[To Oda's assistants]
What's popular in the studio at the moment?
Yoko-san, Mo-san, O-san, T-san: MONSTER HUNTER PORTABLE 2ND
Yoko-san: I don't play it myself but everyone is infatuated with MHP2. I'm personally infatuated with Leah Dizon.
HAH!
heh, she made my screensaver earlier in the year, she's a peach.
-
don't have anything to contribute, but i just have to say:
posting in epic thread
i've gotten lots and lots of goodies from this thread :D thanks to all the uploaders
-
TB will probably end by January. Oda is a great manga artist and I think OP will go down in history as one of the best manga.
-
TB will probably end by January.
A lot sooner than that it seems at this (perfectly fine) pace.
-
Wow, January….yeaaaah, don't think it's gonna be that long. I'd be nice if the end of TB would be around Halloween.
Speaking of which, wonder if One Piece and Thriller Bark is gonna be merchandised to hell and back come this Halloween over there. XD
(I'm sure Greg will keep us updated if it does.)
-
Yeah, October seems like the best time to end TB. If it'll end at the week of Halloween, then it would end in what, 11 chapters? Seems right.
-
We've got what?
The Ryuma ordeal which should take 2-3 chapters depending on the outcome from last week.
What looks to be a Robin and Chopper team battle. That will take AT MOST 3 full chapters which is stretching it unless Oda really wants to run with Robin given her downtime OR expand on Hogback for Chopper's sake.
Then we've got the Luffy/Moria deal which will no doubt end up including Odz somehow. That could easily go on for a while but I don't think it will take that long. Considering post-arc cool-down We should be ready to move ahead right around the end of November/December which brings us right to super break time AKA 'How I Learned to Hate Christmas & New Years'.
But how do we have a lot to look forward to in the new year one way or another.
-
Yikes, Greg. Looks like someone in this thread really, really, really wanted people to notice her Japanese knowledge.
-
Might anyone have a higher resolution scan of this?

-
Anywhere online that this is available at yet?
I'm dieing here…
-
This thread is pure awesome. I love you greg for the interview translations.

Which brings up my annoying question if anyone is still scanning these or know where to find the rest of the HQ versions.
How big is Halloween in Japan?
-
In short, it isn't big. It isn't even small. It barely exists beyond the realms of English classes near the end of October.
It's greeted with about the same level of enthusiasm as when I try to introduce some Japanese cultural things on this board.
-
Considering how Christmas there is a commercial holiday there confined to kids and lovers, I'm not surprised. (that and there is a backlash against Halloween in other countries due to its "commercialness" like in France) While there are several holidays there that honor the death (more like Mexico's "Dia de los Muertos"), there isn't the whole situation that would probably lead to Halloween in Japan. But hey, at least we have a use for the skeleton and the Thriller Bark creepies. (and even if Halloween isn't as known in Japan, it at least is known through the context of stuff like "The Nightmare Before Christmas", which is an obvious influence on this arc)
-
They know about it in name. To the extent I suppose most Americans know of foreign holidays in other countries.
And yes, a good deal of their knowledge of the concept comes from the Nightmare Before Christmas….even if they haven't seen it.
-
Yeah, I think I remember hearing about Halloween barely existing in Japan. I just thought I'd throw the Thriller Bark Halloween decorations idea out there as I want some invented.
-
I would of thought Halloween was big in Japan, considering how the Cowboy Bebop movie portrayed the holiday. See? You learn something new everday!
-
Well, wasn't Cowboy Bebop already largely centered around Western culture?
-

Ah! True. Good point Buuhan, it makes sense then as far as Bebop goes.
-

Yeah, I do know I have to explain a bit regarding Golden Week and Bon (and a bit on New Years) whenever Jump takes off then. We in the US probably feel strange getting nothing from Japan then…while they probably freak out whenever something doesn't publish here around the double issues of Memorial Day or Thanksgiving, for example.
And I didn't know "The Nightmare before Christmas" would be that influencial on their view of Halloween outside what Oda is showing. Considering the movie is mostly a spooky take on Christmas (outside the opening number), it sort of feels weird to see them embracing a movie about a holiday none of them know too much about outside the general weirdness of Burton.

Well don't the Japanese have Oban or something close enough to holloween already?
Tokoro, The japanese like that movie obviously because of the unique and goth themed art style. That's why most americans like it too.
-

The funny thing is they don't care about Halloween or even the content of the film. They just think the characters are "kawaii". One of my 2nd year students has a NBC pencil box coffin set and she's never seen the film.
Ah, thanks Ao Kiji, yes you're right.
Well don't the Japanese have Oban or something close enough to holloween already?
They're just finishing up Obon now but you can't really compare it beyond it having something to do with spirits. There isn't a lot of dressing up or even a lot of talk about ghouls, goblins etc. About the closest thing they do to directly dealing with spirits is Tourounagashi and Hakamairi.
-
Well hopefully I'm getting my copy of this book soon. Sis is heading out to Seattle for vacation and I instructed her to get me this (and the next Bo-bobo volume) at Kinokuniya. (probably could have it easier just going to NYC but not really in the mood to go there right now)
-
WILL SOMEBODY MAKE THE SCANLATION OF THIS ENTIRE BOOK OR NOT? (also, it has nothing to do with this thread but is there already any online translation of One piece RED, BLUE or YELLOW? I already have them in scanlation but there are in raw)
-

….seesh. I hope no one makes a scanlation with how you're being.
-

Scanlation the whole book? Even I know that must be a pain in the ass.
Also I believe no one has translated any of the entire Databooks. However I remember Greg giving info on the latest databook, it's no entire translation or scanlation but you get the important info.
-
I haven't read this whole massive thread, but what is the big deal that people can't just scan the pages and upload them? If I had the book I would certainly make it available.
-
I have the book. But not gonna scan the whole thing cause I dont feel like it. Well that's just me :p
-
Well,
-
People who own it aren't your errand-boys. They have no obligation to scan anything if they don't want to.
-
It's a pain in the ass
-
Getting really good quality scans would probably mean doing damage to the book
-
Personally, I'd feel that if I had spent my money on it, so should you
-
People most likely have much better things to do with their time
-
Most of the people clamoring for scans most likely can't understand the bulk of the content anyway
and so on
-
-
Camoes.
Scanlation does not mean a 'scan'. A scan is a scan. What you have of Red etc. are scans. Scanlationsmeans that is it translated.
I have politely trying to tell you this for about two weeks now but scanlations of the data books do not exist. Period.
There has been talk for a long time that the group null has been working on such a project. It could come out tomorrow or a year from now but there isn't anything now.
There is one AP member who actually scanned all of Red and all of Blue. I have not seen them recently.
One thing I know for certain is that if you keep asking for something that isn't there yet, I know it's going to piss a lot of people off.
-
Scanlating these books…Jesus. First, like stated you'll have to get good scans, then you'd have to get a good translation, THEN you have to clean the scans if they are dirty in any areas, and type the translation on it.
Scanlating Space Time and 3rd Year Class Sea Time took quite a bit of work and time, and those are 3 pages each. I don't wanna even imagine doing a fully chapter or A FRICKEN BOOK LIKE THIS.
-
lol
I've got the book
to many pages !!!
a hunk!! -
I don't think this has been posted here, so I've come out of lurkdom to share a scan of the Cross Epoch colorspread. Fitting the scans together took a while, so I hope you enjoy!

-
^nice. effing nice
-
Well I finally got mine…well in a week's time. Sis just contacted me and she was able to get me a copy of OP Treasures. Hopefully I'll use it to see if there's anything more that hasn't been said but I doubt it since a lot already has.
-
ok…how are most of you APers getting this book?
Cool Colorspread

Thank you so much for uploading!
-
I have yet to read Cross Epoch (Yeah, wtf is wrong with me? I love both series.) but that is kinda the first time I've seen a manga page colored like that.
Which brings me to this. I know Oda has colored some beginning pages in chapters/volumes before, but they were black and white. Does anyone have them in colored? Or were they actually published in Jump in black and white and only Oda has those colored?

In American Jump they come colored so it would only make sense that the originals were too.
-
Yeah, colored pages are printed in black and white in tankoban releases.

Just wait for One Piece to be released in Kanzenban volumes. Dragon Ball had the same thing (except they were entire chapters in colour), and when the kanzenban releases came out, the chapters were all coloured in.
Also, I believe that some of the colour pages you're referring to are available in the Colour Walk artbooks.
