and what about Mihawk and Shanks as Luffys and Zoros fanboys? doing chores, playing chards and slashing away all unwanted guests…
Oh the beautiful mental images.
Pen will meet paper now.

Haha I know you're just jealous you didn't think of it first.
Umm. Sure.
Back on topic; how about a politician. cough. Orr… a botanist. C'mon now, that has potential.
Any politician would work for the government
I like the botanist idea though.
A Bioengineer who ate the Inu-Inu-No-Mi: Model Beagle.
He could be the excentric old man of the series and have some grudge against Vegapunk and his machines…..
Or the
SNOOP DOGG
of the series

We need someone who ate the Unlucky-Unlucky-Fruit.
Perhaps a girl who's more clumsy than Tashigi…
I still think a Chore Boy would be funny! Really cannot think of many other positions that absolutely need to be filled.
Number of DF Users on the SH Crew is 4 (if Brook joins)
Number of Non-DF Users on the Crew is 5
Maybe we'll get another DF user to finish up the crew as I believe Luffy to be a member of the crew. And here's another thing I noticed people saying that there is more boys than girls well check out my breakdown of the crew.
List of Males On The Crew
-Luffy
-Zoro
-Ussop
-Sanji
List of Females On The Crew
-Nami
-Robin
List of Cool Monsters In Luffy's Mind on the Crew
-Chopper
-Franky
-Brook (if he joins)
Luffy thinking of Franky as a freaky guy made me place him under the Monsters category so I believe we will be seeing the Strawhat's get another female or a female monster. Who knows? I was just giving you all my two berries.
I don't want another female. They are always a pain and so far, have required Luffy to beat TWO bosses to get them to join. Not worth it. Robin and Nami are enough eye candy for the guys.
Maybe a Fishman who ate a devil fruit and thus can't swim will join. I dunno, this is Oda we're talking about. After East Blue, we've yet to get a conventional person to join. Who would've predicted a blue-nosed reigndeer, an ex-villain, a cyborg, or a skeleton musician with a large afro? Let's face it, Oda is unpredictability itself when it comes to his manga.

Haha… Bosses
But didn't the guys have bosses as well?

…Yes, because if another female joins, Oda WILL be contractually obligated to make it happen exactly the same way as the last two.
[edit] Also, an ex-villain joining the good guys isn't EXACTLY an Oda original. :/
Actually, I hate Vivi, but I always liked Carue, and as sort of like a messenger or something for the crew he was pretty fun. It was also sort of nice that he wasn't able to talk. But Vivi is just gonna bring up some more shitty stuff in potentially good arcs, so I guess I don't really want her back.
Former Enemies
Nami
Ussop
Vivi
Carue
Robin
Franky
I was kinda hoping for a fishperson to work the helm, one that can actually take instruction from nami and is able to read currents as well.
I think this would be a useful crew member in the New World.
The Strawhats need a Lawyer.
And after Luffy becomes the pirate king, Lawyers and Pirates will live happily ever after in an utopia where piratecy and the stuff lawyers do is not looked down by society. :)
Well, actually, I bet they will fight Lawyers at Marioeja. Yeah, maybe the Lawyers will be so powerful that even the Yonkou fear them.

No oligated but knowing Oda, he'll keep that pattern.
And again, back in East Blue, we got normal members joining. Humans with very good combat skills but still for the most part, regular people. Nobody with a devil fruit or anything like that. Then BAM! Enter the Grand Line and we get all sorts of weird members. So this 10th member could be virtually anyone. It could be a Fishman or it could be something else entirly.
@Lobster:
Former Enemies
Ussop
WHAT?
The only time that Usopp was an "enemy" was when he fought Luffy
and that really wasn't a "former enemy"
When Ussop first appeared he tried to scare them off and defeat them. He even fired a few rounds at them I believe. (while hiding)
@Kitsune::
Duuuuude…...Smoker
Smoker could kick Luffy's ass any day, if only due to his power and that damn seastone jutte D:
It would still be really freaking awesome if he joined, but seeing as that would definitely clash with his idea of justice, I don't think it would happen.
Okay if there is one thing that really, really annoys me about One Piece, it's that the female characters in general suck at fighting and at times seem to be only useful for fanservice… (this is not counting other non-combat skills, like Nami navigating etc.) There is /never/ a 'boss' who is a woman! ...and Alvida so does not count...
That's why I want a female fishman (fishwoman??) to join; the 10x human strength deal would enable a female character to KICK BUTT for once; to be a good fighter but not because of a DF.
Smoker could kick Luffy's ass any day
Could he now? As I recall Monkey D. Dragon's wind overpowered Smoker so as long as Franky used Coup de Vent, Luffy will be able to escape from him.

I DOUBT that's a problem only in One Piece, let alone the Anime/Manga industry.
Oh come on, at least Robin isn't used for fanservice, and she IS a good fighter. She just hasn't fought much. And she does ALOT outside of fighting. Nami DOES get used for blatant fanservice, but not too often, and she also does fight, and pretty well, if not on the same level as the Monster Trio. And she also does alot outside of battles. At least Oda has his female characters do stuff other then fanservice. They're quite useful, even in battle. Nami took out a Baroque Works agent and a CP9 agent too, you know.

Oh I'm sure he could escape from him, but I don't think Luffy could defeat him in a one-on-one fight facing him head-on. That's totally not the point of this topic, though.
@ Indigo Ink - I agree, there really aren't enough strong female characters in One Piece that aren't used for fanservice. Sure, Nami and Robin are tough, but their fights are usually marginalized and they're usually just brought out for sex appeal. x_x; Most of the female villains (aside from Merrychristmas) were also drawn in very skimpy clothing, used for fanservice, and generally not quite as strong as the males in their group. :/ I mean, who the hell took Nami and Califa's fight seriously? We need some strong female characters who fight on the same level as Sanji and Zoro – and some female villains that are a real threat, too.

That's another good thing about Oda. The females are useful and not typical cliche' characters. Its refreshing to see such a manga artist.
I refuse to count Nami's fights against Calipha and Doublefinger as anything less than a bunch of PIS (Plot Induced Stupidity) crapfests. It's even lamer since both of Nami's fights were treated in a joking manner.
Robin's slightly better since she hasn't been paired against some lady in skimpy clothing who keeps trying to grope her.
Frankly I'd say Oda's main females are only original in the sense they aren't shoehorned into romances that are made into the center of the plot.
That's your opinion. Ms. Doublefinger and Calipha were both very powerful fighters with extremely powerful DF users. Debatelably guys like Zoro and Sanji would lose to Calipha since they are very much power based which Calipha sucks away. Not to mention Calipha also had the number 2 key to free Zoro and Usopp and had not Nami fought Double Finger, she would have double-teamed with Mr. 1 and they'd have crushed Zoro. Nami's fights are always interesting because of the way she can manipulate the weather which is a very versatile power and can be taken into many directions. Just because a fight has a few gags doesn't make it crap. look at the Zoro/Kaku fight. That was full of gags. Or the Franky/Fukorou fight. Or the Sanji/Mr.2 fight. I rest my case.
Nami hasn't had any serious fights at all… Buggy she hardly lifted a finger against, she was too busy trying to sell out Luffy and when the real fighting started, she was too busy stealing treasure. Kuro - treasure again and this time she got wounded in the shoulder. Krieg... She took off. Arlong, Luffy, Sanji, Zoro and Usopp did all the fighting.
No real fighting until Alabasta.

"This is always true, the one time when it wasn't and the woman was a boss and not fanservice doesn't count."

That was because she didn't even want to be a real member of the Straw Hat Pirates until then. Why would she risk her life in a fight (which she sucked at before she had a real weapon) alongside people she (in her head at least, obviously she did become emotionally attached) was only using to make more money?
Really, Nami and Robin are used as fanservice often, but it's nowhere near as bad as some series, or even as bad as the anime (which isn't Oda's fault). And when you put the fanservice aside, they're really great characters.
Nami fought with a normal bo staff back at the Buggy, Kuro, Arlong, and Little Garden Archs.
I actually liked her better this way. Now her fightings just a joke. (literally) It's all jokes.
@Lobster:

I meant before she had a weapon she could do much more than club people with.
I call them "inncidents" not fights.
When you can count the number of hits thrown on one hand you know it says something.
Yeah
Nami's fights reek of Winning because she's on the good team
Everyone else actually wins for a reason
except Luffy vs Croc (that was PURE plot)
What? Round three of Luffy vs. Croc?
@Lobster:
What? Round three of Luffy vs. Croc?
yeppers
I seriously believe Croc should have decimated Luffy
'cause even if Luffy could hit him, he still should have been able to grab he ass and dehydrate him (or hell, kill him with his OHKO poison…)
"This is always true, the one time when it wasn't and the woman was a boss and not fanservice doesn't count."
You are seriously comparing Alvida to the other One Piece bosses such as Arlong, Crocodile, Enel and Lucci, etc? I am aware that there are differences between the anime and the manga, but in the anime she was introduced and defeated in ONE EPISODE. That alone speaks volumes about how much of a milestone she was to the SH pirates.
In addition to this, I never stated that this is what "always" happens. Plus you seem to've missed my point entirely. I'm not particularly attacking the female SH pirates; it's not like I dislike them or anything, and they have other useful skills as I stated before. It's the fact that I would like to see a female fighter who does not rely on a DF (or powerful weapon) to be introduced into the crew. Yes, it is creative how Oda has managed to make the fighting styles all interesting, and everyone useful, etc, etc. But to me it seems gender-biased to send out the message that women have to rely on 'powers' and technologically advanced weapons in order to win fights. Tashigi is a good example of an exception to this pattern. It was very refreshing to see a female in One Piece who is good at fighting because she has spent time training and practising to grow strong.
And did you forget that Alvida comes back later as a super-sexy DF user? Intriguing.

Well, in Oda's defense, there probably weren't too many notable female pirates in real life.

Just as Vivi :o

High 5
TEN POINTS
Well, at least she could still swing her iron mace. Judging by the size of that thing I'd say Alvida was probably the physically strongest woman in the series until Miss Monday came along. But yes, the fighting abilities of women are marginialized in One Piece and pretty much every other Shounen comic ever written.
Moving on from that…
Is there any chance for Luffy to recruit any more crewmembers from North or South Blue? I seem to recall the Yellow Databook listing Franky's birthplace as having been in South Blue and Sanji's was in North Blue, but other than Chopper every other crewmate is either from East Blue or West Blue.
@Lobster:

Actually, just from reading up on a few pirates Oda based his characters on, I believe I've run across four, maybe even five famous female pirates.

How about the Grandline, seeing as how Chopper's the only one.

What about Luffy? We don't know where he was born, only that he was raised in east blue.

I kind of consider her an unofficial member. Until she actually joins the crew on the ship, I won't count her. To me, she's member 5 1/2. Unless Oda says different.
