Zoro looks kind of like Raijuta (Rurouni Kenshin, volume 6), but everybody looks awesome in that pic! That one's now one of my favourites, along with Sawai's, Amano's, Takei's, and Murata's.

That's interesting – I thought the opposite: I was glad that someone finally drew Zoro looking slightly battle-weary and "old".
It's all in the eyes -- the extra lines that Watsuki added beneath them (the way that people appear when either (1) they haven't had a lot of sleep, (2) they've been through a lot of stress, or (3) they're approaching their 40s ...)
But I'll agree with you about his hair -- it does look a bit "bishie" --a bit like Tasuki from Fushigi Yugi ...

That Watsuki pic of the crew was kick-ass. Franky was…whoa, Zoro looked way better than before, and Robin's hair looked shinier. And for some reason, Luffy's scar looked cooler.
And Kubo's Luffy was the blandest. Kishi had a better one, even.

Watsuki's a master when it comes to shiny hair. And he made Luffy look more mature, more like Ace. Zoro has the Satio glare down pat which is awesome. I liked Takei's Luffy as well. Too bad Araki didn't do a OP tribute pic.

I like that in him. He's not limited to giant eyes and bulging muscles. Yeah, he has that too, but he doesn't dwell on it. He has one of the most unique styles I've seen in a long time.

Was looking over 10th Treasure last night and somehow I have a better appreciation of a few things now, particularly in the fan arts:
-I somehow better appreciate the fanpics by Kaitani & Tokuhiro now I know Oda assisted under them prior to Watsuki…though Tokuhiro's was a tad simplistic, it does explain how Oda draws his musculature. Somehow I think that combined with Watsuki's stylization best defined how Oda's art evolved alongside his own style to what we currently see in OP.
-I somehow also now appreciate Nishi's (Muhyo & Roji) pic now for what I didn't see when I first saw it...cameos by Perona and Kumasy. Didn't know she already had a fan even at that point.
-Many of the more serious artist of the mangaka really stood out (Morita, Inoue, even Kishimoto when he tries) compared to stuff like...yeah, Kubo. -
