That's what I say. Although he would be 91, since 3 years had passed. Or 90, because for 1 year his soul didn't get older… Btw, does the soul get older? :wassat:
Chapter 487 "That Song" Discussion
-
-
Didn't he just want to get the flashback out of the way fast so he could continue with the rest of the story? If he had kept it going for longer, wouldn't that just make waiting a week even less worth it??
No, because he could have done it right. Instead we got:
GAAAAH THISISWHATHAPPENEDANDEVENTHOUGHITWASALREADYALLUDED
TOIFELTTHENEEDTOWASTEAWEEKONITANYWAYDOINGNOTHINGUNEXPECTED
EXCPTFORTHEFIRSTPAGEReally, seeing Brook's face was great. Seriously. I expected that to be the last thing we'd see in his story as far as OP goes so that was great. The rest of it was vomit on paper. But whatever. Out of every chapter this is the only one in 10 years thus far that made me do a facepalm. So, not like I'm seriously complaining ;)
-

Okay, I was wrong myself. He'd be 87:
1. He was introduced in West Blue at age 38.
2. They met Crocus when he was still 38, that was 50 years ago.
3. Three years later, when Brooke was 41, Yorki got sick and had to go home. The rest of the crew (Brooke included) was slaughtered.
4. Brooke spent a year looking for this body. He doesn't age during this time.
5. 46 years later is present time. So, he's 87, but in his second life, 46.
-

But those 3 years would be part of the fifty years, meaning he'd still be 88.
-
Okay, I was wrong with his technical (and in my opinion current) age, it's 87-88.
>"Fire Fist" Ace: I still don't get your point… Why would he be only 46? I thought that his second life stars where the first one ended. 'Cause as I said earlier, he wouldn't have been a newborn, even if he had found his body in time... Am I absolutely wrong? -
And Yorki's mannerisms, especially when he laughs at Brooke for being sentimental, they're identical to Shanks'. Plus, the "Calico" and the flag that Shanks uses come from the same pirate (a REALLY BAD pirate, but a famous pirate nonetheless)
Thanks for repeating me.
And I must disagree with Greg. I think that this was great chapter.
-
1. Fairly sure the flashback is over. Where else can it go, at this point in time, without having introduced some effect on present-day Brook(e), by Oda?
2. We're not 100% sure on how the Yomi Yomi no Mi works. Brook(e) didn't even sound too sure about its effects. You can speculate but no one really knows.
-

'Cause as I said earlier, he wouldn't have been a newborn, even if he had found his body in time... Am I absolutely wrong? His physical age is 88, because his body has been around that long. But he died when he was 41, 3 years after they left Crocus and Laboon. Then he spent a year as a spirit looking for his body. So, 50-4 = 46, which puts his second life age at 46.
-
Okay, I guess you're right. Thanks for explaining it to me.
-
I feel pretty confident saying Brook isn't black.
I find it so amusing that Brook actually looks BETTER as a skeleton.
Holy shit, you came around?
Did I die and go to bizarro world or something?
Anyway, I liked this chapter but I'm biased.
-
I'm just saying that Oda's coloring has a special touch that can't be mimicked, so it would be impossible for him to have assistants color pages for him.
No, his coloring looks like the coloring I've seen in just about every other manga.
But you're right, that was dumb of me to say that having assistants color pages for him would be like having them draw the manga for him.
It's fine, if you're not serious about it.
I was just like: UH, COLORING A COLORING BOOK ISN'T THE SAME AS DRAWING THE ART IN IT, SORRY
-
Damn,Will Oda reveal what Brook's eyes look like?He always wear a sunglasses in the past and when he become a skeleton,he has no eyes.
-

They're white circles with black dots.
Except for the Nicos (and Roger, possibly, since we haven't seen his eyes yet), Oda draws all his eyes the same. Just use your imagination. It's like asking to see Mr. 5 without sunglasses.
-
Brooke has an interesting face. We're in the flash back, so I guess we'll see how everyone died pretty soon/who did it. Or that may just be inconsequential. Anyway, it was weird to see Brooke, but I guess it fits him.
-
When the preview came out, it kind of bugged me, but I've grown used to it by now. His look fits him, really. I especially like how Oda included the scar to show that the head wound he had wasn't caused by Ryuuma.

They do have a different form, like Luffy's are almost like large circles while Zoro's are like a thin triangle like oval(or something like that) and so on….

Jango's are heart-shaped.

3. Three years later, when Brooke was 41, Yorki got sick and had to go home. The rest of the crew (Brooke included) was slaughtered.
4. Brooke spent a year looking for this body. He doesn't age during this time.According to the translation, three years after leaving Laboon behind, Brook has already become a skeleton so the captain getting sick and the crew dying all happened within two years after entering the Grand Line.
-
I'll be honest, this chapter was only interesting if someone really cared about what Brook looked like when he was alive, which I didn't really care about. I actually didn't like his design as a living human all that much either.
The whole, "Bink's" song was a little touching, though, I do admit. Oda should give us full lyrics.

i think this was a good chapter. Seeing brooke when he was alive isn't that of a deal but it was a good back story. The captain looked bad ass 2
-
Pgae 13 was so damn sad.
realy a touching chapter-but how did the crew get back on the ship,if they sailed it of with just the captain aboard?

Err, I'm sure it'll be more clear when Stephen gets his translation of it up.
-
I think it says that the captain took another ship.
-
They clearly left the ship with Yorki on ,but they were said to be killed by an enemy (see page 13-the skeleton is PIERCED with swords and the place is thrashed)
-
I think it says that the captain took another ship.
Nah that was a mistranslation. Captain Yorki took their ship and left the Grand Line, the remaining crewmembers got a new ship and continued their journey.
-
I suspected as much-but why does it look ABSOLUTELY the same?
ps:I wonder if Brooke became the captain afterwards.
-
So that was a mistranslation? Hm, I'm a little confused with page 14, chapter 487 now. Brook's flashback in the dining room. But it makes sense, though. The ship Yorki left with had a bull at the front, Brook's ship in the Florian Triangle didn't have anything like that and appeared to be much larger.
-
Hey, Greg, I know the Yellow Book translated Shanks' ship as "The Red Force"… did it translate the Rumba pirates' ship? If not, then it's possible that Yorki's ship could have been "The Red Force" and thus cement the relationship between Yorki and Shanks (if one exists).
-
Yorki's ship is similar to Shanks, but they are not the same. They look different.
-

Well, a ship could always be modified to look differently; a different bowspirit can be added, another cabin, etc.; my question was about the name. If the Rumba's ship wasn't named, it's possible that if Yorki is indeed Shanks' grand/father, he could've passed the ship down to his grand/son.

Yep. A nice, ripped apart, trashed ship to give to my grandson that he won't be using for 2375673 years. :D
(not saying I disagree that Shanks and Yorki might be related, but the passing down of a ship? That is just in ruin, and probably isn't gonna be saved? Eh, not too likely)
-
then again, look at the going merry.
-
then again, look at the going merry.
Can't believe I'm going to say it, but you got me there.
(At least there weren't skeletons and parasites on her, though :getlost:)

Yeah, I mistranslated that part. My original translation was that Yorki left on the original ship, but for the same reason you're confused (because of page 14) I changed it figuring I must have made some kind of mistake.
Also, it wasn't just Yorki that left on the old ship, the other crew members who had caught the same disease as him left with him.
-
then again, look at the going merry.
Doesn't that prove Seal of Legends point? If the Going Merry fell apart after a few months of sailing on the Grand Line it would only be worse for a ship enduring 2 or 3 years.
-
The going Merry was in perfect nick though. Was just used to get supplies wasn't it?
Yorki's ship looks more like the Merry than shanks ship, in the design aspects.

Actually, if you look at page 14, you can tell that it's not the same dining room by comparing the door, windows and chairs/stools.

Ah, makes sense now. Thanks.
-
I think that the captain took a different ship. If you look at the top of page 4, you can see their ship and it has the bull jolly-roger thing on the sail. I assume that's their main ship. Now go to page 12 and it flashes to 3 years later after everyone is dead and Brook is a skeleton. The ship he's on is the same one as in page 4. I assume that must mean the captain found a different ship or the Rumba pirates had a spare ship with the same thing on the sails.
-
boring chapter….
-
-
Don't look at it that way, DBZ. You can't please everyone. ^^
-
Chapter was awesome. Oda-sensei still knows how to tug the heart strings. It's action and pacing he seems to be having a problem with.
-
I thought his pacing had gotten a bit better.
and action has never been a problem
-
And stupid whales.
It would have been far better if instead of Laboon the rumbas would have befriended a baby that would turn into a fire breathing humungous lizard.
-
uhm,No.seriously,No.
-
Well, it's a shame you don't share my feelings.
Seriously, Laboon's a damn whale, he should have stick with more whales instead of acting like a selfish little bitch who wanted to be spoiled by soft pirates.
-

He was separated from his pod, it's not like he just ran away.
He's a wild animal who was afraid and found friends! Where's your HEART?
