If they take out the new dub it'd be a stab to them, but take out Naruto it'd be a mortal wound.

Wow, at first I thought you said "if they take out the new dub, you'd stab them"~
xS
-
Nope. And I doubt we'll get any promos either.
Well this is certainly a brilliant campaign to get potential watchers interested if I ever saw one.
-
If they take out the new dub it'd be a stab to them, but take out Naruto it'd be a mortal wound.
In other words, it would be the Naruto Block. :getlost:
I'm just going to stay optimistic about the new dub though - what we've heard so far is awesome, and there won't be any oddball edits. It won't be immediate, but it's a start.
-
@Taz:

As people have said a few times in this thread, Cartoon Network and Toonami just see it as more One Piece and, seeing as there's no break inbetween the 4kids and Funi dub, they probably see no reason to show promos. Not to mention that they never show promos these days that aren't for new seasons unless the show is Pokemon or Naruto.

It's true. As mentioned before CN plays favorites and ignores all other shows. I have not seen a comercial for any other shows on toonami except Naruto of course:getlost:. I thought they might put a promo on Jetstream, but ive been checking every week or so and nothing.
-
Well guys. It could be worse.
They could pull a Sailor Hamtaro on us.
Anyone who's been watching Toonami long enough should know what I mean. ;)
-
@Seal:
But, I also agree with the post above me (I'm sorry I can't remember names very well XD).
its all right (the names Joey just in case you want to know)
They probablly aren't using Alabaster in the movie, so I see no point in continueing an arguement about names, as much as they are important.
i forgot that they were making the movie too
btw, does anyone know, the time when funi got dbz which movie they did 1st
-
Funi's worked on all the movies in order from the first to the last. It wasn't until Movie 4 when they started using their own cast.
-
Technically, it wasn't exactly in order.
Back when Pioneer helped release the first three movies, it went in the order of Dead Zone, Tree of Might and World's Strongest. That's basically movies 1, 3 and 2. Then there's also the fact that Tree of Might was dubbed previously before, but heavily edited and split into episode parts.
But their first dubbed movie with their new cast was indeed movie 4, Lord Slug.
-
Lord Slug was so sweet. Along with the movie "Cooler's Revenge"~ (the sequal to "The Return of Cooler". Son of King Ice, and Lord Freeza. None of which have ice powers.
…their just cold hearted.
Now THAT'S a pun, 4Kids!! You could learn something... Only good puns are fun.

I'm pretty damn sure it was never confirmed, and I know Wiki is never to be trusted with new VA information, but … Christopher Bevins as Shanks?
Wiki seems to think this was confirmed by Kirbopher's post ...
http://apforums.net/showpost.php?p=585319&postcount=3304
Or was there a confirmation that I missed about Bevins playing as Shanks elsewhere?
(I don't believe this one bit, but there's so much information out there now that I'm getting confused with some things. Just refresh my horrible memory here.)
-
Sorry to nitpick, but the first DB-related movie that FUNi dubbed with the current cast was the DB Movie 02, 'Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle.'
-

I've been watching Toonami since the beginning, and I don't know what you mean.
-
I think they randomly stopped airing them both?
-
I know that was the case with "Hamtaro", but I haven't heard the same for "Sailor Moon". The show just ended and that was that.
-

He asked which was the first dubbed Dragon Ball Z movie. Not Dragon Ball. :P

Basically what happened was that Sailor Moon was doing really well on its Toonami slot. When Hamtaro was picked up and ready for US airing, they pulled Sailor Moon and threw Hamtaro in its time slot. It was REALLY odd considering Sailor Moon was doing well and Hamtaro really had no place in Toonami. Not to mention, they said Sailor Moon would return…only to never return and soon eventually the anime was pulled from everyone that owned a license for it by Toei, who now utterly refuses to let anyone license it.

It's only availabe with the 0cean cast though. I have the latest DVD release in the box set. The only movie with all of the correct voices from FUNimations current cast is - A Path to Power

Uh, no? You're thinking of the first movie, Curse of the Blood Rubies.
FUNimation dubbed Sleeping Princess in the Devil's Castle, Mystical Adventure, and Path to Power with their own cast. The Ocean cast only dubbed the first movie. There's currently no redub for it with the FUNimation cast. The second and third movies also sound off since that's when the cast was just starting out (Goku's voice was also provided by a different actress). The second movie was the very first thing the FUNimation cast had dubbed, even before getting started on Dragon Ball Z's continuation.
There are two boxsets involving Dragon Ball. One with the first thirteen episodes and the first movie. All of that is done by Ocean. There's the second boxset which has the rest of the movies. Those were dubbed by FUNimation.

Bevins is doing Lafitte's voice. No word on Shanks yet. We won't see him for a little bit yet anyway… Or did he pop up after Luffy decked Bellamy? I don't remember...
Besides, it's Wiki... Don't trust that stuff unless another source confirms it as well.

Yeah, episode 151.
-
Yeah, a few weeks ago Wiki had Caitlin Glass listed as being Tashigi, while John Burgmeier would be doing Smoker, while Vic Mignogna would be Enel.
Obviously someone was pulling crap out of nowhere. Neither were confirmed and soon removed from the list of voice actors.
-
XP It says Troy Baker for Ener/Eneru/Enel now.
-
Alabaster sounds stupid. It's not like ending it with "-a" is going to hurt anyone. Canad_a_? Americ_a_? There's no excuse!
-
Odd how my new TV Guide still lists One Piece as being TV-Y7-FV…

So wait why does Toei refuse to let anyone license it?

@Yuugi's:

It just means for that episode though, right? Or does it use one rating for an entire show?
-
wow this topic is like.. so not about the Funi dub anymore O_O
-

I think it's a thing of the author, not Toei itself. Some editorial even said that due to problems with the author, no Sailor Moon Manga could be translated at all. I dunno if it's the same in every other country, but who cares, It's like there are still too many SM fans out there that can't get the stuff from the net.

Ah well that makes a little more sense I suppose.
-
It's definitely a thing with the author, TokyoPop can't even re-publish the manga.
But yeah, back to "One Piece". Awhile ago I posted the idea of making original games for the U.S.A. It worked for "DBZ" and those were essentially Japanese games, I don't see why it can't work for "One Piece". Make an RPG series for the DS based directly on the original anime story (perhaps with cover mini-arcs, chibi stories and fillers as sidequests. Hell, make fillers part of the main quest too. Movies and T.V. specials would make good sidequests), starting from the beginning of "One Piece". It would sell well in every market where there's an audience for "One Piece".

Eh…not exactly such a great idea. Let's take a look at the games designed for the US:
-Dragon Ball Z Taiketsu
-Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game
-Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku
-Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II
-Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury
-Dragon Ball Z Sagas
-Dragon Ball GT: TransformationsThese are the games that were made exclusively for the American audience. Only two of those titles were actually playable, whereas the rest were awful (and one being playable to only those who played the TCG). Just about all other games were made in Japan with either the Japanese audience in mind or everyone (the Budokai and Tenkaichi titles were developed in Japan, regardless of what Atari wants you to think). Hell, Legacy of Goku II was the only one of those titles that made it to Japan.
With that said, it's a safe bet that if they couldn't do it for Dragon Ball Z, I wouldn't want to see One Piece have more swing and miss games coming out. Pirate's Carnival left a bad taste in people's mouths as is.

The big problem here is, and it's a problem for ANY expansion of ONE PIECE here in the states, is that it is nowhere near the plateau DBZ (and currently being tailed by Naruto) is and was and always will be. Not only that, DBZ video games are about fighting, just as the show is. Those keep getting churned out because fighting games are a dime a dozen, and people are suckers for adrenalyne. Compare those sales with the .hack series, which is in a similar situation with ONE PIECE. RPG series with a cult anime hit, constantly coming out with new games in the series. I may not know the numbers, but I'm very sure that people got tired of buying RPG after RPG in the same series. As for any kind of special treatment for OP, we have no choice but to wait and pray that the new FUNi dub will pull off another miracle and dethrown Naruto as the hot new anime on the block.
But back to the FUNI dub:
SERIOUSLY, ANYONE GOING TO THE DUB PREMIERE THIS WEEKEND, OR KNOWS SOMEONE WHO IS, RAISE YOU HAND. I at least would like to know how it sounds…

Yeah the legacy of Goku series wasn't exactly good…

I'm putting word out to my YouTube viewers to be alert about it. ;) Also informed the good folks of the One Piece LiveJournal community.

I found II and Buu's Fury to be enjoyable. The first was utterly filled with glitches and terrible hit detection.

I meant story wise. The way they did the story just felt like it was badly rushed. I wouldn't want to see that happen to One Piece if they tried something like that.
-

Na no Original US games, it better when the Japanese do it, simply because they care more for there anime, sure they want to make money but they also want to put effort into it to make it good. If it was made in the US they would just put it together and have it be crap. But One Piece first has to climb that big step where it is even close to DBZ or even Naruto popularity.
Also, if the game is made by the Japanese better chances we have of getting a Japanese VA option.

Japanese and American developers are no different as far as how likely you are to get a quality products. It varies on an individual basis regardless of what part of the world it's coming from. I mean a new "Naruto" game is in development at UbiSoft for the X360, and it's shaping up to just as good, if not better, than the past Jap-developed games in the series.
And what I mean by original games for the American market I mean new games in the series with an American audience in mind, it can still be developed by a Japanese studio and get released there too. That's why I thought something similar to the "Legacy of Goku" (adventure games based directly off the original "One Piece" storyline) would be a good idea, any fan of the series regardless of who they are could get into it. And when I say similar, I don't mean of similar quality people.
-
I don't recall the FUNi dub on Toonami being confirmed for a TV-PG rating. I heard it speculated and widely believed, but I don't recall it ever being "confirmed". I don't see how it's far-fetched if it stays TV-Y7.
-
They said that in the first interview that we got that they were going for PG. Please Buuhan, don't start another pointless frenzy>.> We already have enough of those as it is with all those Perona fanatics>.>
-
sorry if the title is too much
anyway:
please, please, PLEASE, (down on hands and knees) PLEASE!!!!! use the original voice/sound of the den den mushis from the Japanese version!!! and have them called den den mushis!
-
Thwy can't use the origional sound, it'll be copywite infrigment and they will have to pay to use it.
-
I don't know know who this Chris Bevins is (who is shishiwakamaru anyway, wiki doesn't have a page for him, and I don't remember which season he is in, I bet I bet it's either the 3rd or 4th)
-

really? that's lame! but they use other sound effects in dubs, well they should make it sound exactly the same.
-

….uuuuuh, starting a frenzy? Yeah..keep your fingers off the keyboard for a bit. I was startin' nothing. And further more "going for" doesn't mean they'll get it.
-

He does directing for the most part, though he's popped up to do voices here and there. He was Beck in BECK for example.
-

Do you have ANY evidence to back this up? Seriously, don't post things like that unless you have something to back it up.
-
that is why they don't use the anime sounds,
-
All I can say is that I hope they don't screw up the South Bird sound. o_o
-
Uh, last I checked, the Den Den Mushi's rings sounded more like they were voiced instead of having sounds from stock noises.
And why would they leave it as Den Den Mushi? Dendenmushi pretty much means "snail." As long as "Snail-o-phone" isn't used, something like the Transponder Snail Phone would work fine.
