I still find it amusing how people always bitched about OP movies cause they were "crappy filler" and welcomed arc retelling movies. Now they're ripping that apart.
Well, after movie 8… I'll admit I was wrong.

So when is the movie supposed to air?
It's set to air on March 1st.
i dunno….maybe im in the minority here, but isnt it enough that its just a new one piece movie and looking at a great character's story from a new interesting point of view? the movies never added anything to the plot...they are supposed to be fun, so just relax and enjoy em
After seeing movie 8 for the first time, I'm having the idea that this movie will be a crazy dream of Luffy's or Chopper's like movie 8 was basically Vivi telling the story of the Alabasta arc to the kids at the end. Or at least that's how I viewed it anyway.
I hope we get a review of the movie when it comes out(From Greg maybe?). I wanna know how this movie is gonna turn out and if the huge monster that was in early trailers made it into the movie.
What do you guys think? Is it possible that the movie shows how Blackbeard atacked Drum?
That was my prediction when I heard of the movie, as well.. but who knows.
Probably not :/
What do you guys think? Is it possible that the movie shows how Blackbeard atacked Drum?
Hopefully, I've been wondering that myself ever since we first heard about this movie.
Movie 8 did feature Saul, so there's a possibility.

Yup. Going to catch it this Saturday.
Oh? The new movie is coming out this week? I'm looking forward to another spirited review by Greg.

If it's anything like his movie 8 review, I'll enjoy it.
The best part about Greg's Movie 8 review, was his infamous description of Robin cracking Pell's back~

I didn't view it like that at all, but I suppose it's possible.

I can agree with you there. Should be an enjoyable read.

The way she was talking at the very end just made it seem that way.
Yeah, I kinda got that vibe too.
What is this "Greg" review you guys are talking about? Can anyone link me to it?
^ Greg is an awesome member of this site who will be going to see the movie. Upon doing this he'll be reviewing it. So no review yet, i'm afraid - in fact, i'm pretty sure it hasn't aired yet. XD;;
what are we talking about for theese 36 pages?
Yep yep, lurking newbie here.
I've avoided seeing Movie 8 solely because of Greg's review and comments from others I know who've seen it, but hopefully Chopper's Episode won't compound on the last movie's mistakes too bad. I'll probably wait for Greg's review (or an equally detailed one from somewhere else) before deciding whether or not to go searching for it.
Thank you for providing many people with this kind of stuff, Greg.
I wonder how they will handle the transformations? I hope they look cool. I hope they keep that one scene from the anime where just after Hiruluk dies Chopper does this really strange looking transformation into heavy point. It was actually detailed instead of just showing him go poof different form it showed his body growing and such with veins, and red eyes

What a horrible blindly jumping onto the bandwagon esque reason. Sometimes it's good to make these types of decisions for yourself, after viewing it.
I personally liked movie 8, and so did alot of others.
I thought movie 8 was just "ehh..", but Lobster is absolutely right here.

(Not trying to go offtopic) Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, but if a lot of people I've met/seen with similar tastes in movies/TV to mine have hated it, I'd rather not bother with it. At least not until it drops from $22.99 or somesuch. I just despaired after hearing all of the 'terribly rushed version of something you've already seen' stuff about it. Sure, I might end up liking it, but I'd rather not pay/search online for something that has several warning signs up saying that I'm going to dislike it.
Though for the record I've never liked 're-telling old story' kinds of movies anyway
Movie 9 theme song out
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6WTYJR8R
don't know if its been posted yet so here for anyone
Yeeeaaaaaah….we've gotten that months ago.
Yeah…the single was released today actually, but other than some characters talking, it's the same song from the album version.
By the way, the movie 9 OST is entirely new music (which means new soundtrack for the series too).
Awesome. Finally some new music. Kinda sucks that they just rip all the music for the show from the movies now…
Yeeeaaaaaah….we've gotten that months ago.
My mistake. So the movie comes out tomorrow right? Can't wait for Greg's review.

Should be sometime tomorrow since Greg said he'd be seeing it Saturday and it's already Saturday in Japan. He could be there right now.
Okie dokie, so apparently there's some "One Peace" movie or some shit playing today so I figured I'd kill some time and go see it as well as pick up an '8th Log' whatever that is and I figured you guys might be interested.
So here's the deal.
I've stayed up to 5 the past two nights working on a project related to my proposal and this morning I slept straight the hell through my alarm clock and missed the train to the city for the noon showing. I won't be able to actually see it until like 4 or 5 which means 2 or 3AM Eastern Standard time and won't be able to mail impressions to EGX if he's up until about 2 hours after that.
Then when I get home at an ungodly hour regardless of where you live, I'll post a review.
In short, I'll be fashionably late as usual but I'll give you guys a bitchin' review.

Anyway,I dunno.Musshuru seems like a nice adition, but I cant help to wonder if hell stick around for more then 3 punches.I mean,Zap looked strong as hell and we didnt even get a scene of him being knocked out.
Well apparently Crossbones over at KF just saw it. Here's his review. (Part 1)
@Crossbones:
No Oz. But that thing in the teaser didn't look like Oz to me. I guess some people thought it was. But Wapol gets VERY big in the end, so that could have been what they were implying.
~REVIEW~
Well, it was not bad at all. Much better than the last movie - for two main reasons. They fit everything in nicely and the animation/action was MUCH better.I was surprised how much of the main elements of the story they were able to fit in…and do it well. It is pretty packed though. There's absolutely no breathing room here, but at least it's well organized. Of course Arabasta had a much longer story and had to fit in everyone's fight, but then matbe they shouldn't have made it in the first place. Anyway, it begins with some cool scenes of Blackbeard and his crew tearin' up some town. The intro to the movie, btw really seems aimed at new fans. Each character has their name displayed in their first scene and the narrator from the TV series explains One Piece, The Grand Line...etc.
So Nami's sick and most of the crew go to get her help, leaving Franky and Zoro behind. They make a great pair. Franky spots Wapol's ship, gets real excited and takes Zoro over there in the shark sub. When they reach Wapol's fleet, Wapol, his bro had already left, so Z and F meet the rest of his fleet/crew, kicking their asses big time in an absolutely fantastic action sequence. They just obliterate they ships. Zoro, in particular has some sweet moves. Man I loved this scene. Because they're pretty much copying Movie 6's style, the action is very fluid, dynamic and intense. There's almost too much going on in the fight sequence to even see everything. This goes for the final battle as well. Nice that they gave Franky and Zoro some screen time too, because they're largely absent the rest of the movie.
Much of the rest is pretty faithful to the original story and there's really not much to say about a lot of it except small points here and there, so the rest of my points will be scattershot.
As far as animation is concerned, it looked great. More similar to the TV version style of Movie 6 than Movie 6 itself. It's very expressive and some of the drawings are amazing, especially towards the end. My one complaint would be an aspect of the production style. There were often jagged lines showing from what might be scanning or direct to computer drawing or inking. I don' know, but it's there. Usually it's hardly noticeable. Seeing it in the theaters is probably the most revealing situation to see it in. On DVD it might be fine. There were, however, a couple of scenes where it was blatantly obvious. Looks like they zoomed in on a digitized image. Hopefully, they'll fix it for the DVD release this summer.
During the avalanche scene, I'm not sure but it appeared that they made Luffy and Sanji 3D in a couple of shots involving some camera sweeps. It' very subtle. ...if I'm right.
When Luffy get's Nami to Dr. Kureha, she hears about Chopper, thus begins the long flashback/backstory sequence. This takes up about the middle third of the movie and is pretty much spot on with the original story. Just better animation.
-The rest might contain some big spoilers, so you may or may not want to continue-
Then everyone meets at the top and we finally get to see what Musshuru can do. He and Luffy go at it in an intense fight where Luffy goes Gear 2nd. There's just some freaky animation going on here. Also Kuromarimo vs. Sanji was great. Chess does nothing. Oh well. So here, Wapol, instead absorbs/eats the defeated Musshuru and becomes super big…..thing...guy, combo dealy. I forgot his name...something cannon. He shoots a big bomb loaded with Musshuru's mushroom spore cloud virus thing but Zoro slices the cannon ball open and Franky burns up the spore cloud saving everyone. Luffy had used Jet....ah, I forgot which one to knock the new Wapol monster into the roof and just to show off uses Gear 3rd!!! to blow him away into the sky.
...more later...
I predicted Black beard tearing up the town
But no Oz? Aww x(
I do wanna help deliver Greg's review, but hell if I could stay up that late (or wake up that early) with the amount of sleep I have lost. Though I am interested in reading a review that actually contains interesting points and not mere observations.
AWESOME. early review is AWESOME. i read it, if it's better than movie 8, im STOKED, cuz i fer one dug movie 8.
Everyone is gonna say it is better than 8 cause everyone hated 8.
@EvilGamerX:
Everyone is gonna say it is better than 8 cause everyone hated 8.
Yeah, I've got the same feeling, almost from the very start. I only care to read elaborate reviews and plan to form my true opinion of it after watching. I liked movie 8 though. But I think I might like movie 9 more, just for the sake of the interesting plot twists it has, I love the Drum arc, and will probably be wrapped up nicer. But hey, just think of me as another one of those people you just mentioned. I don't really care, though in all honesty I think I can say otherwise for myself. I'm not even gonna try to compare the two movies. I just want to have an awesome experience watching this movie, can't wait. =p
Glad to hear they didn't reuse that animation of Zoro and Luffy's Jet Gatling from the show.
I'll pass it on from Greg, type the following on the main site and something happens:
ゴムゴムのバズーカ
Luffy appears and you can increase Chopper's bounty …? You can also do it repeatedly.
There is a point to raising the bounty. You get wallpapers and screensavers.
The rest of crossbones review at K-F:
@crossbones:
Ok, rested…can go on now. Final scene - Chopper crying as we hear Kureha firing the cannons. Many surprised faces, pink light and finally a reveal of drum mountain with a giant pink, sakura cloud above....fade to black. Very nice ending. Here's the music for that last scene.
Some other points:
-Robin is the one who slaps Usopp silly after the avalanche making his head swell. To me it worked better seeing as how Robin uses like 8 hands to slap him awake. Nice.
-There are two scenes in the trailer recycled from the TV series: one with Zoro slashing a cannonball(from the episode of them escaping Enies Lobby) and another one of Luffy using Jet Gatling. Neither of these scenes are used.
-The very begining in the intro also shows them leafing though a huge pile of Wanted posters in what looks like almost all of them. I thought I saw some from other movie characters too, but it goes by fast. One easy one to spot though was PANDAMAN. Woohoo!
There are more points but I can't think of them now. Too many. I think K-Fs very own BabyVash is seeing it today too, so hopefully well get another review with more info.
Final thoughts. While they did as decent a job as could be expected of putting a whole arc into a movie, there is a lot of stuff in this. Slowing down a bit in some parts would have been nice. Emotionally, you get just about everything the TV arc had to offer. Hiruluk kicking Chopper out, Chopper coming back all busted up with the 'shroom and the final scene had a lot of people in the theater sniffling and teary eyed. The theme of "nakama" carried over very well too. Again though, with more time for Chopper to contemplate this idea in the TV show, that has the advantage. BUT from Chopper's banishment from the herd to his ostracization from the human community to his freindship with Dr. Hiruluk and tutalige under Kureha, to his final acceptance as a nakama of the Strawhats - it's all there in a well paced arc that delivers the most important messages of not only the Drum Island arc but of One Piece. Well done. I still think the idea of mixing timelines is whack and that'll prevent it from being one of my favorites, BUT it's better than the last two movies(IMO) and definitely DVD worthy. I'll definitely see it again before it leaves the theater.
I'm more exciting than before to watch this movie now.
Ooooh, I see Greg! I'm gonna read his before crossbones.
It's 32 flavors of awesome. You're going to love it.
Give me some time to go over my notes and write the review.
Great to hear! I actually really enjoyed Movie 8, so I guess I'll be in love with this one.
