Come October CN will probably be showing Shippuuden, so I guess another network could have the old part 1 series.
Yeah, I saw that on Wikipedia too. Don't you believe it.

@Ao:
Bleach has NOTHING unique about it whatsoever, so that argument is pretty flawed. I actually thought that little tribute WAS meant to be a joke.
Well this was going to happen eventually.
@Ao:
Bleach has NOTHING unique about it whatsoever
Well the Hollow designs look pretty unique.
@Sandai:
One Piece doesn't have
A teenager who can see ghosts unintentionally becoming a god of death
to do battle with deadly & dangerous monsters that only certain people can see.A young boy who had a powerful beast imprisoned within his body when he was a child and now wants to become the leader of his bustling village all the
while winning the affections and the attention of the girl he likes. An intelligent but slightly psychotic high schooler running around writing the names if people into a notebook that has the ability to kill any of the individuals whose names is written into the book.
maybe those are the reasons OP isn't drawing many US fans into it's ranks.
i dont think giving a brief description of what each show is about really qualifies as "reasons" for OP not having US fans…the main reason for me is lack of proper and quality exposure to it at the right time, the market is now flooded with shows that got an early start, such as bleach and naruto, One Piece is being shut out because most Americans have the attention span of a 5 year old and dont want to take on another show and also were exposed to a poorly done dub by 4kids early on.

In the eyes of people who like that stuff that I mentioned maybe their mindset is One Piece doesn't have anything to pull me in like these shows which is why I don't like it, this is taking into account the factor of those persons presumably never having read or watched the story of One Piece.
One Piece is being shut out because most Americans have the attention span of a 5 year old and dont want to take on another show and also were exposed to a poorly done dub by 4kids early on.
Some people actually grew to like the 4Kids dub just like the 4Kids dub of Pokemon.
Well, It's just like how some of you guys hate those other shows.
But instead directed at One Piece. It's no big mystery
@Sandai:
Some people actually grew to like the 4Kids dub just like the 4Kids dub of Pokemon.
Lobotomized monkeys with Down Syndrome don't count.
I shouldn't have to mention this but you know, there are people around here who liked the 4Kids dub of Pokemon & One Piece right?
Now now Gary, he said "liked the 4kids version" not prefer it. There's no harm in someone getting some sort of entertainment from it.
If they liked 4kids, they could end up really enjoying the Funimation version.
Yeah, the 4kids dub is what got me into the original.
Oy Buuhan!
Now you're back, fill us in on this Funimation channel business you mentioned.
If he doesn't care about its popularity over here that's fine.
Hold the fucking phone.
Where in ANY post EVER did I blatantly say I don't care about its popularity abroad?
You guys simply aren't getting my point or I'm not being clear enough.
In one sentence:
You should be grateful that you can enjoy something from around the world that wasn't made for you no matter what form it may take.
Someone hit the nail on the head. I'm not saying your shouldn't be upset or perturbed about OP's status abroad. I think that's natural. But the constant whining, moaning, bitching, flaming and DUMBFUCK threats against a television station for not showing the show you like is absurd.
"But I wanna support the show!"
I've addressed this so many times and it keeps coming back around, it's like a merry-go-round. And for the record, VA's talking about the Japanese animation industry is ALWAYS funny as hell since they're regurgitating what they've been told or read elsewhere.
So one question.
Did anime exist or not before 1996?
Did Dragonball the manga wind up being ended messily because of its financial failure in the US?
How about Sailor Moon?
Ranma 1/2?
Oh! My Goddess?
Kyojin no Hoshi?
Ashita no Joe?
Astro Boy?
Lupin III?
Gundam?
Dr. Slump?
Come on people. Face it. Your money 'supporting' the series does little but put a few extra cents in Oda's pocket while paying for animation that has CONTINUALLY GOTTEN SHODDIER AS TIME GOES BY because it's being made for cheaper.
Honestly. Face it, the fate of OP doesn't rest on your shoulders. You're not that important. You're an added plus to the factor. Me? I have no problem with that reality. I like the show. I watch it. I buy some OP shit made in China every few years. If I stopped doing that and if the 10-20 or so people in this thread stopped doing it, Oda isn't going to throw down his pen, "FUCK THIS SHIT! American kids aren't buying my product!"
If you wanna support the show stop acting so immature. You wonder why anime fans get harassed? Because they act like fucking jackasses when they don't get what they want and start talking about kidnapping cable TV network President's children and shit.
Not saying you can't have an opinion on the issue but you're just making EVERY single detractor of anime and anime fans right by acting like this at these times.
Did you have to write that all in silver?
That guy's font color gives me a headache looking at it.
Hey guys, I might have just stumbled onto something…or I'm just thinking too much. But it could be the fate of Toonami. XD
You know the FUNimation channel, right? Well, turns out come September-October 2008 they're getting new shows...one of them...being Naruto.
Yes, it would seem like it'd just be "so". But FUNi doesn't air any of the shows CN is or was just recently. For example, they don't got DBZ on their channel but they do DB. Why wouldn't FUNi have their most prized show on their own channel? Simple, Cartoon Network was broadcasting it. So this could mean come October CN wont be broadcasting Naruto anymore? I'm thinking "no", but was just a thought.
Wanna know what the other four shows are? Brace yourselves.
InuYasha
Shaman King
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Yu-Gi-Oh! GXSo, the FUNi channel is getting a few Viz and 4kids shows. Wonder what's up with that.
Very interesting info. I wonder why the Funimation channel is getting these shows. Also, as someone else said in this thread it might be because maybe Cartoon Network will be finished with part 1 of Naruto by then, and will start showing Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles. Or Naruto would be on hiatus at that time, because Viz Media needs to dub more episodes. Anyway, hope One Piece will come back to Cartoon Network soon. Also, thanks for the info, Buuhan1!
@Sandai:
Did you have to write that all in silver?
You mean people are still using that blinding hideous Merry BG?
I'm using the CP9 layout.
Looks dandy to me in CP9 & Thriller Bark. And the reason I even touched the color was it changed the entire format after I added yellow and there wasn't a way to return to 'default' color making it readable in all formats. I could have simply deleted the yellow text and then retyped it, then hit the enter key several times to preserve the format but I didn't.
Greg is like a army sergent that will shout at your face.
While I don't understand how the TV industry work however I do want One Piece to became popular, however complaining and bitching about how CN acts up with One Piece won't help, not even Zephos' fake e-mail would.
If CN wants to tear down OP, fine then, it'll come back sooner or later then to bitch around. Meanwhile I support the show but ever since Oda pops up the Red Line at chapter 490, I now just gonna sit back, read drink, write, draw, beat up Noseybonk, pet my rabbit while I put my money in Oda's pocket with a calm but deadly stare by buy his manga and watch the anime if it ever comes out again.
Greg is like a army sergent that will shout at your face.

Nothing and if you excuse me, I'm trying to draw a SogeNosebonk.

I think we're all fully aware that "One Piece" can survive without being a success in America. It's already a multi-billion dollar success in Japan. Even so I honestly don't think Japanese anime can survive solely through Japan alone. Japanese anime has been big around the world for decades now, I think after that much time the international markets would be a pretty important asset to the Japanese animation industry.
But I don't want to get too far into this discussion. I'm tired of long message board debates. I just want to say that for anyone interested I called the Toei Animation L.A. office today to ask about what's going on with "One Piece" on Cartoon Network. Apparently anyone that might know the answer is out of town and will be back on Monday, so I'll check back in around then.
Even so I honestly don't think Japanese anime can survive solely through Japan alone.
Of course it can. Hence the number of series I mentioned that were fantastically popular in Japan that only a handful of dedicated fans around the world appreciated during many of their original runs.
The Grandline skin? I don't think it's that bad.
I love the simplicity of it.
I don't mind the design. Just the color. It's like staring into the sun.

Well, I certainly hope no one think that purchasing foreign distributed One Piece products is keeping the show on the air or keeping Oda off the streets. I'd be surprised if he got a single cent out of any overseas sales.
I do think, however, that there are those that want to support the anime distribution companies (in this case, FUNImation). Since they've sunk in such an investment into their favorite series, fans simply want to "thank" them for releasing it in a respectable manner by purchasing the DVDs.

I totally support purchasing DVDs. I don't think I've ever said any differently. I happen to burn many DVDs myself since I'm not interested in having a complete collection of something like OP (once was enough with my DB videos) but I totally think buying DVDs is awesome.
And should they stop DVD sales someday, well that's that. No need for gnashing of teeth.

Not every Japanese anime can become fantastically popular in Japan. Not every anime that comes out in Japan can break even in Japan. So naturally international markets can help, they are important.
Greg, none of us are condoning threats, flaming, bitching or anything. I thought you were talking to me or Ao Kiji or the seemingly level headed people that've been sharing their opinions here, but instead you're yelling at the hecklers in the background.
I can't tell who you are talking to anymore.
And don't be annoyed with Ao Kiji for getting it wrong. Your stance of "it wont change anything over here" implied that you did think that way. So yes, you aren't being clear enough. And he wasn't even being critical of you for it either, what's all this bold yellow text all about? edit:: Ok, not the yellow. Just the big writing.
I sourced more then just some interviews from VA's. I could spend an additional 5 minutes and find you a few more even. Industry officials have been shouting it from the rooftops the last few months now. They are telling us that there is a problem, companies don't readily do that unless they are in deep trouble. These are people who work in the business telling us this, you're just a fan who lives in Japan. Give us more if you want to prove your point.
I'll now answer your questions then.
Did anime exist or not before 1996?
Of course anime existed before 1996.
Did Dragonball the manga wind up being ended messily because of its financial failure in the US?
Well technically it ended before 1996. Unless you're going waaay back to the late 80's dub. In which I respond by saying that was then, this is now.
Back in the 80's, a studio made Akira and then went bankrupt. It sucked in Japan, but even it's mediocre international sales beat the the hell out of it's domestic one. Anime did "ok" back then. Not great, "ok".
I'm surprised you didn't include Pokemon to that space wasting list of yours. Are you telling me the international success of that franchise had no impact for the Japanese creators? Because that was the start of this whole thing.
Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Dragonball, these titles started bringing crazy amounts of moneys into Japan. Sure they were successful there already, but this pushed it to incredible heights. The anime industry now feeds off this flow of money and uses it to push itself further. How else do you think they justify sinking so much money into these shows now adays. Even mediocre shows are ridiculously good looking.
Then they started licensing out the harder sells, Bebop, EVA, Excel, the Gundams, all those 90's anime we've all grown to love. A few years ago, America's minority fans were buying up anime merchandise at such a rate it was nearing the Japanese's fans' spending. This wasn't adding a cherry to the sundae, it was adding a whole other scoop of icecream.
(Insert points on recent fansubbing/pirating having negative effects on the Japanese side of the industry. Anybody who shifts the focus of this discussion towards this will be tarred and feathered.)
One could argue though that the success of the American Dragonball Z video games caused a sort of minor resurgence in it's popularity from Japanese gamers. (I'm not one to argue that, though I'd direct you to Mike and Julian at daizex.com if you want their take.)
The North America side of the anime industry is more connected with the Japanese industry more than ever before. They've grown so attached to each other now that anything good or bad that happens to one is drastically affecting the other now.
Rabid rantings on why anime fans are hated, Oda up and quits because we didn't watch his show, Chinese OP shit, anime fans cause global warming
I'm still searching between this post and your last for these people who think doing all those stupid things are claiming to be in the right. And I see no one supporting them either. Please, who are you yelling at?!
The original reason why I wanted One Piece to be popular was because of my friend. As silly as it sounds, he does not like DBZ. So when I found One Piece it brights up my mind with it's storytelling style, it actully gives me a reason why I should like it. My friend does not like DBZ because of all the dulliness he finds in it: angrey people, power ups and excessive amount of fighting. Later I had agreed with my friend, DVZ was dull as hell, during that time I wanted a story where there's differant geners, balance, actual storytelling, cultures, un-repetitivness, mixtures of styles and One Piece manage to get all of that. While I'm a writer myself, One Piece have actully inspired me to write, DBZ has none
I have thought "Hey, if One Piece is so great for me, I bet it should be great for everyone" which is why I spent 4 fucking years hoping that the inspiring One Piece get's a high attention here so people won't have to read the dulliness of DBZ and enjoy something that has a story.
Now that Oda pops up the Red Line too soon, I had recently stopped comparing it to Star Wars and decided to cool it, meanwhile CN is acting subtle with OP, there is nothing we can do except we sent a letter or sit back and wait. There are other animes that are great and some sucks and One Piece can be viewed as both so we don't need to hope for an huge cashing success here in America.
After all this time, after all the bitching and moaning, all I have to say is that as long as the DVDs are released, and Funimation continues the dub, I'm satisfied. Some merchandise? Bring over Unlimited Cruise? That would be the dandy, but I'm more concerned about the dub continuing on DVD, rather than on a network that has sucked ass since 2003.

Here, here…............
Buuhan, I'm still interested to hear where'd you hear that info about the FUNi channel airing those non-FUNi shows…
It would actually make a little bit of since if the FUNi channel started airing Yu-Gi-Oh! since they still do distribution 4kids. As for Naruto…well, that kinda throws me for a loop unless they're planning to do some sort of Shonen Jump block or whatever.
You mean people are still using that blinding hideous Merry BG?
I don't mind the design. Just the color. It's like staring into the sun.
You fucking baby. Minus ten points!
I agree with Tarrin4ever, as a matter of fact, I think that might be one of the more intelligent posts made in this thread.
Greg, I think it's wrong to say that we dont make an impact on Japanese market, because we definetly do. Although, I do agree, we dont make near as much of a impact as Japan itself does, but we still matter.
I read somewhere that some characters in manga are created in a likeness so that American readers can enjoy them as much as japanese fans do, it listed Naruto as an example (with the very non-japanese blonde hair, blue eyes design), but Im not sure about that one in particular.
Also, Greg, exactly who were you talking to? The people making threats? Or the people who just want to see their show on Television?
My guess about the Naruto thing is that Funi on their channel is already airing other companies shows already with the shows that Central Park Media, and Rightstuf owns. So it could be possible that Funi did something to get the rights for Inuyasha and Naruto as well the Yugioh series, and Shaman King to aired on their channel.

I feel the same way, but you have to consider that for a show like "One Piece", if it doesn't continue on T.V., it may not be able to continue on DVD. That's just how the world works.
Wanna know what the other four shows are? Brace yourselves.

I had Grandlne but got bored with it. Nice look, but the blue gets boring after a while, IMO.

Didn't the same thing happen to detective Conan and it managed to keep it's DVDs.
Well, I was inferring that with a laptop you can use any number of audio or video cables to plug into your giant widescreen TV and stereo like I do. I'm sorry I was vague about that.
Yeah, you're right, only the quality that way tends to be lackluster with the small file size. But no matter since DVDs are coming out, uncut!
Yu-Gi-Oh and GX are going to the Funi channel? No! Honestly if someone asked me what my favorite anime of all time was I'd answer Yu-Gi-Oh, and GX would be somewhere in the top 10. Really those shows where really great. But they got the 4Kids treatment. They don't deserve to be on the Funi channel, at least not if they continue with the major edits.
I will say that Yu-Gi-Oh had a worse dub than GX, but both sucked ass. neither were as bad as One Piece but Yu-Gi-Oh comes close. Even those "uncut" DVDs sucked a lot.
If FUNi airs those shows then I'm just going to stop calling my TV provider about the FUNi channel, I'm sure they've had enough of me anyways.
I don't mind the design. Just the color. It's like staring into the sun.
Isn't it blue though? Whatever, this is pointless.

I still would like Buuhan to clear this up…
Greg, I agree with the majority of what you aid but I do want to point out one exception, not to argue but because if I didn't, I couldn't call myself any kind of a Sonic fan.
Sonic X
The third season of Sonic X was made and produced in Japan specifically for overseas. It never aired in Japan to this day that I know of, but it did air in France and the US and other places. Without the overseas market, it would not have had a third season at all.

Thats is also true for Ulitmate Muscle, since the anime original got cancel during the middle of the Trojin Cup arc in Japan, while it did well enough that some how got a seconed season in the U.S. that finished the rest of the storyline,
OH, and Hellsing!! Don't Forget Hellsing!
It was a MAJOR Flop in Japan (Major flop, heh, get it? It's a Pun… Hellsing fans will get it...)
Then, it was released stateside, and it was Geneon's Top Selling DVD release that year, and it gained high Ratings on Starz, so then a few years Later, we are now getting the OVA series (which is also showing on Starz)

Didn't the same thing happened to Bobobo?
No. The dub finished as well as it's run in japan. After the final episode, it isn't getting revived since the Japanese PTC says it's too violent. Too violent my butt, there is only comic violence in Bo-bobo
If Sonic X never aired in Japan, how come there are subs ot it online with Japanese voices?
