Bon Clay totally omits the original pun, as does Portgaz, which Aldrich (?) discovered ages ago was a homage to a pirate whose last name was "Portuguese" (not, the name was portuguese in origin, it actually was "portuguese"). Also, folks, Bon Bon is supposed to be a stereotypical okama, so he "IS" supposed to be gay and extremely effeminate - if he refers to himself as "atashi" that's a 100% indicator of what Oda was going for.
Some fans will never be able to accept VIZ's editing standards, but as long as you can appreciate how the editors are able to work around it, like with "Oh Come My Way", you'll be able to enjoy it more, even if it's only a little.
I'm actually glad people are starting to complain more, though I agree people should realize the editors are at the behest of the idiot executives at that company (who I loathe and wish would get fired) and the insensitive, stupid executives at Shueisha who like the meddle in American corporate affairs. That testimony by the guy earlier just reaffirms what I observed two years ago.
Reading about the whole Bandai Visual fiasco in the anime world, the idea of the Japanese companies trying to "force" American consumers is just insulting. As much as Al Kahn's "wholly American" viewpoint on anime localisation is, the Japanese one is more insulting.
To borrow the analogy of one of my friends, it's like "Bill Clinton narrating the history of Belgium to a young Belgian with a lot of Belgian pride".

Remeber Mr.2 doesn't have a female counterpart. He and his Okama way represents both of them.

Also, I don't mind "Portgaz", although I would prefer "Portgas", but it seems that Viz is getting kinda weird with their S's and Z's. In the latest FMA they called Kimblee, "Solf J. Kimblee". Most of the time the fansubs and even Funimation used a Z. I guess S and Z are interchangable, but it's almost like Viz is trying to spite the fans.

I've always pronounced "Bon Kurei" "Bon Clay". And to be perfectly honest I clean forgot he was named after a Japanese holiday. Frankly I'm borderline on the issue. I can see why Viz wouldn't highlight the origin and perhaps even change it, but I don't see the need to do so. Not like calling him "Bon Kurei" or calling it a Japanese holiday would cause the Earth to split in two.

while its doubtfull they know about the holiday they still get the reference that its about a date or holiday as it has the word "week" in it. (personally i did not make the connection with Mr.2's "female" name as he was male though)

Well because Rurouni Kenshin is a semi historical piece so being accurate in regards to it's "foreign-ness" is kinda important… One Piece well... is just a fantasy story. So explaining all kinds of foreign stuff in a fantasy series to American kids who probably don't care would be a little ridiculous.
Not saying that Rurouni Kenshin ISN'T a fantasy story as well... but you should get my point at least...

One Piece UA coverage is just about the special attacks, and says has all SH except Franky and Robin. It talks about Gear Second too.
Could you type what they say about Gear 2nd? I'd imagine it would go something like this:
"In this game, Luffy unveils his ultimate fighting technique; GEAR 2nd! It has all the speed, action, and attacks that satisfy your deepest shonen wet dreams! Unfortunately, you won't get to read about it in english until 2017! Because we completely screwed over the ONE PIECE manga's release!"
I wonder how many kids will read the article and say "What's this? Why haven't I read about this yet?"
I'd hate to imagine them trying to pass it off as something made exclusively for the game.

I believe Oda said that the higher-ups told him to do so. I guess the way it was being used was far too reminiscent of the Nazi swastika for their comfort. I guess I can understand it being editted in the Western releases, but the manji is a common symbol in Asia…

Yep, that is true. I was half expecting Viz to change it after I saw Oda's recent change. To be fair it's the only art change I think is valid, i.e. keeping it the same for consistencies sake (assuming they EVER get that far in the series).
Well well well, expect the next three issues to have three chapters each. Volume nineteen will have ten chapters so…in fact volume twenty also has ten chapters. Volume twenty-one has nine, and volume twenty-two another ten, with twenty-three having another eleven.. I can see Viz doing fve chapters a month when publishing volume nineteen and twenty in the magizine, then going back to three a month and then back to five a month for two months and for those eleven in volume 23...a part of me wants say a five month-er and a six-er but...I do not know...if we're lucky...groan I would rather Viz published five chapters a month for eight months to get through all twenty...
