Bon Clay totally omits the original pun, as does Portgaz, which Aldrich (?) discovered ages ago was a homage to a pirate whose last name was "Portuguese" (not, the name was portuguese in origin, it actually was "portuguese"). Also, folks, Bon Bon is supposed to be a stereotypical okama, so he "IS" supposed to be gay and extremely effeminate - if he refers to himself as "atashi" that's a 100% indicator of what Oda was going for.

Some fans will never be able to accept VIZ's editing standards, but as long as you can appreciate how the editors are able to work around it, like with "Oh Come My Way", you'll be able to enjoy it more, even if it's only a little.
I'm actually glad people are starting to complain more, though I agree people should realize the editors are at the behest of the idiot executives at that company (who I loathe and wish would get fired) and the insensitive, stupid executives at Shueisha who like the meddle in American corporate affairs. That testimony by the guy earlier just reaffirms what I observed two years ago.
Reading about the whole Bandai Visual fiasco in the anime world, the idea of the Japanese companies trying to "force" American consumers is just insulting. As much as Al Kahn's "wholly American" viewpoint on anime localisation is, the Japanese one is more insulting.
To borrow the analogy of one of my friends, it's like "Bill Clinton narrating the history of Belgium to a young Belgian with a lot of Belgian pride".
