10,000 meters below sea level. That's almost as deep as the Mariana Trench!
Well I only said that because of that time when Robin clutch Franky private parts.
Something on a prior post, along with events this chapter had me thinking of something. Someone (I think in the spoiler thread, not 100% sure) asked how the government's reputation doesn't suffer with slave trading going on right next to it. That, along with events involving the ferris wheel got me wondering: Just what are the status of fishmen in the One Piece world?
We've spent all this time, many expecting Fishman Island folk to be similar to Arlong and his crew. But what if they're the exact opposite, with Arlong being nothing less than a pure and total exception to the rule?
What if Fishmen and Merfolk are, in fact, an oppressed people (thanks apathetic for reminding me of the word)? They are dominated and disregarded by most people. They're prime targets for slave traders, despite living directly below a Holy Land of the world government, they appear to be disallowed from simple amusement park attractions in a place where the government's nobility presumably rules supreme. Didn't Water Seven's folk mostly regard Tom as some kind of savage/freak?* If that's the case, then Arlong and his crew (Jimbei?) were rebels. To be best of my memory, this theory does fits facts:
If people in general regarded fish- and mer-men as lower-creatures, Arlong took the opposite extreme viewing humans with disdain. Arlong's hatred was probably only fueled by the idea that humans regarded themselves the superior race against all evidence.
Arlong was part of Jimbei's crew, but they split up for unknown reasons. However, the two are theorized to have parted ways when Jimbei became a Warlord of the Sea. This could well have been due to conflicting views on helping Fishmen. Jimbei and his side preferred compromise for the sake of improving Fishman welfare. Arlong felt they were the superior race and deserved to conquer all and be on top.
This is just a theory that came to me the past couple days, inspired by this chapter and earlier comments. Take it for what it's worth.
*I can't remember if they regarded Tom as a monster/freak prior to his attack on Spandam during Franky's flashback or not. Regardless, whatever he may have really been, people had no problem believing Tom was little more than a beast.
I feel that your theory is very possible in being the case here.
It's a very viable theory sgamer. I think our next arc is here in the Yarukiman Mangrove. Maybe our next crewmember will be found here.
@AWB:
What do the Straw Hats need an archeologist for?
the phoneglyphs.

I doubt we'll see Wapol, remember he's the CEO of a toy company… somewhere...
Right, and we know jetsetting and traveling around the world for business as well as vacation purposes is something that CEO´s of multi-million dollar (in that case Belly) companies never do. :getlost:
Fishman island is a famous vacation/tourist spot isn't it?
Not sure. Kokoro just said it was an underwater paradise. Can´t seem to remember that tourist spot part.
If someone wants the raw, it is here:
Thanks to Kylara from Mangahelpers!
thanks, I appreciate it.
So how did the log pose point at the red line hole?
Hachi said that it was just a small hole in under the red line.
I´m not sure I understand your question. What do you mean about the "how" part? And as far as the function of the Log Pose is concerned, it points at islands with strong magnetic fields, which currently is Fishman Island which lies inside the Red Line hole.
I wonder how Lola and her crew passed through Red Line from the New World? Does it mean there's another group of yarukiman mangrove there to get the special coating from? Just thinking aloud…XD
Anyway, thanks to everyone who brought us this awesome chapter...
Going back to the oppressed fishman theory, something that's bothered me for quite some time is that we've never seen a mermaid or fishman marine. Even giants are extremely rare even though Saul mentioned to Robin not all the giants are bloodthirsty like the ones from Elbaf. It reminds me of Star Wars, the empire is almost completely human except for a few aliens hired to preform services for them. You'd think the WG would want to have soldiers ten times as strong as normal human marines.

Nevermind that. I thought Hachi said that the hole under the red line is actually the fishman island.
its IN that hole .

that´s exactly what i ask myself…

Maybe they ship the resin to the other side of the redline
Or maybe they have a coat artist on their ship.
Coat Artist for next nakama!

The thing is, it would be less complicated to control those minorities than allying them. I bet the incident with Saul could have affected their decision towards hiring more non-humans. Anyway, it seems Jimbei wasn't a Schichibukai around the time Saul was a VA, so maybe they fired all the non-humans and decided to control them through the sheer power of Non-Human Schichibukais. For all that we know the Last Schichibukai could be an actual giant ruling Elbaf.
It was nice seeing Sanji enjoying somebody else's food. I don't remember the last time I saw him eating…well, I always suspected ha had anorexia.
I laughed when Pappag suggested to Franky that they change ship.
XD i like Duval's new look
Very cool. Something tells me fishman island is going to be more of a reef. The ceiling and walls of the hole could house the inhabitants. Either way very cool stuff awaits.
This is the funniest arc in a long long time.
I agree that it a very funny arc and I wonder if Camie has any another goals other than going on the Ferris Wheel and becoming a Designer?
Considering the points sgamer brought up, if anyone on the crew beats down a World Noble, I'd prefer it to be Nami. It would allow for something for her character other than "fight the femme fatales" and "be a damsel in distress". Besides, with her initial reaction to Fishman Island back in Water 7, it's almost screaming to happen.
What are the chances that Vengapunk is a world noble? he lives most likely either in marine HQ or in Marojea, if not now he will aparear when we less spect it in some island of the new world where weird shit happens that allows some research.

I am aching to learn more about vegapunk. You're right, it is very likely that he lives in Mariojea. I wonder if he'll be a good guy or bad guy?
He has to be a bad guy right?
Not necessarily. Though it is the most likely option. He could be working for the "greater good" genuinely. After all, the navy/world government are, far as the general populace are concerned, the good guys. Also consider that his strongest shown device (Kuma) is called a Pacifista, as in pacifist. So he may not necessarily be for violence. It could all go any direction.
Your right since it is hard to tell if he good, bad or neutral?
Consider also that the Pacifista he crafted seems to know and respect Dragon. While this fact may have no bearing on Vegapunk's politics, the origin of this Pacifista speaks volumes. The very fact that he was willing to make a notoriously brutal pirate like Kuma into a somewhat subdued- though still incredibly dangerous- cyborg says something about his personality. It hints that he believes in maintaining peace through the proper application of force. Whether this makes him a villain or not depends on how he defines peace: the freedom of people to choose to live in harmony, guaranteed by the protection Pacifistas can offer or rigidly imposed order enforced by an army of super cyborgs.
EDIT: For some reason, I can't imagine Dr. V at either Marine HQ or Marejoie- Mecha Island seems like the sort of place he'd hang out. Although, he could be doing some research at the Shabondy Archpelago. Who knows?
random note: I just noticed on page 16, Luffy's still wearing that armband from Thriller Bark.
Or maybe they have a coat artist on their ship.
Coat Artist for next nakama!
Why couldn't Usopp fill that positon?
@maxterdexter:
What are the chances that Vengapunk is a world noble?
what are the chances that Vegapunk is the mechanic Hatchi mentioned?
Crazy thought.
AWB has a point, but what Im wondering, is if we'll meet anyone important at SA?
I'm hoping we'll get to see someone that we have heard of, but know nothing about.
Also, call me crazy, but I get this feeling that we're going to run into Smoker again really soon, like within the next 2-4 weeks. Just call it a hunch…
… But details I really liked included Duvals wink with a damaged star, Luffy burning his hands on the Takoyaki grill, and Papagg trying to get everyone's attention after Camie took over his explanation.
Yep – those are great! -- This chapter is full of great details -- every time I reread it I find a few more. Here are my favorites:
-- The "arms" holding up the sail and deck of Hachi's ship. There are 8 of them (4 per side) and they have holes that make them seem like stylized tentacles. Also, the "8" on his sail, which is a clever way of saying: "Hachi".
-- The unique way that each crew-mate eats and drinks: Robin eating properly and slowly. Zoro washing a mouthful of food down with booze; Franky washing it down with cola; Nami sitting in a defensive pose and taking a tentative bite; Sanji concentrating intently as he eats, etc ...
-- Duval's (presumably) Ethanol-powered hot-rod-modded "ride", as well as his swell hand gestures (especially the one he gives to Nami)
-- Brook's skull-design tea-cup and skull-design thermos for his tea.
-- the way that Pappag's body mimics the Criminal scar-star design on Hachi's apron as he rests against Hachi after the feast.
-- Choppy listening to Luffy's indigestion with a stethoscope.
-- the "Z Z Z Z"s above Zoro's head as he falls asleep during Pappag's speech. They echo the smoke hearts above Sanji's head as he intently studies Camie's boobs. Their poses are similar too -- except Zoro is looking down and Sanji is looking sideways.
-- The way that Nami's shirt and Usopp's pants have an almost identical pattern, though the colors are reversed.
And I especially like Usopp's sig-worthy quote about how a handsome idiot is still an idiot.
Natli -- interesting point about Sanji and anorexia. You're right, we almost never see him eating, and that makes sense, considering his past, and his perpetual worries about wasting food. I think the last time we saw him eating someone else's food was in Alabasta. But I could be wrong.
[Thanks to all who brought us the scans and trans!]

Minor correction, it´s Machine Island. Mecha Island is the dumbfuck turtle from Movie 7. ;)

Isn't that still motobarou? just somehow equipped with boat accessories.
Just noticed Pappags wording.
he said "there are acctually two ways to get through to the new world from here." Which would suggest there are more ways, but they arent accessible from this area. (meaning you probably need another logpose setting or whatever) Definetly think there is a way past in on the white sea at least.
Didnt notice those two last words last time i read through it.

Of course it´s Motobaro. I wonder how somebody could actually see anything else there.

Of course this could also mean that this is the only route that has two options how to get to the New World while the remaining four only leave the one possibility to go over Maryjoa.
Seeing it how the destiny/look component always plays a major role in fictional stories it actually works quite well that way that the Strawhats had look chosing the route that has two options. Just a thought.
@AWB:
Why couldn't Usopp fill that positon?
Mmm, Usopp could be a coat artist but I prefer him staying as the ship's sharpshooter and inventor. In sea battle situations, I can see a coat artist perhaps protecting the Straw Hat devil fruit users with bubble just in case they fall into the ocean, giving Thousand Sunny a choice of going underwater and attack from below or hide/run away. I also think that learning how to coat a ship isn't something that Usopp can learn instantly, it'll probably take years. Well, just a thought. (:

Or maybe, just maybe that route has 2 options because the pirates need an alternative? =)
Edit: nvm read your post wrong. =P
The coat artist is calipha
she has a soap fruit
not so serious
I think that Sanji likes Camie's boobs a little too much.
How can a man like boobs too much?
It's not possible… (unless it's manboobs we are talking about)
Review of the characters:
Robin
*Special trait:(Archaeologist - reading ponoglyphs - void centory stuff…The only one who can (or so is believed)
*POWER the devil fruit which she uses well
*DREAM to decipher all of the ponoglyphs and with it solve the HIMITSU WG is covering so passionately
Chopper
Luffy
Zoro
Sanji
Wont even mentioned those three
This above.Thats how I see it and I am surprised ppl are mixing every dude that comes along with the above.
As far as I am concerned SHs are above above above abiove average Jacks of OP world...not only that every one of them is strong...they have such unique traits which put them at the top of their league or at least with the potential to be the best, that you can already see that if Luffy is to be the PK he ll have the best of the best and very unique ppl around him and that each of them have traits which will benefit SHs alot along their journey...
The weakest by traits in my book is mr. Brook whose dream is imo the weakest and his music is yet to recieve some better use then just batteling and fun...or perhaps some other trait (but his i can run on water and jump high and am fast as hell might just add u to that...)
A starfish will join the crew :getlost:... Hachi will....:getlost:...Duval will...and the list goes on...
Make it a logia fruit dude or smth like that and perhaps that will make sense...
And everyone is entitled to his or her opinion so thats cool just my opinion would be that mentioning at every single stop they make or sec that passes in the OP world who is going to join them...the only logic behind them would be Luffys attitude of: will you be my nakama living tree - thing -

Your right when I think about it.
I'm pretty interested to see how the whole ship going under water thing works out. Is the ship going to just be placed inside of a bubble and brought down? Or are we going to see some strange Oda logic?
