worthless hacks for forgetting something as unimportant as that. They are only human.
I never called them "worthless hacks" >_> And what does being human have to do with them cutting out the sound effects? So now the excuse for them is that they can do whatever because they are human? Well I'm pretty sure that 4Kids was a human organization too.
FUNi forgot to dub Compass? Oh, boo hoo. Gimme a break. Just because they didn't dub Compass doesn't mean that the Movie 8 dub is NOT uncut. It is uncut,
Funi didn't forget to dub Compass. They dubbed it and forgot to put it on the DVD.
A decent and accurate representation of the original.
Well, almost an accurate representation.
It's like ordering a sandwich.
-4Kids delivered it mutilated
-Funi delivers it perfectly, but wight before it gets to us they unnecessarily throw off the lettuce
Me: WTF? I like lettuce on my sandwich.
Random Person: Who cares?! It's just a minor detail
Random Person #2: Yes, lettuce sucks anyway. It's a freaking vegetable
Me: But they promised us a complete healthy sandwich
Random Person: As long as this thing has the meat I will be happy and you should too
Random Person #2: Yes, it's better then what that other guy gave us, so we haven't the right to complain to the restaurant. Even if they did leave out some of our order
Also, just because they translated the text in the closing and changed the logo in the opening does not mean they made it edited.
Um….. Yes. It does. They erased the original logo and added their own instead, and they added their own credits on top of the textless versions. Just because EVERYONE does this and it's an extremely minor edit, it's still editing.
Vegard Aune….. You are right. But that means LPS can use that quote as back up. You are correct, it is still considered editing, but that would make LPS right.
The problem with that analogy is that what they left out for you is not really lettuce but more a piece of crust that you seem to be unreasonably fixated on.
All right. English texted OP and ED beside, the dub can still be considered uncut, as long as it has uncut on it. There are dubs that use the technique (OP and ED with english text).
Vegard Aune….. You are right. But that means LPS can use that quote as back up. You are correct, it is still considered editing, but that would make LPS right.
Well, if he had been complaining about that, he would actually have a valid point. Besides, the logo and credits are edits to the video, which we basically have no choice but to accept, as the japanese credit-track doesn't exist on the DVD, whereas the sound-effects are still intact on the japanese audio-track, so… NOTE THAT I'M FINE WITH THE TRANSLATED CREDITS. I'D PREFER IT IF THEY WERE IN JAPANESE, BUT I CAN LIVE WITH IT.
Anyway, I'm not gonna argue any more here. It will inevitably end with either someone posting that "Arguing on the internet"-image or everyone just going "screw this, I won't bother with this anymore" anyway. (And by the way, image-responses are just like Aisia from Da Capo S.S. Stupid and hopelessly annoying. Yay for comparing it to a show that most people here have never seen!)
I also live with it. If the edits are just stuck to the opening (WHICH ARE MINOR), I'll just stick with it. As long as the actual episode is good
The problem with that analogy is that what they left out for you is not really lettuce but more a piece of crust
You know, I was about to make some pun about water crust sandwiches
but yea.. whatever
Believe is my favorite opening anyway
I also live with it. If the edits are just stuck to the opening (WHICH ARE MINOR), I'll just stick with it. As long as the actual episode is good
Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it too. Though, I still hope that they'll fix their rather sloppy editing-job in opening 4, so that we'll get the actual background back when the logo comes up. As well as making sure that all the openings after that one have the same effects with the logo that the japanese version had. (The rolling into place in opening 5, the letters spread out on the beach in opening 7 and the 3D-look in opening 8)
EDIT: And I just thought of one good thing that might come out of FUNi's logo-changing. If Toei refuses to give them the widescreen-version of episode 207 and on, they won't have the "logo is too large to fit the 4:3 frame"-problem in opening 7 and 8.
I don't agree with Lobster so much on this, but you guys keep saying, "Stop making a big deal about it!" and you're making a big deal out of it too. You all need to stop. Stop replying to him and he'll stop replying to you. The end.
I am a little disappointed that Funi did change the logo and the new one isn't available, because yes, then it is not unedited as they say but the quality of the episodes more than made up for it. I do wonder if they'll fix it for future sets though.
Toei's not gonna "refuse to give them the widescreen version of 207 and so on". The only version that exist IS the widescreen version. They either get the widescreen version or they don't get the episodes at all. Besides, there really isn't any reason why they wouldn't get the openings. The only case I can think of this happening is with the Dragon Ball Z movies. Every other anime/anime movie that I've heard of that has been licensed recently in 16:9 was brought over with the original aspect ratio intact no problem. That's how those particular episodes were made. Trust me, you're not gonna get them any other way.
TOEI could give FUNimation a zoomed in or cut and pan version of the 207+ episodes.
But there's no reason why they would do something like that, escpecially now in days. Other than the Dragon Ball Z movies(which isn't even that recent), I haven't seen FUNi bring a show over that was originally 16:9 into 4:3. There's no gain for either company to do that. It just won't happen, it's just stupid to speculate that they might get another version of the episodes.
What the hell is this "Compass" that funimation apparently forgot to put in the dvd that people are talking about?
What the hell is this "Compass" that funimation apparently forgot to put in the dvd that people are talking about?
It's the theme song for the 8th OP movie.
Don't you love it when you reply to something with an arrow pointing up to the post above yours and you end up on the next page?
Jesus…Christ!
I just wasted about 10 minutes of my life seeing Lobster accuse me of making excuses for FUNimation and then shitting on everyone over fucking sound effects!
That does it! I demand we boil Lobster and serve him on a plate with a side of calamari rings!
@Kaba:

U Savages have no regard for aquatic life, I tell you..
sigh, I wonder if Funi is watching
?
Well that was a waste of 10 minutes….
So, after seeing Lobster go off his head about FUNimation "editing" the opening / ending sequences by putting in their own logo and English credits, I have to add in my own two yen:
a) This was standard practice in "uncut" home releases (even the subtitled ones), before DVDs made it easier to put in the original graphics by use of alternate angles / translating via soft-subs. At the time, however, few if any fans viewed their VHS tapes or laserdiscs as any less "uncut". Technically it is "editing" in the sense that something's been changed, but then again, so is the dub itself. So your point is?
b) Is there anyone viewing this thread right now who can read Japanese at a level where the original credits would actually be useful to them?
raises own hand
Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?

LOL WUT?
I was talking about the audio removals xD
not that

not that
Oh, that? Now you're just being ridiculously anal-retentive.
Seriously, if something that minor affects your enjoyment of the dub, I think maybe you need to spend some time away from the series for a bit.
From what I've seen/heard of the uncut dub so far, the only thing that really bugs me is Yasopp mentioning his "boys" when it's obvious from series context that he means his "boy", Usopp. Considering how careful the dub's writers have been, someone really should have caught that (after all, someone was well-enough aware of the connection to cast Sonny Strait in the role). "Marines" I'm not especially pleased with either, but it's not a huge deal. Other than that, though…

…....just stop
I only said that an uncut version should have it not cut out. I didn't say it would impair my enjoyment of the dub; and the argument was just with the crazy people who jumped all over me because I said the slightest thing negative about Funimation.
They should have included the sounds. No it's not the end of the world, but it's still a big disappointment.
Toei's not gonna "refuse to give them the widescreen version of 207 and so on". The only version that exist IS the widescreen version.
The german dub is 4:3, even though they reached the widescreen-stuff ages ago. Besides, not even Toei themselves released DVDs in widescreen before episode 229. So actually, them not giving FUNi the widescreen-version is a definite possibility. We are, after all, talking about the same company who…
-Refused to give FUNI/ADV/Geneon the next episode-previews for Dragonball and Sailor Moon
-Refused to give them all the openings. Now, I'm pretty sure Toei don't even have a creditless version of the second Dragonball-opening, but they definitely do have one for the second Sailor Moon R-opening, yet ADV didn't get that, and instead had to add their own credits next to the japanese ones.
-Presumably refused to give FUNi a japanese 5.1-track for movie 8, instead giving them just a stereo-track.

Actually, I was the one talking about translated credits, and I consider it more of a minor inconvienience. I just mentioned that if he has to complain about missing sound-effects, then the credits would actually be a more relevant thing to complain about, since no matter how insignificant it is, it's technically still an edit. True, I can't read kanji, but it's the fact that they replaced the logo which was already written in english that bothers me.
This is stupid. We're still talking about the sounds missing in We Are…?
Good lord...
It is fucking pathetic. The sfx weren't in the opening when the straw-hats sang it during the Enies Lobby arc flashbacks and NOBODY bitched. So shut the fuck up. If you didn't bitch then, that only makes you a hypocrite. It is also stupid to even consider about bitching about it.
This thread should be locked if the retarded groundless argument continues.
The logo is also another stupid thing to complain about, but I don't have the energy to go into the obvious reasons as to why.
@EvilGamerX:

That is a completely different version
So shut the fuck up.
In case you didn't read. The discussion for that ended long ago.
If you didn't bitch then, that only makes you a hypocrite.
No? Because it's not Funi cutting something in an uncut.

Are you sure he meant it as boy's as in my boy is and not boys as in plural. I believe his exact words were my boys your age which could be interpreted as both.
I say we at least stop this argument. It's just something minor that doesn't really effect the actual episode.
If the argument continues….Well.......In before lock
For the mods to lock the thread over Lobster's doing would make this thread a sad excuse. Can it be HOSed?
Are you sure he meant it as boy's as in my boy is and not boys as in plural. I believe his exact words were my boys your age which could be interpreted as both.
I heard it as "I got boys older then you". And there was also the line implying Luffy was a good swimmer, which I thought was a 4Kids dub mistake. Could someone with DVD's tell what the subtitle track said for that exchange between Luffy and the Red Hair pirates?

speaking of 4kids, i'm not sure if everyone knows this but Funi took a shot at 4kids when shanks said: "I don't know one pirate who drinks jiuce!".
that was a very good joke against the 4kids dubs because every pirate in that dub drank juice. and in the words of young luffy: "That was a cheap shot!!!"
Al Khan must be falling on his back if he found out about that joke.
@Lobster:

Sandwhich wise, this is more of how it is;
Missing sound effects to an intro that if you use the Marathon Feature alot you'll hear once every time you watch a disc, and two or three minor lines that won't change the story at all is not like a lettic on a sandwhich. That kind'of thing would be more of one pickle missing there still being 5 or 6 there. 4kids on the other hand would be like bringing you the ingrediants on a plat and be like here's a sandwhich! I think your over exageratting alot.
I don't think the Juice line was taking a shot at 4kids at all.
Obviously in the Anime version it's not milk being juice color and all, but I'm assuming the translation is just that, a translation.
Ew .
The second one's got wilted lettuce
EDIT: o_o You actually made 4Kids' appear more bountiful.
In fact, one could probably make an entire sandwich with those ingredients; with half a turkey ham left over.
speaking of 4kids, i'm not sure if everyone knows this but Funi took a shot at 4kids when shanks said: "I don't know one pirate who drinks jiuce!".

Al Khan must be falling on his back if he found out about that joke.
I wouldn't really call it that… I mean... The 4Kids dub of this episode pretty much had the same line...
Shanks: See? That proves me point, Luffy. A pirate will never drink juice!
Luffy: Dirty trick!!
Also, for some reason, that was the only 4Kids episode where they actually called the rum "strong stuff"... Instead of opting for Power Juice or whatever like they did later on.
The 'Juice' line is present in all versions of One Piece (sans the manga since Luffy drank milk)
It's present in the original manga as well. I believe Viz changed it to milk.
On topic: I enjoy FUNi's version of We Are; mostly, I'm just glad that they even bother to make dub versions of the openings and endings. Personally, I really don't care that the sound effects were left out, though it would be interesting to know the reason why. Oh, and I didn't like the narrator's voice immediately upon hearing it, but now it's not so bad. Gold Roger's voice could be better, though…maybe it was just the way he delivered his lines?
Off topic: The "sandwich" conversation and diagram made me LOL.
Sandwhich wise, this is more of how it is;
